This was such a great experience from start to finish. From placing a reservation online to getting set quickly upon arrival. The server's were all so attentive and the food was TOP NOTCH. What really made the experience memorable was when Cynthia can't by to ensure we enjoyed our meal and had a great conversation with my friend who is also from Puerto Rico. This was so personable and such good food that it will now be a regular brunch spot that I'll introduce folks to when I'm visiting Chicago. YUM!!! read more

This place is great!!! I've gone plenty of times and it's very consistent. I would definitely recommend the "bistec encebollado" and the "yucca fries". These plates are the best! The service is great although it may take a little while for food to come out when they are packed. That being said, your food will come out fresh and hot, so it's worth the wait! I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

We hired Nellie's to do the catering for our wedding in September 2016. It was at another location, but they made it incredibly easy for us. They deliver the food and two trips so that it would be fresh and warm when needed to be served. Even more, they were kind and professional during the process of planning, helping figure out the amounts that were appropriate and working with us for our price range. You could tell they really wanted us to have a great, or a free day. And everybody was raving about the food for weeks after the wedding! We are thankful for a great day, and for the part millennium played in making it happen.and we will definitely keep coming for brunch! read more

Nellie's just did a great job of catering our party for 100 people even though we hired them 3 days before the event. They were very professional to deal with, quickly sent all necessary documentation to the venue and arrived on time. The food was great and received many compliments from our guests. Many Puerto Rican restaurants we contacted did not have the proper licenses/insurance to take on catering jobs and we fired one who said they did, but were not competent enough to provide copies for the venue. Nellie's is a place you can count on to cater authentic Puerto Rican food. read more

First off, let me say that the place looks like it used to be a bar. No wait at 10am on a Sunday morning, though, so that was good. And lots of families were seated around the restaurant. There is a buffet in the back that many seemed to opt for. I had the breakfast special and it was accompanied by a cup of coconut oatmeal. The oatmeal with a dash of cinnamon was different and tasty, definitely something to try if you're here, but it was a little lukewarm for my taste. The omelet came with sweet plantains in it which was unusual. I didn't care much for the garlic toast. Service was average. Overall, it was okay...I guess I was hoping for more? But if you're in the mood for a unique breakfast, this may be the place for you. read more

Not impressed. Sadly, every time I try a new Puerto Rican place, I always end up disappointed. Service was average; atmosphere boring; food mediocre; buffet a joke. Was expecting the oatmeal to be 'wow', and it was just ok. Definitely not a place I would visit again. read more

3 stars because it's clean, good service, good coffee, and quiet. The food was mostly unimpressive. The oatmeal was OK but kinda bland. The house omelette was plain, and the grilled chicken salad was unremarkable. Probably won't make it a point to go back. read more

Outstanding! The best breakfast I have ever had. Went with Nellie's special with the Avena de Coco. Mouth watering and plentiful. The espresso coffee (Bustelo), Cafe con leche, was just like Mom make's, had four cups. If you go you have to try the Avena de coco, it truly is as great as everyone here says. Wow, definitely my new breakfast joint. Also, five stars for service, our server was very friendly and kept the coffee coming. read more

Pretty good. Had the brunch buffet, but I think they up'd the price for Mother's Day-lame. I have a soft spot for sweet plantains and flan which they had unlimited quantities of. read more

This is truly a hidden gem ! I have gone here quite a few times and it just gets better each time. Best deal is the buffet brunch. Food is great and service was outstanding. Shout out to the servers Ashley and Eddie always know what I'm going to order. read more

I wanna give this place a better review because their food is great and the gentleman that makes their omelettes is cool and funny, but their table service SUCKS. Their waiters are consistently neglect my table. The male waiters only come by when I'm with a woman, otherwise they don't come by at all. I have never had a refill on water, coffee, juice, etc without having to ask several times. Idk why, and I genuinely love this place, but like many locally owned establishments in Humboldt Park, if you don't know someone who is friends with the staff, prepare to be neglected and have the slowest service possible. read more

This is temporarily closed. We tried calling and phone wasn't working. Usually the Avena de coco and Maduros are super yummy!

The food at this place is phenomenal. The coconut oatmeal is just as delicious as everyone says it is - portions are big and prices are very cheap. You have to be prepared to deal with a loud, chaotic environment in there, and the service is slow and lacking in charm - probably not somewhere to bring your grandma visiting from out of town. If you're good with dealing with all of that though, you're in for a great meal. Get there early or make a reservation. We got there at about noon on a Sunday and fortunately had a reservation, because the wait time was an hour and a half. read more

Ordered here for Christmas Catering. The Yuca con mojo was the best I've ever had. It was the first thing gone at Christmas dinner. Don't skip the coconut flan either. Before picking up our order we had to indulge in some lattes and Avena. Best.Avena.Around. read more

While the food is good, I'm still confused as to why I waited 40 minutes for a carry out egg and cheese sandwich. I could have walked to the store and made my own sandwich in this time. read more

Great food. Fast service. Awesome art. Friendly staff. We will be back and will order the mofongo again!

Ugh! I cannot say enough great things about this place. My husband and I have gone here only twice, but it is the creme de la creme of Humboldt park. Their avena de coco is amazing. #drools read more

This was a great find. We went for Saturday brunch. My wife had scrambled egg whites, which she said were The Best! I had poached eggs and toast which were also perfectly prepared. Cute decor, interesting art on the walls. Our server was an older gentleman who was both polite and attentive. We will definitely be back. read more

Overall, Nellie's is a great neighborhood spot. IF I lived in the area or if I found myself in the area again, I'd be happy to go back to Nellie's for a casual, quiet breakfast or lunch. I'd give it more stars, but the service was pretty awful. When we walked in on a Saturday late morning, there were only two other tables occupied. There was no one to greet us.... no one behind the bar area... we were a little confused. Hmmm... to seat ourselves or not?? After a minute or two, because still no one came, we walked to a table and sat down. Service was SLOW. We waited a while before getting menus... then waited again before having our orders taken.... then waited a while before getting food... People at our table had to ask for things they ordered that were forgotten to be brought out. The waits were sort of unacceptable considering there was really no one in the restaurant!! That being said, we all enjoyed our meals and would go again if we were in the neighborhood. Portions were large and tasty. We left full and happy. read more

We did Sunday brunch which was really good. While some prefer to hit the urban trendy spots for brunch, where lines are wrapped around the corner and parking is tight, Nellie's offers excellent parking, no lines, no wait (although the there are plenty patrons) and a great mix of ethnic cuisine. My kids call the oatmeal "porridge" because of our island roots, regardless, the oatmeal is really fabulous. Be sure to try it. The house potatoes rock as well as the maduros. This is our old neighborhood so its like coming back home to good Puerto Rican food. I've seen the comments on service, but we were waited on by at least three servers who were all friendly and responsive. Affordable, friendly and fabulous food. read more

Awesome breakfast buffet, particularly if you're as big a fan as I am of fried plantains... Service was adequate, but not great, but the quality of the food more than makes up for slow-ish service for plate clean-up and beverage refill. read more

OMG! Just got home from there and its amazing! The breakfast buffet is great and you have to absolutely try the oatmeal, Puerto Rican style! Can't wait to go back! read more

Nellie's is definitely a popular stop along Division Street. If you get there at 11:30am like we did on a Sunday, you come after a swarm of patrons flood the entire restaurant. I ended up getting the buffet option for about $15. The best thing Nellie's can offer is their coconut oatmeal-- it is the best oatmeal I ever had in my entire life. Other than that, their food is good but not mind-altering delicious. Would I go back again? Only if it were convenient for me to go and if I went with someone that really wanted to try it out. Again, their oatmeal is amazing but the other things I had at there were mediocre. read more

Came here with a groupon having heard good things! They deserved that praise plus some more here. Service- Very funny waitress who kept us in good spirits. Consistent attention! Price- A little on the high end, with a groupon it is perfect though. It was $28.00 for two, but we did also order a side and fresh OJ. Food- So delicious. I had the breakfast special and my fiance' had a sandwich. Everything was delicious. I too am a believer in their coconut oatmeal. Also if you go, get a side of plantains, they are so delicious. Atmosphere- Pleasant and warm--still had some Christmas decorations up. Neighborhood is so-so. Wait- Minimal, which is impressive because they looked BUSY. I mean when we opened the door the line went to it. We got a table maybe two minutes later. Fabulous job managing the flow of people guys! We will be back either soon with a groupon or in a while without. If you're contemplating whether to go or not, stop, just go, you will be glad you did! read more

Love that this place is in my neighborhood. I've been here several times, and have never been disappointed. The food is great and consistent, just like the service. The coconut oatmeal is what they are famous for, but I have to say I love the breakfast potatoes and the pancakes. The prices are very reasonable too! I've only been here for breakfast and it is one of my favorite spots by far. read more

They have a buffet breakfast that includes pancakes, oatmeal de coco etc.. so good!

It was good. I had a jubarito and husband has breakfast. I don't give it five start because breakfast was expensive for the amount they give. I would just go for lunch. Service was great. They make you feel welcome. Very nice place . read more

That avena de coco is delicious! The buffet options are all delicious and great if you want to try a little bit of everything. Great for indecisive people like myself! read more

THEY HAVE THE BEST BREAKFAST BUFFET ON THE WEEKEND!! Amazing coffee too and an amazing omelet chef where you can put any veggies, meat, and cheeses you desire. The workers are very friendly too. I haven't had they're true meals, just the buffet but I can't think that their meals wouldn't be great too. read more

I heard about this place from a friend and was told to go for my Puerto Rican food fix. They do not disappoint! We went on a Sunday and had a great time. The wait staff were attentive. The food was delicious. I cannot wait to return for more oatmeal and Plantains. It brought me back to my Nana's house where this food was the staple. Thanks for a great time. read more

Excellent! Excelente comida. Recomiendo el menú de desayuno. Fui con unas amigas americanas y pedimos varios platos para probar. Nos encanto el Nellie's Special. We recommend this place. From all the Puertorrican places we search we nailed our search to only three places and this was one of them. Great service, bottomless coffee, AWESOME coconut oatmeal. I've asked a bunch of questions about the food, recipes....to the waitress and she was very nice and helpful. Thanks Maria read more

Neither occasion we came to Nellie's were we greeted. First time we waited 15 minutes and left because they seemed to be struggling with accommodating all their customers. Second time we arrived and the place was empty and we still weren't greeted. Long story short... Our coffee was burnt, my pancakes were tough. If you don't like eggs this isn't the place for you. 90% of their menu is some variation of egg. We were approached to see if we were ok - by a waiter who was on his cell phone at the time... Pretty bizarre experience! I give it one star.. Because the oatmeal was quite good. Although nothing to write home about read more

Still five stars in my book. My husband and I are big fans of Puerto Rican food and have tried almost all the restaurants in Humboldt Park and this one surpasses most of them in terms of breakfast and lunch items. See my previous review for their breakfast special (avena de coco is the best!) and they also have excellent jibarito sandwiches, mofongo stuffed with steak, and sweet plantains. If you've ever had mofongo before you know it can sometimes be dry, but not Nellie's. Hers is just right and the steak is out of this world. So moist and flavorful. Service is always friendly and efficient even when the restaurant is busy. If you like Puerto Rican food, Nellie's should be one of your destinations. read more

Went there for breakfast with a really good friend of mine. I had the Coqui Scramble, which consisted of eggs, avocado, veggies and bacon, with a side of home potatoes. My buddy had the coconut oatmeal. Not only did I max my plate, I tried some of her oatmeal, also, and it was fantastic! Everything was super delicious. The service was not particularly solicitous, however they did a good job ensuring my coffee was refilled (which is a MUST for me lol). I can't wait to go back and take my hubby with. read more

I went here twice for breakfast and lunch in one day. That's how much I love Nellie's. I called in my lunch order and they were efficient and courteous on the phone. A big plus for me. I had that yummy coconut-cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast. For the larger size, it is way too small and overpriced. I could have easily eaten 2 but I'm not spending $9 for oatmeal. For lunch I had the knock my socks off chicken jibarito and maduros. They give you SO much rice/beans to go with it. What a filling, worth every penny meal. I have had the mofongo on another occasion and it was just OK. Unimpressive. read more

I took my family for Sunday brunch. It took 45 minutes to bring out eggs, 2 omelets and pancakes. Even then, the last omelet came out 10 minutes after the first. Originally I ordered the buffet, but they weren't refilling the empty trays (of bacon and other food) for extended periods. The omelette guy was very slow and then over cooking all of the eggs. The staff was very nice, but inattentive. Zero stars for service. read more

Every thing was great. We had the breakfast buffet. Only negative, they ran out fruit. Excellent customer service!!!

Food was COLD My eggs were terrible!!! Waiting about an hour for our food and 1 of our other orders was not what we asked for .
