Bottomless coffee was 1.95, coming out in a mug which is a must for breakfast, topped off often. Many other items for all tastes. I am writing to formally report a serious issue from my recent visit to Dutch Kitchen Restaurant. I ordered fries with gravy, but after receiving my food I noticed some of the fries already had ketchup on them, which I did not request. This strongly suggests I may have been served food intended for another customer. This raises serious concerns about food handling practices, order accuracy, and potential cross-contamination. Receiving food that appears to have been previously served to someone else is unacceptable and a possible health and safety issue. I hope Because I'm a minority this was not done on purpose, but it's hard to rule out! I am requesting a formal explanation of what occurred and what steps will be taken to prevent this from happening again! Shameful read more

We were on the way home to Va from upstate NY where we had been smallmouth bass fishing for a week. Needing gas and starving we got off at Frackvill. I've ate a lot of crab cakes in my 71 years. The ones I ate here were probably the best I've ever had. I will stop again on my August trip when I come back. If you are driving I81 or going to be in Schuylkill County, this is worth a stop. Think "what a Cracker Barrel should be" - in other words, great food. Huge menu. Great service. Stopped here for lunch. Definitely dont recommend. 1st off waitress did not listen when we were ordering didnt recieve what was ordered. Someone needs to learn how to make split pea soup. Sandwiches we ordered to 45 after ordering to recieve. Two other tables that came in after us got served ate and left. While we waited for 1/2 sandwiches, with a cup of soup that was brought out well after sandwich. Waitress didnt have a clue! Years ago, I saw that The Dutch Kitchen was mentioned in Jane and Michael Stern's "Road Food" book. That enticed us to try it as we were in the vicinity at the time. I remembered eating a dumpling entree and enjoying it. My husband and our daughter also ordered some comfort food. Since we had room for dessert, we all got apple pie, which was the star of the meal. Thus, we were glad to have a chance to eat there yet again during our recent trip. All I can say is it isn't the same anymore. It was as if they were resting on their laurels while having a sign on the door mentioning them making it into "Road Food". We had an early dinner and the place was fairly busy. All the other people there were our ages or older. Plus it was clear that they were locals who were regulars there. The service was fine, no complaints there. Looking for some comfort food, I ordered turkey croquettes with mashed potatoes and gravy along with a side salad. My husband ordered meat loaf with mashed potatoes and gravy plus a side of beets. While the food was edible, it was a let down. My husband said his meat loaf was "okay" and he was disappointed that the beets were served cold (he prefers to have them warm). I found the turkey croquettes to be overcooked. The bottoms of the croquettes were on the burned side and tough. The filling barely had any turkey in it. Thus, I was glad to see the gravy portion was generous as it helped with the dryness of the croquettes. The side salad with creamy Italian salad was fine. I wish we had room for some pie but we were full plus eager to get to our destination before dark. Perhaps a piece of pie would have redeemed the meal. First thing we noticed was the ample parking and outdoor patio. We were greeted like family and given the choice between the dining room or the diner side, and we chose the diner. Our hostess and waitress both greeted us quickly, and what we noticed most was how friendly there were. The menu has some very homey choices, not a place if you are looking for trendy health food options. We went with the clam chowder, salads, meatloaf, pot pie and beets. All arrived promptly and was yummy! The restaurant side has a little "store" which sold jelly's and relishes, recipe books and shirts. The bathrooms were clean. Not too far off I81, this was a convenient and nice place to have dinner. We had been looking for the Cracker Barrel but we're on the wrong side of the Highway and we are thankful for our mistake-turned-good fortune. read more

It's a good dinner in a scenic location. When I am going over this truck route pass, I like to stop here for a hefty meal. it's a real diner with lots of people passing through and a bunch of aged locals having a meal. Young folks stop to grab a burger with friends. I like the food and think ist good diner food. They have a few healthy options. Staff is hit or miss sometimes, but mostly friendly. I seem to catch'em at the end of the shift, so they are a little reticent. read more

Celebrating their 50th year, this authentic diner is wonderful! The vibe brings us back to the 50s/60s. The waitstaff are friendly, helpful and kind. I ordered a cheese steak that had a nice spin on it. A little tomato sauce mixed in with the steak and onions. It was a good selection. My wife had their soup that tasted homemade. I asked for a glass of unsweetened iced tea. It came with a generous slice of lemon. I really liked being here and will certainly my next trip with this stop included. read more

Doesnt look like much when you pull up, but OH BOY!! When you get inside, classic diner. Wait staff very friendly and accomodating and quick with service. Extensive diner style menu with many classic dishes including one of my favorites, liver and onion (to each their own!!). the day I visited I chose the Roast Turkey dinner and what a treat! juicy turkey served over great stuffing, lovely gravy and cranberry sauce on plate, had applesauce as my side. Can't say enough good things about the meal or service. Quick on/off of highway, definitely will stop again when in the area! read more

I've been stopping there a few times a year on my way from NY to VA for about 25 years...always good but the last few times the service has been extraordinarily slow...unfortunately I had to walk out last time (Tuesday 12/26) . We stopped on our way off I-81. We had been there once before. We were hoping to eat and move on quickly, but no chance! It took an hour getting a salad and a sandwich. It looked not too busy, about 1/2 the restaurant was open. I was never asked fir a coffee refill, and I had to ask another waitress across the room to ask for some. And, the whole time we were there we saw only one table of 2 who came in with masks on. None of the staff were masked, other than one waitress who wore one below her chin. This place is pretty bad. I had the "famous" meatloaf which was barely average and way overcooked. French fries were as if they were left out overnight and tasted like little rubber pellets. Don't even get me started on the pepper cabbage. It was so bad that I bribed my kids with money to try it and they both nearly threw up. Rarely leave negative reviews, but it is deserved here. Like to support local restaurants, the Mom and Pop establishments. Unfortunately, we would have been better off not choosing Dutch Kitchen. This was meant to be a quick stop on our journey home, but became an hour and a half ordeal, with the wait for our food being almost an hour of that time. When arrived we were seated quickly and received our drinks promptly. Good start, but downhill from there. Took almost 10 minutes before a waitstaff approached to take our order. For the most part our meal options were quick fix items. Spaghetti, sandwich, and a grilled liver and onions. We then proceeded to wait 55 minutes for our food. During this wait we overheard a waitstaff explaining to another table that it would be a long wait for food. We were never given that warning. Once we did receive our food it was decent with the exception of the grilled liver and onions that was overcooked to the point you could barely cut into it. At this point we asked to speak with a manager. That conversation was frustrating. She acknowledged that the liver was overcooked and would remove it from the bill. She became very defensive when we mentioned that it took almost an hour to receive our food. Her explanation is "that is the way it is." What they have done is created so much seating that their small kitchen is not able to keep up with capacity (this is explanation per our server). Our kids noticed that out of a large room only 2 tables were eating (should have been our first warning). We also found the waitstaff to be friendly, but very inattentive. Several times we had to flag someone down simply for refills, update on our food or just to get the check. We really did have high hopes for this experience, but are not able to recommend this restaurant. Advise you to eat elsewhere. read more

So our group was on our way to Kaliahi and the lady who did wait one us was ok to me not the greatest. Didn't follow directions when I said whipped cream (not butter) for the chocolate chip pancakes she wasn't there for most of the time after she dropped off the pancakes. The pancakes are good and I got the big sausage which was not great. I should put a 2 for the description but the diner was cool and I wish we were in there not just the part that I had seen with other places even though I didn't know if it was a diner or a country place. Dutch Kitchen or the Dutchie as the locals refer to it has been a unchanged landmark for decades. It's kind of neat how some things don't change to the mini cereal boxes in the glass canister located in the diner section to the treats at the cashier station. It feels like coming home again and almost like dining in your mother's or baba's kitchen. Almost. I think a few things that would really make the Dutchie stand out is to offer handmade pierogies instead of Mrs T's. I know the latter is faster, but I'd wait just to sink my teeth into a good homemade pieorgy. The bleenies are fair. Between nearby Cracker Barrel and Dutch Kitchen, you really can't lose though the Dutchie now has mimosas or bloody Mary's during brunch! More vegetarian and vegan options please. Something other than a salad or a veggie burger. I'd like to see a plant based take on a Dutch meal... maybe a pot pie or a meatloaf? Late lunch on a road trip. Nice old classic diner with added dining room. Excellent service! Delicious bread served with butter while we waited. Pork steak perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, slaw tangy and crisp. Tuna sandwich was delicious, plenty of filling on delicious whole wheat bread. We desperately wanted a nice, cool, comfortable place to sit down and eat after a long, damp and sweaty fun weekend at Knoebel's. Not Italian. Not pizza. Not Sheetz or fast food. Winding through the small towns between Knoebel's and home we spotted the Dutch Kitchen. Checked you marvelous Yelp reviewers and decided this was our place to stop. The Dutch Kitchen delivered the experience we sought on every point. From the large wide parking lot where we could park our full size pickup with extended platform to the comfortable seating and the generous variety of menu offerings, this place was a delight. it's really a place with a dual identity. In one section you have a classic 1940s-1950s dining car complete with chrome, glassed in cases of cakes, a long counter and cozy booths. In the other section you have a country dining room with a buffet, two, four, and six tops with padded seats, lots of windows and shelves offering you a variety of items - shirts, jellies/jams, pancake mix, totes - for sale. We sat in the dining room and stretched out. We had basically 3 servers who tag-teamed and they were all great. Waffle with real maple syrup was delicious. French toast did not disappoint, nor did the western omelette. The real star of the show was the handmade real ice cream shakes. NMT got the nutella shake and mmmmmm it was delicious. Dutch Kitchen, you were a welcome place to rest weary, damp bodies after a long camping weekend. We'll definitely make your restaurant a go-to stop on our annual trips. read more

We've eaten here several times, when going by on I 81. Very easy access off the interstate. Big parking lot was great for my pickup hauling a trailer. Always clean and neat and welcoming when we walked in. Love the old style of this diner. The food was good, the wait staff was very pleasant, and the prices were reasonable. And, they have some interesting gift items for sale (which my wife promptly purchased ) My brother and sister in law were with us (their first time in) and the said they will be back, as will we. read more
