I wanted to get my chefs knives sharpened. Normally I go to my local Ace in Westerville. Found out they no longer do that so they referred me to the Johnstown Ace. I called before I drove there and asked if they do sharpening in house and how long was the wait. The lady I spoke to said yes in house and it takes 2 minutes. I drove to this Johnstown location and spoke to one of the associates in the store. She then proceeded to grab a clipboard and wanted to get my contact info since it was not going to be right away. Confused I asked why a wait since I was told over the phone 2 minutes. This associate said there were other people ahead of me for the job to get done and it would not be right away. I then found out the person who does the sharpening was not even in. He was on a break and not available. Sorry Charlie, you had one shot at getting my business. I will not be coming back. read more

I've been coming here for propane and wood chips for my smoker. Every time I come, the staff is friendly, my propane tank gets filled quickly, and I've never had an issue. PROOF: This Ace Hardware will take your money in unfair and shady means, if not outright fraud, if given the chance. BE CAREFUL GOING TO THIS STORE. My story -- I went to Ace Hardware with the goal of getting a car key cut and reprogrammed. I heard Ace Hardware did this so people did not have to go to the dealership. Great. I went there with a key I bought online. I asked to get it cut and reprogrammed. They said it would be $57 since I brought the key in with me. They made me sign a small piece of paper, that someone else had already signed (strange), that ONLY STATED "you hold Ace Hardware not liable if we damage your 3rd party key or if the 3rd party key does not work." THE PAPER SAID NOTHING ABOUT $57 FEE BEING NON-REFUNDABLE EVEN IF THEY COULD NOT GET THE KEY TO WORK!!! After signing, they take me up to the front desk to pay $57 for the service (AGAIN, NO ONE GAVE ANY VERBAL OR WRITTEN WARNING AT THE FRONT DESK THAT THIS $57 FEE BEING NON-REFUNDABLE EVEN IF THEY COULD NOT GET THE KEY TO WORK). I paid. Then the Ace Hardware rep and I went out to my car the rep tried for 15 minutes to get my newly cut key to work and the car reprogrammed. THE REP COULD NOT GET THE KEY TO WORK !!! It is at that point, AND ONLY AT THAT POINT, that the Ace Hardware Rep told me that most 3rd party keys do NOT work and that is why Ace Hardware sells their own keys. We walk back to the store. ACE QUOTES ME $159 TO ORDER AN ACEHARDWARE KEY AND REPROGRAMMING! I then say, "Ok, well since you could not get my key to work, let's refund that charge and I'll order the $159 Ace Hardware key." ONLY THEN WAS I TOLD THAT THEY DO NOT OFFER ANY REFUNDS FOR 3RD PARTY KEYS, EVEN IF THEY FAIL TO GET THE KEY TO WORK!!!! I was shocked! The Ace Hardware Rep had a look on her face that she knew what she was doing was wrong. But said "Dave the manager" will have to be called and asked to see if Dave will approve the refund. After 2 days of waiting, "Dave the manager" finally gets back to the Ace Hardware Rep who gets back to me that the best they can do is provide a $20 refund (NOT a full $57 refund). A little information about the Ace Hardware in New Albany by Giant Eagle. I had to buy a few quart's of oil there last week, I paid $6.99/qt. Thought that was high, I had a couple of extra quarts to return and was in Heath so I went to the Ace over there by Lowes. They would only give me $4.99/qt back even though I had the receipt from New Albany. So I loaded them back up and returned the to New Albany, asked for the manager and he said he couldn't do anything. I said oh well and I'll never spend another 140% markup in his store again. I don't know if this is standard for this store but I have to assume it is. Not a business practice I agree with or will tolerate! What a hassle so not my convenient neighbor hood hardware store. read more

This is a great place to go for any of your hardware needs. Keep in mind they're not a Lowe's or Home Depot as they're small and more of a mom & pop shop. However their customer service is outstanding and I would recommend them any day over Lowe's or Home Depot. It's now the 19th of October and I still have not received any communication from Ace Hardware concerning my order. I can guarantee that I will not order from them again. I try to support an area store like Ace however, when their customer service reps become vultures it kinda pushes a consumer away. Most of the time I am 99% sure where the product is which is fine that they offer to help, but when I politely mention that I know where it is and I can get it myself yet they are still over my shoulder I felt very uncomfortable. Also, when offering help to the vehicle and I say I am more then capable of helping myself, but thank yet you still force your help upon someone. Sorry! I rather shop somewhere else where they are not so pushy. When a consumer is shopping it is fine to ask if they need help and if they say yes I do, help them. But when they politely reply with I am ok, but thank you. Leave them alone! It's just outright creepy and annoying to have someone over your shoulder constantly. I plan on going to Home Depot for now on unless someone informs me that they are not going to be vultures. read more

Thanks to the people at Ace who were originally helping me with my project today I will not be finishing it. I pulled I their parking lot at 7:57 to grab a small part so that we could put our tractor together before the end or the night. They happily closed the door in my face and locked up!!! That was so rude!! I have always when working in retail let someone come in last minute as long as they knew we were closing any what they needed was quick!! I am so offended that they could not at least offer to help me find what I needed quickly so that I could be out the door quickly.
