A wicked awesome store, but they became what they railed against. I've been going to Newbury Comics…read moresince '83 when they had the first location on Newbury Street. It was exciting. A place for me. Remember the address? Think of Modern Method Records! When I lived in Natick, I went to this store due to proximity; but whilst in university I frequented The Garage almost daily. Slowly in the 1990s vinyl succumbed to CD. The offerings became less and less. Japanese anime, clothing, and plastic bobble heads became the norm. Virgin and Tower also died a slow cancerous death. Newbury, is like an old friend. Meh. Still a decent store, the spirit is still there even though the Do It Yourself flavor, feeling, and attitude of Let Them Eat Jellybeans is not.

What an awful store! I went to see if they had Pokémon cards for my son, and an employee came up on…read moreme like I was some common thief, telling me that I was in a restricted area. Stay away!

First off I'll say there are 2 different types of comic book stores. The ones that are so sterile,…read moreclean and organized that you know there are no deals to be had or hidden gems to be found. There at also the stores that are so packed and disorganized that you couldn't find something to get a deal on if you wanted to. Rubber Chicken Comics perfectly straddles the middle ground of those 2 examples. There are loads of boxes with .50 cent comics, $1.00 comics & $5 comics that are regularly refilled and always have people digging through them. They also have an amazing selection of gently used $5 graphic novels. Besides the boxes that all deserve time to dig though they have a clearly marked and organized section of new weekly comics, a wall of recent back issues for on going series and organized bins of older back issues. Somehow this shop also gets the best "wall books" in the area! From huge key books to rare variants, complete sets to signed books, original art sketch covers to golden age back issues. The wall is ever changing with assorted rarities at amazing prices. In addition to the comics they also have action figures (new and old), statues, vintage toys and games and other assorted collectibles. They offer weekly subscription pull list service and allow you to change on a monthly basis and give a 10-20-% discount based on the number of books on your pull list. They have bags, boards, boxes and other supplies as well. I can't recommend this shop enough there is always a great conversation or debate going on and everyone is welcome from the most seasoned collector to the newest comic fan. There is some thing for everyone here! No intimidating clerks or judgmental "Comicbook guys". Check them out!!

He is in my experience the true honest broker. He and his shop have treated me with dignity. I would recommend these guys beyond all others in this business that I have met. Some great people at other shops, I have dealt with, and some thieves out there too, honestly. Ted VanLiew consistently gave me the most upfront and honest deal.

Endless amount of comics, old & new. I found an issue of a comic I've been collecting for many years so was very excited to add it! Plus the re-release of it! So excited to read. If I had kids this is where I would be choosing for them to get their books. Plenty of CD's, DVDs and Rock and Roll vinyls I purchased upstairs, the guy behind the counter was so nice and talking to other locals with kids digging through the 10/$1 pokemon card bins. Was so friendly with me and informative. Was happy with what I paid. Went downstairs and browsed through the toys, I wasn't to afford a toy I wanted this time around but hoping when I come back I can! I also had a feeling I would find this figurine I missed out many years ago and beat myself up for constantly. Didn't find it this time around but when I go back if it's not so busy I will ask if they've seen. Downside is I had to drive around looking for some street parking since they don't have a lot. It was a busy Saturday, but finally found one. Also the aisles are a little tight, there were some times I felt trapped or couldn't get by people. But they're doing the best they can with the layout!

I walked into DJ's around 12:30 on a Tuesday to sell some cards. About an hour later, I walked out very happy with the way I was treated. The store was pretty crowded with a constant stream of shoppers. I dealt with Richard, and he reminded me of a high energy mad scientist -bouncing from customer to customer, then to the phone, then consulting with his colleagues, then peering at his laptop, then consulting some pricing magazines, then holding my cards up to a light to check for hidden pinholes or subterranean cracks and wrinkles. When he was ready to make me an offer on a Kobe Bryant, and baseball cards from the 1950s and 1970s, he made me a terrific offer which I accepted. I learned that Richard is a bit of a humanitarian and community service guy, as he donates hundreds of bags of cards to local children for things like graduation and report card excellence. I could not have been happier with my trip to DJs.
