Went here after it being suggested by a coworker for fast, fresh, and inexpensive Chinese food and it was exactly that! I decided to order take out as I needed to get back on the road. The restaurant is very spacious with about 15 tables and has a really nice and clean bathroom. After checking out the menu I could not decide between the shrimp or chicken with Chinese vegetables, so I asked the lady at the counter what she would recommend. She told me that she hadn't tried either one, so I went with shrimp and vegetables and added broccoli. I am so glad that I did! Everything was very fresh and not overly salty. The shrimp, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, onions, and other vegetables were huge and lightly covered with a clear/white sauce. OMG, the egg rolls are to die for!! It's nothing like lumpia or those crappy egg rolls at other restaurant... These are the best ones I have ever had we had sesame chicken and noodles and they were great! First time getting takeout from here, it was very convenient that you could order online. The food was good, we got crab rangoons pork Lo mein, and sesame chicken combo. Everything was great, the food also was packed in nice plastic container so everything was still hot when we got home. The portions are a good size, I have enough for another meal! Hours are great for this town. Food is acceptable for this area. No charm in the service but it's very punctual. Got take out 4+ times by now. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the same dish tasted very different the two times I ordered it. First time it was dry but tasted good. Second time it was moist but so spicy it was difficult to enjoy for my spice level. I don't recall american/chinese orange chicken being spicy hot. Price is accurate IMO. I have eaten here many times and I swear it gets worse every time I go. The food is just really, really bad. I'm all for a little americanized chinese food, it can be really good sometimes. This place is really bad at it though. Everything is just disgusting except for maybe the eggrolls. Chicken is gummy, beef is chewy. Everything tastes exactly the same. MSG, salt, MSG. Maybe a little soy. Go up the road to Wind Tiki or a block down to Thai time. Both of those choices are infinitely better than this dump. read more

It's cheap, it's OK food, it's fast. I don't really know what more to expect from a Chinese restaurant. The delivery or pickup is fine, but forget about eating in the restaurant, the service is very slow, they didn't even have the heat on when I went there in the winter and I had to request to turn it on. Have gotten take-out from here a few times now and we were impressed both times. I see some bad reviews on this place but they are from a couple years ago, I am wondering if they changed management or something? I'm not sure what's up with the two phone numbers and two names I found for them.. also it's kinda hard to find the place.. but the food is good. My husband gets sesame chicken with fried rice and I get lo mien with steamed rice. The rice is not dried out at all, just enough sauce on the lo mien. Flavor on the sesame chicken is great. We LOVE the egg rolls, and the crab rangoons. Downsides are no delivery, the hard to find place, and it is a little pricey but that's typical for Chinese anyway. From the multiple times i have gone to News Star it's been fine for me. I use to go to Tin Tin's (what me and my friends call it, not sure how many other people call it that) in the Plaza across from the Burger King at Apple Valley, but News Star was more convenient for me. Overall my experiences were good there was ONE time when my brother and I ordered a few items (4 at max) and they said it was going to be 20 - 30 minutes and after driving there it still wasn't done for another 15 (we even left around 10 minutes after we should have). To be fair there was a semi full parking lot and at least 3 other people in front of us in line and the food we were given was excellent so im going to let it off as it was extremely busy. read more

I try to stay clear of Pascoag but I have been here a couple times and have been satisfied each time, the only thing I dont recommend are the crab rangoons (they are run of the mill rangoons but I am very particular so you may like them). Average service, very clean. read more

hot Asian women most the time the food is good can be overcooked sometimes. i like the Rangoons they are sweet and cheesy. good beef better then most joints but the beef cost a lot. certain dishes with the beef have almost none in it. its overall a good restaurant and like i said there are some fine Asian girls that work there if you are into that like me lol. read more

I come here because I work in town one day a week and they have a few vegan options. Not the greatest Chinese food but the price is right and service is decent. Me and my friends come here at LEAST twice a week. News Star has got to have the best chinese food I have ever tried in Rhode Island. They have wonderful combination platters at EXCEPTIONAL prices. I mean $8 and change for a general tso combination meal , how can you beat that ? News Star may be the only chinese restaurant in pascoag BUT they are the best !!! They also have a cute little dining area with comfortable booths (which is rare to find in a take out restaurant ) . Food has always been good. My favorites are the Steamed Dumplings and the Shrimp Fried Rice. Prices are low and Portions are always large.

My boyfriend and I decided to get a quick dinner but didn't feel like going all the way to Lincoln to get Asia Grille (a million times better) so we decided to go to News Star. Although I've been here before and have heard bad reviews about it, I've never experienced anything bad.. until the evening of 7/6/15. We grabbed a menu and sat down at a booth and planned to be served just like any regular restaurant. After ten minutes passed of us not being served, the chef (he was Asian, wore glasses, very rude) came out from the kitchen, slamming the door by the way, and yelled at us saying "Are you going to eat here or what?". I was appalled. Here's a word of advice.. NEVER go here unless you like being treated like crap. By the way, the food wasn't great either. Go to Asia grille or if you don't feel like taking the drive to Lincoln like me and my boyfriend did, go down the street to Thai time. You'll save yourself some aggravation and brain cells.
