    The only thing we ate

We're big fans of trying new spots and were genuinely excited to check this place out--especially since it was busy and people seemed to be enjoying their meals. But I'm honestly baffled. Are we all eating the same food here? We started strong with the loaded nachos (sorry, I forgot the actual name, but you'll know them--best thing we had all night). They were genuinely delicious and gave us hope. That hope was short-lived. Then came the entrees-- 1. Daughter's meal: Chicken strips and fries - Totally fine. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid. Kid-approved. 2. My meal: Cheeseburger with cheese fries - I wish I were exaggerating, but the burger looked like it had been boiled. Like, cafeteria-style "somehow both gray and soggy" boiled. I couldn't eat it. 3. Husband's meal: Tom's Chicken Fried Steak Special - Came with a special bonus ingredient: a hair embedded in the batter. They kindly remade it (thank you), but let's be honest, the damage was done. The scalloped potatoes? More like potato chunks swimming in cheesy water. The corn tasted like it'd spent all day in a lukewarm spa bath. Zero flavor. 4. Daughter's meal: the "pepper steak" - I'm using quotes here because what we got was more like a steamed hamburger patty with peppers and cheese inside. The baked potato was somehow both flavorless and confusing. The bacon? I have follow-up questions. Like, what was that? Look, I get it. Some nights the kitchen's off, or maybe short-staffed, or maybe the grill really was broken. But this felt like a prank. And yet--other tables were digging in like they were at a five-star spot. Are we on a hidden camera show? The only highlight (besides the nachos) was our server. She was incredible, kind, and clearly doing her best despite the chaos. I didn't have the heart to walk out on her, so yes--we paid $80 to eat nachos. Wild. Wouldn't return. But I'll remember the nachos fondly.

Beautiful views with relaxed environment to have dinner or breakfast at. The fried pickles and bacon cheese fries were the best! Had the grilled chicken, it was ok. We came back for breakfast, and the serving size was filling. The pancakes were delicious & fluffy. Service was great.

Homestyle cooking, and open on the 4th! The onion rings hit the spot. The the chicken fried steak special, and peppered steak were also good. Those biscuits and honey were gobbled before I could get a picture. Good food, great service. The best kind of small-town America feel. Going with the early dinner crowd was good timing for us.

After a few days of eating at our campsite we decided to venture out for a bite to eat for dinner instead. Although the hours online say Neal's was closed, we were happy to see they were actually open with updated hours. Sat outside looking over the Frio river. Server's were quick to suggest the Chicken fried steak as a popular menu item so we all decided to order that. SUPER YUMMY! Great little spot we will definitely come back to next time we are in town

Had a quick stop in Concan at Neal's Cafe last week. Decided to order the "mini" chicken fried steak from the lunch menu! Boy, it was all so fresh and hot. The fries were crispy like they were double fried. The green beans were seasoned well and not over cooked. Then they brought out the complimentary fresh biscuits and honey for dessert.

The main bar spot happens to serve coal fired pizza though so we decided to give it a try. All their pies on the menu sounded good and my wife picked one minus a balsamic drizzle that was given to us on the side. She also ordered some garlic knots. The food arrived pretty quick and looked good, but maybe a little too toasty. Turned out that too toasty was right. They apparently must have had their heat on too high because the garlic knots were definitely burned and could have used a lot more garlic flavor. The char taste won over the garlic. The pizza was a little over toasted on the outside, but still needed some cooking in the middle. We hungrily ate half, but the rest went with us and ended up in the trash and we ALWAYS eat leftover pizza, even cold! And even from gas stations! The $50 price tag with 2 alcoholic drinks definitely wasn't worth it. Great atmosphere and nice people though. Nice place for a drink with friends and your pups. Skip the grub though.

Walked in and enjoyed a seat by the window. Not much vegetarian options for my friend, but his son got a double burger and I got the chicken fried steak. My friend didn't think I could eat it all and after the first bite, it was challenge accepted. Got to talking to the waiter and he mentioned they buy their meat locally and you could tell it was a good piece battered and fried. I got 2 sunny side eggs with it to soak up the plate and I do have to say this was the best CFS that I have had in a long time. I also got a Menudo to go as I was eating, but they forgot to put the order in and in the rush, the top lid cracked and it leaked out on way home. This was a bummer, since I was hoping to have it the next day before work. Besides this mess, I really recommend this place.

Which is cool, in theory. Came in with five savages and your humble narrator.. The place looked open-ish... but the door said otherwise. We're talking "pull so hard it feels disrespectful" energy. I'm staring at a couple inside mid-lunch like I'm breaking and entering while they're enjoying their broccoli cheddar. Finally -- salvation: the lone server opens the door for us with the body language of someone being forced to babysit their ex's dog. Look, I'm never one to throw stones at a server. We've all had days. But let's be fair -- how do you know your day's worse than mine? (For the record, my day was fantastic.) Then the spill happens. Guy at our table fumbles his drink. Splashdown. She sees it. Locks eyes. Walks to the bar, grabs a Costco-sized roll of paper towels, plops it down with all the grace of a DMV appointment... and walks off. No refill. No napkins. No acknowledgment. Just vibes. But next time, I'm bringing my own napkins... and possibly a runway light 2 stars--rounded up to 3 because I saw a helicopter land.

The rice was crunchy, the lettuce was brown, the tomatoes tasted old, and the chicken had this strange mustard flavor that completely ruined the dish. On top of that, there are no vegan options, even though Yelp claimed they did. I asked for vegetable fajitas, and they looked at me like I had two heads, like it was the weirdest request they'd ever heard. They definitely do NOT have vegetarian or vegan options, and they made no effort to accommodate any dietary needs. The asparagus and broccolini came out raw with zero seasoning. Nothing about our meal was enjoyable. If you want actual Mexican food, you're better off going to Taco Bell at this point.
