I found Neon Nails during my search in the area. I know nearby nail salons normally require an appointment so I called before going and they assured no appointment is required and they were ready now. Parking is TIGHT! There's a parking lot next door that I parked at but I wasn't sure about towing so I moved and squeezed into Neon's spacing. It's a small house transformed into a salon. On the door was a sign for a mani/pedi special for $35. Soon as I walked in they asked what service I wanted, I informed them shellac yet the lady still asked if I wanted a pedicure. Lol no thank you ma'am. Despite it being 40 degrees in Houston there were quite a few people taking advantage of the pedicure special. Even men. I was seated in a massaging recliner chair as the lady did my shellac manicure near my seat. I didn't notice a price sign but once she finished I asked the total and she said $16 for the shellac manicure and $15 for the massage. Excuse me, say what? "Can you repeat that". I do not agree with them incorporating a massage without the customers approval BEFOREHAND, especially when you can get a 1-hour full body massage for $25. I asked for a shellac manicure, nothing else but I didn't argue. I kindly said ok and handed her my CC. Although the massage was a nice addition and very relaxing, I wouldn't have agreed to pay $15 for it. Overall, my nails looked great and my massage felt good as well. As you open the doors, the ladies were there to greet and welcome you with big smiles and a lot of warmth. My daughter and I both had a manicure and pedicure set up. The place is clean, the ladies were friendly and did an excellent job. This was the best french manicure I've had. I don't like the tips too thick and Lan made sure they were just to my liking. I had the best nail salon experience I've had in a while here at Neon Nails. I called around 2pm (Sunday) for a mani-pedi and the owner got me in at 3pm (I live close by). Some highlights: 1. Efficiency: although when I got there all the ladies were occupied, the owner went out of her way to sit me in a separate room to soak off the dip powder I had come in with while I waited for my turn. 2. The owner was extremely meticulous and accommodating. She made sure I knew my options with nail shape, and took her time with cuticles, filing, and polish. 4. Massages: I was given a massage with my pedicure, manicure, and back massage at the end. I appreciated this SO much. Not many salons offer this kind of customer service anymore. I felt very pampered. 5. Price: extremely reasonable. For a regular polish pedicure, gel manicure, and dip removal I paid $65. A very kind employee started on my fiancee right away but the other woman who was responsible for mine did not come over for another 10 minutes. She pulled my feet out of the water, realized I had gel polish and started to remove the polish with a nail file for about 2 minutes before she told me she'd be right back. Another customer walked in for a manicure and she left me with my feet out of the water for the other client. More than 30 minutes pass by and my fiancee is done with his pedicure while mine hadn't even started. We paid for my fiancees pedicure and left. Will not be coming back. read more

PLEASE BE AWARE ALMOST ALL THEIR 5 STAR REVIEWS ARE FROM WOMEN WHO ONLY GET GEL OR MEN WHO GET MASSAGES. Anyone who wants more than that, leaves dissatisfied. I came in with a pink and white French tip set and was missing one middle finger nail. They encouraged i keep the same nails to save time. I wanted to do pink and white again but they don't have white acrylic. So they did a white tip on me and were going to do clear over. This was a terrible thing to do because the white tip didn't match my other nail. She then said we will just paint over it. I asked if we could do a color like red acrylic to cover it. Apparently They don't do colored acrylic. They will only do regular acrylic and paint gel over it. The problem Is, you can totally see the line of the tip she used and a week later the gel chipped. It seems like they do what they know how to do really well, but do not bother to stay up with the latest trends. What bothers me is this lady looked me dead in the eye and told me gel lasts longer than acrylic, when we both know that isn't true. My gel did not last more than a week, I can only afford to get my nails done once a month and now they are already chipping and the tips/end looked bad as soon as I left. I have never come across a place that can not do basic acrylic in color or maybe they lied to me. I domt know but the whole experience was very weird and instead of giving me what I want she pushed me in the direction of what she liked. And when she didn't do a good job, she just tried to play it off. I have never met a nail lady who was okay with me walking out with bad nails. I would only recommend this place to people who want very BASIC regular nails or just a pedicure. I'd also recommend teaching your NAIL TECHS MORE SKILLS AND GETTING MORE PRODUCT. read more

My close friend took me here for the first time to get our nails done. I got a pedicure and she got her brows done as well as a manicure. I can easily say this is one of the best salons I've ever been to and will gladly come back next time I'm here! They do an incredible job and are so friendly, nice, and respectful. They really care about their work and creating a comfortable space here. One of the ladies loved to hold a conversation with us and really enjoyed our company just as much as we enjoyed hers! I've been coming to neon nails since their location on shepherd and I love it. I had the pleasure of finally meeting the owner who did my mani and she is so nice! We talked about quite a few things, but the main thing she got across was how passionate she is about her business. She takes so much pride in the work they do here and the ladies she employs. She's constantly thinking of ways to keep costs down. Since it's located in a pricey area, they don't make much money but as long as customers are enjoying themselves and leave happy, then Jeannie is also happy. So yes, it's not a fancy salon, they don't do nail art. However what they do, they do well. Genuinely a great conversation today :) Yes, parking is a pain! But today I parked on the street and it wasn't bad. And yes, they were packed but I wasn't in a hurry nor did o make reservations. I sat and read while I waited my turn. Ok so I can agree with the good price and you get an awesome massage with the mani but don't go if you want a good job. First they don't even have real nail chairs set up just a massage chair a vibrating pedal stool and a bucket for your feet. I got shellac on my hands and a piece of fuzz got in the base coat. My lady pulled it out and continues with the shellac leaving a giant dent in the middle of my finger. When I point it out she proceeds to attempt to pinch it shut with critical clippers then begrudgingly files it down to start again. Telling me it's not her fault but my nail is messed up. There was shellac all over my cuticles and missing in spots. Also they cut my friends finger so bad when putting on solar nails she didn't stop bleeding for an hour. Don't do it. read more

I come here every two weeks for a regular mani & pedi which is only $30! Friendly staff, great work, and they get you out in a timely manner. The nail technicians give the best massages during your services. There's no big fancy nail spa chairs. Their chairs are comfy and allow you to put your feet up. They use vibrating bases and plastic buckets with disposable liners. If you are okay with that then you should come. They use tools that come out of sterile bags and the place is always clean and bright. Parking is a little slim, but street parking is available. Other than that, there's no downsides to this place. My nails are always perfect - EXCEPT! today I went in and the lady really did subpar work. I had never seen her there before. She didn't soak my nails to begin with (which I've never encountered before) and by the time she was done, one of the nails wasn't done all the way to the edge & was crooked. She didn't even put cuticle oil on. Let's just say, there were A LOT of issues, but I'll spare you. It looked like a strip center or Walmart job. However, I did the adult thing and complained to her face. I confronted her and the other technicians who gathered & asked for at least a discount. They kept saying it looked fine. I asked for the manager twice. The manager finally came around, and she was so great. She did what a business owner is suppose to do to keep loyal customers - she apologized & made it right. She even told me the loved me, lol. Another technician came and fixed the errors, and I left happy. The salon: This isn't an extravagant salon but it was clean and the atmosphere still felt very nice. They maybe had 10 chairs in the whole place. Manicure: There were not enough people working that day and it was really busy so I got my manicure done half way into my pedicure but I didn't really care haha. She apologized that I had to wait a little bit and told me she really wanted every customer to have the experience they paid for which is why she didn't want to rush on her previous customer and honestly that made me happy. The manicure was great and definitely was not rushed! I love love love the arm/hand/shoulder/neck massage. Was not expecting that since it was so cheap. They don't seem annoyed by your requests or presence. They're happy to serve you. The quality of the job done is as close to perfect as you can get. For shellac take off she soaked my whole hands in alcohol which I did not like because of how erosive and damaging alcohol is to skin. For the record I hate Yelp...but Yelp helped me find this amazing business. Had my manicure acrylic nails done by Ms. Genie and my pedicure by Ms. Mimi. You have to call ahead of time to schedule your acrylic manicure since only Genie does this at the salon (I called first thing when they opened and got an appointment for 2 hours later) and they take walk-ins for all other mani/pedis. Genie was very honest about the design she could do for me. Both ladies were extremely detailed and kept asking me as they went if I liked the look. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home and it had bled.
