Came to Newman Nails at the recommendation of my neighbor and because I had a trip upcoming that I wanted to refresh my nails for. Located off the 33 in the same plaza as Nob Hill. Newman Nails and Spa is one of the few nail salons in the Newman/Gustine area. I was able to make an appointment by phone the day prior for a gel mani/pedi. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted and directed to sit in the massage chair to start my pedicure. The inside is a bit old looking and reminded me of a salon from the 90's (cotton candy pink carpeting, colorful paper lanterns, easy listening radio). As a first timer, I observed the nail techs and I loved how Tom (?) was so vocal and singing along to the music or chatting with his regulars. He seems very nice and warm. Luan worked on my nails and while she was brisk and all business, she did an OK job in under an hour. I was able to simply show Luan a picture of what I wanted - and she did a close replica to the picture. I will say I thought it was strange when she started scratching the back of my calves during the pedicure 'massage' lol I did notice her having to clean up hardened gel from my nails and some air bubbles. After further inspection, there were missed spots of hardened gel and air bubbles on the thumb (which you can't tell from far away). 2 days later, there was lifting from the cuticle end (it would catch when I shampooed my hair in the shower). However I really did love the look of the end result. For a basic gel mani/pedi, I paid $78 before tip. Overall, I wouldn't mind returning. I'll have to try again! read more

My sister and I always go to Newman nails for our pedicures. We get gel or sometimes even overlays on our toes and the quality is amazing. The service is too. Tomas and his family are always very welcoming. we live in Patterson but no one matches the services we get at Newman nails. read more

I went there with my mom and the lady cut her nails horribly and gave her an ingrown toe nail and it got infected and now she is on antibiotic. She also didn't let our polish dry and it got smudged and Only a few days later it was chipped. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would, had an appointment at 4 and after 15 minutes I asked if they were ready they said no that the wait was another 10 minutes, mind you this was NOT a walk appointment was made a day before and they still always manage to overbook people and had many people waiting. The lady that was helping me was nice but seemed she didn't know what she was doing. I wasn't sure if she was new or not and I didn't want to be rude as she was trying her best. I'm not an expert on nails so when it was my time for my manicure I asked if she could add tips. She told me no because it was a manicure. Then I figured if she's just going to paint my nails I could ask for a flower, so I did. She said no there wasn't time and that she didn't know how to. I didn't let it upset me because a few people walked in and were waiting to get serviced. When I left I noticed my nails were uneven and she didn't do a good job cleaning up the problem areas. read more

This nail place is my favorite in Newman. Thomas is amazing at doing acrylics and is a joy to talk to. However, some of the women who do the pedicures speak very broken English and don't seem to understand the options on their pedicure "menu". This face gave me difficulty when asking what paraffin wax was and what it did. This same older lady (I wasn't able to get a name as there are no name tags) that wasn't able to understand what I was asking also hand painted flowers on my big toes as an add on to my pedicure. After further examination of the flowers later that day, I realized that they seemed extremely sloppy; something a certified person probably wouldn't do. Besides this fact, I have not had any other issues with this establishment. read more

Thomas is the best, never hurts or cuts me. Always makes sure I am happy. They do a lot of business because they are good. I understand not everyone speaks the Best English but English is their second language, after all I can't speak one word of their first language yet I go there and ask them to do their best work. So what if they are not fluent in English, I'm not their for the speaking skills they do great pedicures and manicures and full sets. And AFFORDABLE YES. Went on Sunday very disappointed they were rude it was hot and full of flys. Girl who did my pedicure cut me three times, I left with sticky feet and the scrub was still on my legs poor service! I went in today for a pedicure, it was my first time here. They were busy so my pedicure was moving along faster than I would like. I kept waiting for her to trim my cuticles but she kept moving right along. I finally said something right before she started painting my nails. Why should I have to ask to have my cuticles trimmed?? It's part of a basic pedicure. I don't know if she simply forgot or had no intentions of trimming my cuticles because it was more important to rush me out to move onto the next customer. Decided to try this place out there was only one person to do pedicures and manicures got there. One of the young ladies in there was going to attend me I kept asking her what I wanted but she kept trying to redirect me so I decided ok whatever I sat down she kept asking one worker in English what I wanted I kept advising her it's ok to just do a manicure she gave me a really awkward look as I was already feeling uncomfortable she made me feel even worse. I do not recommend anyone to this place unless u like rude service and let them do as u like. I suggest save your money and time to go elsewhere your still going to pay same for the mediocre service they give. read more
