    Cold beers in the cooler

Drove up after dark and their neon Heeter's sign made it easy to find. The right side of the building has an order window for take-out and a picnic table. An entrance to the diner area is on the left side of the building. The diner runs front to back. There is a small counter seating area by the door with most of the room being booths. Four seater booths on the left and two seaters on the right and at the back. A TV in the back corner was showing fox news on a very loud volume. The waitress was very friendly. They offer canned beers and fruity malt beverages that are made into slushies along with sodas. The menu offers a variety of options and being on the road for several days we came for their dinner salad offerings. The salads are quite large and the greens fresh. Plenty of protein on there. The chicken ceaser came lightly dressed with warm chunks of chicken breast over the top. The warm chicken did wilt the greens a bit. Perhaps placing the warm chicken around the edges of the salad instead of on top would prevent that? Chunk light tuna is used in their tuna salad and I opted for no additional dressing on my salad greens as the tuna salad is enough dressing for my taste. Their tuna salad has a mild taste; nothing surprising in there (that's a good thing). Inside was quite warm on a cold December evening. Service and food were good. There is a private parking lot. Located on a busy road it may take a moment to exit or enter.

Extremely delicious food at this old style diner. Even though a touch under staffed, a group of six was still accommodated extremely fast and well. Big props for still making our large group feel welcome and taken care of while juggling so many other tables - the staff were fantastic here. The food was particularly delicious diner style food and I always love a place where you can add chili and cheese to just about anything. I went with the fried fish sandwich and some chili cheese fries and boy oh was were they delicious. Portion size was huge and the fry on the fish was just perfect. All the food was truly fantastic here and our server was so nice that we even gave her a card to our band and she came and saw us with her husband last time we in the area. Great spot!

Besides the staple menu, there was a rotating menu featuring a soup, mussel dish, flatbread, burger, and pasta. The food took some time to come out, and everything was rather bland across the board. The interior was decorated nicely for the holidays though. *Hummus Platter: a huge shareable for $10. The crispy naan resembled the Costco version but fried. The naan itself worked well as a base for the hummus, although the hummus was neither smooth nor flavorful. There was no fragrance from the chickpeas, and it tasted rather unseasoned. The selection of peppers, carrots, and cucumbers was decent. *Garlic Butter Mussels: their monthly mussel dish. The mussels were cooked well and coated in a one dimensional sauce. The sweet wine was cooked down with lots of garlic, while the butter was subtle. I wished there had been a bit more toasted baguette to balance the one pound of seafood. Note there is a 3% credit card surcharge. I could not find this listed on their menu and but I saw the charge on my receipt. I enjoyed the few beers I had, and the food was acceptable for a bar. With some improvement to the flavors, this could be a worthwhile visit for a bite and a drink.

Total came to approximately $16 (not including tip). What's hot - Menu. Very good variety. There's sandwiches, pastas, salads, gyros, omelets, even scrapple. I really like they serve breakfast all day. There appears to be something for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. - Quality. I appreciate that the food was not salty. You can tell they use frozen corn and heated it up, but the broccoli appeared and tasted fresh. - Service. I ordered takeaway and was told it would be ready for pick up when I arrived. When I asked how long that would take, the staffer responded about 15 minutes. That was the amount of time it took for me to get there. Sure enough, my order was already packaged and ready for pick up. They appear to cater to the traveling community and those who need their orders in a short amount of time. - Portions. Good value for money. Really good size portions. Definitely enough to get me full and to share with my husband. - Location. Easy to find and there's a decent size parking lot, which is helpful for larger vehicles, which I saw plenty of when I arrived. There's a decent size seating area, as well, with tables big enough to sit for parties larger than 4. What's not - Quality. It's not the most flavorful and delicious, but it's decent and reliable. - Location. Somewhat out of the way, because it's on the outskirts of Carlisle, but it's convenient for passersby. Final answer Willing to come back, but maybe not a first choice.

So a "real time" review as I am sitting at the bar awaiting a replacement order…read more It is hard to describe the burger I was served. It was way over cooked but that was not a full description. In addition to being charred beyond well done it was also very dense.... Definitely not a coarse grind. The combination was a patty that was inedible. Ate less than 1/4. Why not a worse rating? The female barkeep was so attentive and on top of it that it was still a decent meal. Happily replaced it with a 1/2 dozen wings which were very good.

This one takes the cake & costs the Hilltop any repeat business from us. The pictures are SUPPOSED to be of the 8oz Haddock Dinner for $18.99 & the French onion soup for $4.99. The fork in the picture is for reference only as the food was completely inedible. Sadly, we ordered it all to-go & didn't realize it was all terrible until home (over 1/2 hr away). The haddock dinner was burnt, not 8oz OR haddock & it was missing the lemon butter/bread crumb topping as described on the menu but had an abundance of paprika. I believe they switched the haddock dinner order with another paprika haddock dish on the menu - but conveniently forgot to lower the price. The French onion soup was a cup of broth. No croutons or Swiss cheese in it or on the side, as described on the menu. Sadly, this was take-out & we never looked until we got home (over 1/2 hour away). All over-priced as all inedible. Totally feel cheated. Email with pictures sent to management - received absolutely no response.
