First time going - food was good and service was fast. Definitely we'll go back to them, only work up in that area on the weekends. read more

OMG, the egg rolls are to die for!! It's nothing like lumpia or those crappy egg rolls at other restaurant... These are the best ones I have ever had we had sesame chicken and noodles and they were great! This place is in a little shopping area, but don't let it fool you, the food is great and the VALUE is perfect! Infact our new thing for Saturday nights is too get a bunch of their egg rolls.... YUM YUM YUM read more

Best Chinese in the area. Fast and great service. Consistently great American Chinese including general tsao; crab Rangoon; boneless spare rib; Singapore noodles; golden fingers; house fried rice and lo mein. Can't really go wrong, always taste fresh! read more

Spare ribs are good, add some crab Rangoons. The only Chinese restaurant around the area, read more

Went here after it being suggested by a coworker for fast, fresh, and inexpensive Chinese food and it was exactly that! I decided to order take out as I needed to get back on the road. The restaurant is very spacious with about 15 tables and has a really nice and clean bathroom. After checking out the menu I could not decide between the shrimp or chicken with Chinese vegetables, so I asked the lady at the counter what she would recommend. She told me that she hadn't tried either one, so I went with shrimp and vegetables and added broccoli. I am so glad that I did! Everything was very fresh and not overly salty. The shrimp, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, onions, and other vegetables were huge and lightly covered with a clear/white sauce. The rice that came with it was nice and fluffy and paired so well with the shrimp and vegetables. I definitely would return to News Star for their food!! read more

First time getting takeout from here, it was very convenient that you could order online. The food was good, we got crab rangoons pork Lo mein, and sesame chicken combo. Everything was great, the food also was packed in nice plastic container so everything was still hot when we got home. The portions are a good size, I have enough for another meal! We will be ordering again! read more

Hours are great for this town. Food is acceptable for this area. No charm in the service but it's very punctual. Got take out 4+ times by now. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the same dish tasted very different the two times I ordered it. First time it was dry but tasted good. Second time it was moist but so spicy it was difficult to enjoy for my spice level. I don't recall american/chinese orange chicken being spicy hot. Price is accurate IMO. I'm grateful they're around, especially for their hours of business. George's, a block away, has great hours and food. Not too excited about their service though. read more

News Star - Menu Side A from March 2014 - Chinese Near Me - Pascoag, Rhode Island

See all

Very good food. I got the cashew shrimp it was very good never disappointed The egg foo yong was also very good as always

News Star is back, takeout only. They took a couple of months off early in the covid-19 , their old favorites have improved. really speaks well for taking some time off to get perspective on your job. honesty compels me to rate them as good but not great. I am glad to see them back. read more

My go to place!!! I'm a regular and come here often. The food and service is great! The owner here is a sweetheart. She knows who I am when I call and always has my order perfect. read more

Good food good price. The General Tso's chicken has virtually no spice, however. I haven't had a bad experience here.

I'm unsure why anyone would think a Chinese place in the middle of Pascoag would be good... It's not. It is exactly what you would expect. Cheap, quick, mediocre at best. read more

I have eaten here many times and I swear it gets worse every time I go. The food is just really, really bad. I'm all for a little americanized chinese food, it can be really good sometimes. This place is really bad at it though. Everything is just disgusting except for maybe the eggrolls. Chicken is gummy, beef is chewy. Everything tastes exactly the same. MSG, salt, MSG. Maybe a little soy. Go up the road to Wind Tiki or a block down to Thai time. Both of those choices are infinitely better than this dump. read more

Worst lunch I've ever had :( The waitress never made eye contact once! Never asked how things were, when I asked for hot oil she didn't even respond! The food was barely edible and cold! We will never go here again. And we live five minutes away!!! read more

Very good food. I got the cashew shrimp it was very good never disappointed The egg foo yong was also very good as always

This place has been closed since almost the beginning of the pandemic. The food was decent in bad days and excellent on good days and it was the luck of the draw in which you got. read more

I don't know what all the negative reviews are about but this place is off the hook. So good forget Asia grill.

Terrible!!! Service is god awful. When you call to order food the guy answers with "what do you want" . Then you get your food and its slightly worse than last time you bought from them. The only reason I even order from them is because they r the only Chinese restaurant around.. read more

It's cheap, it's OK food, it's fast. I don't really know what more to expect from a Chinese restaurant. The delivery or pickup is fine, but forget about eating in the restaurant, the service is very slow, they didn't even have the heat on when I went there in the winter and I had to request to turn it on. Very to-the-point service, which can be a good thing, but sometimes a friendly demeanor or smile would be nice. read more

Have gotten take-out from here a few times now and we were impressed both times. I see some bad reviews on this place but they are from a couple years ago, I am wondering if they changed management or something? I'm not sure what's up with the two phone numbers and two names I found for them.. also it's kinda hard to find the place.. but the food is good. My husband gets sesame chicken with fried rice and I get lo mien with steamed rice. The rice is not dried out at all, just enough sauce on the lo mien. Flavor on the sesame chicken is great. We LOVE the egg rolls, and the crab rangoons. Downsides are no delivery, the hard to find place, and it is a little pricey but that's typical for Chinese anyway. We'll keep getting our take-out here :) read more

You know if your going to have mediocre food. At least have nice staff! Lady in there was extremely rude to my husband and about four other people behind him today; picking up their food. I don't know if she was the owner or just staff but you don't treat your customers like crap. If you don't want to be there go home and let someone else have the job ! read more

The food is generally good, for a Chinese restaurant in RI. We usually get takeout. The two times we dined in, the service was not so good.

From the multiple times i have gone to News Star it's been fine for me. I use to go to Tin Tin's (what me and my friends call it, not sure how many other people call it that) in the Plaza across from the Burger King at Apple Valley, but News Star was more convenient for me. Overall my experiences were good there was ONE time when my brother and I ordered a few items (4 at max) and they said it was going to be 20 - 30 minutes and after driving there it still wasn't done for another 15 (we even left around 10 minutes after we should have). To be fair there was a semi full parking lot and at least 3 other people in front of us in line and the food we were given was excellent so im going to let it off as it was extremely busy. read more

I get take our from here a couple of times a month and it has always been very good. I like how you can see where they do the cooking so I know how clean it is. I would recommend this to everyone. read more

Just took home veg. Lomein it was not freshly made reheated dry and partly cold . went in trash.

I try to stay clear of Pascoag but I have been here a couple times and have been satisfied each time, the only thing I dont recommend are the crab rangoons (they are run of the mill rangoons but I am very particular so you may like them). Average service, very clean. read more

"The food is generally good, for a Chinese restaurant in RI." "The food is just really, really bad." It may depend on the time of day and cooks/chefs at any given moment. It appears the menu has shrunk and perhaps staff/ownership changes. I had a hankering for some food and now seriously miss the few I had found while living in central Mass. The food was generally awful and overcooked. Dirty wok syndrome as two dishes tasted of the last curry dishes. I won't be back for must of anything there except for perhaps the dumplings that they probably got out of the freezer. read more

Very good food! Fresh, tasty , huge servings. The "Bo-Bo" platter is one of the best my husband & I have ever tasted. Gone back a few times and always very satisfied! Try them, they won't disappoint! Not the friendliest staff, but the food certainly makes up for it read more

hot Asian women most the time the food is good can be overcooked sometimes. i like the Rangoons they are sweet and cheesy. good beef better then most joints but the beef cost a lot. certain dishes with the beef have almost none in it. its overall a good restaurant and like i said there are some fine Asian girls that work there if you are into that like me lol. read more

I come here because I work in town one day a week and they have a few vegan options. Not the greatest Chinese food but the price is right and service is decent. Only thing is they don't know how to answer the phone, always just pick it up and say "hello?" so I follow up with, "is this newstar?" General tso's tofu gets a 2/5 from me. read more

Me and my friends come here at LEAST twice a week. News Star has got to have the best chinese food I have ever tried in Rhode Island. They have wonderful combination platters at EXCEPTIONAL prices. I mean $8 and change for a general tso combination meal , how can you beat that ? News Star may be the only chinese restaurant in pascoag BUT they are the best !!! They also have a cute little dining area with comfortable booths (which is rare to find in a take out restaurant ) . The staff is also really friendly, they always remember my order and my name :) if you are in the area , you must try this place :) read more

Food has always been good. My favorites are the Steamed Dumplings and the Shrimp Fried Rice. Prices are low and Portions are always large.

My boyfriend and I decided to get a quick dinner but didn't feel like going all the way to Lincoln to get Asia Grille (a million times better) so we decided to go to News Star. Although I've been here before and have heard bad reviews about it, I've never experienced anything bad.. until the evening of 7/6/15. We grabbed a menu and sat down at a booth and planned to be served just like any regular restaurant. After ten minutes passed of us not being served, the chef (he was Asian, wore glasses, very rude) came out from the kitchen, slamming the door by the way, and yelled at us saying "Are you going to eat here or what?". I was appalled. Here's a word of advice.. NEVER go here unless you like being treated like crap. By the way, the food wasn't great either. Go to Asia grille or if you don't feel like taking the drive to Lincoln like me and my boyfriend did, go down the street to Thai time. You'll save yourself some aggravation and brain cells. Worst service I've ever experienced. read more
