Even though I moved from the Waltham area, I've kept my comic book subscription at the Outer Limits because the owner is the best! It's always been super-easy to update my subscription and I love discovering all the pop culture gems when I visit: used records, CDs, DVDs, Disneyana, games, toys, and of course comic books! All at reasonable prices. I love the bins of action figures; you never know who you'll find! Free handicapped parking can be found in the metered lot behind the shop on Chestnut Street. There are also several handicapped spots on Moody Street. Shop is handicapped accessible, though it is a pinch cramped in the back. I've been able to maneuver with a rollator and cane. If you need help navigating or reaching anything, the owner is happy to help. read more

I think I could spend hours in the Outer Limits comic book store looking at all the unique antique items they have available. As a Disney nerd I was very excited to scan their vast amount of Disney collectibles. Statues, pins, books, comics, stuffed animals, die cast cars, you name it they have it. As soon as you walk in you can smell the paper, books and comics from wall to wall. The gentleman that works there was extremely nice and helpful with trying to find certain comics my oldest was looking for. It definitely let me walk down memory lane with some of the old comics they have available. The pricing is reasonable too, if I didn't budge well I'd leave that store with empty pockets but with a treasure trove of goodies. read more

This is a great comic shop. Steve, the owner, is very knowledgeable and he keeps a great selection of titles (new and old). There are graphic novels, toys, old magazines and figurines. I use the subscription service, which is fantastic. Making changes is very easy and Steve doesn't mind that I only come in to pick up the comics once every few months! read more

Growing up this store popped upon Moody St, decades later still love this place. New/ old merch, neatly organized, priced reasonably, with a very chill, proprietor that has a fanbase of his own. Wacky Packages, Kaiju Toys, Out-of-Print Publications, & tons of chronologically assembled Comics/ Hard Editions/ bounded specific points of interest are enjoyed here. This is a good comic shop in my humble opinion. I am a HORRIBLE collector, but I made the attempt when Samurai Jack was launched by IDW. That being said I ALWAYS missed release date, so the nice guy told me to set up a subscription and he'll pull them aside for me. Now keep in mind this was a monthly, not major title release, and I would come by once every 3 months to pick them up, so not a big thing for the store, but they always treated me like a regular and valued customer. Tons of cool toys and collectibles. It's small crowded and jam packed full of stuff. Take a second look you'll never know what goodies you'll find. :) read more

Excellent shop with a lot to offer. Tons of back issues, tpbs, and collectibles. Basically everything you'd expect is there in plenty. If you have a collecting niche like Star Wars or Disney, there's something for you as there's a lot of figures and vintage stuff. I initially took a star off because things can sometimes be hard to find, but then I realized I always find what I'm looking for when I ask. Steve knows the lay of the land. Worth noting that there's always something new and interesting when I go there, so no day is too soon to check back even if you don't have a subscription to anything. read more

I haven't been in the Outer Limits in probably 5 years until the other day, and aside from being moved a block down the street, it's the same great shop it always was. They have a huge selection of comic books, all kinds of memorabilia from days gone by, movie posters, books, trading cards, vintage toys, and all kinds of unusual & rare stuff. I saw a Kramer vs. Kramer movie poster, ok? Why anyone would want that is beyond me, but hey... they've got it. I wish they would expand their inventory to include more on the music front like used vinyl, cds, concert posters, & things of that nature. I would be a more frequent visitor if they did, and I think it would open up their customer base quite a bit. Regardless, if you're on Moody Street, be sure to stop by. read more

These guys make owning a comic shop look easy. :) Disclaimer: I just opened Hub Comics in Union Square, Somerville. This shop is huge, and has great stuff galore! The closer you get to Boston, generally the less you're likely to see back issues, but these guys have a ton. They also have old newspapers and magazines for important events and personalities, posters (movies, comics, et cetera) and toys. The shop is very well organized. They have a great kids' section, and their display of books on the walls is excellent -- leaving enough room for you to actually find the titles and issues you're looking for. They sell bagged sets of comics -- runs, mini series, et cetera, at reasonable prices on one wall, as well. The only downside for me is their location. I discovered them when I was bringing my son to the Gymboree down the street on Saturdays. But since Gymboree closed, I've only been back once. I drive there, but there's a Commuter Rail stop nearby and lots of buses that pass the shop on Moody. The owner gave me good advice and encouraged me on opening my shop, so I should probably go back, thank him and give him an update. He's a great guy, and I recommend this shop whole-heartedly! read more

This is a great comic book store! In the 80s and early 90s I used to visit this store for hours at a time, reading trade paperbacks, combing through back issues, finding just the right set of comics to get from the $.25 bin. The owner is great. He's very helpful to customers who ask questions. I also remember one time I didn't have enough cash and I was about to take out one of my purchases (I think I was shy a dollar or two), and he just told me not to worry about it. I was a regular customer, and I think he appreciated that I would probably be spending a lot more money (and I did). I've visited the store a few times within the last fifteen years (my comic buying has slowed over the decades), and the $.25 bin has become the $.50 bin (hey, inflation happens!), but the store still retains a great selection of back and new issues, and it still has the same owner and the same wonderful, laidback atmosphere. If you're in the Boston area, this is definitely the comic book store to visit. read more

This is my comic shop of choice. The owner is incredibly helpful and friendly about custom orders (although they have a really great selection of stuff in the store to begin with, even micro-indie books). I've never had anything but great experiences here. I think the main thing I like about this place is that it's mostly comics. They have a few games, some action figures and memorabilia and posters, but by and large, this place sells comics. Which is damn cool. read more

This is the very best comic shop in the greater Boston area. It hurts me to say this as there are a lot of good and great shops in the area. But just try and find another place in the area with both the deep, deep selection of back issues as well as current stuff, or trades or OGN's or whatever. And that's not even getting into the vast amount of other pop stuff they have in there. My first time going to a real comic store - aka. not Newbury Comics and it was AWESOME. The new releases are up in the shelves along the walls and the bins and bins of older issues are waiting to be looked through an discovered by its next rightful owner. Everything from old Startrek novels to graphic novel releases of GOT, figurines of every comic character possible from cyclops to Godzilla. It's like walking into a mini comicon - a time transcending comic heaven. The owner is really knowledgable and definitely knows his stuff around comics. This is, by lightyears, the greatest store known to mankind I've shopped there since waaaaaays back in middle school (when the store was almost next door to the school) and oooh man.. so many good comics!! And then all the manga and good anime found their way in (and still do).. The owner is awesome by the way. Helps find things, put things aside..... An excellent comics and collectibles shop. In recent years, it seems like they've scaled back the toys/collectibles some to focus more on comics, graphic novels and books - and that's OK, there's still a lot to choose from. Steve has the best variety of any small shop in the area; I almost always leave with a few out of print comics and paperback novels, and a TPB collection that I can't seem to find anywhere else. Parking is... a pain. It's Moody Street so you're either hunting for a meter, or paying at a lot and walking. read more

An insane array of back issues (from golden age to underground comix to present day), toys, models, graphic novels, manga etc. Constant new stock coming in. Great window displays with current Iron Man or Transformers and old-fashioned Superman! Look at the new corner store location! Good for hobbies and gift ideas! Talk to the informative and friendly owner, Steven. Ask him about a specific issue of your favorite title and he knows it! This place is about 5 miles from me and they have a great display of comic book culture throughout the store. Check it out just to admire some of the displays the owner has created. There are great shelves full of anthologies of classic Spider-man, X-men, Superman, or Batman, others. If you want to enjoy the history of these cultural icons, just look at the car Batman drives that would later be known as a batmobile. Its a classic 1939 early 1940s large bulging automobile. It looks like Batman stole Bruce Wayne's Bentley. Explore the store from corner to corner and you'll be impressed. read more

If you ever want to get into comic books this place has everything you may want. The store carries every subject including hard to find early additions. They also have comic character models, trading cards etc. the staff are friendly and helpful. Parking can be challenging but there is a meter lot behind the store. I have been coming to Outer limits...well forever. The owner Steve always has a smile on his face and is generally interested in helping you. He does not wield a superiority complex about his comic knowledge, and I believe he only uses this ability for good. If your looking for a new, old, golden age comic or collectible he probably has it. He also keeps a good size stock of children oriented comics/toys and they aren't kept beside the new walking dead. My son and I can shop and find exactly what we are looking for. The atmosphere is well lit and friendly. Also remarkably clean which you wouldn't think to mention or look for, but appreciate when you have a child who is walking on their knees from one rack to the next. read more

The Outer Limits is a place I've visited since I was in high school. It is an absolute joy to find comic book back issues. I can't describe the feeling of how amazing their selection is for older comics. Sometimes, I've had an issue finding issues a few weeks old, but if you're looking for something brand new or something really, really old -- it is much easier. The owner seems fairly quiet and nondescript but he is polite and I think he warms up to frequent visitors. The toy selection is hit or miss but there are a huge amount of older collectibles to peruse and I always enjoy visiting. read more

I not a huge fan of the Outer Limits. The store is crammed full (not as much as it used to be-they moved) but organized better than it used to be. They seem to run out of new comics fast...Can't imagine why that would be. They have a limited selection of statues and they're back issues are not taken care of. They just throw them in a bag and stuff'um into the bins. The clerk seems more occupied withthe computer than his store. Good place to get cheap variants! read more

Steve is my homeboy! The guy's always got some good stories to tell and his store also offers a subscriber program. If you're a regular, just pick the monthly titles you want to receive, and he'll pull those books and set them aside for you. As a bonus, you get a 10% discount off the cover price. If you want a trade or miscellaneous item that isn't available at the store, Steve will order it for you from his distributors, within reason. This shop should serve as a model for other comic book stores. It definitely makes buying easier. read more

Oh the memories. This was the place where I had my introduction to manga. The Outer Limits was an oasis during the mid 80s and early 90s when it came to asian pop culture. There just was'nt any other place like it in the Boston area (we are talking 1987 - 1992 Boston). Whenever I needed a Godzilla or Ultraman fix The Outer Limits was the place to go. It is really something when a comic book store caters to cult pop favorites with such care and detail in the way The Outer Limits does. I bring my kids here as often as possible. It's a wonderful geek paradise. Comic selection is epic. Toys and collectables to boot. It has the smell of old paper and this place is packed from floor to ceiling. You could spend all day in here and not see half of what they have to offer. WE HAVE TO KEEP PLACES LIKE THIS ALIVE.
