Our server was very friendly and suggested a couple of cocktails which we've got and then the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer was delicious. All the meals were very good. Historically a favorite, but a series of service lapses this visit I have always loved Nectar Farm and have consistently had great food and experiences here in the past. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was a significant letdown across the board. Despite having a confirmed reservation for a 4-top table indoors, the host was unable to honor it. We were first offered a table outside directly next to a loud band in the hot sun. When I declined, the only other option offered was upstairs. This was quite difficult as two members of my party have mobility issues and struggle with stairs. Once seated, the atmosphere was chaotic due to a large private party sharing the space. The service timing was also off; our main courses arrived less than two minutes after our appetizers. While the food tasted good, the portions were surprisingly small. My fried shrimp entree was a very meager serving--I actually had to eat again shortly after arriving home. To top it off, there was significant confusion with the billing at the end, requiring the server to redo the tickets. I truly hope this was just an "off" night, as the quality of service did not match the reputation I've come to expect from Nectar. read more

I was visiting Bluffton for a family reunion and a lot of us met up here for dinner for the first night being in town. We had a big group, and sat outside. Service was great. It was accurate, good timing, and our server was friendly. There was a singer with a guitar performing too and he was great- our kiddo loved dancing to him. The food itself, wow. I bought a bunch of apps to share with my husband and kid, and all was so delicious . The crab bisque was incredible. Even the simple chocolate cake was SO yummy! Only had one night in Old Town Bluffton and was told this was the place to go. I wasn't super hungry, so I stuck to a variety of appetizers. Hush Puppies were good, quite large and very crispy. The peel and eat shrimp were excellent! They were so tender, not overcooked by even a minute and seasoned perfectly. The tomato hand pie, which I was most excited to try, is the one that disappointed the most. Could be bc tomatoes aren't quite in season yet, and I think they'd be easier to eat if the tomato was sliced, and not diced. But none-the-less a clever and unique add to the menu. I went to Nectar with my lady friend and another couple the other night. I ordered the Surf & Turf Trio. The crab cake was good. The shrimp were OK. My filet mignon which I ordered medium rare was over cooked to the point of being almost well done. I asked for butter for my mashed potatoes, but they were so cold that they did not melt the butter. We've only been twice in the last couple years but it was great both times. Sunday was the second time and we had a party of 10. We were sat quickly inside and kids had their own table next to us. The waitress ( wish I could remember her name), was charismatic, friendly and very attentive. Everyone's food was very good. From omelettes to waffles to crab dip, nothing but good reviews. It's a charming place with indoor seating and a bar you can also eat at. The outside area is large with umbrella tables, live music (not too loud) and a larger bar area. We decided to eat here while walking around Old Town Bluffton. The site is newly remodeled and very stylish. The building used to house a brewery and hamburger restaurant when we last visited the area. We had fried green tomatoes for a starter. We went to Nectar for brunch on Sunday after church. My wife had the southern poutine fries which were delicious. I had the crab cake Benedict which was really good, it had a bit of a spicy kick to it. The place was super busy, but we were seared fairly quickly and our server offered menu suggestions about her favorites which helped me select the Benedict. read more

Both visits they were extremely busy but accommodating to take me and my husband without a reservation. The first visit was a Sunday afternoon and we sat at the bar and had brunch. Being so close in proximity to the bartender the service was phenomenal. Started with a Grapefruit cooler which was made up of Grapefruit Vodka, fresh grapefruit and lemon juice and a splash of soda. Hubby had a Bloody Mary both drinks were above average and literally you could sit and drink all day. I had the salad duo of shrimp and chicken salad. It was fresh and delicious. Hubby had a traditional omelette. Needed something sweet so ordered an ice cream sandwich which consisted of two homemade cookies with freshly made ice cream. Unbelievable delicious and not too sweet, big enough to be shared. Next visit on a Sunday evening after 8 pm and they gave us a table outside in the back. We were forever grateful that we even got a table as they close at 9 pm. I had a Coke this time to drink and even got refills. Hubby had a Miller Lite beer. Surprisingly for him he ordered a beef bowl as he normally doesn't eat salads. I had everything from the first section deviled eggs,fried green tomatoes,hush puppies and a crab cake. If I had to pick a favorite I would pick them ALL! There was a lot of OMG as I was eating as everything tasted so delicious. The Case of the Missing Crab (and the Overcooked Shrimp) My friend took me to Nectar to celebrate my birthday, and we wish we'd gone anywhere else. She ordered the crab, shrimp, and grits -- except the "crab and shrimp" were so scarce they could've been an urban legend. The grits were the only redeeming part of the dish, and even they couldn't save it. I ordered "sautéed" shrimp with rice and roasted vegetables. The vegetables were fine, but the rice was so dry I think it had a past life as yesterday's special. As for the shrimp -- they were rubbery, overcooked, and definitely not sautéed----more like boiled, broiled, and forgotten. It's rare to find a place where both diners leave disappointed -- and on a birthday, no less. If this was their best effort, I shudder to think what the "off" days look like. For what should've been a special meal, it was just plain disappointing. Plenty of better places in town that actually care about what they serve. read more

This is a Hilton Head restaurant which has a second location in Bluffton. It looked like a nice place to eat inside, but it was a holiday and I had places to be so I got an order to go. It was ready in a timely fashion. My local root beer was not a bottle but was in a cup with ice, so thankfully I was there quickly or I would have gotten a flat watery root beer. It was a good quality soda. My quinoa salad with mushrooms was not huge but delivered a range of flavors and a useful nutritional profile hard to find in this geographic area. Indeed, this is one of a finite number of options for the special dietary needs diner, and it is worth looking into if you need the vegan or gluten-free items of which they had several. read more

Your clientele must include a few plant based eaters. Final tip, when young children are there to dine start them with a tiny plate of fresh fruit and veggies, a couple of crackers and water. I sat up at the bar and order a vanilla cold brew to start, which was pretty smooth and enjoyable. For my entree I ordered the Dr.Joe's Duck Hash, as this was something unique. I chose the sweet potato biscuit as my side, which was also unique and good. The eggs were overcooked, but still had good flavor. I didn't ask my server to remake them, but the dish would have been much better with some runny yolks. All in all I would like to come back and try some more of their menu items. This location is my favorite among the two. I like Old Town's vibe and I've never had a bad meal here. Today's challenge was that eating a late lunch (3:30pm) on a holiday meant that much of what we wanted was sold out: no regular biscuits (only sweet potato), no oysters, no tomato hand pies, and the BLT with fried green tomatoes is no longer offered. Ashton was our server, and he did a fabulous job. He was so patient and accommodating with our inquisitive and high-maintenance group of five. He was enthusiastic and the pleasure he takes in his job was evident!! He had great meal recommendations, was efficient, and even though the place was jamming, he was so attentive. The "Bless Your Heat" drink was our go to. If you like tequila and heat with the perfect balance of spice and sweet, I highly recommend this drink! The deviled eggs were the overall favorite of the table, so much so that we had to get a second order, but every dish we tried was great and portions were perfect. After dinner we made our way to the outside bar for one more round, and Ceejay made us feel like we'd been there dozens of times before--she was so warm and welcoming and answered all of our questions about the restaurant and its history. She was awesome! Finally, we met Leksi on our way out, and just like Ashton and Ceejay and the rest of the gang, she made us feel so right at home. She talked with us about the new downtown architecture across the street and you could tell she appreciated the local art as much as we did! The FRG, is that goat cheese?? FGR tomatoes, while not our favorites, we all finished the dish. Now my meal comes to the table, Shrimp & Grits in spicy tomato sauce. Different but I'm willing to try a different spin on a classic dish. They were a little heavy handed with the spicy tomato sauce. Look at my picture, it looks like there is more sauce than grits. I ordered a latte and first it took way too long to receive it and then when I did receive it, it was warm, not hot. I kindly asked for them if they could steam warm it up from the espresso machine, which they did. I was happy with it after they returned it. What was very disappointing was the fact that the manager rolled her eyes at the request, thinking we didn't see her do that. We own a local business and would never do such a thing.
