My wife and I arrived here for breakfast, and as we are ordering our food, we noticed that everybody that works here is sitting down, eating. Their food came out before ours. And their prices are also extremely expensive and they added an extra charge for everything. For using your card two dollars for an extra plate!! it cost me 25.30 and my wife and I had a plain coffee and we shared a burrito. We could've each had our own meal somewhere else for that price not even sharing. Find somewhere else where the staff doesn't sit down and eat their food in front of you and overcharge you for everything. read more

Wow! This place was better than we had remembered. It had been several years since we visited this iconic local eatery with the neon sign and can't miss pink exterior. We came over for lunch on a Saturday and immediately were able to seat ourselves. We were promptly greeted by friendly staff to get our drink order and soon after our lunch order. I had the large portion of beef liver and onions with sides of mashed potatoes and brown gravy, green beans, and slaw. My wife had the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and white gravy, green beans, and fried squash. And both of us chose cornbread as our complimentary bread side. I can't even begin to describe how good the food is. If you have any Southern bones in your body you will be immediately transported to your grandma's house at first bite. If you are not from the South, this is what southern food should taste like, so dig in!! We didn't save room for their famous pies, but everyone around us seemed to be ordering some. We regret not taking some to go. Please go and check this great legend of a local cafe out the next time your are in Springdale. You won't regret it. Total disregard for customers opinion. Owner told a woman he wasn't going to even listen to what she had to say because the waitress was the best waitress he's ever employed and she didn't make mistakes. I'm here to tell you she can and did make one. She forgot to turn in the customers order, turning a 15 min wait into a 40 min wait only after the customer had to bring it to her attention that they had not gotten there food yet. Just a human error I agree. Just own your error and fix the problem. Not this time. She argued that it wasn't her fault and that she didn't cook the food. Then griped to the kitchen to hurry and fix the order she forgot. Food was average to good but service absolutely sucked. It's the type of place that even if the food is horrible (which it wasn't) you have lots to look at, people to observe, and old time culture to talk about! We went for lunch on Saturday after a long morning at the gym. My time at the gym made me loose all guilt of what I ordered- green beans (cooked in bacon grease), mashed potatoes, brown beans and fried chicken! The green beans are a must. I'm a sucker for beef tips and this place doesn't disappoint. It's as good as mine just knowing I can get it here on mondays is awesome. Great rolls as well since they are all homemade. Rating is based on their breakfast. My wife and I happened upon this place while passing through town on a 23-state road trip. At some point just outside Atlanta, the wife decided she was IN LOVE with Waffle House, and insisted we have breakfast there every morning for several days in a row. OK, not to disparage Waffle House (I practically lived there back when I was a poor student in Texas many years ago), but it certainly does get a bit tired after awhile. Intent on breaking her of the waffle fever, I was determined to find an eatery that actually served REAL food. That led us to Neal's Cafe. Oh, thank heaven. All things considered, this is a pretty big place for a highway diner. And their meals are equally enormous. My omelet and hash browns were done very nearly to perfection, and the biscuits and gravy...wow. They're about as big as hour head, fluffy, and delicious. We both left absolutely stuffed. Coffee was freely flowing, and the service in general was top-notch. It probably helped that it was 7:30 AM on a weekday, and the place wasn't packed (though by no means was it empty). Neal's will definitely be on my breakfast list next time I'm in NW Arkansas. read more

I think they should hire more waitresses. I waited too long to order breakfast - the food I had (2 eggs over with ham with grits & toast was good. A charming aspect is there is a fireplace but I did not feel the heat from it. The silly waitress never came by to ask if I wanted more coffee. Meh. My cousin loves this place, but I wasn't all that impressed. The decor is dated and they serve up large portions of perfectly-fried, overly-bland, "southern" food. Apparently my grandparents used to eat here and the decor looks like it is from that same time period. My 74-year-old mother summed it up this way: "Neals? Oh yuck. The portions here are out of control!! You will most definitely come hungry, but leave full to bursting! I had the club and onion rings. The club was great with very crispy bacon and stacks of meat. The sandwich alone was almost more than I could eat. The onion rings were good a crispy, but a little too sweet for my taste. We asked for ranch for dipping and it was great, garlicky and creamy. I also had the fried okra as a side. It was very good and I would order it again. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak which he loved. Only negative to this Resturant is the space. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the tables are very close together. Close enough that it was hard for the waitress to move between tables. Service was still good, but it was hard to have a private conversation with everyone so close. Overall, I would recommend Neal's to anyone looking for a good dinner. read more

Came in at 4:10 left at 5:10 Ordered Fried chicken dinner, chicken fried chicken, roast beef. On our way in they were mopping and asked us to sit to the left. I headed left to the restroom and was given specific directions on where to walk. When I came to sit our server quickly arrived to get our drink order. When she returned to get our food order I had 35 questions to which our server had all the answers. Our drinks were refilled while we waited on our food. Unfortunately as the food was plated they noticed that there was not a full portion of Roast beef and offered to add a piece of chicken to make up for the lack of food. This gesture was polite enough but I had no interest in mixing my foods. My request to change meals completely seemed to be to much a request because they already dished my meal. So this is where common sense goes onto the window. I was brought the roast beef dinner while they cooked my replacement meat. My green beans were hot, my mash potatoes luke warm, and my brown beans were warm. The roast was warm and extremely tasty. I ordered fried catfish as a replacement it came out without the hush puppies and arrived on fire as to be expected from freshly fried food. I was a little put out that the waitress insisted on bringing my plate of partial roast beef her reasoning was because it was already plated. Well guess what I ordered roast beef sides not fried catfish sides. I would have preferred to get the option to order something different with appropriate sides or get a discount on the meal since it was a partial order but was still plenty. You should NEVER serve food in stages EVER. After being served the catfish and mentioning I'd like those hushpuppies the server did not return until we were finished eating. We needed other items bit she did not return. We were traveling from Ohio and were very hungry so we ate all the food. My husband was served room temperature fried chicken dinner with hot green beans luke warm potatoes. The other meal of chicken fried chicken was served to my daughter who had no issues. The food was very good when it finally got to our table. The waitress did not put our order into the kitchen so we sat for 30 minutes while tables seated after us were served their meals. We were not spoken to until I asked about our food and then waitress was combative "I don't make the food!" The owner was just as rude and after we were asked about our experience he said "I won't listen to that". I GUESS HE CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! Fried Chicken is some of the best you'll have anywhere. If you are visiting NWA, do not be fooled by Some of the other "Chicken" Places we are known for I.E. A.Q. Chicken. This is real pan fried Chicken, the way it should be done. Blue Plate Specials and home cooking. All Entrees and most sides are delicious. Green Beans are flavorless, unless you include "canned flavor". Homemade pies are excellent. Rolls are good, Service is VERY local, and struggles from time to time. What they lack in professionalism, they make up for with going the extra mile on friendliness, and small talk. Prices are moderate for this type of dining. No Bar or Alcohol at all. This place has been here for a long time, and will probably be here for many years to come. read more

We had my daughters graduation party here in May. They were so wonderful to have an area prepared for us and we're flexible on the fact that it took us a while to get there from the event. Everyone enjoyed hot yummy food and delicious pies. They even let us order pies that we knew our family would like and held them back for us. Welcome to the epitome of average. I think that the biggest problem is the total lack of organization. At most restaurants you have a single server, but at Neal's yesterday we had 6 different ones, all asking what we are having to eat or drink. They worked all the tabled like this, making us completely unsure who to ask for things for and no one kept tabs on anyone. Pricing point was way to high for the quality of food. They do huge portions, but with the quality and flavor, or lack there of, we threw it away. I ate here because my companion did not want Mexican that day. The service was good, and to me the food was okay. I typically prefer complex flavors and spices, so to me, the food was fairly bland. The fried okra was delicious. The onion rings were plain and simple. Buttery, even. No pepper, no spices, and possibly not even salted. The chicken fried steak was okay. Not much flavor, but very easy to cut up. I did notice that I was the youngest patron that day by far, and it was packed. My lady and I ate there when I was in Springdale for my class reunion. The food was as good as it has been since I was a little boy. The fried chicken is still by far the best I have ever eaten. Frankly, I don't know how The AQ Chicken House has stayed in business for so long with Neil's across the street, and The AQ's chicken is amazing! I had forgotten their pies. The chocolate and the lemon pie that we had were absolutely amazing! We are both big eaters, but had to get a box to take our leftover pie with us.
