Great little neighbourhood bakery . I've lived here for 12 years and only recently found this place . Fresh , quality breads and pastries . Very reasonable prices . Staff is always pleasant and helpful . The parking lot is terrible since the mall redid the layout and the addition of the new No Frills which is in the same corner as the bakery . Of course this has nothing to do with the bakery itself and just a note to self . I always pop in for fresh pastries when we have company coming over and everyone comments on how delicious they are . Since the lockdown New Amsterdam Bakery has become my safe covid pastry haven in an otherwise well lets just say, uncertain time. Now more than ever, we need that beacon, that sunrise over the horizon to forget about the obvious risk of a warm,freshly baked pastry and it's potential ill effects. When it comes 2 risk, its safe 2 say we have become adept at restraint and the gravity of risk in general...so absolutely indulge in joy when it occurs , even seek it out and own that mo- fo 'cos this is somethin' u can totally control and feel good about it! The gyms r closed, winter is here,surround yourself with those ppl and things that deliver joy,be good on yourself, we have been through absolute hell, foodie-wise, personally, professionally and def socially! We will c this s- storm thru friends, in the meantime... call ahead the day b4 to pick up ur cinnamon buns with custom ingredients like raisins and extra icing ....that's how I roll. ( cymbal crash! ) So grateful 4 this bakery and their wonderful, demeanour and mad baking skills. Familiar classics from the best 'still warm' rolls,breads,pastries and decadent treats including hand made donuts, bars,cakes,cookies and even some rare goodies from another place and time you haven't eaten in decades. So do yourself a flavour favour and revisit your past with a sensory overload from yesteryear then take a bite of something new 2 start a whole new tradition for our bright future we all deserve just around the corner. Their donuts are super soft, like malasadas (if you've ever had them in Hawaii)! I ordered a strawberry pocket donut one time and the lady even assembled it from scratch. Love all of their donut flavours! read more

Our workplace always gets the donuts here, they are super delicious. The fillings are quite traditional but they do it right. The donuts are not super sweet which I love. The strawberry one is the must try here. read more

They ruined my surprise for my boyfriend and were extremely rude and horrible when asked for an explanation. I bought a cake yesterday and I got it custom made for a birthday. I provided the manager with every single detail possible about the cake along with a reference. But the cake came with spelling mistakes on the word "happy". Cake tasted bad and did not look like the cake I wanted it to look. The cake itself had sand like texture and felt like that when I ate it. Really disappointed with my experience I called the bakery and they told me that manager will give me a call back. When I got a call back, rather than listening to my issue with the cake manager said "Other people never had issue with that cake". After trying hard to explain this to the manager she said to me " I can not do anything for you, give me the whole cake back for a full refund". She wanted me to give back the whole cake I had tasted it. After that she put me on hold and started talking to someone else. I understand that I sound like a mean person but for everyone This is the cake I ordered and this is the cake I got. ( Just for clarity the cake with happy spelled as Happpy is the cake I got from this bakery) I would like to ask everyone is this a professional custom cake or am I overreacting? This bakery offers a decent selection of baked goods. I bought a number of cookies to try and they were all pretty good. This is definitely a hole in the wall kind of place and the prices kind of reflects that. I was paying attention and was not overcharged as reported in a previous review. read more

Never again. Not because the bakery food is bad. I was shocked to finally bust Maggie Lim, the manager overcharging me. I was getting confused over the past 6 months about my receipts and prices not being consistent. I paid attention and she (Maggie) yesterday as I noticed her quickly entering 12% surcharge on the product as soon as she saw me taking out my ATM card instead of cold cash. It's bad enough that any business does this, it's super horrible when it is slight of hand. I confronted her, and she said it was store policy. I asked her to either show me the policy or direct me to the policy maker. A simple "don't know" was all I cold get. Well, make sure that when you go in there, they're not arbitrarily over charging you for your product. read more

Cheap, very good donuts and the best apple fritters I've ever had. We used to pick up donuts at Breka on Fraser in Vancouver to take when visiting family in Surrey, but no more. Highly, highly recommend this place for sweet baked treats, with the following caveat: The cinnamon buns look great but are kinda generic tasting. Too much like a soft white dinner roll with a over-sticky glaze on top. Also, although haven't had any of the normal baked goods (bread, buns, etc.), I can't say much for the sausage rolls. They weren't bad at all, but not as fantastic as the apple fritters. read more

This is probably one of the few places near home i actually like! The staff is very friendly and the prices are very cheap. You can get anything from pizza dough, bread crumbs. cookies and a ton of other pastries. Shortbread cookies are awesome and so are the donuts and little cakes. The great thing about this place is everything is small and you can buy a little bit of everything. I visit this place 2-3 times a week and will continue to. read more

Been coming here for well over 20 years. We've bought all our birthday cakes for all our family members from this location. The four things we have special ordered are birthday cakes, cupcakes, triple chocolate brownies, and pound cake. They were all delicious. The very rare occasion that we do have a problem with our order, the very friendly staff deal with it right away.
