Stopped by here while on our way home from Disneyland! We were all starving and craving pho. I found this place on Yelp, however had our Goldendoodle with us so wasn't sure if we would be able to dine in. We were willing to eat in the car but that can be a little challenging when eating pho. I asked the host if it would be possible to bring our dog in. He was accommodating and allowed us to sit in a corner, which worked well! Our dog just started obedience training, so she's getting the hang of being out in public. She did better than expected. The servers were friendly and the food was just what we needed! There was a fly embedded in my shrimp spring roll. It was deep inside in between the lettuce and was chopped in half. When we told the employee, he said "why didn't you tell us sooner. The rest of your food was already made." Bad customer service. Made us feel like it was our fault when it wasn't. Also the women's restroom smelled really bad. read more

I was so excited to taste New Saigon! My friend and i love the food around this area. Everything is so authentic and affordable. Sadly this place was so disappointing! One aspect of this restaurant that was so intriguing is they have a buy 3 entrees get one free special. We ordered 3 entrees and 2 appetizers so our appetizers fo comped. How I usually do my reviews go by one star for cleanliness, one star for service, and 3 stars for THE FOOD. The food here was mediocre at best. I love Asian food and have grown up eating Vietnamese food at restaurants and family friends' home. All the food was lacking of flavor! The appetizers were very plain and bland. There was definitely no seasoning in any of the dumplings or shrimp eggrolls. The combination egg noodle soup was also incredibly bland. The meat was a poor texture and the fish was so watery. The soup in general could have used some extra salt or something! The lemongrass beef with vermicelli noodles was off to a great start and was the strongest dish we ordered but still was lacking flavor! We ordered it spicy and there was very little spice. Lastly the catfish dish we ordered. It was named Caramelized catfish, #55 I was most excited to order this because I saw many old reviews praising this dish and other catfish dishes. This sauce was the only extremely flavorful things we ordered but the fish was very poor quality. The meat was tough and fish was extremely slimy and fishy. There are other restaurants in the area that are delicious and I know a lot of people like this place but it will take a lot for me to give them another chance. read more

Loved this place. Great pho with great service. Stilling building, being renovated. Like only three-quarters is open for seating, let alone an outside area may be for seating or maybe they'll garden bean sprouts and basil like I've seen other shops. Dac biet is so good. Pho ga is alright, but not as good as Saigon's on Chester and Oak. The broth is weaker, but still food. Unsure if they're associated. Liked the tapioca, despite not liking tapioca. Odd. The pho is amazing! I wasn't even that hungry, but I slurped down the large house special pho. The rare steak was tender, the meatballs were flavorful, and the brisket was soft, too! I'll probably order without tendon or tripe due to my own preferences, but the broth was good enough for my s.o. to keep stealing some... I love rice noodles, and the large definitely had enough of everything to leave me full and happy. The egg rolls were crispy and hot - perfect with their dipping sauce and pickled radish and carrots. My s.o. loved their bun bo hue (with egg noodles subbed), too! We got some of their vietnamese coffee, and that was on point, too. Strong and sweet, just like their service. :) I would go back even without the thoughtful and well-timed service, but it doesn't hurt! read more

NO FLAVOR. the place looked okay kinda like a 2000s buffet, very spacious and comfortable sitting. The service was okay, took some time to get your drinks and we were the only people there too. I order the chef special, and an appetizer. I didn't really like the appetizer it was just kale and a shrimp inside. Once the food arrive it looked really good, once I tried it it had no seasoning no flavor at all. It felt like I had COVID because all I felt was the texture of the food but no flavor at all. I kept mixing the soup to see if the flavor will start marinating in but nope it tasted like warm water. Are the Pho Gods angry at us? Not to be deterred, we tried New Saigon. Yep, this'll do it! We walk in the door and get greeted every time. We are seated fast and service comes quickly. The soup is very good here. The place is clean, and smells really good. It is obvious that this is a family owned restaurant by the family occupying a table and taking turns loving on the babies. I love family owned businesses and how cool it is for kids to see how to run a business and how to work hard for success. Life lessons aside, this is a really nice little place with great food. The Pho place next door gets more business, but don't think it is because New Saigon is not as good. It is, and they offer much more than just soup. 4 Stars for service and food. 108 outside and 8 fans inside moving warm air but Vietnamese places in pick your city tend to be in bad neighborhoods and warm in summer, and don't sweat it if you order multiple courses they can either come all at once or out of order. Both had great flavors, developed broths and were a value in the portion area and were both really enjoyable. I flipped for a mango tea and a passion fruit tea. Both not overly sweetened (said I wanted a glass of sugar I'd knock up for my neighbor) and true to their fruits. Immediate after a sip "oh man" and we traded to taste each other's drink. Less expensive than some places but no fruit pieces in the cup. But no mind they were delish! I said the portions were a value and they were. So much so that I couldn't finish the broth of my Bun Bo hue. If you like the real BBH you'll like this one. Mix of rich meats and collagen with ample noodles and the add ins were just picked from someone's garden. I should've asked for the broth in a to go cup for later. I asked for mild to medium heat bc I have a throat thing lately and it was a solid medium spicy. The two servers were attentive but not a bother and offered a tapioca pudding on the house that was a nice balanced finish to the meal. It's Union Ave so bring the no eye contact no words to the poor zombies laying or stumbling around the center. My 15 yo grabbed my hand and we powered from the car and to the car and hit the 58 out of there. Not sure of their evening hours but wouldn't go without concealed carry. This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant! I'm not usually in the area but whenever I am, I always try to stop by! I generally get the combination hu tieu with rice noodle and soup. I love all the different types of fish and meat that come with it and the quail eggs are so good! The broth here (for all of their soup, including pho) is great and there's plenty of condiments to enhance your broth, including chil oil (my favorite) and pickled jalapeño. Try the spring rolls here because their peanut sauce is so good! I love to put some in my broth after I finish my spring roll. It's a family-owned business and you'll typically see the family hanging out and eating at one table. The owner is super friendly and acts as a waiter a lot of the time. At the end of your meal, she'll give you a complementary tapioca pudding for dessert. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area! read more

We sat down and ordered the following dishes (they have a special all day, every day = buy 3 entrees, get 1 free!): -Seafood Noodle Soup ($7.99 for large) - It was a 'soup/noodles' kind of day, so I ordered this entree w/ egg noodles. Seafood came with 4 pcs of shrimp, 2 pieces of white fish, 4 pieces of imitation crab meat, and 4 pieces of squid. Soup was flavorful, full of chopped green onion, and dried garlic. Egg noodles were chewy and stringy, and very good actually. Almost reminded me of Japanese ramen, but not entirely so. 4 star. -Combination Pho (large) - this is the usual pho that comes with all the ingredients and toppings and meats, etc. My husband loves pho, so he thought it was delicious, it was better this time around than he had remembered... 4 star - #13 Garlic filet mignon chunks over steamed rice (got this to-go) - my husband thought the flavoring is great; the filet is tender and nicely seasoned/cooked. he would give it 4 stars. He feels like this dish rekindled his "liking" for this restaurant, lol. In my opinion, I had a bite of the filet and thought it was just OK. nothing that special, haha. Portion size is small though. - #10 Fried rice w/ scrambled egg, Chinese sausage, BBQ pork, chopped carrots and peas (got this to-go). Typical fried rice dish; nothing too special. This place isn't as good as I remember. It's a huge restaurant so filling it up with customers is probably pretty hard. They have a deal for a noodle soup, soda, and spring roll for 6.99, which is pretty good. First off, the spring roll was big and filled with noodles, just how I like it! The pho was tolerable, but it was not very tasty. It had a strange aftertaste to it. I tried the rice dishes as well. It was way too salty with the fish sauce! I was high on sodium. I didn't like it. Had to stop after a while. The vermicelli is a good dish! It's covered with cucumbers, lettuce, sprouts, and meat on top. There may be too many vegetables for my taste, but it's very healthy. The first sauce needed some extra hot sauce, but it was very eatable. They offer free tapioca dessert sometimes. It's like sweet coconut milk with clear tapioca balls. Very good and sweet. Comes out warm. Even though this place is not that great, I can't really complain because it's one of the few restaurants here in Bakersfield. read more
