A wicked awesome store, but they became what they railed against. I've been going to Newbury Comics since '83 when they had the first location on Newbury Street. It was exciting. A place for me. Remember the address? Think of Modern Method Records! When I lived in Natick, I went to this store due to proximity; but whilst in university I frequented The Garage almost daily. Slowly in the 1990s vinyl succumbed to CD. The offerings became less and less. Japanese anime, clothing, and plastic bobble heads became the norm. Virgin and Tower also died a slow cancerous death. Newbury, is like an old friend. Meh. Still a decent store, the spirit is still there even though the Do It Yourself flavor, feeling, and attitude of Let Them Eat Jellybeans is not. read more

What an awful store! I went to see if they had Pokémon cards for my son, and an employee came up on me like I was some common thief, telling me that I was in a restricted area. When I told him that there was no sign or barrier, he pointed to a sign way off to the side, moved it in front of me, and then asked me to leave. I left, and I'll never come back to any location. Talk about an organized and pristine retail store . Its so clean and in order here, I'm so impressed. Everytime I walk into this store I get lost in all the nostalgic vinyls, t shirts, toys, posters, and knick nicks. A great feeling. They still have their wall of tshirts which is fun to walk down and see if there are any new ones they have up. If you're into funko pops, this is your store. What used to be prioritized as the t-shirt wall right when you walk in, is now a large (and fully stocked) arrangement of funko pops for sale. I'm personally not into them, but if I were, I'd be in heaven walking through. Their vinyl selection alone could have me browsing in here for hours. They have some vinyls exclusive to Newbury Comincs, plenty of new releases, lots of old classics, and so much more. Like the vinyl's, I often find myself flipping through the posters to see what they've got. Makes me feel like a teenager again. :) Good vibes all around. A great selection of pop culture things. This is such a cool comic and pop culture novelty store! They have a pretty sizable selection of comics, and manga, tons of cool clothes, action figures and pops, and a pretty good variety of vinyls and music memorabilia. Whenever I come here and I just have to look at everything they have. The store is very smartly broken up into different sections based on interest and and type of product, which makes it super convenient to shop in. When you walk in, you instantly get the sense that this is a fun store to be in. I'm always drawn to their figurines and board games and my wife loves checking out their awesomely designed apparel. I can easily lose track of time shopping around, thinking about how to fill our game room with all the cool collectibles here. This has become one of our must-stop-at stores in Natick Mall. It's so fun and full of cool nerdy stuff, along with being really well maintained. I totally recommend checking this place out next time you're shopping at the mall read more

Okay store, but DO NOT BUY POKÉMON CARDS FROM THIS COMPANY. They up charge all their packs and they RE-SEAL them before security tagging them. Got a pack that opened as soon as I touched it and cards were damaged due to the crimping of the machine which sealed the pack again. Take your business elsewhere if you decide to buy loose packs. I've been a long time customer and I'll never buy from them again after finding this out. read more

Anyone who has a teen (or a tween) will surely end up at this place at one time or another. It just has that vibe. My middle son goes to look at the used games. They have some "rare" ones but the prices are really no bargain. I also think the prices on the DVDs are way overpriced too but where else can you go now with all the video stores gone. The main thing about this place is the novelty items. My daughter got a gremlin knitted cap that every adult she runs into make a comment. It also has her labbit fix. If you don't know what a labbit is, then you don't need to - it a pre-teen, girl thing. This is the largest Newbury Comics I have seen thus far and I guess that is good if you need gifts or Christmas presents. read more

Ugh... this place used to be a lot better... When it was across the street near Minado's restaurant, it was wall to wall DVDs, CDs, and novelty items... AND ALMOST NO CLOTHES!!! In the mall... yeah it's a clothing store now with one shelf line of DVDs, and one shelf line of CDs at the back of the store. Yes there are other novelty items, toys, and a decent spread of comic books, and the staff is all points pleasant, but honestly, if you compare this store to Norwood, or even Burlington, it's like you're walking into totally different stores! Each type of music is organized by different categories and not just all tossed into the "Rock/Pop" category like the Natick store. There is no Metal section at all, which both of the other stores have HUGE selections of. Since none of the clothes in the store are anything I would ever wear, my wife and I have pretty much agreed that there really isn't much need for us to venture down the hallway where this store is located in the Natick Mall. It's kinda sad and when you compare it to the other NCs, I feel kind of ripped off! read more

To follow-up on my Norwood review, I wanted to quickly point out that this is my least favorite NB Comics location. I liked the natick location before it moved into the mall, but since having moved, the emphasis seems to have shifted. Fashion and novelties takes up the most real estate in this location (which was probably deliberate, to fit into the shopping mall scene)... probably about 65% of the floor. Once you walk past all of it, you'll find their poorly stocked cd and comics section. So far, I've never found a cd I'm looking for (and I'm not indie pete... I usually am looking at new releases and mainstream stuff), and the comics are always in a complete state of disarray (plus, when a staff member has to ask you where to place a spiderman comic... well... yeah). Honestly, I think the staff at this location can be a bit lazy. too much effort is spent on clothing displays, and not enough on keeping stuff organized. I get that they're trying to appeal to the teenie mall rat population, but they really did sacrifice everything else that makes NB comics great. read more

I used to go in here allthe time to buy cds, and I thought it was just a cool place to look around, however last time I was in there, I got no help whatsoever, even after I asked for help. I found that rude, and they didnt know what they were talking about when it came to ipods for my car. Oh well, I went to best buy and the geek squad was a MUCH BETTER HELP! As stated by Jessica N., this store does lack the charm of the Boston store, even the Amherst store, and yet it has a lot of room for a lot of awesome stuff which is what counts the most! I went into the store looking for two particular CDs years old, I wanted them second hand (because I'm cheap), and the Natick Newbury Comics did not disappoint! I found them both second hand for an extremely low low price quality guaranteed!!!! I am looking forward to future purchases at the Natick store. read more

Been going to Newbury comics since I was about 13 (now 28) and I have bought the majority of my hundreds of cds at this particular location (since I grew up in Metrowest). I've always been into "underground", non-mainstream bands and they've always had what I was looking for (if not, they would somehow get it for me). Always great service, nice people and highly reasonable prices. They are constantly changing the layout of this location to move around new and old products. Despite overall cd sales being down (especially in local indie stores) because of downloading and big-box stores like Best Buy and Wal-Mart, Newbury comics has done an outstanding job keeping things fresh within music, movies, comics, toys, red sox gear, live shows or whatever else they offer at their stores. and also to note: basically my entire collection of glasses at my apartment are those from Newbury Comics and their receive a free glass promotion when buying a new artist's cd or spending over $10. They're always creative designs using the signature happy face. I think I have about 25 now? Thanks newbury comics for providing me with drinking glasses! read more

I am all about this store. I could spend hours browsing in this store and I am a "get in, enjoy, get out" kind of shopper. The best thing about Newbury Comics is their LARGE selection of British television DVDs and the plethora of used CDs!! I always find about $50 worth of items to buy. This store is much better than the Boston store on Newbury St. b/c it's not nearly as crowded! Pretty friendly people in general, they say hi and leave you alone until or unless you need them! I am actually craving a visit but know it would be lethal to my wallet! I did all my Christmas shopping there this past holiday! My brother even likes some weird shows and they had everything. I'm not even sure if their prices are better than Best Buy but I will always purchase there first. read more

This is the nicest, fanciest Newbury I have ever been to. Do you know why that is? They have the CD's sort of as an after thought and it doesn't smell like whatever all the other ones smell like. Still with all there stuff and selection there wasn't anything I found that I liked even after going back three times. I at first walked into this location wicked stoked because the floor plan was huge and there were so many awesome gifts!! As I started to look for records (vinyl) though I quickly noticed that this was not a big store on music. It really is more about the gifts and commodities. FYE around the corner had more music/DVDs!!!! I am a faithful audiophile and that means Newbury comics is a stop no matter what, so if I'm in the natick mall I'll take a swing in, but it will not be my favorite location. read more

This store is much bigger, brighter, and cleaner than the one in Marlborough, and every other one I have been to. The comic selection is very limited because (as I've already said) they sell out of new comics faster than most other comic specialty stores. They have tons of graphic novels, racks of records and cds, and great posters. They have tons of action figures, t-shirts, magnets, and plush figures. As I've said before again and again, the reason I gave them a four was because they don't have what I'm looking for most of the time. While the Harvard Sq store was my first taste and Newbury St location is a classic, it's this store that I go out of my way to visit when looking for a particular CD or weird gift. Its far more organized, well stocked, and not full of college kids and/or tourists. The staff is totally helpful and obviously - for CDs, DVDs and random action figures - it's Newbury Comics - they've got what you need! I always go here with a particular CD or two in mind and end up with a stack of disks plus a toy or something. It's basically a perfect location to spend time browsing and waste a few bucks. read more

I love this store and the chain as a whole. Best place for Christmas presents, including stocking stuffers. If you have a sense of humor, a flair for goth/glam/geek whatever stuff, you will find what you need for silly gifts. I also ordered a DVD online through Amazon, and it showed up so quickly. They recently moved to Natick Mall, but this is still the best store in the area. Shrewsbury and Marlboro aren't as big as this store, and don't have as big a selection. I've been able to find some of the stuff I'm into at this business, so I'll be back. The used CD selection is pretty good. Only thing is that this whole company needs to tone down the "Justin Bieber" obsession. read more

Knowing my basis of going there regularly and knowing it's been standing for well over thirty years it has a high rate of people coming in. Yet as people can tell each one is different and there is a scheme behind that from what I believe talking to one of the owners it's to give a different ambiance to each store and it may not have what everyone's looking for at an affordable price but I find it just exhilarating to be in such a remarkable store I mean after all it takes some guts to run a big business for people of all ages genders and races that they can feel comftrable in! read more

This store seemed really great when I was fifteen, but there's no competition in the area, so that colored my perception. They actually had a decent vinyl area, sold patches, and had some decent used titles. Better yet, they reliably stocked big-name fanzine. Last time I went in, though, I couldn't find many obscurities and the vinyl section looked really small and devoid of punk music. Tsk Tsk... American Idol fans just download their music, CD sales are flagging while vinyl sales are growing, and anything that doesn't cater to the underground or used market is dying ala FYI or Sam Goody's. 'Course they're kind of damned to begin with, because as a chain, underground music fans have long tried to avoid them in favor of the various shops out in places like Cambridge or Northampton. I think this one location might make it despite the changing but, but only because its lone competition is the Hot Topic in the mall. read more
