Pretty straightforward- a couple dozen claw machines. The games are winnable, but expensive.

Every fad and phase evolves, and you can get a front row seat to that right here in The Gateway at…read moreThe Break Room. The trend? Food trucks. The evolution? The brick-and-mortar support for them. We've seen a few iterations of this over the last year or two in SLC, and this is another fine example. Of all the complaints people lodge against food trucks (and I'm not beating up food trucks--I love them), the fact that you don't have anywhere to sit is probably the biggest among them. It's really cool to see the Gateway solve this problem using the asset they have: space. The concept is this: use an empty store, fill it with tables and arcade games, and invite food trucks in to park nearby. People come to eat, have a (climate controlled) place to eat, and everyone wins. The space is fun. It's not overdone, but does have a large bank of tables and chairs, as well as a handful of arcade games to keep you entertained and occupied. It's directly adjacent to the fountain where the trucks park, so you're only a few paces off from when your grab your meal. I ate here a while back, and it was buzzing with other lunch-goers from around the area. It's a nice option, and certainly brings in more traffic than if you leave everyone to fend for themselves without seat, in the rain and snow.

What a great idea: A well furnished dining area with TVs and tables and couches and air hockey and…read morefoosball and skee ball and a putting green and ... well, you get the point. And the games are free! I imagine it was made for Gateway employees--which in and of itself makes it a noble use of space. But there's one big upside for foodies like us: It's right by the Food Truck League "round-up" area (near the fountain). This means yummy food trucks all year long!

It was super quiet and we were only one of a few tables, but it was also a Tuesday night. Service was attentive and relatively quick. I'd recommend! Would look forward to coming back to try the games.

FOOD We had a bunch of youngsters with us so we go a few rounds of fries, fried mozzarella sticks, chips & guac (but they were out of guac), and a few sides (Mac n cheese, sautéed green beans, Alfredo fettuccini ) and the teriyaki steak. I did order a mocktail but after it didn't come out for 25 min, I asked fhe server to remove it from the bill. SERVICE/ CLEANLINESS Service was abnormally slow. It took a bit for the food to come out and it came out in rounds. The tables next to us got upset about the cold and late food and spoke to the manager. The women's bathroom had 2 sections for sinks and one section did have soap or working dispensers. Generally have been for years while we lived in Utah, I remember this place being outstanding but this visit was a little underwhelming. We'll still be back but I'm hopeful they'll get some of the basics down

I'd be interested to come back on a slower day, because it was difficult to be in charge of kids here during a very crowded, overstimulating, busy weekend. We came here for a birthday party on a Saturday afternoon and all of the kids were given a card to swipe on all the games. The points you won were automatically uploaded to the card. I was so nostalgic for when you used to get actual paper tickets at the arcade! This is not the case here, and probably most other places nowadays. The staff was friendly and the arcade itself was much cleaner than I was expecting. Some of the games weren't working and there wasn't any signage communicating that. The group of kids I was with LOVED the merry go round and the little rides catered to the smaller kiddos. Those games obviously don't accrue any points, but they did win some points and were able to pick up some prizes at the end. If you get overstimulated easily (like myself), this place probably isn't for you - lots of noises, lights, bright colors and carpeting. It is a fun place for families, and even with it being busy, we didn't ever have to wait long for the games we wanted to play. Would be interested to come back during the week when it's less busy!
