We love Nicholas Restaurant...we live in the Columbia River Gorge and make it a point to stop n Gresham and have lunch here whenever we come into Portland...the food is GREAT, the Value is terrific the servers are consistently professional, there when you need them but not cloying at all, you are never rushed even when it's busy. What a pleasant surprise-fresh and delicious food at a great price. Be warned that the portions are huge. I would suggest sharing a meal. The fresh baked pita bread with hummus was out of this world. Food was 4 Star - Service was 1 star. The dinner staff was lazy and busy socializing with each other. The restaurant was dirty...forks and pita bread on the floor....another dirty table next to me....waitress has two tables and could not remove dirty food dishes from next to us for the entire duration of the meal....not to mention there were three other people doing nothing. The hardest working guy was the latino man who was probably busting his butt behind the scenes. The lunch staff must be better supervised, I will keep that in mind for sure. read more

Well, I tried again on April 9 at 7:30pm with my bff who loves the food. I came without my daughter for a disappointing girls night out and didn't use my coupon. I will be coming in again one last time to use the coupon and hopefully give 1 positive review out of 3. To start he server (tall skinny male with dark hair) was apologizing to every table including us due to long wait time, food mix ups and the table to our left got an appetizer meant to have with bread, but the ovens were no longer making bread and he forgot to tell them, I'm sure there was more but I don't remember). We waited for ~10 mins for water and 2 tables that were sat after us had their orders taken before us (which being a 2 top vs. a 4 top seems weird in itself). My friend ordered a blended peach drink (I think it was 6 or 9 dollars...just seemed expensive) and it was really warm and served in a cold glass. We thought it was an iced blended drink from the menu description but could be wrong...either way, she didn't drink it. Then our food finally came we were there for 1.75 hours and only at the bread and hummus, the ailing for the chicken kabobs was delicious as well. But here comes the disappointment. The chicken was inedible (99% fat and the rice wasn't even as good as the ricearoni I make at home, it was soupy and squishy and gross) so we didn't eat our meals and I didn't even want to take it home for my dog because it was just fat. So...the server apologized and charged us for the hummus, 1 meal and the gross non iced blended drink. So...as previously stated, I will be trying one last time using my coupon, bringing my daughter and hoping for good, quick service and delicious food. I am going to lower my rating to 1 but hopefully will change it when I go in for the 3rd time, 3rd time's a charm right? Now to figure out how to post the pix of the food we didn't eat... read more

The best Lebanese food hands down. I am sooo happy they are in Gresham. They have three locations. I have been to them all. I have looked for years for great middle Eastern food. Nicholas's is the closest to the food I had in Saudi Arabia. Once seated you will be greeted with warm flat bread right out of the oven and herbed olive oil for dipping. We placed our order and enjoyed the warm bread. In less than 10 minutes we were eating our lamb shawarma, baba ganoush, hummus and salad. I have always had great service at al locations. read more

Our two family group of 9 enjoyed a selection of hummus, falafel, lamb sawarma sandwich, Stephens beef, chicken kabobs, huge pita bread apps, Turkish iced coffee, mint tea, and kiwi smoothies. I really wanted it to be good but we waited about 20 minutes before anyone even made eye contact with us. Then it took forever for us to have our order taken. We were served bread without the hummus we ordered (or our drinks or silverware) When we finally were served my chicken was undercooked and had to be sent back. The meal itself was good though. But the server was horrible and excused herself by saying she was hypoglycemic. She also said she had no idea what cooked chicken ( or undercooked in this case) should look like because she was vegetarian. We once again waited way too long for our bill. We did get a nice laugh at the servers attempt to upsell dessert. The final laugh was when she took my cc to pay for the meal and once again was gone far beyond my comfort level. I was about to walk away and just report it lost/stolen when she returned it to us. But the meal was nice I suppose. read more

I went to Nicholas on Sunday to celebrate getting a new job, and had a terrible experience. My server (Alma?) spoke less than a dozen words to me, other than taking my order - which was one of two times I saw her, she didn't even bring out the food! Never checked on us, nothing. My dolmas were almost inedible, and I wanted to express this to her, but instead the plate was removed with no regard to the fact it was filled with food. I let it go. My platter was phenomenal, and would absolutely have again, if it wasn't for the manger and horrible server. I spoke to the manager about my experience, and she made me feel heard and understood, and would like to compensate with a gift card. I didn't even want something, I would have liked to not pay for the dolmas but was happy with the gift card, and I would come back and spend money there again. Except for the fact that she DIDN'T follow through on that at all, never heard another word about a gift card and I left paying my full bill and a tip. What makes me even more upset is I wrote some comment card about my poor experience but was made whole by the manager. Would have been nice if she actually did that... I hope this can be made right, I'd like to enjoy the food again. read more

I've been to the Nicholas on Grand so I was super eager to try out our very own Nicholas out here in Gresham. It is fantastic! I've been here now a number of times. Please note, the best time to be here is before the lunch rush which starts around 11:45. I have seen it fill up so quickly, and it's not a large space at all. I think maybe 15 tables? They have a list to sign up on though. Take out orders take about 10 minutes. The only thing lacking is the wait staff, they are a little laid back, but will come over quick enough when beckoned. They bring that pita bread over fast enough when you sit down, so I'll keep that extra star. Their portions are HUGE here so be warned that getting appetizers and main meals is best to share with many people. I've been stuck on the falafel, baba ganoush and pizza here. My Hubby swears by their lamb schwarma. I promise to try something different next time I go back. They have these coupons that just arrived in my mailbox that have to be used before Dec 2nd so you better believe I'll be using these! read more

I love coming to this place! Service is great here the food is off the chains and the atmosphere very inviting. I've had my birthday dinner here recently, My girlfriends family has had a few events over the course of this year here as well and also at the broadway location. Some of my favorite dishes are the Lamb Platter, Chicken Schwarma, Lebanese cheese, and the Kifta Kabobs. I've definitely come to love this place and find myself craving their food especially their rice pudding! Natalie has been our regular server there and she is very friendly. Her follow up is very good and if she does make a mistake she's quick on resolving the issue fairly quickly. I highly recommend this place if you're looking at lebanese! I placed an order to go and was told it would take about 15 minutes. After 25 I asked the status of my order and he told me it would be right up. He then went to the kitchen to submit it. When I finally received my food the to go order had half as much rice as normal. The food does taste great but the service was worthless. read more

This place is the best Lebanese dining in Gresham. I was disturbed although to see a lady identified as being the owner by an employee spraying Raid flying insect killer in the air in the middle of my dining with other diners eating lunch. When questioned by my guest she claimed it was restaurant grade safe. It sure didn't look it. We didn't ask to see the can but It clearly looked identical to the same Raid can you buy in the grocery store. I haven't been back since and not sure if I want to considering how unsanitary and unsafe it is spraying insect killer in the air. read more

Oh this place was so good. What a refreshing place to eat lunch at amongst the normal grease in Gresham! Lunch was served up really fast. A large-flat bread was brought out first, with an olive oil and sesame seed dipping sauce. I ordered the vegetarian mezza, and it came with falafel, hummus, tabouli, spinach pie and a disc of bread with more sesame-herb topping on it. It was tasty, filling, and felt healthy! YUM! A little bit on the expensive side, but the food is soooo good! (Waitress: "Do you want feta on that?" (um....duh. Doesn't it come with feta??) = secret $1 charge.) Massively enormous pita bread for free, will replace if consumed. I went with the classic choice: falafel sandwich. My sister got the lentil soup, which was amazing. I don't eat meat, so I didn't try my dad's lamb kabobs, but he said they were great. We also had the Lebanese beer..eh. It was like Lebanese Coors Light. My colleagues and I were in Portland on a business trip. Before catching the red eye to go home, we toured the multnomah falls and then decided to eat here. This place was full when we arrived for dinner and had to wait 10 mins before we were seated. My colleagues ate the kebabs and yellow rice and loved it. I had the vegetarian meal and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They also serve Mango lassi. Good food, good service, clean restrooms, lovely decor. I have only ever been to Nicholas for lunch, which is what I had there today. Apparently, in addition to their regular menu, they now have a new lunch menu, which consists almost entirely of "bowls." Like kabobs? Have it in a bowl with rice, veggies and salad! Fond of gyros? Similar offering, slightly different items. They sounded pretty good and are reasonably priced, so I decided to give it a shot. I had the lamb kabob bowl, which was pretty good. The jasmine rice was excellent, but I wasn't crazy about the kale salad. That's more my fault than theirs - I'm just not a fan of kale. The lamb was only okay: the pieces were large and tough, difficult to eat from a bowl where they can't really be cut, and one piece was underdone enough that I couldn't eat it. I felt that the flavor was also not what it could have been. My companions were happy with their Mediterranean Chicken Bowl and Gyros, though, and the flatbread and hummus were very tasty. The baklava we finished with was excellent and a large enough portion that I took half of it home to eat later. The service was also excellent, and our waiter very attentive without hovering. Our needs were well anticipated, and on the whole it was a good dining experience. If my lamb had been a bit better, this would be a four-star review. read more

My only complaint is sometimes they are super busy during the lunch hour- so it's best to call ahead if you want to get to-go food- everyone else must crave their lunch bowls too! To be fair, I love the food. Most of the time. it's the same awesome Lebanese you'll find at their other locations. But much unlike their other locations, the service here is terrible. Not just once, but every single time I've gone on since they opened in Gresham. It's incredibly slow, whether or not there's a lot of people in there, and there's almost always something wrong with my order. I started ordering it to go, thinking that calling ahead would save me from the painfully long wait times. But even then, when they say "it'll be ready in about 20 minutes" and I show up 20-30 minutes later, I still end up waiting 10-20 minutes for my to go order. Another major problem I've had with to go orders: specifying and paying extra for the gluten free pita, only to get home and discover regular pita, so I can't eat it and I've wasted my money. The most recent to go order I made was actually completely wrong and I didn't discover it until I got home (I should've known better and visually checked it myself rather than just verbally triple checking with the wait staff.) I called in and was told that, apart from driving all the way back to return the food and receive a replacement, there was nothing they could/would do. Unacceptable. I just wish I didn't love the food so much. When it's right, it is oh so right! The problem is, at least at the Gresham location, it's not right very often. read more

The food here has really gone downhill over the last year. My fiance and I entered on a weekend night with several tables open but they try to sit us in these horribly uncomfortable, very low sitting and structurally shoddy benches that were makeshift booths. I'm 5'11, not that tall but talk about uncomfortable. I would hate to be any taller trying to sit in these. I asked to be moved to a table and we were. I ordered the meat mezza and there was barely any meat! A few tiny, tiny strings of chicken here and there but other than that it was basically a vegan meal. And the price for such a measly meal was nothing more than wallet rape. I've had larger, much more tasty meals at Riyadh's for a little more than half the price so in comparison this was a bad deal and lousy meal. In the past Nicholas had been better but ever since they opened in Gresham, their food quality has gradually slipped while their prices were sure to rise. The portion size is fine but when you start deleting key meal components like meat, then you have a real problem. The meal was little more than carbs. Neither of us were impressed and overall disappointed and I think it's safe to say Nicholas is not in our future dining plans. read more

Absolutely wonderful Greek food here - OMG! We use them for a local client of ours for a "Lunch & Learn" event we do a few times a year, and their food is simply amazing. We ordered Chicken Kabobs, Lamb Kabobs, hummus, Lebanese salad, falafel, saffron rice and an amazing (and huge!) side of tahziki sauce - all to go, complete with plates, napkins, forks, etc.... And as always, it was not only amazing food but an amazing value. Our client LOVES the food (as do we) and they always work it out so we can do our Lunch & Learn - even if they don't know the topic we're going to present - just because they love the food so well!
