New China is great. I love eating here and can't recommend it enough. If you plan to sit-down you need to order the lunch or dinner special for some delicious meals for cheap. Have ordered dinner from here twice. Decent food. The first time was good, enjoyed the sesame chicken, crab/cream cheese wonton, and pork fried rice. Ordering over the phone is difficult if you struggle to understand thick accents, but it's doable. The first order was two dinner plates, both were correct. Tonight it was two more dinner plates and they messed up my request for JUST pork fried rice. Be aware - when they tell you 10min for your order it's safe to add 5-10min to that estimate; or in my case tonight -- 25min extra. Also, the order of 10 fried wontons is just that, flat fried wontons; no cream cheese. I made the mistake of assuming there was cream cheese... My bad. 2 stars removed for poor time estimates and only OK service, food is alright. read more

Stopped here on our way north. Best Chinese food I have had in my five years living in the northwest: from the soup to the entrees. I was a bit disappointed that they don't serve fish (seafood dishes are either prawns or scallops) - But the fried prawns and the chicken with black bean sauce more than made up for that. Ordered lunch today at the urging of some staff. The menu downloaded clearly states that the Chef's Suggestions "Happy Family" came with steamed rice. When the order was placed over the phone, they made no mention that rice did not come with the 'Happy Family', nor did they ask if I wanted rice with my entree. Really, no rice with Chinese food is like no pasta with Italian. So upon returning to the window service with menu and receipt in hand, one of the employees just says it doesn't come with rice despite having the printed menu in hand. So they just lost a potential customer that LOVES Chinese food over a container of rice. Not the best business plan in my book. Food was fine... service extremely poor! read more

Best Chinese food in redding the fried rice is hella good and the sesame chicken is soo yumm I love their hot green tea the prices are really cheap and brings a lot of food! You can share the fried rice & chicken, the noodles are pretty good too. They have Chinese music playing in the background makes it feel very authentic & they make the napkins shaped like a chefs hat super cute! I wish I could give ZERO stars! What a horrible experience. This is the last time I will every give New China a chance. I decided years ago that the chicken foot with claws I found in my food, although a little off-putting was forgivable but the RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL customer service should never be tolerated. Wrong from the moment we were seated. The owner/manager that took our order was openly hostile about my very well behaved grandson, our desire to have a moment to look at the menu and apparently everything else about us. We were rushed, my daughter received her food before the rest of us and was finished before we got ours. The check was put at the table almost immediately and we were asked if we needed boxes while we were less than half way through our meal. This man that took our order, barked loudly at my daughter when he returned to "box" up our food and it was apparent he wanted to swat her hand for removing her shrimp, to continue eating it. We were then treated to a hovering waiter as we got ready to pay and leave. It appeared that he was eager to process our bill before we had the chance to leave. This was the rudest I have ever been treated while dining. Did I mention that the food was horrible? The rice was dry and inedible, the egg drop soup was thick and goopy, the sweet and sour pork had dried out chunks of pork in the center of thick batter and the pu pu platter had different degrees of chewy, bland meats. So very disappointed but more disappointed that I didn't refuse to pay for such a bad meal. read more

We ordered take out after a long day of traveling. I had the sesame chicken dinner that came with soup, fried rice and chow me in. I found it to be the best I had in quiet awhile. My husband had prawns in lobster sauce and said it was very good. We enjoyed our meal and they were very nice when we picked it up. Would suggest if you want some good Chinese food. read more

It's been a while since I tried this Chinese Restaurant. My first visit wasn't too spectacular so I didn't go back. This place is close to home on the west side of Redding and we wanted take out. YUUMMMMM! Lemon Chicken - awesome, Kung Poa - perfect, Moo Shu Pork - incredible. Next time I'll eat in. The decor is inviting and friendly and it seemed to be relaxing. By far the best Chinese food in town, but when you call in a to go order if you drive from across town with the limited amount of time and you were very clear with your order and half of it is messed up just know that the female employee will argue with you not only do you have to drive across town again they don't compensate you in anyway. And when you call them back to let them know and have them fix it you can hear the lady talking shit in the background to the manager very unprofessional I'm very angry and this whole experience was extremely rude. Best Chinese food in town. I've been going to New China for years and the food along with service is tasty and efficient. Try the War won ton soup - warms you up on chilly day. Salt and pepper squid and shrimp are a must as well. If you like fried rice, I recommend the house special - it has everything you want in one dish. read more

If I were just rating it on the food, I would give it probably four stars. Takeout service, however, is pretty bad. Last night we ordered garlic shrimp, potstickers, veggie mai fun, and mixed vegetable. Instead they gave us two orders of kung pao shrimp, the potstickers, mai fun with pork, and the mixed vegetable. Since I don't eat pork, this meant that my dinner consisted of kung pao shrimp and mixed vegetable, and I really don't like kung pao shrimp. (The kung pao shrimp was a sea of bell pepper and celery, and the shrimp themselves didn't taste particularly fresh. The mixed vegetable was good, but basic.) The whole order cost about $40, which for two people for two meals wouldn't be bad, but since my portion of it was crushingly underwhelming, it felt like kind of a rip off. If this were the first time that something like this had happened, I wouldn't be jumping on Yelp to give a bad review, but this is like the third time in a row that they've screwed up our order. The plain fact of the matter is that the guy behind the front desk taking orders does not speak English. Don't get me wrong: I love immigrants, they built our country. But when you say to the guy "I want mai fun with NO MEAT, just vegetables," and he says "No meat?" and you say "No meat, just vegetables," and the mai fun has meat in it, there's a problem. I lived in Redding 20 years ago, and just recently came back. I was disheartened to discover that all of my favorite restaurants had gone out of business! I was really in the mood for some good Chinese food! After looking through all of the great reviews of New China, I figured I'd give it a try! My daughters and I ordered the crabmeat cheese wontons, pork fried rice, pork chow mein, and sweet and sour chicken! Each item was better than the next! The food was so delicious, that we have returned several times since our first visit, last Saturday! Even though the restaurant is small, it makes for a more quite, slow paced, dinning experience! It is very clean, and the staff is very welcoming and friendly. If you're looking for great Chinese food, in a relaxed environment, New China is the place to go!! After all the reviews I thought this was gonna be a winner so bummed! We got food to go, I ordered the Cashew Chicken which was good, Sweet & Sour Chicken which was way to mushy and 90 % Pineapple, Broccoli Beef which we never got, and Beef Fried Noodles which were good. The food is good. Sweet and sour chicken, chow mein, sesame chicken and Mongolian beef are my favorites. Service is always fast and we can get in and out really quick. My only complaint is that they don't seem to like kids very much. Anytime my husband and I bring our kids they always sit us in the table farthest in the back and next to the bathroom. Our kids are quiet and really well behaved so it's kind of irritating to get sat at a crappy table (pun intended). We tried going with all four of our kids and they still tried to sit us at the table in the back when clearly it wasn't big enough for all 6 of us. I ordered just two items over the phone. Pork fried rice and Kung Pao Chicken. I waited 50 minutes. When I got home, the chicken was cold and slimy, the rice, warm, and completely flavorless. I've read a lot of complaints about bad service from New China but I have always received great service. I don't know of any other Chinese food place where you can order one meal at dinner for $10 that gives you soup, an egg roll, chow mein, fried rice, and the entree! You get so much in the dinner combo that you can easily split it with someone else. I always order the orange chicken or kung pao chicken. You can't go wrong with either. read more

I went here on a trip because I was really craving Chinese food and this was not only nearby but open (unlike the first place I tried that was randomly closed despite posted hours). The service was stellar. They were attentive and sweet and clearly care about the work. We were in there at an odd time and most people coming through were for take out. We had a group and so tried a bunch of different foods. The good: Egg rolls (very flavorful, especially for veggie egg rolls) The orange chicken - had a great texture was delicious The pan fried noodles with pork. The noodles were chewy-so watch out -but the dish was overall fantastic. The stuff I'd skip next time: Broccoli chicken - it had no sauce. It kind of just tasted like really tender chicken (too tender) and cooked broccoli. We didn't even bother eating it. Mongolian chicken- I suppose it was a fine dish; it just wasn't quite what we were hoping it would be. It was mostly just spicy chicken with a slight sauce and then some hidden scallions and noodles. I didn't try the sweet and sour prawns but the rest of the table loved them. I'd go back; I'd just be careful what I ordered. Best Chinese food in Redding!! They are very friendly and the food is so fresh. They have the best value for your money and they are very inexpensive. They also are accommodating with substitutes you ask for. They even give you an orange at the end of your meal with your fortune cookie. The war wonton soup and egg flour soup are one of the best. I've been to all the Chinese restaurants in town and none of them compare to this one. The only thing I wish is that they were closer in town. read more
