Hello?? This place was so vibey and perfect for a small gathering. And it does help that the server was really cute and the chefs were accommodating to my dietary restrictions. Our table managed get seats for winterlicious and they managed to get us earlier seating so we wouldn't have to go so late for dinner. We also managed to hit every main course meal on the menu so you can see what we got. And since we did this we managed to share and taste a little bit of everything! Not bad for 35$! I'm not vegan but due to my restrictions it was easier for me to ask for vegan or no cheese (bless the server for checking if I could eat beef) The complementary potato soup is vegan and it was lovely and creamy without the cream. The beef tartar was a bit sour for my taste but it was nicely seasoned. I'm sure it would've been great with the saltiness from the Parmesan. My partner for the Korean fried chicken with truffle sauce and spicy sauce (this was reaaaally good), and my friend ordered the shrimp... Nicely balanced flavours. Of all the apps I'd recommend the Korean fried chicken and the shrimp. For the mains I got the vegetarian (turned vegan just for me) sunchoke pasta. I loved my plate the most but I also tried the duck and that was a very strong contender too. I sampled some of my friend's salmon and the fish was perfectly cooked with the skin remaining crispy and the meat still moist. I didnt try the other two since it had a lot of cheese. But my wife wolfed down her pasta. According to her, Creamy and full of the chargrilled shrimp flavour that she loves. To finish I got the pineapple and lemon sorbet (which coincidentally Does happen to be vegan, they just didn't mark it with a V on the menu). My wife's white chocolate mousse was very sweet (maybe too sweet for her palette but my other friend loved it) and my other friends dessert was the sticky toffee pudding ... no chocolate flavour, but very sweet from the dates. But also mind you that this is a group of Asians, sweets are too sweet for us. If you like really sweet then both of these options are good. I liked my pineapple dessert since it was more naturally sweet, tart, and more balanced. So worth it!

The ambiance is great for a date/ small intimate gatherings with family/ friends. Overall the food was really good for its price point, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a nice dinning experience without making a big hole in their wallet! It's located right in front of a TTC stop, so it's super easy to get to via public transit.

A cozy spot redefining French fusion in Toronto. * Melon gazpacho: lightly sweet and refreshing. It's actually a nice palate cleanser to start the meal. * Scallop carpaccio: bright, clean, and silky with just the right hit of sour. * Shrimp tartare: This dish is fun in both texture and flavour. * Beef tartare: a little bold, umami, but nicely balanced. * Duck confit: nicely cooked and crispy skin. It's rich, earthy, and very comforting. * Striploin & frites: juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked to a perfect medium rare. * Cocktails: They were all well-made and refreshing. The space is intimate and relaxed, with kind, attentive staff. They make French food feel more approachable and more affordable with their prix fixe menu and happy hour deals. Definitely coming back for more.

TLDR: Cute little downtown restaurant that offers $38/person Prix Fixe for three courses. Their menu items for their Prix Fixe does seem to change monthly so I would be interested in returning to try out other dishes at such a good price point. -[BEEF TARTARE] $21 *Beef tenderloin, anchovy, horseradish, soy sauce, garlic confit aoli, taro chips *Love that it came with crispy, freshly made taro chips because they were light enough to let the flavors of the beef shine -[PRIX FIXE] $38 x2 -[STARTERS] *BOUILLABAISSE MUSSEL & BURNT TOAST: saffron bouillabaisse, tomato, bell pepper, and cilantro aioli *POMME DAUPHINE & HOUSE DUCK PROSCIUTTO: bacon & cabbage puree, horseradish crema, potato crumble, duck prosciutto, and herbs oil * The latter was what I ordered but tbh I didn't taste any bacon/duck at all and the portion was tiny - still fun to try and tasted good but the flavors were lacking compared to what the menu outlined for the dauphine -[ENTREES] *BULGOGI BURGER: house aioli & pickled cucumber, cheddar cheese, lettuce, sliced onion, and frites *CREAMY GOCHUJANG PASTA: house gochujang sauce, chili oil, parmesan cheese puffed quinoa, pickled chili *I love a good fusion dish and this (the pasta) was well executed - I only wish they offered this pasta dish with a protein because I didn't feel full after finishing it. The burger was pretty darn good though! -[DESSERTS] *TOFFEE PUDDING: caramel sauce and whipping cream *EATON MESS: maple marscapone cheese, strawberry compote, candied walnut, and strawberry chantilly *The eaton mess wasn't something I'd had before and made for a nice finish to the meal *Seating can be a bit awkward as the width of their restaurant isn't particularly spacious so couples can end up sitting close to other couples (within earshot of hearing their entire meal's conversation) *With all of the above being said though, it is tough to beat $38/person for three courses especially downtown and they change up their offerings every couple of months so I'd be down to try them again

We came for the prix fixe lunch (a great deal at $25) on a weekday and we loved our experience. We were seated quickly, the restaurant was not too busy - a few tables filled - and soft music playing in the background. We ordered the salmon and chicken mains, and we loved the food. They have interesting takes on French cuisine (with a little Asian flair, soba paired with seared salmon; kimchi and chicken thigh with orzo). The cook on the salmon was superb, crispy skin and not overcooked. My partner also enjoyed the chicken thigh. For us, the amount of food for lunch was just enough without falling into a food coma. Service was good, attentive and food came quickly - really impressive as it was a one-man show when we had visited. This was our first visit and will definitely be back! Looking forward to the dinner 4-course prix fixe ($38) next.

My work mom booked us a table here for dinner on a Friday night around 7pm, and we were both shocked at how many empty tables there were. Like... how is this place not packed? The food here seriously deserves way more love. We both started with the pan-seared shrimp--it was bouncy, tender, and perfectly cooked (not overdone at all!). Such a simple dish but done really well. For mains, my work mom went with the shrimp bisque pasta, which was super rich and creamy, with that deep seafood flavour you want in a bisque. I went for the salmon steak, and I'm so glad I did. It came with a coconut curry sauce, and I'll admit--I didn't think that combo would work... but it absolutely did. The sauce was light and flavourful, and it paired surprisingly well with the crispy-skinned salmon. Totally changed my mind. Then came dessert. The Eaton Mess was light and refreshing--mascarpone layered with strawberry compote that wasn't too sweet, just right. But the pineapple brulee stole the show. Caramelized pineapple with a scoop of lemon sorbet on top? That combo was magic. Sweet, tangy, warm and cold all at once. For $38? This meal felt way more elevated than what you'd expect at that price point. Honestly, it's a steal. Don't let the quiet dining room fool you, Ngogo is the real deal.

We got the March prix menu. We were able to try many differ dishes that was good. The chicken katsu was really good and loved the sauce that went with it. The salmon was cooked perfectly but there were some scales on the skin. For desserts the Eaton mess was not bad. The toffee pudding was really good. With 3 courses for $38. Can't go wrong with that and try their unique fusion of flavours.

This place is good for a date night. Lunch is just $25 for a 3-course meal -- we had pan-seared shrimp, salmon steak, chicken thigh steak, and ended with the dreamiest white choco & mascarpone mousse. Appetizers like their beef tartare and house gnocchi with Hokkaido scallop are only $10 which is a good deal. We also tried their cocktails -- the Cool Peace & Signature Mojito are chef's kiss. Highly recommend. Very attentive staff too, nice service.

This is the first time I've ever felt like doing something for a restaurant -- it's that good! The food and service are amazing, yet the prices are surprisingly low, which makes me want to support them even more. The prix fixe lunch is now $25 (it used to be $28, I think), which feels almost too affordable for the quality you get. Every dish is crafted with such care and flavor -- I'd say it's comparable to what I've had at restaurants charging $200+ per person. The service is exceptional -- warm, gentle, and quietly attentive. It's the kind of hospitality that makes you feel at ease the entire meal. I'm not someone who usually posts photos, but I even borrowed a couple from my friend because this place truly deserves more attention. Absolutely love it and would 100% recommend!

I recently dined here for a friend's bday. To be frank, the highly rated reviews and pricing did not correlate with food quality for me. They have a $38 prixe fixe menu and I tried the following: - Appetizer: Ngogo Caesar Salad - Lettuce, Bacon Bits, Miso & Parmesan dressing, Croutons, Cured egg yolks, Sesame powder. This was good but it comes as a half head of lettuce. One of my friend's ordered this but said it was a bit too much work for her as you need to cut it yourself. - Main: Salmon Steak with Clam Chowder, Onion, Carrot, Celery Fish Broth, Baguette, Puffed Quinoa. The salmon seemed a bit undercooked though the skin was crispy. - Dessert: Pineapple Brulee with Lime & Pineapple sauce, Lemon Sorbet. This was the most disappointing, I thought it would be a brulee with pineapple but it's literally just a slice of pineapple with caramelized sugar and small scoop of sorbet. Probably should have asked them to explain what it was since there was no further description. Other friends in the party ordered the following: Duck Confit, Creamy Gochujang Pasta, Bouillabaisse Mussel & Burnt Toast, Eaton Mess. I think these were better options but even the Duck Confit that seems popular, my friend said was a bit too salty. As for atmosphere, when we first arrived there was a huge group of 12 or more people. They were a bit too rowdy and made it hard to talk over. Atmosphere got better after they left. Overall, resto missed the mark for me and I recommend they overhaul of the menu.

Came here for summerlicious with friends. The portions are petite, and meals were light. It was okay, nothing specific stood out but okay overall. The table next to us ordered extra entree after as they were not full either. Service was okay and location was lovely.

Tried the $38 prix fixe menu and I would recommend you try it. For starters, we ordered the fried chicken and it was cooked to perfection. Crispy and juicy and flavourful. The quantity was also good. Next we had the duck confit and duck breast entrees. Both dishes were also cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and had crispy skin. The cream cabbage and barley was also a nice side to the dishes. The only thing I'd suggest is to add some green to elevate the plating. For dessert, we had the Eaton mess and the toffee pudding. Eaton mess was good and has a similar taste profile as a strawberry shortcake. Fresh and fruity. The toffee pudding was also pretty good. The dinner also started with a complimentary mini French onion soup. This was delicious. The service is also polite and friendly. Ambiance had a cool hipster vibe. Music was trendy. Note that there is extra cost of you want the duck confit or duck breast All in all, had an enjoyable dinner and I'd come back if in the area.

We had a fantastic meetup experience at this newish spot in Queen West on a Monday! I noticed the sidewalk sign with the weekday specials advertised including buck-a-shuck Mondays, so we had to go. It's in one of those small cozy spaces in Queen West where the front half is the dining area, and the back half is the open kitchen. Since it was packed on a Monday, the three of us sat at the bar which faces the kitchen. It turned out to be a fun spot to sit and eat and chat. We had great service sitting at the bar as well. The oysters were a nice medium size which was a bargain! Some other buck-a-shuck specials only offer the tiniest oysters available. We also tried the steak tartare which was delicious as well. The cocktails are all $12 which is a bargain (no happy hour special available) and they were strong and delicious, although not as fancy presented as some places. Atmosphere was electric with many date night couples there when we visited enjoying the good deal on oysters but also the other items on the menu. On Tuesdays, it's half price steak frites and Wednesdays it's half price wine so go go go!

We started with cocktails -- the Beurre Noisette (Brown Butter Spring Mills Whisky, Spice Rack Demerara, Aged Bitters) and the Eau Poivre (Tromba Blanco Tequila, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Cointreau, White Pepper, Lime, Cucumber Bitters). Both drinks were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. For starters, we had two French Onion Soups (rich beef broth, red wine, caramelized onion, toasted baguette, and Gruyère cheese), which were seriously comforting and, in my opinion, some of the best French onion soups in the city. We also shared the escargots with garlic, butter, parsley, lemon, and brioche -- classic and satisfying. For mains, my date ordered the Duck Confit Cassoulet with Herbes de Provence sausage, lardons, white beans, tomato, parsley, and jus, and I had the Beef Bourguignon with braised beef, pomme purée with carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms, and bordelaise. Both dishes were beautifully cooked and rich in flavour. We finished with crème brûlée (vanilla bean custard with Chantilly and berries) and lemon curd cheesecake (pâte sablée with lemon curd and blueberries). Both desserts were a lovely finish to the meal. The place was busy without feeling chaotic, and the service was friendly and professional, even if a little slower than I expected. Both were beautifully presented, with the chocolate tart decadent but not overly sweet, and the pudding chômeur warm and nostalgic... a cozy, satisfying way to finish the meal. Overall, Canoe's Winterlicious dinner offered a well-rounded experience with elevated flavours, thoughtful service, and one of the best views in the city. While some dishes felt richer than expected, the ambiance and presentation made it a memorable evening. Perfect for a belated birthday treat or any special occasion where you want to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Service is attentive, and the no-tips policy makes the experience more relaxed and enjoyable. The appetizer, a slow-cooked egg, is a standout. The onsen egg paired with corn cheese sauce, crispy Italian lard, and sourdough is aromatic and layered with flavors. Every bite has a perfect balance of textures. The confit salmon has a texture between raw and medium, tender and delicate without being dry. The dry-aged steak is juicy and flavorful, with rich fat and aroma that lingers beautifully. And they don't accept tips, which is very wallet-friendly, haha. The appetizer, the sous-vide egg, was very unique. The combination of a soft-boiled egg, cheese and corn sauce, Italian pork lard crisps, and sour dough was an explosion of flavor--a rich and complex experience in both texture and taste. The confit salmon had a texture between raw and medium-rare, not dry at all, but not as raw as sashimi. The dry-aged steak was incredibly tender and juicy! Every bite was bursting with the aroma of the fat. The six courses cost a total of 115 pence, and the servers didn't neglect the guests despite the lack of a tipping policy.

Nestled inside a hotel with its own private elevator, the entire arrival experience already sets the tone for something special. The atmosphere is nothing short of stunning. You get sweeping Lakeshore views, a refined yet warm dining room, and service that is both professional and genuinely welcoming. The servers make you feel completely taken care of without being overbearing, which is exactly what you'd expect at this level of dining. As for the food--unsurprisingly, everything is exceptional. Every dish feels carefully thought out, beautifully plated, and full of flavor that balances creativity with tradition. This is not just dinner; it's an experience. Even the small details stand out, from the wine pairings to the impeccable timing of each course. And here's something unexpected: the bathroom is worth a visit on its own. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls give you the feeling of floating above the city--but don't worry, they assure you it's one-way glass. It's a little surprise that adds to the unforgettable character of the evening. If you've ever wanted to understand what Michelin-star dining feels like--without leaving Toronto--Don Alfonso is the place. It's elegant, memorable, and easily one of the most unique culinary experiences in the city. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates fine dining.

The food itself was not amazing. The truffle butter was the best part. Really great. The dish with duck and squash really did not taste like a good pairing. The pastas and the bison were both really under seasoned. The opener and the dessert were both ok, but not memorable.

We were so impressed that we came back for lunch the next day; the burger and frites were expertly prepared, with the chargrilled flavor and bun really standing out. Biff's was packed for lunch, which was great to see. We actually returned for a third visit on Friday! The General Manager, Jessica, gave us such a warm welcome and even treated us to a small crock of their spectacular French Onion soup. Hal took over behind the bar and kept the momentum going with more excellent cocktails. Biff's is officially on our list for dinner the next time we're in Toronto.

Also got myself a drink to go with it all! -[CHICKEN LIVER PARFAIT] 10/10 Would literally come back just for this dish alone haha. The amount they give you in chicken liver parfait is EXTREMELY generous and you can taste how fresh it is in that they made it recently. Just delightful all around and it's served with their pickles (imo get more of their pickled onions because that paired best with the sourdough and the chicken liver) and grilled sourdough -[BRAISED BEEF SHORTRIBS] 7/10 This dish had a generous amount of braised beef served over a bed of creamy polenta, broccolini, rosemary jus, and sauce vierge. Truthfully, this dish lackee a bit of flavor when not eaten with bites of the sauce vierge (often described to be a bright, tangy, and fresh, combining tomato, citrus, and herbs). The polenta was also an odd choice in my eyes for being paired with the braised beef as I felt like it couldn't enhance or absorb the flavors around it. Still solid as part of the winterlicious menu but I would opt for a different main in my next visit :') due to the aforementioned -[POT AU CHOCOLAT] (10/10) This is a very generous amount of chocolate custard topped with chantilly, a sable cookie, and cocoa nibs. I loveeed the flavor profile of this as it tasted like it was made with a darker chocolate so it wasn't too sweet and the chantilly had hints of coconut flavor in it :D I just felt very full afterwards because the portions of all the food were so large haha (not a complaint, I swear) The french onion soup here is also very good but my god, get the chicken liver parfait unless that isn't something up your alley! Our server was also amazing and told us they could bring us more bread if needed for the chicken liver parfait and they also checked in on us at the right times and not when my mouth was full of food - it makes all the difference, truly :D

The location is at the new CIBC Square Food Court and this restaurant is with a Michelin Guide recommendation. The staff was attentive, she messaged me a day before to check-in on our preferences. The restaurant was small than I expected with bar setting, sofa tables, and regular tables. I love the atmosphere there, classy and cozy. We ordered the 3-courses Winterlicious menu. We had Octopus Carpaccio, Forie Gras Parfait as appetiser. Both were delicious, a little bit sour for the Carpaccio, but the Parfait was perfect. For Main, we had Short ribs steak and house-made pasta, the portion of the short ribs steak was a little bit small, but the steak is tender. For dessert, the waitress recommended us for Biscoff Cake, which was a unique item for Winterlicious. I love the cake, it was soft and creamy. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. The wedge salad was super fresh, and the foie gras parfait was very well executed. Both the signature Aloette burger with Beaufort cheese and the fried chicken sandwich were excellent. But the highlight was the lemon meringue pie! The lemon curd and meringue were some of the best I've ever tasted. Oh, I almost forgot to mention their cheddar cheese bread! Sooo good! I'm officially a fan of Aloette!
