Bait and switch tactics…read more I spent 8 hours contacting this dealer about a vehicle listed around $30,073. After all the back-and-forth, I found the real price was over $37,144 because the advertised "dealer discount" was actually conditional rebates, not a true discount. The pricing is misleading and wasted my time. I was contacted by Allen Reeves and scheduled an appointment that same evening, where I met with salesperson Kevin Shepard. I traveled approximately 175 miles to the dealership with my brother, Lewis. After a test drive, we began discussing the purchase. I informed Kevin that I had pre-arranged financing through Mount Olive Baptist Church Federal Credit Union. He stated the dealership might secure better terms, and I agreed to allow them to try. Due to the three-hour return trip, we agreed to continue the transaction remotely, and I was introduced to finance officer Logan, who discussed loan terms. On January 5, 2026, after the dealership failed to provide acceptable financing, I informed Kevin I would proceed with my credit union and requested a purchase order. When I received it, the vehicle price had increased from approximately $34,000 to about $39,000. When I questioned this, Kevin stated via text that the increase was due to documentation fees and TTL. On January 6, 2026, at 12:47 PM, Kevin sent a message stating: "Your OTD price after Doc Fee and TTL is $39,295.50. This includes all available discounts to you." On January 9, 2026, the dealership and my credit union completed the paperwork, and the vehicle was delivered on January 10, 2026. On February 12, 2026, after not receiving permanent registration, I contacted Kevin, who advised me to contact the DMV. When I contacted the Oklahoma DMV, I was informed I would need to provide the title, proof of purchase, and pay taxes to register the vehicle. This conflicted with my understanding that TTL had been included in my purchase price. Upon reviewing my purchase documents, I confirmed there was no line item showing TTL had been paid. I contacted the dealership and attempted to reach Logan but did not receive a response. On February 16, 2026, I spoke with Jennifer Lamb in the finance department. She stated that when customers use outside financing, the dealership does not pay TTL. This policy had never been disclosed to me. I informed her that I had written confirmation from Kevin stating TTL was included. She requested the messages, which I emailed to her. She stated she would follow up but never returned my call. On February 20, 2026, I left a voicemail and sent a follow-up email. I received no response. On February 24, 2026, I reached Ms. Lamb again and was transferred to her director, who stated there was nothing he could do and redirected me to a sales manager. I was transferred again but did not receive any resolution or follow-up. On March 3, 2026, after continued lack of response, I contacted the dealership again and was informed by a salesperson that the dealership has a policy of increasing the vehicle price by $2,000 if financing is not completed through them. This was the first time this policy was disclosed, despite the dealership's prior knowledge that I intended to use outside financing. Because my temporary registration was about to expire and I needed to remain compliant, I was forced to pay TTL out of pocket. Due to delays caused by the dealership's lack of communication, I also incurred penalties from the State of Texas. My out-of-pocket expenses were: Texas sales tax (6.25%): $2,264.50 Penalties and title transfer fees: $113.23 Registration fees: $78.25 Total: $2,513.98 I believe Norman Hyundai misrepresented the terms of the sale, failed to disclose critical financing-related pricing policies, and did not honor the quoted out-the-door price, which explicitly included TTL in written communication. Additionally, the dealership failed to provide proper documentation or assistance and did not respond to multiple attempts to resolve the issue. Despite repeated efforts over several weeks, I have received no resolution.

The reviews of this dealership made me wary of purchasing a car from here but overall we had a…read morepleasant experience. I want to say up front that we didn't *need* a car, we wanted a car, and I think that really can change the sales dynamic when you can just say, "we're going to go look at other dealerships and vehicles." Which we did after our initial test drive. The pros: -Shawn Ponds was our salesman and was excellent. He knew a lot about the car's features and, unlike other dealerships, took the time to demonstrate what they were, how to use them, and why they were good. He was also honest about which things were Subaru exclusive versus things you'd see on other cars. We had a model in mind that was in transit, and rather than push another car he let us test drive the closest model on the lot and let us know when the other car would be arriving. -After returning to the dealership, mostly because of Shawn, we were allowed to put down a $1000 refundable deposit on the car in transit to hold it. That allowed us to see it in person, test drive it, and decide if we really wanted it without too much obligation. I know not everyone can set aside $1000 to do this, but it was nice to have a way out if we didn't like the vehicle. -The young lady working the front desk was also very kind and was helpful getting us connected to the right people when we called and visited. -On the day we went to pick up the car, I got held over at work and had to move our appointment last minute. They were very accommodating. -Jamal, the finance manager, let us have his office for ten minutes while my spouse and I discussed things to just wrap our head around some of the more confusing aspects of the purchase. Very polite of him and we really appreciated having the time to think. He also helped us get a cashier's check after our bank had closed for the day because there was an issue with a wire transfer. -The products are great. Subarus are just good cars. We were also able to get the low APR financing through Subaru's partnership with Chase which was 4% lower than our credit union could do. That's any Subaru dealership, but worth mentioning. The cons: -At the end of our first visit when we were trying to leave, one of the managers spoke with us and was a much more aggressive sales attitude. He asked specifically what other models we were looking for and asked if we had explored their used options to see if they had those vehicles. It was off putting and we almost didn't come back because of it. -There was confusion with one of the other staff members texting with us about when the car would arrive. Shawn said around April 7th. The other person said it would be closer to the 18th and was adamant about it when questioned. When the car arrived on the 7th like Shawn said, we had to move a lot of things around to make our appointment work that week. -The warranty process was overwhelming and felt rushed. This is not the fault of the finance manager. He did a great job explaining the different options, what the total cost of each was, how much it would add to each payment if we financed, and how our payments would look with interest over different terms. But Subaru giving literature that has hundreds of line items printed small, each with different prices, thrust upon you right before purchase sucks. Additionally, the coverage if you don't buy a warranty only being 1-year is pretty crummy and I hope they fix that in the future. -They offered a really low trade-in value on our old car. When we mentioned we had a higher quote from Carmax they said they couldn't match it. Carmax gave us $2300 more than Cavender offered. I've never had a great experience at a car dealership. It is always stressful and tiring. But of the multiple cars I've purchased in my lifetime, this transaction was the easiest. I really hope the rest of the team understands that our salesman and his demeanor was the reason for us returning though and drop some of the more aggressive sales tactics.

I bought my Subaru in Louisiana where I live. I was up in Norman and noticed that one tire kept losing air (very slow leak). Hmmm, probably a nail in the tire. I don't know any of the tire places around Norman and I saw Cavender and thought "why not?". My home Subaru dealer does tires so they should be able to as well. Caveat with Subarus - they are All Wheel Drive (which is a good thing) but it means that all the tires need to be about the same circumference or it causes premature wear on the differentials and transmission. You can't buy just one new tire or two and put them on with other tires that are worn. If/when you lose one tire you have to replace all four. So, Cavender could easily have pushed me into buying four tires and they didn't. They found a small nail (as expected) and were able to plug the hole rather than replace the tire (and its three brothers). Even better, they wrote it off as a Courtesy and didn't charge me a penny. I was shocked. The staff were friendly and were sympathetic to my plight, being on the road traveling. I may never go back that way again, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back to these guys if I ever need to. Big thanks from a stranded traveler!
