I had oxtails on my mind so I decided to head to nice mon. When I arrived the other day I turned in the parking lot and noticed the windows boarded up! Wow. The restaurant is closed for good at this location. I wonder did they relocate or went out of business? Sad to see them gone. read more

It really is tough to find bad Caribbean food and I certainly didn't find it here. Hole in the wall in Stone Mountain. Just finished a couple of laps around the mountain and was starving. Stopped in for some to go food. The lady who greeted me was friendly but not much help. Asked for a chicken recommendation (brown stew, stewed, jerk, or curry) and she wouldn't even tell me which was most popular or which she preferred, so I just picked one at random and got the brown stew chicken. Loved it. Tons of flavor, slightly spicy, with delicious rice and peas and coleslaw. I got a small and note for you all-a small is plenty for a good meal. Would have preferred more chicken but I did get a small (there was still a lot of rice though). Regardless, I didn't leave a crumb. Doesn't look like much but worth a stop. read more

Nice, never truer words have been said. Searching for Caribbean food since the spot I traveled too wasn't open as scheduled. I called up nice Mon 7:30pm and asked "hey when do you close" answer " now,but what would you like and how far away are you" Ordered 2 large oxtail plates and 1 large curry goat. Drove up 10 minutes later and the nicest lady standing at the door waiting to lock up. She asked me to he'll bring in her plants into the restaurant, how could I say no. I did my good deed for the day came inside to grab my plates, asked if they had pates. She gave me some for free. They had sweet potato pudding and I order some. When we finally got to sit down and enjoy our meals. The oxtail was cooked perfectly not tough. Seasoned well great rich sauce nice color. The goat was not full of bones and definitely tender seasoned not as spicy as I love my goat but, That's what pepper sauces are for. The veggie was a mix of cabbage and greens. The rice and peas hmm, I'm not a rice person so when I say rice is good it has to be. I loved their rice and peas. Nice flavor shelly not hard moist coconut milk rich. read more

Was in the area and had mapped out restaurants nearby where I was visiting. Just from the name alone I knew it had to be good and after checking the reviews I said it seems to be worth the try. So glad I tried! They were out of the meat patties but that's OK because I plan to try this restaurant again in the near future. I couldn't decide between the oxtails and spicy goat and I think I ordered the small for both and if that's the case their small is HUGE. BOTH plates were amazing! Spicy goat had the perfect amount of heat. The plantains only two pieces were ripe. I wonder if they offer this as a side. Comes with rice and peas and a salad. The only other place I go for BOMB oxtails is Creole Orleans Catering in Greenbriar Mall food court. Also ordered a mango juice/smoothie drink which was really good. The lady (I believe she was the owner) said they order their juices from the market or somewhere nearby. It's served frozen which is perfect because I let it sit out and by the time I wanted to drink it it was like a slush. Loved it and so refreshing! read more

In town on Vacay, was recommended this place by a few people. They are located in Decatur...I was in midtown and they were closing in a hour. I called to place an order for pickup and mentioned I didn't want to drive in that direction if they were about to close. The nice lady said to still come and I swear that plate was full...a salad with vidalia onion dressing, flavorful well-seasoned oxtails and plantain. I want to get another order of the same tomorrow before we head back home. Thanks to the ppl that suggested this place. read more

Ep. 8 of AntlantaEats Being that I was born & raised in South FL, my taste for Caribbean food is a little superficial. I've been disappointed at a few spots prior to discovering this location. A friend recommended me this months & months before. I had just finished walking up/down Stone Mountain. Upon completion, I had just remembered that recommendation and was nearby. I ordered their Jerk Chicken (I got the large size) along with brown rice/beans and plantains. Man I can tell the marinate their chicken for weeks! (Ok I'm exaggerating but you can really tell). It has by far been the best Jerk Chicken I've had in Atlanta (I know I know, I still have more restaurants to check). Inside the restaurant you'll see a few pics of comedian Martin Lawrence with the owner I believe. He may have had his taste of experience as well. I got 2 beef patties and a large oxtail. I had to wait 45 mins for the patties because they were being cooked. Everything was good. I did expect more oxtails for the large oxtail price($24). They could have kept the salad and added 2 more oxtails. read more

I'm still a regular after all these years! The food NEVER disappoints. My absolute favorite dish is the curry goat (see picture up top). The meat is always so tender & flavorful! I love that this is spicy like it should be & not toned down for "Americans" My daughter can't get enough of their oxtail. It falls right off the bone & the gravy goes so well with the rice. As a treat, we usually get the potato pudding for dessert. This has become a staple lunch on Saturdays! read more

I was im shock. I was greeted immediately upon entry and the clerk was friendly and helpful. My food came out fast and boy, was it delicious! The rice and peas were flavorful, the cabbage was just right, and the oxtails and butter beans were seasoned to perfection and the gravy was amazing. I usually hate gravy but it was amazing. It's rare that you find good service and tasty jamaican food in conjunction. read more

The oxtails and butterbeans were transcendent, rich and complex and fatty in just the right way. The jerk chicken was smoky to the bone, with a heat that makes itself known without overpowering the subtler spices. And to accompany it all, the most perfect, fluffy, tender, sweetly fragrant rice and peas, with real field peas, every legume cooked just as meticulously as the rice. This place deserves the five stars for the food alone. I am willing to venture outside the perimeter for this food! If they get a sign to let people know to seat themselves and put some greens and veggie side dishes on the menu, I will be there every week. read more

I love their oxtails. I also love the family atmosphere and the consistency in their food.

Lunch with the Bestie on Monday's is usually Applebee's because it's close to her office but I'm so tired of Applebee's. I wanted something different and I wanted my favorite Cuisine. Jamaican food! The reviews on yet we're really good for nicemon most of the reviews leadoff or contains the words authentic Jamaican food which held a lot of problems for me so I tracked too nice mine along with the bestie for lunch. The address on Yelp is incorrect as it took us to "Nowhere". When the GPS said "you have arrived" and we were on the side of the road with no buildings, nothing but a privacy fence surrounding an apartment complex I was totally confused. So I called the establishment and was told to come to 663 Main Street, Stone Mountain and that she had tried several times to get the address corrected on Yelp but it just had not happened. Anywho, it was only 3 more minutes away so we drove over to the restaurant and went inside. Should we sit? Should we stand? I don't know what we should do. We're just standing there with the young lady behind the counter looking at us. I finally ask "do we seat ourselves?" and she says yes. So it's a very casual restaurant the food was very good. what I really like is that the patties,(beef, chicken &veggie at $1.95 each) are made from scratch. Not the frozen reheated patties. I really enjoyed that. I was not disappointed with my meal either. I had a large oxtail meal for under $14. My plate had rice and peas, a big portion of oxtails that was cooked perfectly along with some plantain. The oxtails had some heat to it, like the scotch bonnet burst (I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy foods). Oh yeah, a side salad was given as well. All in all the atmosphere is very casual. You can tell that the visitors that stopped in have been there time and time again. There was a table next to us full of gentleman that most likely met weekly at this restaurant. Seems to be a standing appointment. The staff is very nice and although I had to ask for things like water and napkins more than once, I still won't hold it against them because it's just the nature of the family style Jamaican restaurant. The focus is on providing great quality food. read more

As a second generation Jamaican, the "We nuh have dat" stereotype holds true when it comes to this restaurant. They literally have nothing featured on the menu. But the food they do have ?!?! Babaaaaayyy! Let me tell you! Auntie in the kitchen is cooking her butt off! Better than mi grandmaddas cooking fi real! The saltfish patties are absolutely mesmerizing. The cow foot and oxtails are better than I've had in Jamaica it's self. If you're looking for an AUTHENTIC Jamaican experience THIS is the place. read more

$5 plus dollars for chicken soup water? The soup should have chicken in it. You can leave out the fat from the cow foot too.

I hate to give one star. The app makes you give something. Just walked in... And just walked out. I waited up front for several minutes with other guests to be seated. The employee was in the back. I was ok. I sat down at 7:54 pm. Waitress arrived at 7:56 pm. This is good... Right? No! She said, " I won't give you a menu because I don't have much food left." I helped her to conserve the food she has. I left. read more

Nice Mon is my favorite Jamaican restaurant!! Excellent food. Friendly service. Had the oxtails and my friend had the curried goad. We were both pleased. Food came to the table quick which was great because we were starving. Ended up leaving because they didn't have anything I wanted off their menu. Seemed very unorganized as well. Plus it wasnt even busy smh

Opening time is 11am. They didn't open til 11:45 and food was still not prepared! Gotta do better on a Friday morning!

I love this place. Nice Clean. The chicken and dumpling soup is my fave. My gaaawd that's the best soup ever.

Very good food. I've had the curried chicken, curried goat and oxtails. Chef balances the peppers well. Rice has a hint of coconut. Only criticism is sometimes pidgeon Peas in rice are undercooked. Same thing for sweet plaintain. Sometimes it's not sweet and hard to chew. I've only had take out so I can't comment on table side service. Front counter staff was friendly. I've vacationed a lot in the Caribbean. This is the closest match I've found in Stone Mountain. read more
