We decided to give this place another try since my fiancé was in the mood for it. This time, I ordered the stew beef but forgot to add a side of plantains. It's okay though. I'll make up for it next time! The stew beef was sooo tender. I mean "cut with a fork" tender. The meat just melted in my mouth. I was really impressed with that. I also loved the big chunks of potatoes and carrots. They were soft and tender. This time, I also received a massive portion of rice. I wished I got a little more meat and less rice because it's just so tasty. The rice is definitely good but not my absolute favorite. I feel like it tasted slightly different than my last visit. The food was really good though. I do think the plate was a little pricey compared to other places I've ordered from for the same portion. I'd definitely visit again and try another dish. read more

Way overpriced! I was charged $36 dollars for two plates. On top of that the pernil was salty AF! The carne guisada was bland. This was my second time buying from here I wanted to give them another shot but after this I definitely won't be returning. read more

I should've left this review a long time ago. I used to come here in 2020-2021 to support a fellow Latin owned business and at first it was good. But my business was on the same block and I saw this dude pulling buckets and trays of food NOT temperature controlled out of the back of some old dirty SUV that this older man would drive over every morning. And they put those buckets on the ground in the street and they would be there however long to unload. This place would have a bunch of food handling and health safety violations if someone called the health inspector to come watch them before they even opened for business on any given day. I also know this place had a mice or rat problem during that time; the whole building did, as I knew other tenants there. Way better latin food and cleaner restaurants with following NYS food safety standards in Poughkeepsie and surrounding area if you look around. New Nelly's charges way too much per plate anyway when you could get higher quality food and a nicer environment for the same or less at other spots. They used to leave them flans and tres leche cakes in the fridge way too long, they spoiled bc they're too cheap to make them fresh daily and didn't sell them fast enough cuz nobody really noticed them whenever I ate in there. Nothing worse than biting into what you think is a delicious tres leche just to get a mouthful of sour milk. read more

Bomb food, huge portions, and so inexpensive. There is no menu listed or prices so ordering takeout is hard unless you know what you like. All the warming plates are right in front of you so just i would recommend going in to order. The door was propped open when I went in but the place looked clean to me. The stewed chicken was flavorful but I would of liked a little more spice. Their homemade hot sauce is soooooo good, definitely ask for some to go and that made the chicken perfect. Also came in close to closing time and ordered plantains which they made fresh and were probably some of the best I've had. Definitely worth trying! read more

I love the crust on the empanadas...it's amazing actually....but not a fan of the saltiness in their food!! It's almost unbearable TO ME!! I was disappointed when I ordered a fresh pineapple juice...to my surprise after the first sip I knew what that familiar taste was (aluminum) Doles canned pineapple juice!! Horrible food anymore. They were never as good as the original Nelly's but I think they were pretty close and this one had a pretty convenient parking situation w/ much better food at first. The last time we were in, which was more than 6 months ago. The bacalao was old, such small pieces and all salt. The rice was old, and the lady had the nerve to ask us how it was, which they never do as if she knew it was terribly old, subpar food. I've been here on many occasions wanting some good Dominican food but I always regret it. The only thing that doesn't leave me feeling sick is the pork. Also- if you're white, don't expect to get fresh food, normal portions, or the correct price. My husband goes in here all the time and gets mistreated. I have no idea why this place is on Raymond Ave... we definitely won't be going back. It's almost comical to have a Hispanic person in front of you get charged $10 for a heaping bowl of the same thing you're about to order, and then when you order it magically becomes $12 and you get half as much food. I'm really surprised the health department hasn't been in here yet. Oh- and if you're going to talk badly about your customers, at least make sure they don't speak Spanish. Ehh. I wanted to like this place, but the food wasn't that great. I ordered takeout and got the chicken soup, arroz con gandules (rice & peas), and a beef/cheese empanada. The chicken soup wasn't bad, it was just a bit salty. The empanada was about 75% air and 25% beef & cheese. The beef didn't look or taste like beef and had no flavor. The rice & peas was okay, also just a bit too salty. I will say though that the portion sizes are very generous. read more

Don't go here ! They don't have menus so they can charge whatever they want . They even tried to tell me they charged me extra to sit there out of a to go platter . They made up three excuses why they changed the amount . When I called her to ask why she made up three excuses . We had pernil, beef stew, bacaloa, and pasteles and I thought they were fabulous! Not only was it tasty but we had a lot of food and two sodas for under $40, including dessert and maduros. I was so happy that we stopped in after smelling the wonderful aroma as we walked by because it was definitely worth the trip! Food quality has declined. The portions are tiny. The rice is mushy. I ordered beef stew, pernil and codfish stew. It should come with arroz con gandules. They gave me rice with mixed vegetables Instead. It was disgusting And mushy. No prices listed, went for dinner Sunday I got pork /rice and a drink ,food was good I was charged $13 Went back Monday got the same thing , different person at the counter an was charged $15 when I questioned why the price was different I was told tax , smh again I got the same exact thing 2 days in a row an was charged 2 different prices . The food was absolutely delicious! Although i'm not of Dominican descent this food feels and tastes like home. I ordered baked chicken, rice and peas, and a side of beans for an extremely desirable price. I cannot believe how much food came with a small order and the price is definitely not something to complain about. The empanadas were good but the plate was incredibly good! Even PRIOR TO COVID. .... The food here is very good. These are not the same owners as the Nellys on Main st. It is VERY sad that the customer service here is HORRIBLE. The fact that there are NO prices up on a display board or anything... makes it worse. One day I bought a lunch for $10. I went a week after and got the same thing it was $12. I went back a while after and it was $10 again. I feel like the ladies (aside from being RUDE and not customer friendly at all) make up their own prices depending on how they feel. Most times when I get there early on during the day maybe around 12 noon, the food looks DRY, it only leads me to believe it's not freshly made from that day. The ladies there also serve as if they're being watched or abused and can't serve a FULL plate and are very cheap with the meat especially when it comes to the roast pork shoulder. The DISGUSTING customer service will NOT allow me to go back. I've given them VARIOUS tries (maybe it was a bad day... we all have them) but no. That's just the way they are. Food was extremely bland, no seasonings, a pound of rice, shaving of oxtails as opposed to chunks of oxtails, roast pork moist but bland, chicken stew with no actual stew aka carrots, potatoes, onions, seasonings. Every gravy is tomato paste based. If you want a combo meal with 2 meats, not allowed. You will be charged $6 for the extra side of meat. I guess head cook/manager appears & tells server in Spanish you need to charge extra for gravy. Reason I know this because I'm Puerto Rican and speak Spanish.
