Soo. I'm sorry to all you main liners but this place is only worth the aesthetic and the drinks. And their bao buns are decent. I wanted to take my gf somewhere nice, because well, she's nice. And also smokin. Why wouldn't I want to show her off? She loved the decor. Loved her drink. And we very much enjoyed the buns (though slightly too fatty). But that's about where it ends. Their fried rice has NO flavor. She's a bit picky so if we go Asian I always make sure there's fried rice. The curried fried chicken on top was tasty and unique, but couldn't save the dish. Then I got the chicken and shrimp wok dish. Definitely too much fish sauce. Not a lot of flavor. And an added present.. Yes I found a long hair. Was not mine, as it was straight, and mine is v curly. Shot happens. I get it, but I can't continue eating after that. So I informed them. They, however, did not go about the situation as one should. So first a woman came up told us none of the chefs have long hair so it could've been them, but she would still take it off the bill. So I said OK, I don't know what you're inferring but whatever. Then our waiter comes back tells us all the chefs have short gray hair, it couldn't have been them. They think it's your hair * point to my girlfriend.* So now this is when I get pissed. First off. I didn't make a scene. I didn't demand a free meal. Why on earth would you everrr go and blame the customer?! She also hates seafood and wanted nothing to do with my dish. This place is truly mediocre, which is a shame because we had such high hopes. The first red flag was the mandatory valet (which could have only been during Valentines week, but still totally unnecessary). While it was complimentary it was laughable, like We weren't fully capable of parking our own car, AND the parking lot was right outside the restaurant, making it even more confusing why a valet could be useful. There were lots of deliciously sounding menu items, we settled on the pork dumplings and the pork buns, the dumplings were just fine. I decided to order a sushi roll because we were at a Japanese restaurant after all... I was intrigued and hoping it would be something amazing but the spicy yellow tail roll was something that you would get from a sushi place under their "basic roll" selection... not something worth nearly $16. Now here is where the worst part happened: We ordered the mooshoo pork dish, while the description included "pancakes", they served us store bought Mission Tortillas. It was insulting. At that point I knew this place just sucked. Also, don't order the deconstructed s'mores unless you want to eat blobs of melted chocolate with a side of freezer burned graham cracker. Another great evening at Nectar. It was a great girls night out & we started with drinks, grapefruit lychee, zen & blood orange martini. Our overall fav was the Zen Martini because it was lite and refreshing, not too sweet. We decided to get the Dim sum for 2. Our least favorite was the dumpling that was deep fried. It had too much breading and I couldn't taste the filling. We split the entrees, chicken pad Thai, moo shu pork & wok tenderloin. The pad Thai was the group's fav but my highlight was the wok tenderloin, the beef was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth. Next time I would like to explore more seafood options. Always a great experience with a feeling of being at a city restaurant but in the burbs. read more

Nectar is a really nice place in the suburbs. We just moved here from Center City and wanted good food that was up to par with our city. It's surprisingly difficult to find a good restaurant on the mainline. I grew up here and returned last year and realized there's no good food anywhere actually. I have known about nectar my whole life but never tried it. I thought Nectar had very good food. It hit the spot and was well done. We were super impressed with the Duck dish (Valentine's Day special) and the spicy tuna roll we got. The dim sum sampler wasn't true dim sum at all, disappointing. BUT the DUMPLINGS on it tasted very good. I felt the spring roll was not worth it at all. We tried the shareable saffron rice with crispy chicken and it was good. I think crispy chicken at any Asian restaurant is typically not very good. But the rice was good , maybe could've had more flavor. I compared this place to Buddakan and Double Knot in philly and it's close but probably not AS good. I found the valet parking to be a bit ridiculous/comedic. We are in the suburbs I can park my own car in a lot. It's berwyn lol. Then you gotta tip.... Just felt like a silly way to make rich suburban folk with their Lamborghinis and BMWs feel more high class than they actually are. But other than that it was very good food. read more

Seemingly out of place,Nectar is an outpost for wonderful sushi and Asian inspired food in a sleek interior mixing wood and stone textures while earth tone colors with hues of orange set a mood. A sushi starter saw beautifully presented yellowfin, spice tuna and a specialty roll. With tempura and eel. Mains included a seared scallops over mushroom risotto. The 6, exterior crisped scallops blended nicely with the creaminess of the risotto. The salmon entree, cooked medium rare based on chef's recommendation was both delicious and a generous cut. The restaurant was full by the time we left, so having reservations seems like a good plan. Service was great. Really. Many restaurants are understaffed while ramping up post Covid. Great, space and vibe, incredibly mediocre food, way overpriced, and inattentive service. Will never go back. This is a "cool, fun, great space, be-seen" sort of place on the Main Line; we've been 4 or 5 times over 15 years, and each time hoped it had improved from the last time. It hasn't. It's so busy the waitstaff are running around crazily, and seemingly trying to move tables through quickly. The apps, likely pre-made, were out within 5 minutes, and some warm ones (spring rolls) lukewarm. Forget the sushi - it's not good, and way overpriced. The local strip mall places (Wasabi etc) are better; Kooma is twice as good. Bluefin in East Norriton is 4 times as good, and cheaper. For example, the eel is cold - that's just laziness; eel should be served warm, as it's grilled. The nigiri is pre-cut; also lazy. The mains were better - pad thai was actually quite good. Bottom line: way overpriced, bad service, very mediocre food. Done. read more

Came here on a weeknight. First they sat us at a table for two next to a loud pair of people talking so I requested we be moved away from them to a booth table against the wall. I actually wouldn't have minded the talking, except that my laminated menu also kept sticking to the glass table top probably from just having been wiped down, but as this was not a fast food restaurant, patrons should be seated at dry tables. Ordered the dim sum bento box for two, vegetarian wild mushroom pad thai and saffron infused basmati fried rice. The dim sum bento box appetizer was very good. My mushroom pad thai was also good, but I actually felt kind of full after the bento box appetizer. Overall a good place. They were doing Asian fusion before it was cool. Never had a bad meal here. Some have been good, some great. Sushi tends to be very good with a very fresh, solid selection of fish. Pricy for sure...but you do mostly get what you pay for. Chinese options are good. Not oily and greasy like traditional Chinese in the area. Again, pricy and portions are not huge, but quality follows the get what you pay for line. Best items are the specialty dishes and fusion fare. Expensive but good for a special occasion. Used to be five star fare as very good sushi used to be harder to find but some very good sushi has populated the area so the price is now harder to justify. Need to be more special and great to get that five star number now and they are a solid four as a result. read more

The restaurant has an air of superiority that it has not earned, or at least no longer deserves. The entire experience felt like it has been specifically tailored to appeal to rich folks on the main line who have absolutely no sense of adventure in their cuisine: the valet-only parking for a parking lot ten feet away, food advertised as spicy that was not, drinks that were uninspired or too strong to be enjoyable. Nothing was wrong with the food, but nothing was excellent; at $50+ per person before drinks SOMETHING, ANYTHING should be truly outstanding. We started with the appetizer seafood bento for 2 which I highly recommend. Comes with lobster dumplings lobster sliders tuna tartar and a shrimp rolls. All were amazing. For my entree I had the wok chili tenderloin. Some of the most tender and tasty filet of beef I have ever had this is a must try! I was hesitant to dine here, based on the mixed reviews. Turns out my review is mixed as well. We ordered a spicy tuna roll as an appetizer, and it was very tasty. The grapefruit lychee martini was tasty as well, even though the actual lychee in it was a little hard. We both ordered the crispy chicken for our entrees and it left much to be desired. The chicken texture was super weird and unappealing and the mixture of veggies could have been more robust. Nectar really disappointed me. Despite the beautiful decor, favorable ambiance, and nice staff, I did not like the restaurant's food--and that's the most important part of a restaurant. The dim sum bento for two was not even dim sum, so I have no idea why it's called that. The veggie dumpling tasted more like a tortellini, and the chicken curry dumpling was so bad, I could hardly finish it--and I'm not even a picky eater! The sushi bento for two is literally not even a bento, and it was subpar. I could've gone somewhere cheaper for better food. This place is extremely Westernized, and that's exactly who they cater to. Their sushi meets expectations, as do the desserts. Some of their soups are seasonal, but when they offer the mushroom soup, that's another gem worth trying. Yum! Love the high ceilings, rich decor, and overall atmosphere -- including the music. It is pricey, but not pretentious. Large variety of beverages. Ample free parking. I did not love the hostess, who lacked warmth or personality...but maybe she was just having an "off" day. Overall, the service was good. Our waiter didn't give us a hard time when we requested substitutions, our water glasses stayed full, and everyone's dishes were brought out promptly and together. Wonderful dining experience! This is our first visit in 3 years, but Nectar is as great as it ever was. No smiles in the greeting at the front desk and terrible acoustics since Nectar opened -- way, way too noisy -- but everything else is so magnificent that I still have to give it 5 stars. Bourbon cocktail and wine superb. Edemame dumplings are pure heaven, one of the greatest dishes I have ever had. They are orgasmic. Same thing with the peach crumble sundae, one of the best desserts of my long life. Scallops, tuna tartare and sushi all wonderful, and Robert, our server, is another reason for 5 stars. Very charming, knowledgeable and professional in every way; he has been there since day one. Valet parking is a nice touch. Nectar is definitely pricey, but this is not a place for penny pinching. Spent a few hours here on New Years Eve getting away from everyone before the festivities. Most unique miso soup, ever... The fillet mignon is fantastic, the chef nailed it, and was precisely how I requested it. The sides are unique, not what you would find at a standard steakhouse. Sashimi/Nigiri we're all spot on, it's a 5 (while i have had better, for perspective, that's at a handful of places, and I travel globally for work). We went to NECTAR for a birthday celebration, and the experience was just okay. While the interior of the restaurant is beautiful, the service was subpar. Upon being seated, we were ignored for nearly 20 minutes and only given food menus (all other tables surrounding us also had drink menus). When someone finally did come over, they hurriedly jumped to asking if we were ready- no greeting- and when we inquired about a wine list (something they're known for) we were met with a scoff and asked to show our IDs, which is fine because we're both in our mid-twenties, but the smugness on part of the waiter was unappreciated and unwarranted. My sushi was just fine, nothing special, and my partner said his pad thai was pretty good. We were in agreement that the best part of the meal were the edamame dumplings, and while they were extremely rich/creamy, they too needed something a bit more to set off the flavor/counteract the creaminess. I was given my wine with my entree, another symptom of the rushed/hectic service, and felt totally unwelcome to relax and enjoy the experience. Overall, a disappointing experience, particularly for a birthday. We probably won't be back, which is a shame, because their menu is varied & intriguing. read more

I called to make a reservation and explained that my husband has cancer so we can not sit near the bar, or in the crowded dining room. I requested one a table upstairs so we would be away from the crowds, The woman on the phone asked us to come in early at 530, so it wasn't their busiest time, and several times guaranteed that we would be seated upstairs. When we arrived at 5:15 they went to seat us in the main dining room. I explained to the manager that I had called ahead, made an early 530 reservation as requested and was guaranteed a table upstairs. He and the woman I had spoken to basically brushed us off and said that they were very busy and we could either take the table they had in the dinging room or leave. He said they could not guarantee anything, so I asked why then would she take our reservation in the first place! I've never had anyone be so rude, or unapologetic! Never ever will we dine at Nectar again and I hope the owner reads this and looks into this deeply disturbing experience. read more

Brilliant Asian fusion restaurant tucked away in Berwyn. Mandatory valet parking, for free, which I'm not a huge fan of, but whatever. Spacious bar area, plus a huge restaurant space downstairs, plus another upstairs. We started with drinks at the bar while we waited for our reservation time. Their bar menu is loaded with options, including several creative cocktails. Atmosphere was quite nice as well. Food options are plentiful and delicious! We started with a couple apps, the dumpling sampler and a spicy tuna roll. The dumplings were good, but above all were the edamame dumplings. Amazing! So good, we ordered an extra order of them. These rival buddakan's take on the same dish, and may even be better. The tuna roll was pretty standard, as expected for a standard roll. They have much larger and more creative rolls, but we weren't in the mood. Dinner itself was a series of delicious meats and noodles. I'm a huge fan of Thai food, especially Pad Thai. I'm also from Maine, hence lobster. The butter poached pad Thai is an incredible take on both. The flavor was rich, and despite the look, the portion is quite large. The lobster is also claw meat, which is far less common outside of Maine, so a nice change. I was disappointed it wasn't the whole lobster, but that's just the norm around here. The lo mein with boost was quite good as well, with tender noodles and salt strips of boar meat. Lastly, their take on pepper steak was tremendous, with an incredibly flavourful sauce and super tender meat. Very, very good. The lo mein is also quite good, but compared with the pad Thai and pepper steak, it was only "good." Dessert consisted of lightly fried donuts with a variety of shipping sauces. They were good, though standard for this kind of thing. Overall, great ambiance, great food, great drinks, great service = great place! read more

My boyfriend and I had a really nice date night here. We made reservations, which I definitely recommend. We had the calamari and edamame for an appetizer. This was really good. I had the Wok Chili Tenderloin of Beef, super fresh, but spicy! It was good and a big portion! He got the Wok Lobster, which was also fresh and a good size for the cost. The cocktails were good and so was the s'mores dessert. I would say it's higher priced, so definitely good for a celebration dinner or a nicer date night. I went here with my parents and my boyfriend and everyone was more than happy with everything. It is mostly Asian, but considered fusion. The menu definitely had unique items and a lot to offer. We loved everything. You can't go wrong with sushi, and the dim sum bento box was a perfect assortment of food. We had some braised short ribs, and light curried chicken, which were both very flavorful. We obviously had to finish the night with dessert, and we had to order the Hot Fresh Mini Doughnuts (which we devoured) and the Autumn Bento for Two, which had four different desserts. The food at Nectar is good, but the service is poor. The valet service is a racket--Nectar has a parking lot right outside of it for which there is no need for valet parking (the spot furthest from the entrance is probably 60 feet away, and most spots are 10 seconds from the door). But they force every car to be valet parked for no reason. The valet drivers on a recent visit were belligerent (and possibly drunk). The Manager of Nectar doesn't take customer feedback seriously and is defensive and dismissive. There are far better places to go for sushi and Asian Fusion on the Main Line, especially considering the poor service. read more

Five stars are super difficult to come by, but this place regardless of location is a must. I've been once with a group of eight for lunch and all of our meals were delicious, and then another following one for dinner which was equally delicious. The prices aren't cheap, and you can expect to easily spend $100 for two people without alcohol or desert for dinner. But if you're in the burbs and need to have food that isn't burned and makes you feel good, this is definitely a place for that. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough. The staff are very nice and helpful. The food is amazing including appetizers, main courses, sushi and dessert. Beyond that, the traffic noise can be a little loud at times but the food and service make up for any of the extraneous sound issues.
