A card and game shop in the Alameda area…read more I was in town and a friend brought us here to check out. Although a small shop, you can tell that they have their local favorites come through. There were some people playing in the shop when we came in. Because the shop itself is small, this made the shop already pretty crowded and a bit hard to navigate through. They had some cute stuff after looking around. I mainly collect Pokemon cards just for fun (not to play) so maybe this wasn't more of my speed for the card shop. I got to see some of the things in their binder and they had some cool cards. The prices were pretty okay and I did pick up two cards. My friend that lives in the area comes here because he says they usually have things for a good price so that's good to know!

Pricing wise, I believe it's 0.25 a brick and 0.50 a long slab. Personally it would be cool if they charged a bulk price for a full cup, that's my only little gripe. But the people here are friendly and will help find anything they can that's within their means.

I asked one more question, which I believe was the most important one, is there anything I should do before I come in and they said no. Ultimately I took apart the Lego set, thinking it would be easier for them, plus no one I know would want a Lego set that's already put together. Where's the fun in that? Overnight I took apart the set and bagged everything according to the manuals. I think I did a pretty good job at doing all of that for them. The following day I went in and informed the person at the counter that I had called about trading in a Lego set for cash. I proceeded to show them the bags and manuals for the set. The guy behind the counter gave me a blank stare and looked at the bags and threw out a number. It wasn't a fair price, their reasoning behind it was the set was not put together, and how were they to know if it was the correct set and if all the parts were there. Furthermore, they stated that if I brought it in put together, the cash back would've been a little higher. Still not a fair price. He gave me the bags back and said I could go home put it back together and come back later. I just gave up. I sold it as is. In all honesty, I shouldn't have, but I lost my job prior to this interaction and I needed the money. Honestly, if you have Legos that you're trying to sell, just hold out and sell them on your own. Go to different toy stores, look up local toy groups, or trade events. It's not worth going here.

I can't say much for TCGs, but every time I'm in the shop, there is always some activity with trading/selling or games being played on the handful of tables set up in the shop. My son and I have been RC customers here for nearly a year and the owner (Michael) and crew are friendly and willing. There is a good selection of popular ARRMA, Losi, Axial and Traxxas vehicles and just about every single new release is in the shop within a few days. There is a curated collection of popular race vehicles behind the counter as well as Kyosho Mini-Z and handful of more specialized brands that only enthusiast hobbyist would even know about like Xpress, MST, and Corally to name a few. There is a small selection of planes and helicopters, and I've been able to have the shop order kits that are more obscure and have it be available within a week or so. I've found the prices to be the same as what is advertised on larger online retailers like Horizon Hobby, A-Main, or Tower Hobbies; Hobby Addicts does have a loyalty program, so I do appreciate that the business understands your patronage is important to them. More importantly, every dollar spent at a local business ends up within the community, so come on out and support your local hobby shop!

Had an awesome recent visit to NorCal Hobbies with my son. I hadn't been there since 2015 after…read moretaking a long hiatus from the hobby, so it was really cool to come back. My 4-year-old is obsessed with anything with 4 wheels, so getting back into RC with him has been such a blast. We came out to get my 2WD buggy on their awesome indoor carpet track and let my son check everything out. The whole experience was great. The track is fantastic, and the shop had such a welcoming vibe. One of the highlights was their indoor rock crawling area. We had been wanting to try crawling, and Will was kind enough to loan us a crawler to test out. Needless to say... we ended up leaving with one! Overall, we had an awesome time. Everyone was super friendly, helpful, and made us feel right at home. Can't wait to come back for more track time and check out some of the upcoming events. Be sure to support your local hobby shop!

As a Noob, it could be very intimidating walking into a store full of equipment and not knowing what to get. My wife and I felt none of that, as we were helped with great service and left knowing that I'll be coming back for parts later. The indoor track and "crawl park" (if that's what it's called), was very impressive and the atmosphere was welcoming along with the patrons that were there. I would have been a paying paying customer and there is no reason unless it was out of service that I should Not have been allowed to use the restroom that is designated for customers. They even had the restroom area barricaded so you could not get to it. The female employee did not say the restrooms were broken she simply said they were closed for the evening, Yet they were open for at least another hour. I hope Management addresses this matter. I understand having to monitor the restrooms in stores due to People that misuse them but that's not me. I should Not be prohibited because of those that do. I am very Disappointed with Michael's in Alameda as this has not been an issue in any of the other Michael's I frequent.

I originally started coming here because they have a large selection of Pokémon cards, which is definitely a plus. On this visit, I came in with a friend, and we were both excited to browse. When we first walked in, the employee helping us was fine--friendly enough and doing his job. When we were ready to check out, he called over someone he referred to as the "Pokémon specialist." That person didn't come over right away, so the original employee continued helping us. Midway through the checkout process, the other guy finally stepped in to take over. This is where things started to feel off. He only looked at maybe two of the cards and then began typing numbers into his calculator without explaining what he was pricing or showing me how he was calculating the total. I was just watching him enter numbers with no transparency. He gave me a total that was over $100, which didn't sound right. Earlier, when I walked into the store, I specifically asked if they price match TCG online prices, and both employees--including him--said yes. One of the cards I wanted was $10 online, but the sticker price in-store said $15. When I pointed that out and mentioned the online price, he simply responded, "That's the sticker price," without checking or acknowledging the earlier price-match conversation. That felt frustrating and inconsistent. I told him I didn't want that card anymore, and he adjusted the total down to around $90. When I was about to pay, I asked if I could use Venmo. He said yes, but instead of explaining the process, he just stood there. I had to ask how to send the payment and what their Venmo was, and only then did he pull out a piece of paper with the account information. The interaction felt awkward and unprofessional. He was also kind of slamming the cards on the counter while calculating the total, which didn't sit well with me considering these are collectible items. After we left, my friend and I both agreed the whole interaction just felt off. Like I said, I've had good experiences here before, which makes this one more disappointing. They have a great Pokémon selection, but this last visit left a sour taste in my mouth and made me hesitant about coming back or recommending to my friends.
