I explained that I had spots before due to a cataract, but this was absolutely different. I was directed to the nurse and I left a message. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon, I realize that no one had gotten back to me and that they closed at four . I called again. Spoke to the same receptionist again. Although her customer service was basic, her attention to detail was poor. I was pretty upset so she said that she would speak to the doctor. I have no idea if she did or not. Long story short I was directed to go to the emergency room if it got worse if not, I could see them the following Tuesday or Thursday. I ended up going to the emergency room at 9 PM and they sent me via ambulance to UC Davis. I had a complete detached retina and a few other complications. I was told by the emergency room doctor and also by a doctor that I spoke with at UC Davis that had I waited, I could have completely lost my vision. The next week I called the office and asked to speak to the office manager. I was told first that he was out sick, then I was told that he was at lunch, and then I was told he went home for the day. I actually left two messages for him. To this day I have never received a phone call back from anyone. To add insult to injury, I received a phone call back from the nurse on the following Monday. She stated I should get a hold of the front office and let them know that I needed an appointment. Again, no urgency. It was obvious that they did not communicate with one another. I understand that I am certainly not the only patient but this was a true emergency. In the past, I have had amazing care at this office. I saw Dr. Chen for years and have great respect for him and his son. I am highly disappointed that I have not received a phone call back and that no one actually cared that I was literally going blind. I would recommend UC Davis, Eye Center for any issues that anyone has. In closing, I will not be returning to this office . I am only sharing this in hopes that they may actually listen to the next patient with this or any other issue. I've never waited more than two weeks for a pair of glasses, and we've had many, many glasses over the years. I'm not sure why there are so many complaints about the wait or the cost. They have many low-cost, all the way to high-end options. Very happy being a patient here. They take great care of you! The optometrist has even been kind enough to stay late for emergency appointments for my husband or squeeze him in when it's urgent. Couldn't ask for better care!
