We stopped by while we were in town and it's a decent place to go for what it is. It's good for a short time and it doesn't cost a ton. There is a small entrance fee then you get a card with however much you decide to spend there. Most games were between 2 to 10 nickels I believe, so it's nothing like going to a D&B or Funspot where you can spend $100 quickly. This is a good place for younger kids in my opinion and it has a mix of older games and a few newer ones, even has a row of pinball machines. My biggest complaint was that several of the games were broken and many of the smaller kids were running around with no supervision so they were using games without actually playing them and not allowing other kids to play. I know that is not a reflection on the business itself, but it definitely changes the atmosphere. We got bored fairly quickly so if you have older kids I would start with a small amount and see how you like it before putting a lot on a card. Nickelmania is the best arcade. They have everything from the classics to shoot 'em ups to an air hockey table, VR, pinball and all the greats. My favorite classics are Pac Man, Galaga, and Area 51. My favorite modern games are Willy Wonka and the Avengers coin machine. It costs $2.50 for admission, and whatever money you choose to load on the game card. The game card is cool because it keeps track of all your tickets and money. Most games cost 2-8 nickels and $10 will take you far. WAY better than your average arcade charging $1-$2 a game because they have all the same games. Rows and rows of games! One row dedicated just to pinball. The games are very clean and the prizes are great. Nice for families, date nights and solo adventures. read more

I didn't know what Nickelmania was for the first several years of being in Utah. One night, my friends and I planned a fun night out that involved dinner and Nickelmania. I was excited to see what Nickelmania was all about. Nickelmania is in a great location; right off State Street, near Fashion Place Mall. Their parking can be a but of a pain as it is a bit of a smaller lot, but we have never had too much trouble with parking. There is an admission fee and then you load money onto a Nickelmania card. From there, you are good to go around and play whatever games you would like to. I like the basketball, skee ball, fish game, riding games and piano game. My friends usually end up getting some frooties from the candy machine as well. They also have a really cool selection of pinball machines, with all different themes with them. It reminds me of when pinball machines used to be in restaurants--I remember growing up and playing with a pinball machine in KFC. After you get done with the games, you can redeem your tickets earned for prizes. I don't really like the toys or anything so I usually just redeem my points for candy. They have some airheads that are pretty good. The staff is kind of hit or miss if I am going to be honest. They are almost all teenagers working and don't really seem like they want to be there. The first time I went there, I got one prize and the guy threw away my card that still had money and tickets on it. It probably took 5 minutes to convince him to give it back. This isn't a place that you go to for some kind of "exceptional service" but it's nice when employees are somewhat nice and I just don't feel like that is the case here. Everything else is usually pretty good though so we will probably be back for some more fun sometime. read more

Me and my 11 year old son came in today. My son was playing a game and I was standing right next to him. He slipped and hit his head on the screen. The employees came and kicked him off the game because he was "being aggressive with the games." I started defending my son and they said they had cameras of him "violently shaking the games". I asked to see the footage. They showed it to me and it was literally my son slipping, falling, getting back up, and getting back to his game. They still defended their stance and wouldn't let him play any more games. Then they told us we needed to leave without redeeming our tickets. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! One of the employees YELLED at my brother (who has autism btw) for being "too rough on the machines." Mind you, he was just playing the games, no damage was done to anything he touched. My little brother started bawling after getting yelled at, and the guy proceeded to kick us out. I'm guessing he's the same guy mentioned in the other bad reviews. He wouldn't let us get a refund, and continued to harass us until we were out the door. When I asked his name, he took his name badge off and said "we don't do names." He then ran to the back and out the door when I went to get a picture. Tells you everything you need to know. This dude is a freak, and I saw him have similar interactions with many of the other parents and kids there. Will not ever be bringing my family back again. The older games really are a nickel, as you move closer to the front/newer machines cost 2-4 nickels....still pretty affordable. Nickelmania has a good selection of arcade games for a reasonable price. We payed I think $2.50 per person to get in (they give you a card you swipe at each machine) and then you load as many nickels as you want. Each game lists the number of nickels it costs next to where you would usually drop in coins. My fiancée was stoked to bring me here because he loves Dance Dance Revolution so we played together and had a lot of fun. I enjoyed that they had basketball and skee ball since those were two of my favorites growing up so we played those as well. They also had my favorite high school arcade game: Area 51. Lol! It was so funny seeing how bad the graphics are compared to the games we play nowadays but it was so nostalgic and we were a good team because we both advanced farther in the game together than either of us had before. Came here for the first time for my sons birthday and loved playing so many games! Lost my card and this lady next to me took it, as my husband confronted her she said she did t take it but when she didn't see him he heard her say "look what I found" so my husband called her lying ass out. Luckily the people there are so sweet and suspended the card so that the lady who stole it couldn't use it/cash it in so that was very cool! Like really lady how you gonna steal someone else's card ? Yes it is a very old facility but it is a fun place for the locals. There was a line out the door from the moment we entered and the moment we left. The only catch to the "Nickel" arcade is that you do have to pay $2.50 to even enter whether you are watching or playing. I understand the economics on this but it does catch you off guard if you haven't been there before. The concept of nickel games is a great idea; most games cost .20-.60 to play. I dislike the card concept though! The idea of tokens/nickels and tickets give you more of the thrill when you win a game and the machines spit out tons of tickets vs you won 15 tickets and they will he added to your card.. My kids were a little sad about that but nonetheless they enjoyed the arcade. If you are looking for some fun/cheap entertainment this is a good option! read more

I want one of these in AZ! What a great way to spend a fun couple of hours with your kids. It has a nice mix of vintage games like Tron, Frogger, etc., pinball machines, and new games. It costs $2.25 each to get in, whether you're playing or not. Next, you can purchase bags of nickels from them. We bought 100 nickels for $5, but ended up buying two more bags because we were having fun. Some games took one nickel, many took 2 or 3, and a few took five nickels. So you get a LOT of play time for your money. I would think to myself "Ooh! This machine takes 5 nickels!" Then quickly remember that it's only a quarter! I recently decided to get into pinball. As any new pinball player will tell you, it can be a rough start. Other places usually charge about a buck a game, which gets expensive fast when you're losing balls in a minute or two. Enter Nickelmania, my pinball training zone. I can come here, pay about $2 to get in, and then play pinball from between 3-5 nickels, depending on the machine. 15-25 cents for what would easily cost you $1 elsewhere is a great deal. They've got a great selection. Spider-man, Simpsons, Adams Family, Indiana Jones, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Pirates of the Caribbean, and probably another 10 or so. I was worried that they might not be in the best condition, but they all played fine. Maybe a light out here or there, but nothing that broke the games. Spider-man is what got me into pinball, and it's nice to be able to practice here as I work on improving my score. I also really liked the Indiana Jones machine (shoot the Raiders of the Lost Ark section a bunch for an 8-ball multi-ball). Pirates was pretty fun as well. I'll probably focus on those 3 next time I go back. They've also got tons of other arcade games, from old to new. Pac-man, Mario, Joust, Tapper, Tron, Star Wars, X-Men, pretty much anything you could want. I skip the ticket stuff because you're never going to win something worth more than what you paid. On a weekend night it will likely be packed, but even when it's packed there are enough machines to choose from that it doesn't matter. I've never had to wait for something I want to play. This arcade is great! I bring my nieces and nephews here a few times a month, give them each $15 and just let them run loose. They have a wide range of games for both kids and adults, and the pinball wall has a little bit of everything for everyone. Most of their prizes on the wall are not unreasonably priced, and the kids always get something on the way out. While the kids are playing their games, getting their kicks, I typically hang out in the Jurassic Park adventure game (really cheap for what you are getting) or the Wizard of Oz sweeper machine (gets you plenty of tickets on a budget). Honestly, genuinely surprised at how good this arcade is, and the prizes they get are solid. Will definitely return in the future. read more

I haven't visited this place since I was like 15, which feels like a hundred years ago. The nostalgia hit hard and I was afraid that the arcade wouldn't live up to my old happy memories. Pleasantly surprised that every game was in working condition and that the place was clean and organized. This is still a fun place for children, teens, and adults to come and hang out. Dude, video games that you can play for NICKELS? I was in heaven when I found this place! It costs $2.25 to get in but once you are inside, all games take nickles to play. There are some old favorites in here like Tron, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Burger Time, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Klax, Tetris, Super Pac-Man Frogger and more old school video games (there are also some new-ish ones like Guitar Hero, Terminator, Wild Taxi and more). I really love the pinball section. Be warned that they have the games set to the hardest settings so you'll be frustrated, especially with the pinball games (you only get 3 balls and the angle of adjustment is SUPER HIGH). But hey, what do you want for 5 cents? The games are in decent condition (yes, some are out of order but most work just fine) and there are genres for every taste. There are also lots of ticket games where you can win tickets to redeem for crappy prizes. This place gets crowded on the weekends but after 9 pm it's mostly teenagers and adults getting their game on! It's a fun place with a cool atmosphere. There's even a picnic table indoor party area in the back where kids can have birthday parties. Overall, this is a fun, cheap activity for anybody of any age. Note that, as with most business in Utah, it's closed on Sunday. read more

Came through on a Friday afternoon with my super energetic family and we tore Nickelmania up! The building is outdated but pretty huge inside; filled with kid friendly and arcade games. It's like a Chuck E. Cheese but way more entertaining for all ages. You pay admission fees and for nickel bags ($5 or $1 bags) when you enter. Ours only totaled $30 for (3) $5 bags and admission which lasted almost 3hrs at this place! The games were easy for my young kids to play and collect tickets. Call me old school but I like the idea that Nickelmania still uses coins and actual tickets for prizes. I didn't get a chance to play the arcade games but it's nice that every single game takes nickels too. No lie, my kids had a blast! Days and a whole different state later, my SO and I are still going on about Nickelmania and how we wish we had something similar in Sacramento because it was that entertaining. Btw, take your tickets to the counter and exchange it for prizes! Similar businesses like Nickelmania can't compare in the selection of prizes there are here. Wide range from life sized slinkies to candies! Nickelmania will definitely be a must do when my family and I are back in town! I have been to this location in the past and had a pretty poor experience, but I decided to take my siblings in to have a little fun that wasn't too expensive and I was blown away! The entire arcade has been revamped and has amazing machines now! Everything was working and the prizes are great quality! The manager is an absolutely phenomenal person. She was the only one working for the last hour, but she was still so kind and made us feel comfortable to take our time picking out prizes. When I want to play some cheap nickle games this is the place I think to visit. I live about an hour away but this is the best nickle arcade in the area. The games seem to always be working, they have a good selection, and it is a pretty clean place. I love pinball machines and they have a whole wall of them. They are more expensive than the regular games, 3 or 4 nickles per use but all the ones I played worked perfectly. They also have quite a few games where you can win tickets and turn them in for prizes which my kids did the whole time. We went on a holiday and the place was packed. The parking here is limited and that really is my only complaint. read more

Nickelmania is my JAM. I've been there 3 times and I live in North Carolina. That just shows how awesome it is. They have an awesome combination of new and retro games, including Dig Dug, Pacman, Mortal Kombat, and a bunch more. They've got a ton of multiplayer games where you can play against and with your friends, and a lot of other mindless games if you're just trying to win tickets for the MANY prizes at the front of the arcade. It's a few dollars for admission and then you buy a big bag (or bags) of quarters so you can play all the games you want. If you want to spend a few hours playing some great games with or against friends, Nickelmania is the place to go. read more

Nickelmania has become a lame ripoff with their new company changes. They've gotten rid of tickets, and nickels, and completely destroyed the old-fashioned charm of a nickel arcade. It's impossible to get a ton of tickets now without spending a ton of money. Also, the point of a nickel arcade is to flex your tickets on your idiot friends. Oh Nickelmania... you never fail for cheap, fun entertainment. My friend and I come here all the time. The later you go, the more fun it is! Some people would say that a crowded environment isn't necessarily their "cup of tea", but having it busy makes the experience that much more enjoyable in my opinion, not to mention higher bonuses to be won. ;) I haven't ever had any issues here. Because they typically are super busy on the weekends, and at night the game you are playing is bound to run out of tickets...but no need to worry! The staff is super friendly and willing to come right away to add more tickets to the game you're playing. I'm not really sure how great the prizes are that you can redeem your tickets for at the end of your trip here, because Nickelmania actually lets you keep your receipts for the tickets you've won and you can save them for a larger prize you've had your eye on for a while, which is what my friend and I are doing! The sign outside of the building looks like it's 20 years old. The outside of the building looks pretty run down and old as well. The parking lot is tiny. There have been times there was no parking available and I had to park at Fashion Place Mall and walk over to the arcade. Once you walk in, you are stopped by a big sign saying you have to pay $2.25 for admission and you can buy your nickels right then as well. You're given entry into the playing area and you are free to roam to whatever game you please. The games look pretty old/worn down, but they work perfectly fine. Some games are newer than others. There is a pretty wide variety of games available. There are partner games, solo games, kid games, lottery games, racing games, old-fashioned arcade games, etc. Unlike Nickel City, Nickelmania functions in a more old-fashioned way. The games require nickels and they dispense tickets. I prefer this method rather than using a playing card like Nickel City. I feel like it's more rewarding to hold all the tickets in your hand rather than a single card that automatically collects all of your tickets on there, however, this is a personal preference. Another difference between Nickel City and Nickelmania is that Nickelmania has less games under maintenance or unavailable than Nickel City. Nickelmania may look less modern, but the purpose of an arcade is to provide fun through arcade games and Nickelmania has done this job better than Nickel City. Overall, the building is old, the parking lot is small, and the bathrooms are mediocre; however, it fulfills the duty of an arcade and provides entertainment to its fullest extent. At the end of the day, I am pretty satisfied with my visit to Nickelmania. read more
