I was so excited that a Veggie Grill finally opened in Pasadena! Unfortunately they completely messed up our order... What we ordered: Crispy Cauliflower Santa Fe wrap, no tomatoes, side of Yukon gold fries Banh Mi wrap, with jalapeños What we got: Cold crispy cauliflower Buffalo chicken' wrap, with tomatoes, side of cole slaw Banh Mi wrap, without jalapeños On top of that, our food came out lukewarm/cold, like it's been sitting out for a while. We weren't going to say anything at first, but when the waitress asked us how everything was, we decided to let them know so they would know to improve next time. Not only was she extremely apologetic, she also insisted that she would let her manager know. We really were not expecting anything - however, we were a little irked after we saw the waitress talk to the manager, and he even looked over at our table, but he never took the time to come over and acknowledge us or say anything. That's just bad customer service and management in my opinion... I mean the least he could do is come over and give a simple apology, especially since his employee was the one who insisted on letting him know. Our experience was disappointing to say the least, however being a huge fan of other Veggie Grills, I will consider coming back in a few months after they've hopefully ironed out the kinks. read more

Vegetarian food has never tasted so goooooooood. Being that it was my first time ever trying Veggie Grill, I decided to order the most recommended dish here on Yelp. I ordered the Bombay Bowl ($8ish) and I have no regrets. This hot dish had everything I could ever dream of... Curry flavored roasted veggiessss! It had kale, quinoa, white beans, carrots, cauliflower, almonds. It was delicious and healthy! Didn't feel any guilt while almost inhaling my entire dish, lol. I also took a bite of my sister's dish, which was the crispy chickin sandwich ($10ish). It tasted like real chicken when it's actually tofu!! It reminded me of eating a chicken sandwich from elementary school. As for the drinks, I got a pomegranate green tea; light, not too sweet, and refreshing. The lemonade options were too sweet and too sour, imo. Overall, a nice place to grab a healthy and delicious bite. I'll def be back. ALSO! Make sure to download their Rewards App on your phone before visiting.. You can score yourself a $8 credit :) read more

This is my second time here and my mouth has been watering for they're burgers every since my 1st visit 7 months ago! There's no words that describe how delicious the burgers are here. I also tried the tacos today and they were really really good. The Churro Sunday was also delicious! I can't wait to try more from the menu later this week. read more

thursday evening, 7pm, party of 2. WARNING: all of their "meat" dishes are not meat! honestly, i thought it was a healthy-eating kind of place, i didn't realize it was vegan + gluten free + meat free. it was chosen by a friend so i figured, sure, why not, i've eaten at enough of these now that i've gotten the hang of it. it's a big bright place. lots of options - wraps, salads, sandwiches, appetizers. was surprised about the number of options. we ordered the buffalo mini wrap and the B-wing salad. p.s. it's not chicken. it's a type of soybean-wheat. it didn't taste bad but it didn't taste good either. the mini wrap was not so mini and actually quite filling. for those with these strict diet restrictions, even this place isn't tasty. there are plenty of other options in LA with better ingredients that taste more fresh. read more

Veggie Grill's first foray into the SGV, this restaurant sits at the busy SE corner of Lake and Cordova, across the street from LA Fitness. There is an entrance on Lake or from the parking lot serving the shopping center with 2 hour parking. I ordered the BTLA, which has "smokey tempeh bacon, sliced tomatoes, avocado, cilantro pesto-tossed arugula, aioli mayo, grilled sourdough." The option was presented for a wrap instead of sourdough, but I went with the bread. I also had the Portobello Fries (sliced like a french fry) using a very delicate, crisp batter with a little salt and parsley. It's very good. I tried the Black Beans and Quinoa Mini Bowl, which was very savory and tasty; not spicy at all. I also really enjoyed their Cauli-Mashed Potatoes and Gravy (made of porcini mushroom with rosemary). I liked most of my dishes, though I can't say I liked the smoked tempeh very much--there was a bitter note to it that really wasn't working with the rest of the sandwich. In retrospect, I should have gone with the Santa Fe Crispy Chickin', which I sampled and it was good. There were beverages available, but I went with their filtered water, since I was saving my sugar for dessert--as it turns out I was too full to even ask for dessert (carrot cake or a chocolate chip cookie). The carrot cake is big enough to share or have on its own if you really are hungry, but the food is healthy and filling. The portion size is generous, but not overwhelming. Overall, I liked dining at Veggie Grill and see myself coming by again soon. If you enter or leave through the back to the parking lot, you will notice the restrooms with the coded keypad. The code as of 12-13-14 is "12345," which is amazing, since it has the same passcode as my luggage AND evidently Sony Pictures' I.T. Department! read more

Veggie Grill is good, satisfying flavor! Came here for lunch on a Saturday with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. ATMOSPHERE: Cute, hip, roomy! Order at the counter and someone will bring the food to your table. Loved the blown up "celebrate!" posted over the beverage table. It has a very warm, happy feel. FOOD & DRINK: I don't like vegetarian options that try to taste like meat (eg: "chicken" sandwich, "fish" tacos, etc.) so I got the tofu banh mi and portobello fries. Let me tell you, homie, those fries aren't pretty... but they are yummy! I've never had portobello fries so thick. Very tasty! They came with two sauces--red and white. The white sauce tastes mayonnaise-based, while the red sauce has more veggie flavor and a bit of spice. The banh mi was also very good. It was loaded with veggies and sweet, glazed tofu. We ordered ours with a side of cole slaw, which was heavy on the dressing (much to my enjoyment). They have a variety of teas and strawberry lemonade at the beverage counter, including sugar-free options. PARKING: In addition to street parking, there's a big lot behind Veggie Grill where you can park for free. read more

Another excellent Veggie Grill location. Spacious, clean, modern interior, great, huge menu, nice speedy service. Again, I got the fried cauliflower, since trying it months ago, it is all I get here, I do enjoy some of their other items, but the cauliflower is the best, the sweet and sour liquid crack, get two, thank me later. read more

Usually I find myself having misgivings about any place that tries to make vegetarian fare feel less... well... vegetarian. However, the food from veggie grill has magically found a sweet spot in that category. On their website, they say that it "redefines classic American comfort food." Though they do this, they add a certain charm and efficiency that has to be highlighted in this cultural melting pot. (snacks + shares : a category similar to starters) I've tried all their fried offerings: the crispy cauliflower makes me think it has an Indian inspiration and warrants repeated eating(4.5/5); the crispy portobellos provide a crunch I've never cracked before on a mushroom and it's really a treat (3/5); the sweetheart fries are really excellent and can be customized with "cheese" and with different sauces(3.5/5); the buffalo and other wings need a section of their own because they appear in many iterations on their menu... They are the perfect replacement to real chicken wings in texture and sauce, yet they don't make you regret eating too many (5/5). The cauli-mashed potatoes and gravy really do a good job blending consistency with and adding flavor to an old hand. (Burgers + hot sandwiches) This is an area of the menu I need to explore more. So far the Santa Fe Crispy Chickn' has captured me to the point that If I consider a fried sandwich anywhere, I'd want it to be this one. The texture of their Chickn' and the freshness of the toppings guarantee a good all-around sandwich (3.75/5). The Papa's portobello (grilled) is an excellent and simple meal (3/5). The buffalo bomber is another iteration of the b-wing's Chickn' (2.75/5). (Salads) My favorite salad is made entirely of my least favorite green: kale! The all hail kale uses tiny marinated pieces of kale balanced with perky bits of vegetables to make an excellent mouthful and a real challenger to Tender Greens (4/5). The b-wing salad is an inverted buffalo wing serving, with the "wings" topping crisp lettuce, celery, and other bits of vegetable freshness(3/5). The blackened Chickn' in the Thai Chickn salad is ok, but really doesn't offer any interesting aspects to this salad (2/5). Soups, desserts, drinks, etc. The daily soups are good, though they don't steal much attention from the main meals. I find the lentil to be my favorite. The only dessert they have other than a cookie is the carrot cake. I was waiting on the line before Christmas and so many people were waiting in line to purchase a full pan of this cake. The people in front of me were out of luck and they were all sold out. So the following visit, I had to try this cake. It is very airy and moist and sweet (like most vegan treats). If I didn't order a starter or side, I'd probably order this again(2.75/5). Their beer, soda, and sparkling water selection is good, but their limitless refills of good strawberry lemonade always makes me happy. Take away: While I have eaten at other Veggie Grills, there is something that feels a bit warmer about this one. And it's certainly worth your time coming and investigating their veggie palate. What this place lacks in gourmet appeal, it really gains in variety and depth of its uses of vegetable ingredients. The speed and friendliness of service is excellent (as it is at all VGs, really reflecting poorly on the service at some other salad-making facilities). read more

Veggie grill has some really amazing burgers that will really make you question why you haven't become a vegetarian or vegan yet. This restaurant is a completely vegan friendly place that is great for everyone! Usually I'm a big meat eater but this restaurant makes me rethink. They have a large selection of items that have meat substitutes inside them. Their southwest chicken sandwich is so amazing it's hard to believe it's not real chicken. I also tried two of their burgers and they were pretty good as well but still couldn't compare with the chicken. They have a lot of other appetizers as well which may be good to get if you're a big eater. The portions here aren't that large but is great if you're on a diet. Although this place is obviously more expensive than most restaurants. It's worthwhile because the food is definitely delicious. You can tell that the spent a lot of time preparing the dishes to ensure that they taste as good as the real meats. Overall I thought the restaurant was really great. Would definitely go back. The ambiance is nice and clean. Staff is friendly. The best part is you can eat here without feeling guilty about hurting cute animals! :) read more

Food is fresh! You feel fresh! You basically feel good about what you are ingesting - knowing that your bowl/plate is full of greens and healthier protein sources. Flavors are so well combined allowing you to live a little while sticking to healthier options. While I am known for my hatred of vegetables, I can appreciate them from time to them. Especially when they are as well cooked and assembled as they are here at Veggie Grill! The food here is pretty good despite being vegan ;) There is a large shared parking lot in the back which is free for two hours. Location is easy to access, interior is pretty big and there is plenty of seating inside. We used the restroom as well (you need the code: 12345) and it has two stalls for patrons to use. I got the following: -- B.T.L.A.: Smokey Tempeh bacon, sliced tomatoes, avocado, cilantro pesto tossed arugula, aioli mayo, grilled sourdough They offer their sandwiches on a wheat bun, on a spinach wrap, or bread-free Kale Style. This already comes on grilled sourdough, however, so I didn't need to make a choice. You can get their sandwiches with Yukon Gold fries, coleslaw, or a cup of seasonal soup. I chose the coleslaw. The sandwich was delicious and the coleslaw was quite refreshing. I liked this choice. -- Portobello Fries The slices of mushroom were too big for me. Not enough "fried" to balance the mushroom taste/texture... my friend JC shared this with me and we agreed we wouldn't get it again Overall I enjoyed my meal here and recommend this place for healthy food on Lake in Pasadena. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. read more

I thought I had already reviewed the newest location in Pasadena but I guess I had not. The food is delicious and typical of what you will find at other Veggie Grill locations. So far I have been to three of them in L.A. I've been to the one in El Segundo, Hollywood (next to the ArcLight) and now this one. I've had their burger with sweet potato fries and the strawberry lemonade. They do have a small selection of craft brews, too. Be warned that the lines sometime stretch out to the front sidewalk. I do believe that there is still some ongoing construction but in any event - a Veggi Grill in Pasadena is what the doctor ordered. read more

This is a new veggie grill in Pasadena. We went on a Friday since as a Catholic I couldn't eat meat that day. I had heard great things about them. Parking in Pasadena is always tough. If you are lucky you can find street parking or else pay for it. We got there around 7pm. It was pretty packed. We managed to place our order quick and also take our seats. It got really packed afterwards. They were pretty understaffed. Our food took a little while to arrive. We ordered the Buffalo wings and cauliflower mashed potatoes as appetizers. Both were good...especially the wings. You can't tell they are not real wings. The sauce was perfect! I had the crab cake sandwich and my girlfriend had the Buffalo bomber sandwich. The bomber was the bomb! The crab cake not so much. The chicken noodle soup was good and the French fries were pretty standard. The strawberry lemonade was excellent. For a place that doesn't serve meat they do a pretty good job serving pretty tasteful food. I'll stay away from the crab cake but am game for the rest! read more

This place is the bomb. It takes a certain level of maturity and dedication to decide you want to be healthy about your diet. Sure exercise will help your heart but your diet is about 80% of the equation. To be clear, I am not a vegetarian. But I do follow a raw/vegetarian diet five days out of the week. On weekends I allow myself a pass to have sushi, a piece of seabass or other seafood. Rarely poultry. And my special occasion treat is a burrito! At veggie grill you can get a large variety of vegetarian friendly dishes. My preference are the salads and bowls bc I don't need extra carbs or like the fried stuff. Bombay bowl, quinoa power salad, all hail kale, etc, they're all amazing. I usually grab mine to go then chill at home. (This is not a date spot or anywhere to impress your SO ppl). I also like to mix in some home ingredients (grapes, cashews, almonds, raisins etc). Anyway it's healthy and delicious. I would give it five stars but it could be a bit more affordable. Not as much as Lemonade but just as tasty! read more

I still would have to give this place a solid 3 stars. I've had amazing vegan dishes at Cafe Gratitude (which everyone should check out) but Veggie Grill is just okay. I went back a second time and had the Bad Boy Burger and fried cauliflower. The burger had much more flavor than the first bowl I tried but the patty was pretty dry and it again felt like something I could easily make myself at home, so why make a trip and leave a tip? The coleslaw it came with was not memorable. However, the cauliflower was delicious! Also the employees are very friendly- good service is always appreciated. I've never had any issues when I dine in or order pick-up here -- food's always good, service is usually pretty prompt. Definitely a nice, casual eatery for vegans and omnivores alike. But for whatever reason, this location CANNOT get delivery right. About 90% of the times that I've ordered delivery from this specific location, something has been wrong with the order. Most commonly, salad dressing is missing. If it had happened once, it wouldn't be a big deal. But orders have arrived to me incomplete or incorrect so many times, that it's worth knocking off two stars. TLDR; good food, but don't order delivery unless you're okay with not getting everything you ordered. read more

I am not vegetarian but I definitely enjoyed this place! I mean, if you come here, wanting some delicious umami food, you are coming to the wrong place. With that being said, if you are vegetarian, you'll probably love this place! I had been meaning to come to veggie grill since they put up their sign. Lake Avenue has had very little change in the food scene up until recently, so I was really excited to try this place. I had the Crispy Portobellos, which are basically portobello fries. That was so delicious, but I'm a really suck for portobello fries. It came with ranch and this creamy roasted red pepper sauce. I enjoyed the red pepper sauce because it was a little bit smoky and had a nice spice to it. I also ordered the BTLA- This was a sourdough sandwich with tempeh bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and a light spread of mayo. I thought that the bread was a little bit too soggy, but maybe it was sitting out for a little too long while we were waiting for the other plates? I still enjoyed it but it would have been really good if the bread was crispy. The store also has different types of lemonade, which my husband tried and really liked the majority of (yes, he tried them all). The last plate we shared was the harvest plate... which my husband was unaware that it was imitation sausage. About 4 bites into it, he chews and looks at me and goes, "is this real?" WOMP. Still, the plate was good but definitely not our fave. It had quinoa, kales, fake sausage, sweet potato, and some creamy sauce on top. It was a bit bland but the employee said lots of people do like that plate (I suppose they're supposed to say that about everything). The employees were all really nice and kept the store clean and stocked with Sriracha! There is an abundance of seating and parking is available in the back. read more

I order from Veggie Grill on a pretty regular basis, and it offers consistently good plant-based food... I usually get a burger and fries to satisfy that craving but I had the Caesar salad for the first time the other night and it was really good. My only complaint is they use too much plastic. Let me start by saying I am not vegetarian, but I love veggies! I love veggies raw, cooked, blended or juiced. Had been eyeing Veggie Grill for sometime, so I was excited to try it. After first glimpse of menu, I thought, everything was reasonably priced. All menu items are free of meat, dairy, eggs & animal products, so no antibiotics & hormones to worry about. Many of the menu items include gluten-free grains like quinoa, buckwheat, millet & brown rice. I ordered the Crispy Chickin' plate. It is a soy-based protein patty, made to look like fried chicken. Served with cauli-potato mash & steamed kale, it looked & smelled like a chicken fried steak dinner! YUMS! It was delicious. The flavor of the chicken was on point! Tasted, smelled & looked like the real thing. Cauli-potato mash w/porcini gravy was better than your basic mash potatoes & gravy. Steamed kale was even sprinkled with sesame seeds & a light vinaigrette. Must try if you're craving a heavy chx dinner, but without all the grease & calories! No sodas at the beverage bar. Refreshing teas & lemonades instead to be enjoyed. The ginger & hibiscus tea is tasty! Summer menu is also available right now. Gotta try Veggie Grill if you love veggies too! read more

I have no idea what the hype is about here. I tried the Buffalo Chikn sandwich and the penne and veggies dish. As a side we had the cauliflower with the cookie for dessert. Nothing was very good. The food was not hot, and the portions were small. The cookie was not very flavorful, and for what you get the prices are really high. I really want businesses on Lake to be successful, but I just don't get what is so good about Veggie Grill. The atmosphere is great (and that is why it has 2 stars), but the food was just sub-par. Maybe if the portions were bigger, or prices were lower, I could justify higher stars. However, for this quantity, quality, and price, this is clearly a 2 star experience. read more

GLUTEN FREE Nightmare. This review is strictly for the Celiac and GF souls. I've eaten here 4x. And every time I've gotten sick there, I've blamed something different. I order the VG burger on a GF bun with fries. Which is SO DAMN good. However, all is suppose to be GF, and I always end up in pain and dealing with the aftermath 7-10 days later. So I'm left to assume the cross contamination is heavy in this place or there's some real confusion happening at the expense of my life. Thanks. It's a rough, and it's not a damn PREFERENCE. So tired of that question when I order. Like, what difference does it even make if I asked for it GF free?! Does your "give a f***" level change depending? Came back to this location for their Father's Day special (free entree item). The service today was what bumped this review up. The place was packed with people and even the workers were saying it hadn't been this busy since their grand opening. Despite this, the service team had excellent attitudes. We were helped by a person named Vikki, who greeted us with a smile and accepted our mobile app and email deals without issue. She also let us know up front that they ran out of their fries due to the demand so we could sub them with something else. Our group ordered quite a bit, including some appetizers like their wings, sweet potato fries and chargrilled street corn. Our orders came out quickly and accurately, and Vikki swung by later to make sure we had a bag for our to-go boxes. It's pretty tough to find folks who perform well under stress and have a positive attitude. It was also an added benefit that Vikki knew all about their mobile app, email offers and was super efficient. This place has great quality food, but plenty of other restaurants do in Pasadena. The difference made here was the service provided. Their value proposition differentiates them from the rest. Cheers. read more
