Tried their ice cream at a farmer's market. These guys rival Smitten, another liquid nitrogen ice cream maker based in San Francisco. Except these guys used freshly scraped vanilla bean in their ice cream. Like you legitimately crunch into itty bitty vanilla seeds as you are eating it. And the texture is like butter. Amazing stuff. The quality of the icecream is very good; the icecream is creamy and rich. The experience of having icecream made in liquid nitrogen is also fun and little kids love it. However, the selection of icecream is limited (6 flavors) and only included "Nutella" as a variation of chocolate when I went. Outrageously priced and completely underwhelming. Didn't even finish my "blackberry" ice cream as it had no berry taste at all, tasted like milk. I got really excited to see another new ice cream place around DC, especially when I saw all the positive reviews. I was left really disappointed with this place, though. I got a scoop of the Nutella and a scoop of the Pistachio. Upon first bite of the nutella flavor, I thought, "Wow! It's really creamy and delicious!". But after the first few bites, it started tasting overly sweet, which is saying something coming from my severe sweet tooth. They make the ice cream right in front of you (oohh! ahhh!), and all the ingredients aren't already mixed. They add the flavor concentrate into the mixer in front of you, and this concentrate just doesn't taste like it mixes well into the ice cream, or maybe they just have their proportions off. It tasted like if you took a container of orange juice concentrate, added barely any water, and then tried to drink it. It would be way too sweet and concentrate-y. That's what their ice cream tasted like. The pistachio was so concentrate-y that I had to abandon it after just 2 bites, which was really sad because I LOVE pistachio-flavored anything. Not only is the liquid nitrogen part really cool, but the ice cream actually tastes good, too! It's a nice smooth consistency and tastes fresh. I really liked the speculoos, Nutella, and the bananas and cream. The only down side is that it's a little pricey. read more

I requested to sample the strawberry basil, and had to wait for it to be refrozen, which made the ice cream seem fresh or old/unwanted. After waiting through the freezing process for a sample, that flavor tasted too strongly of basil for me. I went with key lime, which was fresh and tangy. My boyfriend got bananas and cream, which tasted like your typical artificially sweetened banana flavor. I wish some of the flavors other reviewers mentions had been available when I was there. You pay about $5 for a very very tiny cup of the ice cream. Overall, seeing the liquid nitrogen was indeed an experience and was pretty cool, considering that is part of the price, although is more of a novelty for me and I'm not sure I would go back anytime soon considering you can find better tasting ice cream for cheaper. read more

FABULOUS!!!!! Ice Cream is to die for. Only serve a few flavors a day but worth it...not to mention the cool factor with the fog streaming out of the bowl as they hand make your serving of ice cream! By far the best ice cream I ever had. I went back enough times to get a free scoop. Thanks to liquid nitrogen, the texture is so smooth, and even the vegan banana whip is great. I recommend particularly going for caramel flavors-they don't taste like the monotone caramel, but is buttery, creamy and rich because they make it at the store. read more

This place is amazing. I found myself wandering down on this strip in Arlington after no luck of finding parking in the Georgetown area for the shop I was trying to go to. I was looking for the Thai ice cream rolls initially and on a whim I decided to walk into Nicecream factory and saw that they didn't offer the Thai ice cream rolls but freshly made ice cream so I decided to give it a try! I was really intrigued by the machinery inside. I was shown the menu which is written so decoratively in chalk and they had really cool flavor names. I ended up deciding on one of the August flavors of the month; Lemony Jenny; but believe me, it was hard to choose between that one and the Peachy Keen. I watched the entire process from start to finish as she used the machine with the nitrogen, mixed the heavy cream and the liquid lemon flavor to create my ice cream from scratch and once the spoon hit my mouth I was b l o w n a w a y. The ice cream tasted so fresh and creamy. This place really knows good ice cream for sure and is catering to a predominately untapped market in DC/Nova (ice cream from scratch). I got one scoop just to taste it and didn't feel like I could finish it in all honesty because it was so satisfying and you had to eat it very slow to save and savor it. The atmosphere inside is nice as well but I opted to eat mine in the car where I could make faces without anyone looking at me funny (yes, it was that good). I was in sheer heaven for at least 7 minutes. I didn't want the experience to be over. I am upset that they don't have this place closer to where I live. I actually threw mine away. Throwing ice cream away! I can't believe! But that's how bad it was--it was probably only the flavor I got--Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt. And I love that flavor. I am not one to send food back but I was handed my $6.00 small cup of ice cream and the first bite, almost gagged it was so salty. The guy next to me had ordered the same thing and said his was just as bad and hard to eat so I told the girl who said 'it's just a mix though' I guess meaning it will all taste the same. I should've just asked for a different flavor, or been offered one, but they didn't even seem like they wanted to hear it or cared if I was satisfied with my $6.00 small cup of ice cream. She made me a new one and I tasted a few bites, thought it was better, headed out, took a few more bites was overwhelmed by salt and tossed it. The group I was with had milk chocolate, banana cream and strawberry basil and all were fine so probably just my flavor. However, I wouldn't go back, wait in that line or pay $6.00 again. read more

Nice?! More like not so nice. LOL. But seriously, this would be one star but they gave me a coin voucher for my next visit so I can use it to wait in line again. I was super excited to try this new ice cream experience that looked innovative and delicious. I gave my order with my name and waited expectantly for my simple 2 scoop order. I proceeded to wait for the next 10-15 minutes while enjoying the site the of the two people in the line BEHIND me receive their ice cream, one of which was a brownie sundae which takes longer since they warm it up in the toaster oven. It seems that they're ordering process is extremely inefficient and has ironically no order to it. Ultimately I got so frustrated waiting I asked for my money back which was kindly granted to me with apologies and the voucher coin for the next visit which may or may not happen. To all our local/chain ice cream shops: you have MAD competition because their ice cream is the best I've ever had in my lifetime. I mean, how cool is it that you get to see your ice cream made right in front with liquid nitrogen! Bill Nye the science guy would be proud! The flavor that is at the top of my list is the strawberry thai basil. When you hear that 'thai basil' is in the ice cream, you'd automatically think 'hmm interesting...' Once I took a spoonful, it was pure bliss! It had an equal balance of strawberry puree and chopped up pieces of thai basil (the basil was not overpowering at all)...I honestly can't wait until it 's on their menu again. They change their menu everyday so their customers can try new flavors each time they visit the shop and you can find this information ahead of time on the calendar on their website. Another (and most importantly) awesome thing about their shop is that the staff is absolutely friendly! The owners are from the best school in the country, James Madison University! I'm an alumni myself so I'm a HUGE supporter, of course, to my fellow dukes! Delicious, decadent, FRESH, creamy, UNIQUE=AMAZING :) You'll not want to go back to eating the pint of ben and jerry's you get at the grocery store after trying this! read more

I've been to this place now three times - twice just this past weekend. I keep coming back for more! I'm a huge fan of their vanilla bean flavor - paired with anything it's delicious! This weekend I had it with a new cinnamon flavor which was awesome. My husband had a Nutella flavor that was paired with a Chocolate flavor - I thought the two together were too rich but a part they would have been great. I also sampled the Lemon and it was amazing. The only complaint I have is when I went in with my daughters yesterday and asked if there were nuts in their cookies or brownies - which they said no, I then proceeded to taste a bite and got a nice chunk of walnuts in the cookie. I'm glad I went ahead and took a bite myself. They should be more careful of allergies since their ice cream is gluten free - I would think they would pay more attention to the ingredients in the baked goods. My girls don't have severe allergies and it is mostly peanut related - but you can never be too safe. Otherwise, I love this place and it has become a weekend habit! read more
