The Techs are not skillful, struggle with basic French, and some even rude. It's quiet though and serene. I love my new color! The atmosphere was very relaxing and quiet. One of the employees provided us a drink menu where you can have wine, water or soda it made me feel like I was at home. I have been visiting this salon on and off for quite a few years now. I can say without hesitation that this is truly still a great place to have services done. I absolutely LOVE the owner/manager and just love the atmosphere that has been created here. On this last visit, I requested a full set with dip powder and extensions ($55). They charged me an extra $5 for "long nails". These are NOT long. If someone is getting a full set, I can't imagine that they could be any shorter than this! To make it worse, she didn't communicate the extra charges until she was done (I was also charged another $5 for the shape). My primary issue with this salon is how they remove my gel nails. I am from out of town and this is the first time anyone has ever removed my gels with a machine and made me dip my nails in acetone instead of wrapping in foil. I've been told by all my other technicians that gels should always be removed with a filer as it less damaging to the nail. They have also told me salons will use machines because it is faster. When I mentioned the machine was hot and asked for a filer they finally did. The hand that was done by machine ended up a cracked nail less than 24 hours later. Not sure if they were rushing as I came in at 6 pm. Also, I have dry cuticles so dipping my fingers in acetone doesn't seem appropriate. I received a classic manicure vs the "bougie" which they said was a difference in products. Not sure if that was why either. read more

This place is adorable and right in the middle of downtown. 2 minute walk from my hotel actually. I was in town for a wedding and my pedicure needed a refresh. A quick Google and this place was in walking distance. It's not the biggest place with only 4 stations and 5 pedicure stations. But it's so cute it doesn't matter. Now the small size is why they told me originally they were all booked till 4 30 when I tried a walkin. It was a Saturday so I was taking a risk. I put my name on the list and went back to the hotel. To my surprise they called back sooner than I expected and I got right in for a pedicure. Pedicure was great and my polish has lasted over 3 weeks now and it's not gel. I am not sure what to think about my one experience at Sojourn. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, called ahead if I could walk in and was told to make an appointment, which I made for 60 minutes later. The door says walk-ins welcome and there was 1 other person getting a pedicure. Hm. This salon is downtown so like most of downtown parking is an issue. I called back when I was in the area to see where I could park and was told they have 2-3 spaces in the North Garage, but to pay for metered street parking, which I did. I was very warmly greeted, as in, the salon was 77 degrees. It was a nice Houston day outside and as I fanned and sweated through most of my appointment I could tell they didn't want to run the AC. The actual mani was okay: the color of the dip I chose was very far off from the color sample. Additionally, the color was thin and after many dips, the technician was ready to move on but I could see through my nail still, so I asked for more to get the color. She obliged, but later skipped out on filing the edges down so I left feeling like I paid $50 and a $10 tip for a lumpy, large bubble of dip that is not growing out elegantly. The color is still transparent so I have to assume the premium dip product they use is expired or not as good a quality as expected. Downtown salons are hard to come by so likely I'll keep looking for my place in the Heights where many new places are open. I did not have any massage offered but was offered a drink. read more

Called to ask if they had time for a manicure tonight, the man I spoke with told me I would have to arrive before 6pm. They close at 7. Bummed cause I needed a manicure for an interview tomorrow and I'm only in town for 2 days. I even explained I really needed my nails done for a job interview. This is long overdue review, but I had to sit on it for a while because I wasn't sure what to think about the experience. But let me start with this... There aren't many quality manicure places in downtown (unless you're going to a hotel spa), EaDo, or in the East End so I was pleased to find Sojourn on Yelp. It's about 1.5 miles from my casa. I visited their website to learn more, and read they use better products, like Jo Malone, Aesop, and OUAI - but only for the "the bouji" service (mani $40, pedi $60), so these products aren't the standard across all services, FYI. The appointment was easily made over the phone; you can also make one via Fresha; all their prices are available online, so no surprises there. I went with a girlfriend, and again, we both had mixed emotions about the experience. Overall, I liked my manicure. I also appreciate the handwash station at entry, and their instructions to use it before handling nail polishes. I appreciate how they had mask requirements for both clients and staff. And the entire aesthetic of the shoppe is quite lovely. What I didn't like was the general vibe that day. There wasn't a warm welcome offered to me, my friend, or anyone else who walked in the door - except for one older gentleman who seemed to be a regular. Go figure. The owner was there, the place wasn't busy, so getting to know more about the shop, their specialties, etc would have been nice. It was just dead silence. I'm looking to build brand loyalty with a new nail salon in the area, and this place didn't seem like new customer/client relationship was important. Again, maybe it was the vibe that day, but when I walk out of a biz after spending money to pamper myself, I want to leave feeling better about myself, not "blah, what the hell just happened. Did I just spend money on that?" Another disappointment, for me, was that they don't have massage chairs. The plush chairs they have do look nice, but I'd rather have my body *feel* nice. So if you look forward to a massage chair, this isn't a place for you. Also, I wasn't aware that because they don't have massage chairs, the hand/foot massage (depending on your mani/pedi) are included in the experience. I wasn't told that, so I declined the massage when the nail tech offered. Again, I wasn't too excited about the experience at that point, so I didn't want to pay them more money to stay there longer... It would have be nice to be informed about that instead reading about it in their Yelp reviews. Overall, the nail tech I had did a good job on my gel main; my girlfriend liked her nails as well - we didn't get to talk much because they didn't seat us next to each other like other salons do when you make a joint appointment. I'm not opposed to returning, I just hope the overall customer experience improves if I do. read more

The technicians were nice, discrete, and did a good job. The overall concept though just isn't for me. Be aware that you're sitting in a "'normal" chair that doesn't have automatic features and doesn't move. They plop a pillow on your lap for your manicure station if you get both services. It's both uncomfortable and feels unsanitary to be using so much linen while in the same space as cutting cuticles. There are pillows all over and I didn't love all the fabric in combination with a place where you get skin and nails chipped at. I kept wondering what fibers from other strangers are in the seat cushions and pillows. I now know with certainty I want my nail salon to feel more sterile and clean versus feeling like I'm on someone's "shabby chic" themed living room furniture. I prefer a table top setting, automatic chair to adjust for comfort, a larger foot basin, and a more "wipe clean" atmosphere. I also didn't love the upgraded products are called "boujie" - that's not a friendly term or one I want to be associated with. I like quality products but am not "boujie." I would have probably upgraded if the upgrade was called "luxury" or "enhanced" or something more socially acceptable. It's generally considered a disparaging word. Oh, and no pedicure dryer was offered so my nails chipped right away. Probably my own fault for not wanting to wait long enough. read more

I asked for 2nd cleaning since she rushed it AND I wanted my money's worth - it was expensive! I pay $30 - $35 for pedicures at Gloss Nail bar & other salons. Your cheapest pedi is $40. I paid for the middle option - $50. I should have proper cleaning a 2nd time with gentle & careful service. The reviews of Diana L and Chrisstie C (full reviews below) also attest to cuts & rough service with you. 2 years later & here I am experiencing the same rough service. I should have read these reviews before visiting! And please don't assume I have an ingrown issue. I am adult enough to know that I do not. Your words: "your heels were already smooth- you did not need the extensive callous remover tool" but then says video footage shows hot stones - this is not callous removal. You've contradicted & exposed yourself by admitting that I did not get the extensive callous removal which is what I was referring to. It is included in the $50 package. Please give me what I paid for. Do not decide for me. Do not give the Caucasian customer next to me the extensive callous remover tool while I as a minority, African American customer am short changed. This 2nd review would have never happened if you were apologetic. I would have even taken it down depending on kind customer service language in your reply. Was looking for new nail salon, so Decided to try it out. My nails give a 7/10. They were nice only thing I had to wait 30 min before I could start my refill. And it wasn't a lot of people in there. When the lady started my nails she was cutting me and burning me with the machine. At the end I'm left with cut up fingers that hurt really bad. Will not be back . Such a cute salon. It was quiet and personable. They even took me as a walk-in which was great. Didn't feel rushed at all and they genuinely tried to help me from start to finish with picking a color to the final top coat. They also offer beverages which is nice. Only 2 things holding this back from 5 stars! First is that I asked for matte finish. It didn't quite come out as matte by the end. I said something to the lady doing my nails but I was assured it just needed more time to dry. Wasn't the case.. it was still quite shiny but I loved the color so much I ended up not minding the shinier look than expected. 2nd is having to pay for parking at the parking garage. if I could offer a suggestion, it would be awesome if the parking was validated in some way for visiting the salon. Quality products (Origins for scrub and lotion), massage, Rose while I relaxed and a very attentive staff. The only thing missing is massage chairs. Please note that they are pricey particularly for TX standards $50 for the mid range service. I tried booking on Yelp appointment system and they were incredibly fast at response time.
