My husband and I visit this bakery every time we are in Wisconsin and they never disappoint on doughnuts. My husband loves the chocolate with vanilla cream filled doughnuts and I must agree, they are fabulous. You can call or use their website to order ahead of time, which I highly recommend to ensure they have what you want when you arrive. Pricing is fair and the staff are always welcoming. If you like baked goods, definitely give this place a try. Thanks!

After some biking riding on the great nearby trails we decided to stop into town to see how they were surviving Covid. We were excited to see a few shops open including the bakery so we went in. The display cases were still well stocked given it was late in the day (a sign perhaps that business is slow?). I selected a peanut square which was good but a bit dry and not what I remember from my younger days in Milwaukee. I also got a chunk of the bee sting cake for later - it was pricey but excellent. That center of cream is wonderful. We also picked up a donut-like pastry with a maple filling that was quite good. So why just three stars given the good eats? Neither of the young workers were wearing masks! State mandate or not as a business serving the public the owners should be enforcing mask wearing by their staff during this times. Perhaps they deserve just one star!

We took this delicious turtle cheesecake home and devoured it within minutes

Yay for sugar! The New Glarus Bakery is a cute little shop with pies, cookies, cheesecakes, cakes, etc.  They even have dog biscuits. There's something for everyone.   I kept eyeing the turtle cheesecake until my husband said we needed to get a piece.  They're huge square pieces, so it's probably best to share with someone.  It was thick and rich and delicious.   My husband got 2 peanut butter cookies, and said they were pretty good.  I got a couple of pocket cookies and didn't care for them.  I did sort of like the croquette cookie.  I wish I'd tried some other desserts, because they looked awesome, but we bought enough!   We only paid $9 for everything we bought. Not bad at all!

Purchased an eclair since there was a sign in the door celebrating today as "National Eclair Day." I took one bite into it to instantly realize it had been frozen. When I brought it to their attention and told them the custard was frozen inside with ice crystals, there was no offer to give me another item. Instead, the girl tried to say it was just chilled in the case. It wasn't until I pinned her down that she admitted they were baked on a previous day and taken out of the freezer. So frustrating! A good bakery doesn't pull baked items out of their freezer, put them in a case, and sell them as if they were baked that morning. We won't return.

Small, but oh so mighty. We stopped in on a recommendation from a friend, and it was the best decision we made. The worst decision we made was not finding the time to come back here to get more treats before we went home! The place is relatively small, but they had a really good variety of baked goods, from chocolate brownies to coffee cream cake to crispy and savory bread sticks. They also had coffee and hot tea for sale, but we stuck to the sweets! We ordered an almond horn, cream horn, and a "bee sting." The prices were pretty good as well, and we could have (and SHOULD HAVE) ordered more goodies. Almond Horn - This was a pretty good horn. I think it just paled in comparison to our other purchases. It was flaky and light, and was a solid pastry horn. Cream Horn - The cream. Let me repeat. THE CREAM. This is by far the BEST cream horn we had ever had, and it almost all comes down to the decadent cream inside. Sure, the flaky and crispy pastry was the perfect vessel, but its the copious amounts of lightly sweet, super silky, melt-in-your-mouth cream that stole the show. AMAZING. Bee Sting - I'm done. This was so good I just can't stand that we don't live closer to this glorious little bakery that could. The top is a honey-almond topping, the middle is a THICK layer of buttercream, and the bottom is some sort of yellow cake. I couldn't believe the buttercream on this thing. The layer was so thick that I was a little worried at first, because buttercream can be cloyingly sweet sometimes, but this one was sheer perfection. It melted in our mouths, revealing a slightly sweet, lightly buttery flavor that was just unmatched by anything. It even beat the cream horn cream! It was that good. We were unbelievably impressed by this little town bakery, and would highly recommend that you stop by if you are anywhere close to New Glarus. You will NOT leave unsatisfied.

A perfectly fried and delicious cream-filled donut!

Quaint bakery in the cool little village of New Glarus. Treat yourself to a Raspberry Berliner or an Apple Fritter!

The nut horn was awesome, I wish I would have bought more of them! My husband had a caramel apple fritter that was messy but good.

Sweet Street Bakery - The wedding cake Sweet Street made for my nephew's wedding. Just what I pictured in my head when I ordered it.

When my nephew decided to get married he and his fiance were ready. They knew it was the right…read morething to do, so why wait? In planning the wedding in a short seven weeks and in an effort to limit expenses he and his bride chose to forego a wedding cake. Having planned my own wedding I knew how important a cake was and didn't want them to have any regrets. So the uncles decided we were going to surprise them with a cake. The thing is, we learned this little detail just two weeks before the wedding. I live in Los Angeles. The wedding was in Monticello, Wisconsin which presents some logistical issues on top of having just under two weeks to make a cake happen. After a quick Google search I found Sweet Street Bakery. Enter Julie Winkelman. I placed a call to Julie and explained the situation. She was excited to help us with the surprise wedding cake, despite the short notice. During our conversation I told Julie how I would like the cake to look and chose a traditional wedding cake for the top tier, lemon cake with raspberry filling for the middle tier and cappuccino fudge chocolate for the bottom tier. This was all to be covered with a beautiful white butter cream icing with piped scroll details to be slightly different on each tier with the a monogrammed letter L on the middle tier. Mind you, this was all done over the telephone without benefit photos, only the picture I had in my head. Julie and the staff knocked this out of the park. The cake exceeded all expectations, both in looks and in taste. It was just what I pictured in my head and everyone tier was moist and delicious. But most importantly, the bride and groom were truly surprised and overjoyed. The cake was the final detail to make their special day perfect. And as an added benefit, Julie told them to call her a couple weeks before their first anniversary and she would bake them a small cake to celebrate. Saying thank you doesn't express how much we all appreciate what Julie and her bakers did for our nephew and his bride on their wedding day. I highly recommend Sweet Street. (I am posting a photo of the cake. I provided the cake topper so if it seems large for the cake, that's on me.)

Our favorites were the bananas foster whoopie pies, the salted caramel apple cupcakes and the white cake with pineapple filling, buttercream frosting and coconut shavings. Julie was a pleasure to work with. We highly recommend Sweet Street for your wedding treats!
