I'm somewhat on the fence about this business. Ideally I'd have ranked them 3 and a half stars, but I'm rounding up. I've been to many events catered by Lazy Gourmet and, for the most part, the meals have been quite good. Not outstandingly great, not bad, but better than average. Very good, I'd say. If I can generalize, on average their main dishes have usually been tasty, their side dishes are hit-or-miss (some are good while others, bland), and their desserts tend to be disappointing. In general, their serving size tends to be small. If you're a guy with a big appetite, you'd need at least two servings of everything. This past Thanskgiving, I ordered three classic dinner holiday meals for me and my close two friends. The price was on a par with all the restaurants that were offering holiday meals to-go - perhaps a bit lower, even. Picking up the meals was a breeze; they have a nearby warehouse where you can park for free in the alley behind where there is a door to enter to get your meal. (I picked up my meals the day before Thanksgiving and I paid to park at a meter on the street, as did other patrons. When we got to the front door, there was a posted sign to go to the rear door to pick up one's order. There I saw that there was free parking. This is all awesome, but it sure would've been good to have known this in advance! Their pick-up order info should advise customers of the free parking in the back, and that we'd have to go to the rear door. SO many of us had to carry our large orders from the back alley to our cars parked in the front by meters). Anyhow, let's talk food, right? It's all about the food! Our turkey meals were, for the most part, very good. The turkey itself was delicious: perfectly cooked and moist and we all loved it. The potatoes were great. The gravy, great. The salad, quite good but not outstanding. Their cranberry-pear sauce was a bit tart but still, quite good. I was too full for the other sides (vegetable, bread rolls) but my friends said they were okay. (Both friends definitely could have eaten more. The portions were small. For me, it was a perfect amount but for regular or big eaters, definitely skimpy portion size). What was VERY disappointing was the desserts. The menu said dessert would consist of: "Dessert Platter: lemon tarts, gingersnaps, ruby chocolate discs, chocolate cupcakes with pumpkin spice latte frosting". Sounds delectable, no? Well, when I opened the dessert box upon returning home from getting the order, I was SO shocked by what I saw: an assortment of nice but tiny, TINY desserts. How tiny, you ask? The "ruby chocolate discs" were each a red chocolate disc the size of a Toonie (perhaps a tad larger - but not by much). The "cupcakes" and lemon tarts were smaller than half an average-sized petite four. No exaggeration, they were the diameter of quarters. The gingersnaps were hardened round cookies (we all said they reminded us of Dad's cookies from the box. You know, the hard cookies you have to dip in tea to soften, lest you risk breaking your teeth). And worse, as tiny as these deserts are, we didn't even get one each of them! They just throw in an assortment so each person gets three. So there were only two "cupcakes" and two "tarts" (the tastiest of the desserts offered), and we also got three red chocolate discs (bland) and two cookies (hard like rocks). I really thought they erred in not giving us three of each item and I immediately emailed and called the place to say they forgot to package the correct desserts for my order. A lady called back right away to advise me that the order was correct, they provide an assortment of desserts and each diner gets three. (I WISH their online ordering menu was clearer about what was offered re: size of desserts and amounts offered, to eliminate confusion). All I can say is, these dessert items were SO small, and only half were tasty, I was so relieved I had a cheesecake in my freezer to serve (I had it saved for another dinner, but used it for Thanksgiving. The LG desserts I got was definitely NOT sufficient or appropriate!). So it's rather a mixed review for this caterer. Would I use them again? Yes, for sure, but now I know to ask specifics about the order, and to have extra foods on hand to augment the ordered meal. read more

Amazing cooking class! We have loved and used the Lazy Gourmet for over 10 years! With the loss of events and catering came an amazing opportunity to try their cooking class! A beautiful box with a 3 course meal came fully ready for us to roll up our sleeves. Each course had everything portioned out, instructions and everything we needed. The amazing Chef led us through each course, making sure that we were all following, and answering any questions along the way. He was charming to say the least! We set up our TV in the dining room so we felt like we were right there! Our box also came with cocktails which were outstanding. We absolutely loved our cooking class. We don't think we will be quitting our jobs anytime soon, but perhaps with a bit more practice we might get offered a job! ;P Highly recommended for birthdays, family events, or corporate! My firm used them to cater food and I would have to say the food was so so. Somewhat not that great. Well I noticed their fried stuff was very dry. Example lobster mac and cheese fried cubes were not moist at all. The fried mushroom risotto was the same. Sushi tasted like sushi I made myself (meaning not great). Gyoza was also dry. Things that I liked were their fruit platter and grill cheese (with interesting innovation like it had apple slice and green bell pepper). I don't get to pick who they use for catering. oh well. will continue eating Lazy Gourmet food in the future. read more

We ordered an Easter dinner package, $75/ 2 persons - we doubled up so it's $150 for 4 of us. When we opened the boxes at home, we could not believe the quantity of the package. It may be just enough for 2 or less. It is ridiculous to overcharge so much and take advantage of people. After an initial quote from the Senior Catering and Event Manager at Lazy Gourmet (Jennifer), I was ghosted on 3 emails. When I finally heard back, she said they went to junk and was making me a VIP so it didn't happen again. The status didn't help as I ran after her for an additional 2 weeks to make a few changes and ask questions about my order, including additional emails, 4 telephone messages left with a live person in the office that were never returned and two phone meetings set up for a specific time that she didn't show up for, nor did she call back to explain or set up an alternative time. After running after her for 2 weeks, I looked for an alternative as we were now a week away from the event. "Lazy gourmet" is definitely the right name but reflects the service more than those wanting to cater instead of cook. It all turned out, as we hired MisterGs in place of Lazy Gourmet - service was amazing, food incredible--couldn't be happier. read more

Their food is bad and their service is worse. Now, what's even worse than that are their drivers. As someone who lives near their HQ, I dread seeing a Lazy Gourmet driver on the road. They are slow, cannot steer their car within their own lane and cut you off without consideration. On one occasion I was nearly run off the road by a Lazy Gourmet car that attempted to merge right into the side of my vehicle. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic and I was able to prevent a fatal collision. I've attended several Lazy Gourmet catered events in the past year and each time, I am truly impressed with their selection and quality of food and cocktails. Usually, I find catered food kind of bland, as I understand it has to be agreeable with all sorts of palates, but their canapes are seasoned well and tastes great. My favourite has to be their special "stations". Think build-your-own chicken and waffles - delicious! They just had this at a special event at the CBC building (nice venue too). Also, the fresh guacamole station is awesome! They make it right in front of you with all the fixings you want. I went back for seconds and then some. Their staff are very professional and well-dressed. They clean up garbage and dishes very quickly, such as napkins, cutlery, and glasses guests may leave all over the place. This is usually a big pet peeve of mine as it makes parties look super messy. I've only tried a few cocktails, but the ones I have tasted are great, including an Earl Grey Martini. What I like best is that they always make sure to greet you at the door with some drink selections. I would totally give them five stars, but will leave that for my follow-up review for when I hire them to carter my own event! read more

Save your money. Bought a Groupon and got the lasagna, shepherd's pie and meatballs. The lasagna and shepherd's pie were very disappointing. It reminded me of dog food. The meat sauce in both are very similar. The lasagna had 2 layers of pasta: one in the middle and one on top. Mostly just meat sauce. The shepherd's pie had some kick but really, no vegetables except for corn bits. Yuck. Very disappointing and a waste of my money. I cannot believe that they charge $21 regular price for a 2-3 serving tray. M&M Meatshops does a better lasagna and shepherd's pie and they charge less. I'd get my money back if I could. read more

Added March 2015 - I think my review should be removed. This was ages ago and I certainly don't want to have this here forever. That seems unfair to me. I got a groupon for Gourmet to go. I was seriously disappointed. I used it to buy the hawaiian meatballs, chicken bites and mushroom risotto balls. While everything tasted ok, which hardly justifies the name or the price, the real kicker was how small the portions were. Not cheap, but impressive for clients and a really great selection. Above the quality of the food however is the accuracy and reliability of the order. Same goes for me! Groupon. We ordered the Meatballs, Mac & Cheese, and the Lasagna. Everything tasted only ok, NOT Gourmet! The meatballs were small, not many of them and were tough as hell. We were given a cocktail kit as a gift from my partner's work. When it arrived, we noticed a couple ingredients missing. The recipe card's ingredients include: 2 eggs whites, 2 thyme sprigs, 2oz fresh lemon juice, 4oz bourbon, and 1.5 oz rhubarb simple syrup. We received a bottle of liquid with a sticker label that reads "contains alcohol", 2 eggs, 2 sprigs of thyme, and the recipe card. This is suppose to be a kit. I would expect to have at least a lemon included instead of the juice mixed in one bottle along with the bourbon and rhubarb simple syrup. I understand if they're unable to give customers a bottle of booze but come on. Here I was thinking this would be a fun experience for my partner and I to mix cocktails together. I might as well skip the thyme and egg whites and drink the liquid mixture right out of the bottle with a straw. It was also packaged haphazardly and just overall disappointing. read more

Too much bread, not enough meat or cheese on the charcuterie board, large bowl of mustard on it, just to make it look like more. We ordered from them occasionally at work. They do a pretty good job on the sweets and cakes. recommended: Nigellaas Double Fudge Chocolate over the Chocolate Mousse Meringue. Both of them were rich but I liked the cake in the fudge over the mousse. We use the Lazy Gourmet for catering at work, and it's good quality at a decent price point. The food isn't amazing, but definitely better than other catering I've had. We've only ordered sandwiches and salads, so I can't speak to the heated foods. I like that they bring white serving dishes and utensils to dole the food out, and they pick it all up the next day. Ok, We're getting Married & I was recommended The Lazy Gourmet from our friends who used them for their Wedding about 4 yrs ago. I had The Most Horrifying experience with The Planning ASSISTANT (Yes! The General Manager gave me an assistant who knew NOTHING!!!) The General Manager gave every excuses he had for her, guess he trained her!!! I emailed the owner & told her as much as I can in details. She replied that same day & said in a couple of sentences, how sorry she is etc..etc... sounded good. I had the Lazy Gourmet cater an outdoor patio dinner for a 60th birthday for 25 people August 2017. Everything was above and beyond my expectations. The delivery went very smoothly, the food was sumptuous, including the appetizers,the carrot cake was the best I've had, and the main courses were varied and interesting and tasteful. They gauged the amount of food we needed perfectly with a small amount leftovers.They helped me select a varied and interesting menu and listened to my preferences, and every dish they provided was excellent They ensured the hot food was kept hot and the cold cool and the whole experience with them was effortless and satisfying. They have a really good catering system for businesses and their sandwiches are truly really delicious. We use them weekly at my work. If you want to order only one sandwich for yourself, they will deliver it to you as well provided you call them the day before and give them a credit card number. We just had the The Lazy Gourmet cater our Gala and everything was beyond our expectations! Fantastic service from start to finish and the food and onsite staff were better than I had even expected. We also felt cheated by the Groupon "special". I shop at Whole Foods and know prices for expensive treats- this was a big shock! I think that even with a high price we got about $45, maybe worth of food.The Shephards Pie was delicious but small for the price, haven't had the Lasagna yet, and the very tiny little Risotto balls rolling around in the large container were a complete rip off. My cousin's wedding was catered by the Lazy Gourmet and OMG the food was simply amazing! There were wonderful appies for the cocktail (mini chicken biscuit sliders) that were to die for! The staff that was serving them all were all very personable and very knowledgable with all the food items that they were serving and that were on the buffer (having so many food allergies myself, it was very comforting that they were all so confident in knowing items that were safe for me to eat and what I should avoid). Had them provide food for my wife's birthday brunch. Their initial response to my request was fast and worked with me on two order changes leading up to the day without any issues. The food was delivered on time and their friendly staff took the time to set up the service area in a neat and orderly way. They forgot to bring the plates and cutlery as discussed but their staff member didn't skip a beat and went right down to his van to get everything to make sure we had everything we needed. I used Lazy Gourmet to cater my wedding, as my venue had specific caterers I could choose from. Originally they were great, but closer to the wedding date I ran into major difficulties and would never use them again. The office is extremely hard to get ahold of, menu planning was a nightmare, and all my requests for where food was to be placed on the wedding day were ignored. The serving staff on the day were great (fast to clean up and pass out food), and the food was very delicious. But for the price I paid (and the nightmares I dealt with a few days before the wedding), I would not recommend them as a wedding caterer. I'm sorry Lazy Gourmet. I too am a Groupon victim-and posted pictures on a facebook page or six. I bought from the limited but yummy sounding menu for Groupons. The risotto balls others speak of were $32 for 12. Each was less than 1 inch and the total weight of the 12 was just over 5 ounces. The price is ridiculous and the whole experience disappointing. The company ripped people off. I have had lots of their food-bought without Groupon-and the portions for real people are bigger. So overall, I think an over-priced and perhaps a company that practices deceptive marketing . Food is gross and not fresh tasting AT ALL. If you consider mr. noodles with a bit of sweet chili sauce and couple slices of tofu to be "gourmet" then you will enjoy this. Why on earth would a caterer serve spring rolls in the hundreds to large groups? Obviously they are going to be soggy rather than crispy when they sit in a large pan for too long. Same goes for avocado rolls. Like yeah, they are going to be brown when the sit around for hours before you serve them. The previous year they served the most disgusting pad thai I have ever had. They also over serve and then act passive aggressive when you suggest donating leftovers...all three days of the conference I attended they wasted a TON of food! One guy was even completely rude and treated me like I was dumb for asking about donating the leftovers. You'd think they'd learn how much to produce after the second day...but nope, and it all gets thrown out. Salads lacked flavor, food was generally low quality and the staff are rude. I was questioned rudely about my dietary restrictions more than once and bombarded with the same questions unnecessarily over and over (in a rude and condescending tone). And if you even go close to the tables to look at the food before the staff are ready they will guard it with their lives and talk down to you. Like seriously, who is the customer here? They need lessons in service. Don't go near this place! Literally the worst caterers I have ever experienced (and I've had their food three times at the same conference). Gross! read more

I was looking at hosting a small 10 person informal brunch at my home for some friends and found LG to be the best option from a Caterer/Food Delivery Service without hiring a personal chef. I ordered from their corporate menu and was pleased to see the variety and options they had as we had a nut allergy and GF diner in the group. I ordered the Business Class menu which included the typical breakfast fare (eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled tomato, breakfast potato, pastries (GF/Nut free for a fee), juices and jams). The food was delivered on time and set up in our kitchen by the lovely delivery guy. It came in recyclable pans with cute menu cards and nice quality serving utensils. The food was hot and flavorful. Everyone enjoyed the variety and were please that the meal (in particular the eggs) were very nicely done. My initial call to ask about pricing was a little frustrating as I found the young lady on the other end just directed me to the site - I called because I couldn't find the answer to the question to the site, but once we got passed that it was a very easy experience. I was directed to a lovely women named Jill who promptly placed my order and confirmed my payment details. Overall a great option. read more

I recently attended a catered family party. I was expecting the typical fare but was impressed by the interesting assortment of food. And there were even options to please my picky teenagers! I asked the host who prepared the food and they pointed me in the direction of The Lazy Gourmet. I was so impressed that am currently working with them to plan a Christmas staff event and so far the service has been great - so many creative ideas that I know the guests will love.
