So this isn't your normal review....I didn't end up going. But that's not the entire story...I reserved a table some time ago for Neighbors and Friends and I was extremely excited to go this weekend. But, suddenly I found in my inbox that my reservation had been canceled. I was notably bummed due to the fact that I was super excited to try them out. But...then I got an e-mail. That e-mail was from the owner who explained the reason that my reservation was canceled and offered a nice bit of compensation. My review is a placeholder, but I wanted to give Neighbors & Friends their flowers for this, not many restaurants honor their reservations (especially since it was a table for 1) but give something back is beyond expectation. We had a terrible experience at this place. We waited nearly an hour to get five sandwiches and two salads to go! The staff was completely unresponsive and unhelpful, or apologize for the wait. We originally wanted to dine in, but after waiting so long, we couldn't wait to leave. We will never return to this place and will tell our neighbors & friends not to go! The birthday girl, who had specifically come to try the croissants and devil eggs, had to re-order twice because they were out of stock. They also made a mistake with our sandwich order. The prices were also way too high for the quality and portions. To top it off, they served people who were behind us in line before us. I've been to Neighbors & Friends a handful of times for a charcuterie board and have always enjoyed them. Those past positive experiences, a kind staff and well cultivated environment is why this is not a 2 star review. Tuna melt 1/5 I'll start with saying it was fresh off the press so I'm unsure how it became so wet so quickly. The bread was floppy and sad, the best part of a tuna melt is the satisfaction of biting into crunchy bread and enjoying its contrast with the tuna. For $15 I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Charcuterie board 5/5 Maybe I'll come back for this again... after this past lunch, maybe not. Not to mention my order was made incorrectly, even after confirming at the pick up area if the sandwich was indeed mine. I had to drive back, find parking, pay 50 cents and walk a few blocks for it to be remade. Everyone makes mistakes but this was just the cherry on top for me. It's was good while it lasted! To reply to the owner- you're right, I mistakenly assumed this was the same business that sold me the matcha latte, I removed that to accurately reflect the trip. My husband and I stopped by spontaneously for a light meal. We were pleased with our experience. Deviled Egg Stuffed Croissant: fresh croissant stuffed with a dill and tarragon egg salad, garnished with fresh dill. The croissant was super buttery and flaky, while the egg salad was rich and creamy. I really liked the contrast of the egg filling and the pastry. Roasted Chick: a gourmet sandwich with roasted chicken, mango lemon jam, arugula, and garlic herb aioli on a milk bun. Wow, the mango lemon jam tasted amazing. While this place is known for their beautiful charcuterie boxes, they're also a solid spot for brunch as well. My wife and I visited right at their opening hours on a weekend and it was such a good experience. It's more of a order then sit down type spot. They have some tables but not too many. Parking here in Pasadena is as usual, mainly just parking in paid garages, metered street parking. My wife and I ordered the Deviled egg stuffed croissant and the Roasted Chick Sandwich to share and the orders came out pretty quickly. There's not much service other than that, staff is friendly which is great to see at least. The croissant is very tasty. However, it's pretty messy to eat as you can't really eat it neatly. The croissant itself is pretty standard, not too tough and the egg is soft which is the best part. 8/10, recommend The Roasted Chick Sandwich on the other hand is a great sandwich. I'd never had mango jam in a sandwich like this so this is a first experience. It's a bit....interesting? It's savory yet a bit sweet so if you're a fan of that type of taste, then I highly recommend this. It's tasty regardless. The chicken mixes surprisingly well with the mango which is nice. 8/10, recommend Overall, a decent brunch spot, saw plenty signs for their charcuterie boards/boxes so I'm definitely interested in returning to check those out. Neighbors & Friends Cafe is an absolute neighborhood gem. The space is so thoughtfully designed. Bright , charming, and effortlessly aesthetic without feeling overdone. It has that perfect cozy-meets-cute vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. The staff was wonderful across the board, and Nicole was so kind, welcoming, and attentive. Great service really makes a place memorable, and she definitely added to the experience. As for the food, everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the prices were surprisingly good for the quality. I ordered the Grump sandwich and it was SOOO YUMMY. The bread was unbelievably soft and fresh, and the ingredients were flavorful, high-quality, and just plain delicious. You can really taste the care in the food. Love finding places like this that have great energy, great service, and food that actually lives up to the aesthetic. What a wonderful little find on our Pasadena foodie adventure! There were 10 of us who popped into Neighbors and Friends unexpectedly, and the entire team made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. Nichole, Noah, and Will were fantastic up front, and Kyle was working his magic in the back. The team was completely on it, getting our drinks and food out to us as they were ready, chatting with us, and making our rather large group feel right at home in this cute café. And, of course, the food and drinks were delicious! I especially loved the deviled egg stuffed croissant and my Arnold Palmer. This is such a great spot in old town for delicious sandwiches, coffee and beautiful cheese boards. We tried their brisket breakfast sandwich, caprese and fat piggy and they were all amazing - crisp bread, fresh ingredients and filling. The Vietnamese coffee, cafe de olla and cappuccino all hit the spot as well. It's a small unassuming storefront but there is lots of seating inside. The staff are friendly and there is such a cozy vibe. It is amazing how they are community oriented and support local businesses as well as provide a space for the community to meet. Funny, I wasn't planning on coming here but we were in the area and the neighbors and friend instagramming had gotten my attention so I booked marked them. As it turns out they were very close to some Korean shaved ice we came over to get. Shaved ice store didn't open for another hour so we decided to grab lunch. When we walked up there was a table set up outside and people asked us if we wanted free coffee and pastries. Um heck yeah! So we got those in addition to sandwiches. These guys are super nice! Super quick and they asked if we would like refills on our ice tea. I like a place that stays on top of a beverage refill. We sat at a big communal table and enjoyed our coffees, pastries and sandwiches. Everything was delicious! I had a BLTA and it was on some really fresh focaccia bread! Pretty solid sandwich spot and very cute place to hang out with friends. They even have board / table games you can play. The concept of community is quite unique with the shared table and space, although there are a few individual tables if you want 1:1 space with someone else. I came here for the Dine LA special, which is a great deal for brunch with one main + drip coffee for $15! The Two Ladies Avo Toast is quite impressive in size and flavorful. I ended up having to eat with a fork because it's hard to grab but otherwise a unique concept and quite tasty. What a local gem!! I stopped by today for a productive study session and was so pleased by the delicious coffee and warm atmosphere. My coffee order was simple-- a hot latte--but it was so delicious. It's a great space to study with fast Wi-Fi and outlets but it's also great for meeting up with a friend and eating what looks to be some delicious sandwiches. We were basically left sitting there wondering if they had completely forgotten about us. On top of that, they ran out of ingredients AND somehow managed to serve people who ordered AFTER US before we got our food. At that point, what exactly are you doing back there? Whoever was working Sunday afternoon, August 23rd, seriously needs to be retrained or replaced because this level of service is embarrassing. If you can't handle three sandwiches and two salads in under an hour while communicating with your customers, you should not be running a restaurant. I genuinely NEVER leave reviews. Besides writing positive reviews to help a business, writing negative reviews seems unnecessary to me. Simply delicious! When we first looked at the menu, the sandwiches sounded very simple but when we actually tasted it, the flavors were surprisingly very complex and delicious. We tried the Deviled egg croissant sandwich, Grilled cheese with pear and caramelized onion, and the Roasted chick sandwich. The croissant was delicious and the way the egg salad was placed in the croissant allowed you to fully enjoy the croissant without it getting soggy. The flavors in the other 2 sandwiches were spot on, with the right balance of sweet and savory. We really enjoyed all 3 sandwiches. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. They even gave us a free sample of their Figgy Piggy breakfast Sammie which was also very tasty. There were ample seats available when we got there around 11:30 on a Sunday morning. Was able to stop by again right before they closed at 3pm! I got the individual size box and it was enough for myself for lunch on the go! So beautifully designed - they got it down to a science now! The box contained a good variety of cheese (4 total) and fruit (strawberry, orange which was so sweet!, blueberries, blackberries, kiwi, dried apricot), pistachios, mini pickles, a little bit of honeycomb and olives. I don't usually like olives but I liked these ones! They're green and have a bite to them. Crackers is an additional cost depending which one you pick so total price for my box with tip was around $30. I left this in the fridge to enjoy the next day out and it traveled pretty well! Looking forward to coming back and trying more items here. They also have an LA Community Fridge for those in need and various local brand goodies to purchase too. This cafe is an absolute gem, and the owner, Kaiy, is freakin' AMAZING! I stopped in the day of my sister's birthday to grab a charcuterie box for our Erykah Badu concert celebration, and she could not have been more helpful. She walked me through all the options, helped me choose the perfect box, and even gave recommendations on how to enjoy everything. The box itself was incredible. The honey was next-level, and she put me onto Profanity Habanero Jam, which I am still obsessed with. If you're ever in a pinch or planning in advance and need a charcuterie box same day or another, this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed. The roasted chick was so basic- some chicken (which was good quality) slapped on a basic bun with some sweet sauce on it- won't get again. The turkey club was nice, again it's a deli sandwich with deli meat; it did have a decent amount of avocado so I appreciated that. The first time I went the service was friendly and outgoing. The second time I went they were cold and rude, it was like my being there was inconveniencing them. Went to this place on a Friday just to purchase a cheese board to go for a picnic. They had very quick service and prepared a cheese board for me instantly. There was an option of just cheese vs. cheese with deli meats. It honestly had amazing toppings for a charcuterie board which included a variety of fruits, cheeses, honeycomb, and pickles. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety and would come back again for the convenience. Usually I would create my own charcuterie board for picnics but this place allows me to have a lot of variety without purchasing a lot of extra cheese and fruit from a grocery store.
