Lemon Hisbiscus Frissant (front) and Strawberry Thyme Frissant (back) - $4.50/each
    Mandy T.

COVID-19 DELIVERY REVIEW: During this time, I''ve found some joy in getting yummy goods delivered to my door. Swiss Bakery was offering 10% off and free delivery on orders over $25 (before tip), and they apparently have a product called "Frissants" which caught my eye. I decided to checkout their online ordering system and found it very user-friendly, and most products had pictures which helped a new customer like me figure out what to order. I got the 2 flavors offered at the time, the Lemon Hisbiscus and the Strawberry Thyme ($4.50/each). They were both very good! But also very oily. They reminded me of the sugared PNE donuts except bigger and had different flavors. I see some reviewers comparing these to cronuts; I've had cronuts in NYC before and these do not taste the same. The frissants here are less dense, more sugary as both were covered in sugar, and more oily - I prefer these frissants over cronuts because I like a more airy and sweet product (except for the oil). They have a large offering of other goods too. We also tried: - Matcha Brownie ($3.80) - Was OK with strong matcha flavors and on the sweet side. - Double Baked Almond Croissant ($4.50) - Was OK but I've had better around the city. - Rosemary Raspberry Madeleine ($2) - Because I normally use Rosemary on my chicken, I couldn't get over thinking about chicken as I ate these. Its an acquired taste. So far I'd definitely get their frissants again and continue trying their other goods for other new favorites. As for the delivery, you get to choose your delivery time from what's available online and they arrive within an hour of that time. Our delivery came 30min before the delivery time chosen. It was prompt and they use their own delivery which is always a plus!

My husband told me about this little bakery off of Main St. I wouldn't have known about it if he didn't tell me. Though the bakery is tucked away it seems pretty busy, which I can understand because of all the different baked goodies they offer (Apple strudels, walnut oatmeal currant cookies, brownies, cakes, croissants and frissants). Swiss Bakery is definitely protecting their staff members from COVID. They have set up a walk up concept with a sliding window and speaker so they can close the window and hear your order. They do have tape on the sidewalk to separate other patrons for the 6 feet rule. For the food and drinks I have only had the matcha latte. Now I haven't been to many places for matcha but I can say that Swiss bakery matcha is much better then Starbucks matcha. I find the texture is smoother and less lump when you drink A++. I've tasted the Pear Au Wine Frissant and Apple Fritter. Pear Au Wine was definitely something that I had never tried before. It's a mix between a croissant and donut. I found it quite nice not too sweet and had a perfect balance of flaky inside and outside deep fried like a donut feel. Now, I found the Apple fritter tasted good, not overly sweet, though I wish there was bigger pieces of apple or an apple filling in the centre. It just didn't taste a lot like apple to me. I also found pockets of oil when I was biting down in certain parts of the fritter. Would I get it again probably not, but I will try many more of their other goodies.

    Pretzel croissant

Reasonably priced and good quality pastries. I tried their pretzel croissant since I was craving something savoury. It definitely delivered on tasting like a pretzel. From appearance, it didn't look like much, but it had the perfect saltiness to it and wasn't too buttery. At $3.50, it was worth it. Last time I visited, my friend had their coffee and mini creme brulee croissant summer special combo. It was a good deal and the croissant was the perfect size. With a chantilly cream inside, it can be quite filling, so the mini portion was just right. My friend enjoyed it and would come back to try more. I'd also come back to try their other pastries or sandwiches. Currently there is construction in the area, so it's a bit of a maze to get to it since some sidewalks are closed. But I'd still make the trek to it for their baked goods.

I bought a couple of cronuts (frissants) and a chocolate croissant here. All of them tasted great! I went to this bakery before they closed at 6pm, so there was not much varieties remaining. I should have come in the morning. I told a server there that it was my first time here. She introduced me what was good or very good. I thanked her help. When I drove by on the way to work in the morning, I saw people came here to buy a cup of coffee and some bread or pastries for breakfast. Usually the bread and pastries are more fresh and soft in the morning. There is street parking in front of the bakery. It is quite convenient. If you are in the neighbourhood, you should visit this European bakery and try some of their bread or pastries.

    Creme brulée croissant

Came here after dropping by Beta 5 as they were sold out of all their cream puffs :(( Luckily, it meant that I now had more stomach space to sample treats from Swiss Bakery ! It was right before dinner but I got a whole massive box (twice the size of my head) of goodies to try. Earl grey baby frissant (2/5) This was kind of a fail considering all the rave reviews about their frissants. The pasty was oily and dense, not flaky and light. The cream was way too watery as well. I might give this another go, but the regular sized version instead. Hopefully it will be less of a disappointment. Glazed doughnut (3.5/5) Pretty good, not too sweet. The dough could have been a tad more fluffy though. Coffee doughnut (4/5) This was a nice doughnut and I cannot believe that it's vegan ! The coffee elevated the flavour of the doughnut, and again, it was not too sweet, which I liked. Pecan tart (2.5/5) Not my favourite pecan tart I've tried, but it was passable. A little small for the price though. Gluten free brownie (4/5) This was also really good, and had a rich chocolate flavour. It was smooth and silky, and reminded me of a fender version of a ganache. Not the kind of brownies that I'm used to eating, but good nonetheless. Genmaitcha brownie (4.5/5) This had a nice matcha flavour that was prominent but not overpowering. I really enjoyed this a lot. Creme brulée croissant (3.5/5) Saw this on Instagram and I just had to try it. It's super photogenic, but the croissant itself was just average. Peanut butter crunch (5/5) This is a must get ! The peanut butter had a nice crunch to it and it had a nice strong peanut butter taste. This was my favourite out of all the items that I tried. I will definitely be back ! I love the creativity of the items, and most items were really tasty. The people were pretty friendly, and prices are reasonable. I'm going to give their frissant another go next time. After eating all the sweets we went to Heritage Asian Eatery on Broadway for dinner. I will post the review on that asap.

    Donut+Croissant=Frissant :)

Out of town guests? Ok, you need to try a Cronut. Except that term is now trademarked so we will partake of a "Frissant". On the most recent visit the flavours were Key Lime (meringue on top and tangy custard inside) and Mango Apple Crunch (apple pie filling and spiced crumbs on top). I LOVE that you are able to buy mini-frissants. They are the perfect size for this gal's appetite. My favourite item was not the most glamorous looking but boy did it bring the flavour! It was a 'granola' bar we grabbed from the top counter as an after-thought really. Sweet, soft grains with chunks of apricot and other delights interspersed. By the time we got back to our vehicle, there wasn't a morsel left. I have never had anything savoury, want to go back and sample. All of the sweets have been on point each time. You can grab & go, sit outside or in the cafe where natural light spills prettily in.

I had better treats elsewhere. So my work today has new people starting and we got treats from Swiss Bakery. Guess its cold because it was picked up early. I got a blueberry scone, and the scones are not like wow for some reasons. They look of their muffins and other treats looks nothing special. Scone taste like scones you can get elsewhere like at a supermarket. I saw my colleague grab a croissant. I think the croissant must be tasty because it looks really good looking.

    Chocolate frissant and coffee frissant

I came on an empty stomach and left on an empty stomach. I have always believed that if you ate hungry, everything would taste better. However, this wasn't true with Swiss Bakery. I was quite confused when I bit into my first "frissant", because all I could taste was an oily pastry that was left out for too long. Now, I don't really write many negative reviews but I was honestly quite disappointed with the frissant at Swiss Bakery. I haven't tried the real "cronut" made in New York yet, but I have tried Secret Location's cronut and it is much better than Swiss Bakery's frissant. We shared the chocolate frissant and the espresso frissant, and both were sub-par pastries. It was simply too oily and the cream was not good. The coffee flavoured cream was very bitter and it tasted like it was made from cheap instant coffee. Anyways, we also tried their pretzels and cream puffs and they were not good either. I could barely bite through the pretzel and while the swan-shaped cream puff was nice to look at, it was horrible to eat. The puff pastry shell was extremely hard, almost as if they had left it out for days! On the bright side, their staff were extremely polite and kind. I would say that Swiss Bakery is highly overrated.

The Swiss bakery is located on 3rd Ave and near Main Street. It's kind of big bakery shop and they influence Greek, German, French, and Swiss Bakery. I heard about trendy food from the news and radio last year, however, I doubt to try it! Cronut is a deep fried croissant donut then sugared, filled, and glazed! OMG! Sounds like greasy and unhealthy to me! I knew Swiss Bakery makes frissant is the Canada version of cronut. I was so braved to buy the chocolate orange and regular frissant! Well.. I doubt they use grapeseed oil to deep fried it, it's was not crispy and flaky inside even a bit dry! In fact, it's too sweet and greasy for me. Trendy food for trendy people but just not me.

Always a treat to check out the treats at the Swiss Bakery. I never leave without a reliable walnut/date bar. The pastries are clearly made with an experienced hand - looking top notch. The donuts are the best. Crispy exteriors and soft interiors with the perfect amount of chew. Perfection!

Everything looks delicious here. The croissants were just gorgeous, as were the rest of the baked goods. Would have been a 5 if not for the sandwiches. Pre-made, wrapped in plastic film. I had the breakfast sandwich, which was good, nice bun too but because it was pre-made the bread was a bit damp on the inside. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I'll be back I'm sure.

*Evil grin complete* Thinking ahead on the weekend for the girls meant only a 2 day differential before they DEMANDED that I fulfill my duties to satisfy their VORACIOUS appetite for baked goods of the sweet, sugary, cream filled, deep fried kind. They remembered me talking about it and they broke down. All of them. Women! They have NO will power! Girl 1: "OK, enough talk about the cronuts (frissants)! I want one. When are they coming? I can't believe you had one without sharing!!!!!!" Girl 2: "Oh!!!!!!!!!! You are so bad!!!!! I can feel my waistline expanding just thinking about it, but I'll have one." Girl 3: "I've been hearing so much about these. I want one." Girl 4: *Silent* but she had a huge grin. I happily obliged. And you wonder why I say single guys need to learn to bake? =P This is another one of those priceless moments. I already had my share on the weekend. I won't be partaking. The frissants were hoovered in a matter of nanoseconds. I was lucky I had time to take the pic! You know at the zoo where there are signs that say, "Do not feed the animals"? I thought I was going to lose my hand during the feeding frenzy. I think I need to set up a cage to protect myself next time. And there *will* be a "next time" I'm such a meanie. =D

    Honey lemon frissant (small)

I had to check out what frissants were, and boy am I glad I did. This local fritter and croissant hybrid was amazing, a definite must-try. I ordered a small honey lemon one, because I wanted a small taste before I commit myself to it. I would compare it to eating a cinnamon donut hole but much more softer on the inside. The outside was similar to a croissant. You did well to satisfy my sweet tooth, but I'll have to order a regular one next time. I need to try the other flavours!
