Overall a pretty solid American Chinese food location. I've ordered from New number one a few times and each has been consistent and satisfying. Although I'm not super thrilled with the use of styrofoam containers the amount you get in each is larger than most other places. I ordered a sesame chicken dinner special and was able to get 3 meals out of just the one order. The order also comes with a choice of an appetizer which is just a nice bonus. You can order over the phone however if you order using the online service you can get a 10% discount which is really nice as the food is already very reasonably priced at $8 per dinner special. The location is not currently allowing anyone inside so if you pick up you must call and they will deliver for curbside pickup. The owners and staff are very nice and have always been very accommodating even prior to covid. read more

Old fashion Chinese food taste is hard to come by in this era of authentic this and authentic that. But this takeout restaurant has great flavors that all age groups will appreciate. It is a hole in the wall restaurant with no seating but great takeout or delivery food. They have hot and spicy dishes, an extensive list of appetizers and soups, all the proteins you would want plus some old-time favorites like Chop Suey and Egg Foo Young. The portions are generous, and their delivery time was exact. In addition, when our dinner was delivered, it was hot, not just warm to the touch but actually hot-hot. Anyways, portions wise, 15/5 rating.., taste was 3/5, cuisine quality: 4/5 you get enough for literally 2-3 meals worth. Menus are those trifold paper menus with over 60 combinations of beer, chicken, shrimp, pork, with your typical mugu gai pan, mushu, sesame, etc sweet savory salty combos. Service is relatively fast- it's this tall random white guy who fries the spring rolls like a total bro and a Chinese family who seem to run this place. Parking lot is small but it's take out, so you're not aiming to sit here for long to eat- it's cold from outside air coming into the joint in winter, so you're probs gonna go home to eat anyways. So your 7.95$ include a choice of steam rice or pork fried rice. Choice of appetizer and then your main course. Pork fried rice- it's yellow rice with like maybe very very small bite of pork every 2-3 Bites- very dilute pork and very dilute frozen veggies. Tasted good with the necessary grease but just mostly rice 99% and pork garnish. Appetizer choice was interesting- I recommend the beef skewers that were actually quite generous and not dry and over cooked or too tough. Fried scallops- it was some flour scallop mixture with the flaky outside hash brown like outer edge- I'm not a fried foods person but if you were a fried junkie, you'd like this. Other options were chicken teriyaki, and etc Sesame chicken was pretty good- crispy and not soggy with the adequate sauce. The shrimp cashew dish wasn't as impressive too me- it was some watery saucy thing with lots of canned chestnuts and corn. Overall if you want cheap take out food, this is the place to go: 4/5. People ding this for not being authentic Chinese and it's not- it's its own subcategory called American Chinese take out. Simple as that. CAUTION: FRAUD ALERT!!! I've gone to this place for years even after I moved out of the area because I love it so much. Since the China virus they no longer take cash & so if you're not ordering online (I can't get what I want how I want it by ordering online) you have to give the person taking the order your credit card number, expiration date & CRV number. Yesterday I called to order & a female who spoke perfect English took my order & that's never happened before. It made ordering easier however 33 minutes after they closed Simone made a $50 purchase for an amazon gift card. This is the only business that I give all the information needed to make unauthorized purchases with my credit card. I've had to report the fraud, freeze my account, get a new account number & order a new card. I am positive the person I gave my credit card number, expiration date and CRV number did this. This is a bad way to do business & until I can swipe my card in person or pay with cash I will not be ordering from them again. Inconsistent as far as quality goes. Generally depending on who you get on the phone when you call for delivery you'll either not be able to understand what they're saying or you'll get an American guy working there who is very rude to you when he takes your order, as if your phone call specifically ruined his day. Food is alright at best, usually inconsistent in terms of quality. Delivery is very very very slow. I live on campus so it's difficult to find a good Chinese food place that delivers without a ridiculous minimum amount required. Order online to save the hassle of speaking to the employees. Can't recommend any specific dishes but you're safe with the usual stuff one would order from a Chinese restaurant. If you have other options in terms of Chinese delivery then I wouldn't recommend ordering from here. If this is the only place that delivers to you then order online and get simple food, that or get carryout from better places. Not a good lunch. I mean ordering online was easy, they delivered within their time frame (40-50), it came hot...but the food was nasty. I got Chicken with Cashews and Pork Dumplings. The "chicken" was 80% celery. I don't know about other people, but when I order a dish called Chicken with Cashews, if there is going to be an excess of anything I would expect it to be either chicken or cashews. If this dish had been called Vegetable Stir Fry with Chicken and Cashews, it would have been more accurate but certainly not more tasty. Pretty sure the sauce was made of nothing but soy sauce and cornstarch. The dumplings were so bland. The dough was the consistency of play-doh, and it was so thick I couldn't even taste the pork. The quality of the food is decent at this restaurant, but I've had two instances of sub-par service which has been enough for me to not order from this place again. The first incident was when I placed an order online two days in advance for lunch for my sister and myself. The plan for was to pick up the food and then drop her off for work with her lunch early enough so that she could eat it before starting her shift. When I arrived at the restaurant, they didn't have anything ready. They tried to tell me they had no record of my order. They didn't seem to care that I'd shown up looking for my order and there wasn't one. Then one of the chefs found my order still tacked to their bulletin board, which was RIGHT BEHIND THE COUNTER. No apologies whatsoever, even though it was their mistake. They didn't even place my order as a priority, and continued waiting on other customers and putting their orders ahead of mine. When they FINALLY had our food done, not only did my sister have no time to eat her lunch before work, but she ended up being LATE for work. Maybe that alone should've deterred me from ordering from them again, but a couple months later I placed another online order. This time I placed the order the exact same day as pickup to prevent the same mistake. Because of how far away the restaurant is from my house, I ALWAYS place "pickup" as my option instead of delivery. Well, twenty minutes before my order was set to be ready I get a phone call from a man from the restaurant trying to confirm my address. I told him my address, but reminded him that I was picking up the food. He said "okay" and hung up. Just five minutes later he called me again to confirm my address. This time I implicitly stated that I was supposed to be picking up my food from the restaurant and that I was going there shortly. Again, I got an "okay" before he hung. It became clear to me that they screwed up my order information and put it for "delivery" and not "pickup". I printed up the receipt to confirm my order and right on the receipt it said "pickup". It didn't occur to them to check why I wasn't being charged a delivery fee. But the delivery man from the restaurant showed up at my door regardless. I gave him exact change because that was all I had on me. But when he saw he didn't get a tip he got very upset with me. I managed to scramble together a couple dollars to give him, but he still acted very rude to me. The food isn't worth it. This restaurant is completely disorganized and they've been incredibly rude to me. There's better places to go in Rochester than here. read more

The food is good, but getting it to you in a timely manner is another story. I've had several issues lately when ordering for our office: 1) The website says "fast free delivery". NOT true, there is a $2 delivery charge. 2) When ordering online, it says $15 minimum if the order is OVER 3 miles away. NOT true, Our office is 1.2 miles away and it forces us to order over $15 for delivery (BEFORE) all the fees. We had to order an extra item to get it to confirm our order. 3) We ordered food for 11:45 am delivery. At 12:00 pm, I called and the co-owner argued with me over the phone that the order says 1:00 pm. I told her I was looking at the receipt and she said it didn't matter, it was for 1:00 pm, but I could ask for sooner delivery time. I requested that right away and was told that my order would still arrive a few minutes to 1:00 pm...MY ORDER FINALLY ARRIVED AT 12:45 pm. 4) I printed my receipt and wrote a nice note (honestly, I wanted to be rude, but that doesn't help) to the owner asking for some compensation (food credit for today or the future) and received NO response as of the end of our workday...very disappointing. I rarely leave reviews and felt compelled to write one today because of the consistency in the behavior with them. Was not feeling like cooking last night and I remembered Grub Hub was offering $5 off $10 orders! So this was the only place that delivered for free to where I was so I gave them a try out. I got some General Taos, was good, pretty standard. Fried Shrimp were crispy but a little too much breading and there were cumbs everywhere. Also, no tarter sauce! Your killing me smalls! I also got some fries which came in this tin foil like pouch, that kept them hot but you cant keep hot fries in an air tight container they get soggy from condensation =(. You never take a risk on anything less than 3/5 but again you have no choice so you bight the bullet and order your normal american Chinese staples. 45 mins later your food arrives. It comes by way of the restaurants delivery car with a lit up roof sign (a rarity when ordering from grubhub) and strangely the driver is a smiling bearded round white guy who looks like he listens to Grateful Dead - not what you were expecting, but not a bad look for New Number One. You get to your couch, start up your pre-selected late night dinner Netflix, it's 11:00pm and this is the moment of truth.....AND THE FOOD IS BOMMMMMB. Omg what? Perfectly crispy and sauced. Generously portioned.Nothing missing. Not a hint of any of the issues from the other reviews on here.
