The experience my father and I experienced yesterday was really unfortunate and could have been handled a lot differently. The young owner presumingly in the black shirt was very disrespectful and rude, refusing to sell us any further fish (more or less banning us from his store) if he gave us this refund because we opted to return a fish that died that was in the 2 day window of the guarantee. He had no issue telling this to our face in front of his employees. A different fish that died that we returned was not the same fish and we were not provided the same results that were given to us before. As we explained to the original person helping, they are 2 separate beings/cases and not a "double warranty" issue as there is no such thing when they aren't the same fish. We would not have traveled 1.5 hours one way to return a fish that died if we were going to be banned from the store by exercising our right as a customer. A customer shouldn't have to concern themselves if they are going to be banned from buying fish at Nemo's Reef because they returned a dead fish. The lack of understanding and appreciation of our business was highly evident. We have bought more fish then we ever returned and to be treated this way as if we did something wrong, was how we were thanked for our business of spending close to $1,000 cumulatively over the last few weeks. I've never had a owner or a manager of a business made me and my family feel like we were unworthy of buying anything in his store when we had fully attended to buy more fish and spend more money, not only within this same store trip but in the following week. As anyone knows who has salt water aquariums in their homes or businesses, this is not a inexpensive hobby. The person in charge should treat customers with more empathy and respect, instead of acting like he's upset he had to speak with us at all. read more

one had TWO experiences in 2 days that really floored us, We had a fish a BLUE HIPPO that we got and it had died within the two day period so we came back with a water sample and the fish, They tested the water and said the nitrate was SLIGHTLY high and that was it, They issued the credit and I spent another $96 less the credit for a powder blue tang and a sailfin tang, On the second today I found the sailfin had died, THIS WAS IN THE SAME EXACT tank as the hippo which that water was tested. so I brought it with another water sample but this time was TOTALLY different. At first they said that this was NOT covered under the warranty since we had already used the warranty???? SO their LOGIC was if you buy a tv and it breaks and they replace it with another tv and it breaks you are SOL. Then they said my salt level was a little high, HIGHER what they keep theirs at and mine was 102.8 I then asked why is the same exact tank too high when 2 days ago it was fine, The excuse was he probably did not test the salt level, Which that adds to my argument that if it was a little too high 2 days ago and He TOLD ME, then I would went home and adjusted the level but they did not. the one that was in charged did not want to hear it, Cause the argument from him was were are killing the TWO tangs that we got but he FAILED to look at my purchase list as I also have a powder blue tang from him IN THAT SAME TANK and is still alive. Then he said in an AGREE VOICE give him the refund but do not sell him anymore fish????? SO he is guaranteeing ALL HIS FISH are in PERFECT HEALTH, so if that is the case WHY A WARRANTY? the DAY we before we purchased 3 more fish but NOTICE several fish that LOOKED DEAD IN THE TANKS and also several very stressed, I sent a message too him and it was no they were fine and no dead fish at all in any of the tanks, l was JUST TRYING TO HELP. That response was I been doing this for 20 yrs. Great so this is UNREEL, 20 yrs no dead fish, no disease fish and no problems at all, I DROVE 70 miles to return the fish with the water, IF I was told that the level was too high I would have lowered it and the fish MIGHT still be alive. SO REMEMBER THIS just like car insurance YOU GET IT aka a WARRANTY but you are NOT expected to use it and oh my god if TWO Fish die at what YOU BELIEVE is no fault of YOURS, YOU are made to feel like a criminal and be told you can NEVER buy a fish again from them, Really is funny though I was going to spend another $200 today and even more next week on the next shipment. I do NOT trust the health of the fish nor do I like a person to speak that way to me, I am a senior citizen, a veteran and disabled, NO REASON to speak to me like he did, and the last thing he said in a Total SA way I AM HAPPILY REFUNDING YOUR MONEY. What is HAPPILY my good little boy is you saved me a lot of money and LONG DRIVES to get to your place, you are just NOT WORTH IT. read more

I recently went in to purchase a new aquarium for my 6 year who desperately wanted some starter fish. I was sold an 'already prepped' 3 gallon Marineland aquarium for $150. A few days later, I found the same exact tank on Amazon for $51. The first thing I told the sales person was this was our first tank so I guess he took that as 'let's rip her off'. I recently moved to the area and even though there is a Petco 10 minutes away, my intent was to support a small business in the neighborhood. I will be going back to see if I can return the tank. The receipt I have says nothing about their return policy nor was I told what it was when I completed the transaction. read more

This place is amazing. Great staff, really helpful and knowledgeable. They don't carry every fish or product in the world, but what they have works and will thrive in your aquarium!! Definitely one of my favorite stores to visit and just walk around, they have really put a lot of effort into this new and larger location. I'm actually revising my previous rating. Initially we were super appreciate of the advice we were given as new to the hobby. Now after having learned a little more I'm realizing we were told some really bad information about when to add more fish and what types. We were also sold on an expensive filter to replace one that we got from the store that wasn't right in the first place. We didn't know a new filter would restart our cycle basically and we have lost a bunch of fish now. Let's just say we aren't running back to this anymore. read more

I manage another aquatics store in charlotte and I used to think highly of Nemo's reef as I have always referred customers there. I've personally bought fish 3 times from here and two of the three times I've had fish die (both plecos) I didn't return the first one since it died on the 3rd day and their return policy is only 48 hours. The second pleco that died didn't even make it a few hours so I took it back and brought a water sample like they asked. I tested my own water at home before going and everything was in range. When I got to the store an associate tested it and came back saying "the nitrates were really high and that's why it died, it was your fault" which was NOT TRUE. They tried to blame us so that they didn't have to do a return but eventually agreed to give us a 50% return (which still doesn't follow their return policy). There were almost multiple fish in their tanks that were moments away from death. I am VERY disappointed. I will never shop here again or ever referred my own customers here. They need to do better and improve on their customer service. read more

Same guy then the next service left wet spots (left side one step right side next step) on every step going to the second floor using 5 gallons buckets to carry water to my wife's aquarium. Many items as low as I have found with some of the local FB groups I am a member of. Please check out their website because they go to lengths I have never found in a fish retailer. Wow! They have expanded a lot with the freshwater selections which was really nice for us since our family hasn't done any saltwater tanks yet. The aquascapes, wood and rocks all are phenomenal and the fish and coral are all top notch! My wife used some of the wood for her air plants too. Great fish store for both beginners and experienced aquarist! Their fish and corals are healthy and colorful. The prices are usually fair and the staff is extremely helpful. The only issue I had was with the pricing of a rose bubble tip. It was a brighter color so apparently the price was higher "somewhere around 60" with no definite price I felt like they were seeing how much I was willing to pay and I was not pleased with this practice. Over all I really like this store and will continue to shop here for my reef tanks needs. read more

Best saltwater source for information, fish, corals, hardware. We won't shop anywhere else after having another store try to sell us totally inappropriate fish for our tank. Not only are the guys at Nemo's knowledgeable they won't pressure you to buy. When our tank developed a sudden leak they took our fish, shrimp and coral literally with no notice and boarded them for us for over five weeks til our new tank came in and cycled. They will do free water checks and we were able to get our new tank through them for less than buying online with shipping. Prior to starting my tank, i attempted to research by visiting Fintastic, however was immediately turned off by their pushy, used car dealership mentality. Shortly after, I visited Nemo's and explained my basic setup plan & concerns, Kevin (owner) helped me setup a beautiful tank based on my vision and custom needs and gave great advice. 12 year old purchased two fish and two pieces of coral to add to established tank full of fish and coral. Water tested perfect. All items were drip acclimated. One of the fish was fine but the other fish, a flame angel, swam around in circles at the top of the tank and the net day was found laying at the bottom of the tank. Attended Nemo's reef and they would not provide an in store credit for the fish. One of the coral had some skeleton showing and salesperson said it was not brown jelly or damage and coral was fine. Purchased on the advise of the sales person. After a week the tentacles around the skeleton were receding and coral is clearly slowly being eaten up. Called Nemo's reef and was told you loose even though we relied on the opinion of the sales person. Not cool. We have purchased over $500 of rock, coral and fish at Nemo's. They do not value customers. I wonder about the health of the livestock at Nemo's reef. Hit or miss. read more

I've been a customer since I started in the Saltwater hobby - 7 months ago. They have always been so helpful and friendly as I continued to learn. I started with a Biocube 32 and within 6 months, I was ready for a Red Sea Reefer 170. I wouldn't go anywhere else for the build and install of my new aquarium. Kevin Su was very helpful throughout the process while Kevin Luc, the owner, paid such wonderful attention to detail on the sump build. You can really tell the passion that he has on building and then taking the time to set it up and explain everything to me. What I have is an amazing piece of living artwork in my home.
