I was hesitant to visit this cafe during previous visits to Collierville due to the name. What is a Newk, anyone? It is a chain and I have a natural tendency to want to rate a chain lower than a locally owned restaurant but I was quite pleased with my experience there. The food is freshly made to order. The Mediterranean pizza was satisfying and had a sufficient of veggies & cheese to crust ratio. I will probably visit this place again when I am trying to get a break from BBQ. read more

A friend and I wanted to get a salad today for lunch and we stumbled across this place today in Colliverllie. We both ordered the Newk's Favorite salad and enjoyed it greatly. The green lettuce mix, grilled chicken, Gorgonzola cheese, dried cranberries, sliced grapes, artichoke hearts and pecans with their vinaigrette went really well together. This Newk's location is not my favorite. My regular menu item is the shrimp avocado salad w/ ranch instead of the menu dressing. Per usual I ask them to toss the salad in the dressing. I didn't see the avocado in my to-go bowl so I asked did they put it at the bottom or toss it. The cook stated that they tossed it. Tossed avocado? But, ummkay. I'm tired. I get home, settle in and no avocado on the shrimp avocado salad. This location just doesn't weigh up to the Cordova location. Try the shrimp avocado salad, though. ZERO stars!! Came in and the staff was eating while rolling silverware for takeout. Next I saw a salad prep person touch the garbage can with gloves on and then start making salads. We asked to speak to a manager and she was outside smoking. She finally arrived. She was embarrassed but did not seem too concerned. My husband said that he would not return until a member of their corporate office called him. That was 2 weeks ago. Not a fast food restaurant. This is Panera Bread, but take out the bakery, and it's a smaller chain version. I know from Wikipedia this is a chain. Otherwise, it should be on Forbes, though Marco's will soon have 1000 locations. The Royal sandwich and the tomato soup are a great pairing when coming together as one. They have a complimentary small food bar with options like jalapeños, cheese, breadsticks, and croutons. They need to open some new locations or otherwise, it won't be that awesome. read more

Disappointed in how Newks cleanliness has diminished. I recently visited to find an old cooler with what appeared to be rust and mildew at the doorway. The full floors were dirty. The salad prep area appear trashy looking. Against my better judgement I ordered the Newk's salad. The chicken was dry and rubbery. Breadsticks!! They have many great choices of soups...some change from season to season. The bread/bun on their sandwiches has just enough crunch to add yet another delicious layer of texture to a great sandwich! This is the worst Newk's with the slowest service! We have ordered here multiple times and every time they get something wrong or leave something out. I've called ahead up to 30 minutes ahead expecting my order to be complete upon my arrival, but instead it hasn't been made and I have to wait for it and then have to request for the missing or incorrect items. Went here with my wife and felt that the money was not well spent. Overpriced for what you get. The sandwich was very good but was way overpriced for the amount you get. The macaroni salad they recommended was tasteless, more like noodles with really bland salad dressing added. I will go back and try one more time but I think the price is really keeping me away. For what you pay you could go somewhere else for a few dollars more and have a way better meal. read more

I visited Newk's again on my most recent trip to TN. I have to up my rating based on the jumbo take-home cups that I filled to the brim (twice) with icy diet Coke and the help yourself bar of peppers, breadsticks and parmesan cheese. Mmmm...so good. read more

Newk's catered my daughter's wedding and they did a fantastic job!! The manager Matt was very easy to work with and helped us pick out the best food for the reception! Everyone at the wedding loved the food especially the pimento cheese and the chicken salad. All of the sandwiches were delicious as well. The workers they sent were very nice to work with. This was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend them for any catering need!! I love the food there and eat there at least twice a month!! Great place with a lot of variety!! read more

Like the expanded version of this location. The line was quite long at arrival, but moved very quick. I ordered a Cobb salad, but a Chef came to the table. Though they both begin with a "C", not close to what I was expecting. This place blew me away. Not because of the friendly staff or the great decor, but the food itself. I had the Margherita pizza, Mac and cheese and a brownie. (Don't judge me, I was hungry). First of all the pizza was perfection. Definitely better than Carrabbas Margherita pizza & I love their pizza. The Mac and cheese -- literally the greatest you'll have in your life. Newks Cafe is located in a strip shopping center directly across the street from the Steinmart/Kohl's complex. Today was my first visit (at around 12:30 p.m). The place was justifiably busy since Collierville seriously needs some restaurants of this genre. My first impression when I walked in was that it was a direct rip-off of Atlanta Bread Company. To be honest, I love Atlanta Bread Company - so I wasn't all that offended. You walk in and order off a menu posted over the cashier's head, collect your drink cup and number, then go to the beverage bar to get your drink and select a table and put your number on a stand and wait for a server to bring your food to you (exactly the same scenario as Atlanta Bread Company). Today, the service at Newks was excellent. The menu items and prices are very similar to Atlanta Bread Company - pizzas, salads, sandwiches, soups and combos of salads/soups/sandwiches. Newks Cafe does offer wine and a few desserts - but does not have a bakery. For a soft drink and meal, figure on spending from $8 to $10 a person. The food is pretty good - it is a definite step above a fast food place and the atmosphere is definitely cozier than sitting in a fast food dining room. That being said, I kept feeling like it was the poor cousin of Atlanta Bread Company. Newks just barely misses the mark when compared to Atlanta Bread Company. The atmosphere and food were good, but Atlanta Bread Company does it so much better. If Atlanta Bread Company was in Collierville instead of eight miles down the road, I would definitely go there first. However, Newks is a very good substitute for a step above fast food and I was pleased enough with my food to be willing to return again. read more

When this Newk's 1st opened a few years back, it was awesome! At the time, I would have ranked it 4 1/2 stars out of 5. However, it has progressively gone downhill the last 1-2 years. The quality has degraded. The portion sizes seem to have been reduced (especially salads). And the prices seem to have gone up. I don't want to generalize on the service, but I have had numerous experiences of people working there being less than enthusiastic and disinterested. My family use to go here 2-3 times per month. Now we haven't been back in 3-4 months and don't plan to do so. Sorry --- its too bad- great concept and start that lost its luster. Much better options elsewhere in the area now. read more

Agree with Jan g. and Cin f. Average food at an above average price. My wife loves the Greek salads but I think I paid over ten bucks. Ridiculous. Also the ordering process is frustrating. Your standing in line and if it's busy it's hard to select from the menu quickly. I like the pizza here but they are not very consistent-- totally depends who is putting on the toppings. I like the Margarita pizza with chicken added- but that turns it into $11 for a small pizza so that's pretty expensive. The salads are giant but for some reason they are not that appealing. I think it's because they use all greens. They load on the toppings so you can easily get 2 salads out of one. Their condiment table is good with a variety of things and bread sticks you can help yourself to. My one warning here is if you get take out--- you will get about half the meal you would get in the restaurant. I don't know why-- but anytime we have ordered take out it is very small portions- especially the salads- compared to ordering the same thing and eating it there. First time going to a newks heard good things and food was ok but the service here was bad. There were only 3 people in the store and 7-8 employees and two tables never got cleaned from the time I walked in to the time I left. What really made me mad is I ordered a shrimp po boy and they left the lettuce and tomato off. I go back and ask them to put it on and they bring it back to my table without the tomato again. I came here for lunch on a snowy Thursday. They were packed, but my order still arrived quickly and piping hot. The staff was very courteous and kept the tables clear allowing for a quick wait before finding a seat. It's not the cheapest lunch option, but I'd definitely come again. It makes for a wonderful sit down break during a long work day. I recommended the Newk's Q. Nothing topped with bacon can ever be wrong. The soups change daily. If you have a food allergy prepare to be met with annoyance and a rude attitude! We walked in and asked for an allergen menu and the girl at the register seemed to take this as a personal insult. While rolling her eyes and letting out a huff, she pulled out a book from the counter and looked at it and just looked at us. We asked if we could see it and she asked the manager if it was okay if we looked at it. He said okay, we looked, informed the manager of how we were treated and promptly walked out. I think this location has some issues. I placed an online order, when i got there exactly on time they seemed confused about who I was, then where the order was. Not at all streamlined like Panera. The clerk was unfriendly, didn't seem to know how to use his words. But what's the worst part is that it was a pizza a friend had at the Newk's on Poplar a week ago that was delicious---this version the chicken was over-cooked and tasted like chicken jerkey...the pizza was cold. My wife loves this place. Her favorite things to order are Black and Blue salad, ceasar salad, club sandwich and NewksQ. I go with her occasionaly and find it quite tasty too. I usually go with a 1/2 club and soup. I love the bread. Chewy and dense. For a lunch place that isn't your typical fast food, you should give this place a try. read more

Newk's Express Cafe is the newest creation of the people who came up with McAlister's Deli. They sold that franchise and are probably looking to expand Newk's. Newk's is a fast casual cafe serving salads, soups, pizza and toasted sandwiches. Most prices range from $6.00-7.00. It's a little pricey for what you get. Newk's tries to be slightly more upscale with their wine and imported beer selection. I guess that's why it's in Collierville. The food itself is okay, but nothing exceptionally thrilling. It does dare to be different from subways or quizno's. read more
