First time in for a really long time was for a birthday dinner and the food was really fantastic. At the table we had the fish & grits, smoked duck breast, and meatloaf and 2 of us had some nice wine by the glass. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, and the meatloaf plate was devoured without me getting a bite so I know it was really good. Service was on point. I think price wise, they are what you anticipate for from scratch, locally sourced food thoughtfully prepared. I've decided the reason I don't think of them more often for a nice dinner is the ambience, or I should say, the lack thereof. The place is not cozy or comfortable - bright lights, hard seating, and little decor makes me feel like it's a super casual dining restaurant. I don't "feel treated" like I do sitting at some of the other local places with food on par with Mockingbird. I maybe don't mind it as much for brunch, but if you drop $50 for a special Benedict & cocktail - I still want to "feel" it was a more special meal than a local hash spot. Maybe I'm fussy. But I think the only reason I don't put Mockingbird on par with Vetro 1925 or Isabella's for a nice dinner is that it doesn't feel special. read more

Not sure how Mockingbird Kitchen manages to be both creative and comforting but they do! In addition to excellent service, they offer a thoughtful approach to local and seasonal food with an emphasis on from scratch meals. As much as possible is made in-house and you can taste that effort in every bite. While this is the perfect spot for a special occasion, it can't be missed for a regular lunch, brunch, or dinner. Highly recommend the meatloaf and the Mockingbird Pie but make sure you ask about the Chef Special - you might just find a new favorite. read more

Our office ordered a small catering and everything was outstanding! The edamame hummus and pimento cheese dip paired so well with all of the lovely cut vegetables and fresh made tortilla chips. So this is a decent small restaurant in a mini mall that you wouldn't expect to have good food. The place was packed for a weekday lunch. The service was quick, friendly, but they left you alone if you wanted to be left alone. The meatloaf fell apart and had an unexpected spice in the sauce. This isn't grandma's standard brown sauce. And the chips on top were a bit of an overkill, and some vegetable would have helped round out this dish. I appreciate they didn't go crazy on the serving size, however it was pricey. read more

My daughters and I were in the area for a volleyball event and searched for somewhere to go eat afterwards. We were not disappointed! One of my daughters and myself eat a plant based lifestyle and the chef here has so many options! Food was delicious! Highly recommend the Farro Stir Fry and the vegan bread. My 17 year old meat eating daughter had the duck tacos and devoured them! The service was excellent as well. We were treated so nice and everything was better than expected. Service was good but the food was lack luster. It was hot and fresh don't get me wrong. But the shrimp cakes were literally all bread crumbs so dense it may as well have been a shrimp flavored biscuit. I should have sent it back but I wasn't in the mood for that conversation lol The fried chicken was decent. Smashed potatoes flavorless and chunky. The indoor atmosphere was dull. food not plentiful, inventive and menu was minuscule. Server rarely checked on us and gave me a sweet tea refill when she did come by and I ordered unsweet-gag. We ordered a Cobb salad and it came with no dressing and we couldn't get her attention to stop and the table so we had to track down a manager. lousy lunch won't return. Mockingbird Kitchen has a simple atmosphere and a warm staff. I dined with a friend at 5 when they first opened but soon the room filled up with regular customers and family gatherings. There was a cocktail and wine menu but that wasn't what I was looking for that night. There was also a daily specials menu. I ultimately ordered some shrimp tacos and a cup of tomato soup. The soup was delicious and a bit sweet. I think it may have had some red bell pepper in it. The shrimp tacos were good and came with a spicy sauce I used sparingly. My friend ordered the veggie burger which included quinoa, pecans and more. It was a wonderful texture and an excellent veggie burger. She asked for a side of aioli that really made it sing. And it was served on focaccia bread. My friend wanted more of it and could have almost ordered a second one. If it had been 50% bigger it would have been perfect. Tempted by dessert, I ordered the mockingbird pie to go. It was sweet and creamy with cream cheese and chocolate on I think a pecan crust. Delightful and not too sweet or heavy. At a "Sip and Snack" fundraiser party out at Cane Hill on Saturday evening - the snacks - cheese and savory meat entrees as well as some of the best, freshest fruit complimented the "sipping" offerings of wine an some adult punch combinations. As a very special bonus to the catered menu were two types of fried pies - both featuring antique recipes of apples - one combining goat cheese and apples - the other with apples and a sweet maple flavor. Review is just for food. We got the Ropa Vieja, the Chorizo Meatloaf, and a Chicken Sandwich. All three were underwhelmig, to say the least. The Ropa Vieja was a greasy soup with a few chunks of cheap meat, $20. The Chorizo meatloaf was under seasoned, mushy, and tasted of nothing with an oddly sweet cinnamon taste. Finally got a chance to try this place out and sit on their newly expanded outdoor patio for brunch. It was graduation weekend and they already had a ton of reservations, but we got their at opening and were able to get a table quick. If you're sitting outside and order an alcoholic drink, you'll have to walk inside to get it, as the law doesn't allow the servers to carry it out of the door. I ordered eggs benedict for $18. I'm still shocked by how expensive it was, until I realized this is the new norm everywhere. It came with one side and I ordered veggies with housemade ranch, which was tasty.
