Ketchup. I've never seen such an old and stained set of ketchup bottles. But that's just the surface. I can only imagine that a place that's been topping off their ketchup bottles for how many years(?) is likely to take the same shortcuts in the back of the house. Always like stopping here when in the area. The staff has been great, servers check on you often and the cook does a fantastic job. So far I haven't ordered anything I didn't like. The desserts are delicious, though after filling up on the main I have to take the dessert to go. Yes the building is old and a bit ran down but it still serves its main purpose well. I found this place today after parking my semi truck next door. Figured I'd give it a try for lunch. As soon as I opened the door that smell of good hamburgers hit me in the face. I instantly knew what I was gonna get. I got the bacon cheddar burger and it was HUGE! Got the beer battered fries with it. The burger was just like I expected. It was great. The fries were hot and crispy and golden and just awesome! The service here was nothing short of awesome. Very nice conversation with the servers and they actually spent a little time talking to me. I can't believe I've been driving since '96 and never stopped in this place until couple days ago. The main reason was because I would usually head to Frystown where there was an independent truck stop with a nice restaurant until those Flying J Jerks took over and destroyed the place. This is one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" type of places. The lot is an unpaved disorganized mess. The building looks like a s---hole. And while the inside wasn't too much different the waitress was much friendlier than was expected for an area this close to Jersey. And the food was pretty good too. Next door was the fuel and convenience store building. Which much to my surprise had a Drivers lounge/TV room upstairs. Sure wasn't expecting that. So for now on when stuck in the area I'll probably just shutdown here instead of that FJ or the even crappier TA in Jersey. read more

Trying to find a new spot to eat with the family. We stumbled upon New Smithville Diner. Please don't judge this place by appearance. You will be surprised by what you find inside. BTW we love places like this. The restaurant was Covid compliant. Social distancing was enforced. Wait staff was wearing masks. Tables were sanitized after use. We started our meal with jalapeño poppers. They were not too spicy and had a nice crisp to them. If my daughter ate them then they are not spicy. Drink of choice was coffee. Coffee was filled on a regular basis. Which is a good thing. The coffee had a good fresh taste. I had that Louisiana Panini. I'm sorry to say that it lacked flavor and needed salt and pepper for enhancement. The beer battered fries we're actually cooked just right. Finished up the meal with a piece of carrot cake. Very filling and had to take it home with me to finish. Like I said please don't judge a book by its cover and stop in and give this place a chance. We will be definitely going back. read more

As local seasonal campers, this has become our favorite go-to for breakfast and lunch. It's not much to look at on the outside, but don't let that fool you. She came back and decided to take my order but when I told her I wanted number 3 and 9, she claimed she didn't know what that is, rolled her eyes and grabbed a menu. She then asked if I wanted toast and I said yes, wheat bread. She then complained that I said bread instead of toast (common sense should tell her it's toasted wheat bread but I digress). I then asked if I could have corned beef hash instead of home fries, she said they don't have any beef hash (never mind that the number 9 on the menu includes comes with beef hash). Great small diner! My friends and I just stopped in passing by. We ordered a triple decker roast beef club, chicken Parmesan, and two burgers. Food was fresh and delicious! The New Smithville Diner, has an amazing menu to choose from. The food is outstanding. Today I ordered the Greek Salad, and I have to say that it was the best Greek Salad that I've had in forever.
