With such a great program I wonder why more people are not signing up. My journey began in 2013. With a child on the way and hopes of achieving the American dream I went to my first NACA Workshop. I sat there for a few hours collected the information and walked away thinking that there's more I needed to do to clean up my credit report before I can start the process. So I did just that, just to go back to NACA in 2015 with a great credit score and speak with my first counselor in the Hawthorne office and find out that a lot of the things that I cleaned up we're already on its way to fall off of my credit report and was unnecessary to clean up for this program. The first year with NACA was pretty sketchy and I was ready to throw in the towel on more then one occasion, often wondering if the dream of becoming a homeowner in California was just that, a dream. But I stuck in there with the encouragement of friends that I've met along the way that have also gone through the NACA process, and today I must say that I'm glad I did. At one of my workshops that I volunteered I heard the testimony of of Rod Shears who just a year ago purchased a fourplex with $800,000 of financing from NACA at a 2.7 interest rate which is almost unbelievable. I then met Mr. Virgil Flowers of the Upland office. If you've ever had the pleasure of attending a workshop that he spoke at you'll forever remember the name. I asked Mr. Flowers if he would come down to LA on a radio show that I host to discuss NACA it in detail and he agreed. And on a Tuesday night at 7 p.m. all the way from Upland California to Los Angeles and he sat with us for two hours and he explained in detail and answered all of our stupid questions regarding the home buyers process and while some of my co-host were in disbelief of the information they were hearing and challenged his every comment. Virgil flowers was gracious enough to continue to sit with us and explain in detail the process and the benefits as well as why NACA was started in the first place to help people like us. During that conversation I begin to understand and appreciate the counselors at NACA for the hard work and determination that they go through every single day to help people that they hardly even know. I was amazed to find out that the counselors at NACA were few in number for each office and work very hard everyday to help millions of people in such a large area, I began to understand why it was important to get my paperwork in on time when my counselors ask for it and appreciate the moments that they put in to help me achieve my dream. Which leads me to my counselor Miss Monique Lee who has to date been the best counselor I've ever worked with at NACA. She is always prompt, very knowledgeable of the process, and is great at staying in communication rather over the phone or through email. These last few months have moved very quickly and I can almost see the finish line in the distance. So if you've been thinking about attending a NACA Workshop, if you've been wondering if it's worth it, and if you have the time. I will answer to all those questions, yes. There's just a couple things that I will advise, if you don't think that your finances are strong enough, your credit report is good enough, or you're just not ready to go through the process, go anyways and let one of the financial professionals at NACA tell you what you need to do to be a successful homeowner through this program but it all starts with you. read more

I have read good and bad things about the NACA program, since I have gone thru the program I can share this with you. I started this program October 2017 & today April 2018... I'm in escrow buying a 4 unit building....yes (4) units . I work in a call center so buying a building is only a dream.... but again I AM IN ESCROW and thrilled with my low interest rate!!!!! The NACA program is not perfect...But it's an great program! You need No Down Payment, there is no pmi insurance, you pay no points or fees, the Mortgage Counselors work with you getting your credit together to become a Homeowner. But you have to want it people, nothing this good comes that easy. The Naca program is not meant for everyone....people that give up easy... this is not the program for you.... but if you want to be a homeowner... I mean really want it and willing to work the program you will become a home owner. Now it is very important to get the right Mortgage Counselor. My Mortgage Counselor Sharon Muoghala-Bogney was amazing! She took time to answer every email, every concern, every question.... when I know she did not have time. Ms. Sharon is so professional and more importantly, very knowledgeable. I can't say enough good things about Ms. Sharon, she always made sure I fully understood every step of the entire process. I can be bit pushy ...lol... but she was so patient with me. She was always so sweet and helpful and quick to remind me of dates and documents that were needed. Again, I could go on and on about her....Thank you Ms Muoghala-Bogney for being so amazing! I also have to give a shout out to the entire Upland office from the Receptionist who was always in a great mood making the office feel warm to Mr Flowers the office Manager! My name is Mr. Godfrey and an acquaintance referred me to the NACA program, that of which I've never heard of. Upon attending a workshop I was immediately intrigued by what NACA had to offer. I was all in. After my orientation and acceptance by NACAs criteria, I ventured on looking for my home. It was relayed to me an in-house agent was preferable because they were all knowing about the parameters of NACA. I elected Mr. Frank Rios to help and represent me in my escapade. Mr. Rios was my Ace in hand. My only gripe was his punctuality of time. Being that was miniscule of Mr. Rios' performance as a whole, overall he was an extremely effective agent. I can't emphasize effective enough. He went above and beyond that was required of him and he definitely helped explain each step of the NACA mortgage process all the way through. Also Ms. Angelica Vargas, my mortgage counselor was a very helpful and effective person as well. Well in consideration when I could finally get a returned call or update, but I always had to presume these good folks were working on many mortgages at once, spred thin and weren't waiting hand and foot on my account lol. My overall experience with NACA was pretty good, especially landing a 1.25% interest rate! I was able not not only utilize the bank buydown, but the W.I.S.H. Grant as well. This grant let me utilize a 1:4 ratio buydown meaning 4$ to every one of my $1. That being said NACA takes a really long time, I mean a REALLY LONG time but when the dust settles all the headaches are well worth it. Patience is a virtue. We started our journey with NACA by attending the workshop on December 9, 2017. We had our first intake meeting with our counselor Sharon Bogney on December 27, 2017. There is ALOT of paperwork required, so if you aren't organized, you should start organizing your check stubs, bank statements, tax returns, rental receipts, etc. Every month we were required to send in check stubs, bank statements and any statements from an open credit card. We had already started preparing prior to NACA so when I met with our counselor I pretty much had everything together. The most important thing I can tell you is to stay vigilant. Check your webfile several times a day and get your counselor what she/he needs ASAP. It will only benefit you. When Sharon asked for something, in most cases I was able to get it to her the same day, or early the next. The other biggie, is a BUDGET. You don't know how much you spend you actually have to do a budget. I found that we spent a lot of money eating out. So, that was an area I worked to minimize. If you don't have a savings account, I suggest you open one. We had a savings account, but NACA required us to put additional monies aside to cover the difference between what we were currently paying for rent and what our mortgage would be. NACA will not allow you to get into a home that you cannot afford. The rules may seem strict, but it is for your benefit. After six months, my husband and I closed on a 5 bedroom, 2 bath home in Rialto! We pay $328 more than what we were paying for rent! Let me tell you, this program works and though at times it was quite stressful, it was all worth it. I wake up every day thanking God for our beautiful new home! read more

We began our NACA process on July 2017 and we closed escrow on a home on September 2019. Keep in mind that NACA is a nonprofit organization and it will take YEARS for you to get your home, BUT it does WORK. Our two lengthy years through the NACA process involved several stages 1.) Intake Preparation, 2.) Qualification Process, 3.) Housing Search, 4.) Bank Submission, and 5.) Mortgage Process. Our Mortgage Counselor, Drusilla Jones, assisted us throughout the process as she arranged monthly appointments and worked on our file. After one year and a half we were qualified (completed stage 2) and ready to start stage three, the housing search. We had Frank Rios, a NACA in house agent help us search for our home since April 2019. I am in the beginning stages of my home buying journey. I first heard about NACA through a friend of mine who was going to lose his house. Naca helped him get back on track and keep the house! So far I am still gathering the many documents needed. My counselor Sharon is excellent, fast and direct. I have already found the home I want so I think it's just a matter of time and paperwork and meetings with Sharon before the dream becomes reality. It is my understanding that if your counselor knows the ropes, is organized and works well with clients, things will move forward in a reasonable amount of time. If the counselor is not organized, things could hypothetically take forever. Documents become outdated within 30 days and then need to be re-submitted. So far, I have no complaints and am thrilled that NACA is on my side, helping me become a home owner. MANY THANKS, NACA! my reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that I was kept waiting over 30 minutes (i was the only one in the waiting room) and no one letting me know what the delay was. i finally went to the receptionist and was told rather rudely to sit down and wait some more. i was then called in to my appointment within the next 10 minutes. i felt a lack of concern for my time and a slight lack of professionalism with the lateness and lack of communication between office, client and counselor. read more

I'm currently in the process of applying for a mortgage loan with NACA. I was referred by a couple of my co-workers who had gone through NACA and I decided to check out one of their workshops which happened to be located in Rancho Cucamonga. I took a friend with me and we couldn't believe what NACA had to offer! I also had the opportunity to speak with one of their Mortgage Consultants, Sharon Bogney. She took the time to answer all of my questions without rushing me despite the long line of people behind me waiting to speak to her too during the workshop. Sharon was patient, polite, and knowledgeable. I knew right away that I wanted Sharon to assist me if I were to continue with the next steps of the NACA process. Towards the end of the workshop we were given the option to make a face to face appointment with a Mortgage Consultant. I requested to meet with Sharon of course! I met with her to review my documents and must say that she is attentive, informative, and made me feel very comfortable. She's been so easy to work with! Sharon is very caring and responsive. Still in the process of trying to get our loan. I have had 3 counselors so far. my first counselor I never talked to, My second counselor quit on my second meeting and I was emailed by an admin Cecilia Rodriguez that stated on an email that she re-scheduled my appointment and I have a date and time set but did not put a date and time on the email. I called the help line and was put on hold after I explained what happened, a few minutes passed and was then made aware that no time or re-schedule date was set for me and will need to wait for a email that will have my new counselor. Note this all happened back in September and now its November. I've had my third counselor meeting and I was not expecting to start my action plan over to the beginning but understood that every counselor has their own method of doing their work. So far my third counselor who is Sharon Bogney, has been extremely helpful and is in constant communication with me which is by far what I appreciate the most out of any one or any company I do business with. Me and my husband heard about the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America program we were a little skeptical at first about the good stories we heard, so we had to find out for ourselves. So we attended the workshop first and then we got our appointment to speak to speak to a Counselor and we were assigned to Sharon Bogney in the Upland office and from the start she was very professional, helpful, willing to guide us through our requirements and every step we needed to complete our paperwork to be qualified to become a first time home buyer. As a Counselor Sharon Bogney knows what it takes to help people that are willing to be helped to become homeowners we recommend her as your counselor and we recommend the program to everyone who wants to purchase a home. As a happy couple we are on the way to purchase our first home. We are satisfied of the Professional treatment that we experienced from Sharon Bogney and all the people at NACA that makes the dream of purchasing a home a reality. I began the Naca program January of 2016. My auntie bought a condo through Naca. After I realized what they did for her I wanted to try it out. I was worried when I started because I had many bills and didn't have any money saved in an account. Despite how I felt the Naca program worked with me. I felt I joined the program to early but if I had not joined so early I wouldn't have gotten my expenses and bills in order. This program was my guide I was told what I needed to do, step by step. The Naca program helped me lower my bills drastically and also helped me build a good savings. As they say in the beginning it is a lot of work but it is so worth it. The program helped me grow and to be more responsible with my money. I currently completed my profile and will be able to submit my documents to the underwriters soon. This program is all about patients, if you can be patient and listen to what they tell you to do, you can be successful in this program. I will be back with another update soon :) read more

We started out NACA journey July 2017 when we attended the home buyers workshop in Rancho Cucamonga. After we attended the meeting we suddenly felt like our dream of becoming first time home buyers could become reality. Shortly after we where assigned to a counselor who worked with us and let us know what we would need to accomplish prior to becoming NACA approved. Over the last few months we have been able to pay off all our debt and started to save so we can buy down our interest rate. In the last month we where assigned to a new Counselor Monique who has been working extremely hard on our file and we could not be more great full ! Thanks to her continued hard work we are on track in submitting our file for approval next week so that we can begin the home buying process! We are unbelievably thankful to have found such a great program and we can't wait to finally become home owners! read more

I knew buying property was a challenging venture. My friend introduced NACA at church & I became a member soon after!! My experience/training at NACA has been priceless!! The financial training, the budgeting tools, the mandatory savings, etc Awesome!! NACA helped me change poor financial habits and the paper work/ deadlines, were on point!! My experience despite grinding work to get approved was good!! We closed in time despite an uncooperative seller!! The catalyst to make this happen is the Mortgage Counselor!! Initially, I was reluctant about NACA because of the stigma that's inherent with most assistance programs. After a few bumps and gaining additional knowledge about the process, I was able to develop a proactive method to navigate the unknown terrain. I know it sounds cliché but I am confident that if you work the system it will work for you. The counselors are knowledgeable and draw on their experience to set a road map to get you to your goal. I am a manager in the construction industry and was one of many people who lost financial footing after being separated from my job five times during the recession. The desire to gain control of my future was stronger than the circumstances around me and that along with programs such as NACA shed much light on my goal to recover. I heard about the NACA program through a couple of my friends and so far this seems to be the best way to go if you are a first time buyer or just anyone really looking to buy a home! My counselor Frank Rios is VERY thorough and VERY professional! Frank makes sure you know and understand everything needed to move forward with the process. As long as you put in the time with your counselor you will be successful in the program! I have literally told at least 5 people who will be signing up for seminars as soon as their schedules permit!! I'm excited to go through this program being a single mother doing it all on my own this was literally a breath of fresh air to know I would not have to come up with 10's of thousands of dollars for a down payment. We have been in the process with NACA since August 2017. We were referred to the program by our family friend and attended the workshop last summer. You have to be prepared and patient with the amount of documents that are needed, but if you follow all the steps, you will successfully get through it. They have recently improved their website and the process of uploading documents much easier and much more organized. We have been lucky to be working with our counselor Ms. Drusilla Jones has been a pleasure, she takes the time to go through all the requirements and keeps us updated as to what is needed to get qualified for a loan. My advice would be to do everything you're asked exactly and be patient. All good things take time.....we are hoping to buy a house for our little family sooner than later. read more
