Do not take your racquetball racquet to be repaired At New Tech Tennis! I had my racquet re-strung and asked for a new rubber grip. When I picked up my racquet the grip was not replaced. I was told that I didn't need a new one, which was weird because I specifically told them to replace it. After looking at the grip, it was obvious New Tech Tennis had attempted to remove it because it was distorted & the vinyl tether line was cut with scissors on both sides almost all the way through! The tether line was also rezipped with a new zip tie, which they denied. They swore they didn't touch the grip and once again stated I didn't need a new one. I actually showed them where the grip was almost worn through, and their comment was a stupid Oh! The man waiting on me admitted New Tech Tennis doesn't know much about racquetball racquets, what a surprise! It's not that the grip & tether line were damaged, it was they LIED about it. Once again, think about doing any business with this business ever! I have never visited the retail store, but I have done business with NTT through Mark Gonzalez for many years now. I am a United States Racquet Stringers Association Master Racket Technician (FWIW), so have alot of purchasing options and very high standards. I have never been disappointed with NTT or their products. Over the years I have bought string, stringing tools, and most recently, the Alpha Accuswing 2. The process of ordering is always a breeze (I just pick up the phone), and the products are all as described. By the way, the Alpha Accuswing 2 was excellent out of the box. It has really helped my customizing business, and was much less expensive than buying an all-in-one machine like the Prince PTC or Babolat RDC. At first I was skeptical as it looked like the door was for a combination tennis and kite shop, which it is but the tennis side is totally legit - I don't know about the kite side. Mark helped me pick out a new grip and the 'typical' colorful Head overgrips I have been using for years (but never had to buy since coaches always just handed them to me.) I picked out some neon green ones, 3 for $3.50 (they're $4.99 at Academy.) They have a great selection of grips, and strings and a small (~15-20) but good selection of racquets. I chatted with him for a few minutes about the tennis pros in the area and he was very well versed in the tennis scene, including the Houston area too. I'm surprised I'm the first person to review this place. This is a great little tennis shop. They have racquets, grips, shock absorbers, and anything you might need to play. I took my racquet here to get re-strung and it was ready within 24 hours, though I'm sure they could have it done more quickly if you were in a bind -- and the restringing plus two grips cost me just $20. The guy who helped me with my racquet was super friendly. Great customer service, great products, and great prices; what more could you ask for? By the way, it's pretty easy to miss this place. I bought my Alpha Stringing Machine years ago from New Tech. It recently needed to be repaired (after years of use), so I drove my machine from Dallas down to Austin. Mark, the New Tech machine technician fixed it on the spot, as well tuned it up! Greg had everything all set up to go when I arrived at the shop. Instead of having to ship my machine back to Dallas or drive back to Austin, these wonderful folks made it easy for me. This kind of service is way beyond what anyone would expect any more. Excellent place! We'll definitely return here. My grandson (12 years old) has started playing tennis, and I wanted to get him a quality racket. We went to New Tech, and the owner almost sent me somewhere else! He explained that most of his rackets are more toward the "pro-line" end of things, and I might be better off going somewhere a bit less expensive for a starter racket. He offered to write down for me all the specs that we should be looking for. After a little more conversation, he went in the back and came back with a demo Wilson Pro Staff 100L that he sold us for only $69. I had to return an expensive stringing machine due to a faulty part. The pre and post sale service was excellent and NTT agreed to cover the shipping cost, however the day after it was returned I received a call from my credit card company to confirm if I had just made a large payment(approx $500) to an on-line poker site. I don't play poker and didn't make the purchase, and although the credit card compant couldn't confirm the source I was very suspicious due to the timing of the fraudulent charge and the return of my New Tech purchase.The charge was reversed but it has always left me wondering....... read more
