I've never bought lumber before my purchase last week. I wasn't even sure what to call the pieces…read moreof wood I wanted, so I asked about fence posts, but thankfully the employee helping me figured out I just wanted some 6' fence slats. I had actually brought a piece of the fence with me, since the top had a dog-earred cut to it that I was hoping to match. Frank was really nice and patient and explained the choices of wood they had, and what was best for my needs. And then he walked me over and helped me find some galvanized nails that would work for my project as well. I'm planning to replace some pieces in a really old fence that has some pieces rotting away at the bottom and others that are completely broken in half. I'll probably need to go back in and get a couple of top and bottom rails, but I'm much less intimidated to return now. After I purchased my 10 boards, Frank showed me where to go (across the street) to pick up my cut lumber. I had actually just come from the DIY car wash right next door to the lumber yard, and never even realized they were part of the same store. The young man working over there was nice about taking the piece of wood I had in my car and cutting the new pieces to the same angles. And the additional charge for this was really nominal. Their prices were great all around. And the wood was really nice quality. It'll be such a great upgrade; once I learn how to replace the pieces that need to come out and install the new beauties!

This is a little odd to say up front with a 5 star review, but we didn't end up having our windows…read moredone by Bestoff. We took over a half-dozen bids for a to-the-studs siding teardown and Hardie board replacement, using the opportunity to replace 21 old single pane windows and two sliding doors with new construction windows & doors. Of everyone we talked to, Sergey was hands down my favorite. If we were just doing with windows, we absolutely would have gone with Bestoff. The only reason we didn't go with Bestoff was out of their control: we ended up going with a singke business that does both siding and windows rather than splitting the work over two contractors. With that out of the way, here's why I liked Sergey so much: He's real. He's not a salesperson. He listens to understand what you want, but he takes pride in his work and he has a perspective (that he'll share with you) on what to do with your windows to bring out the best in your home. Most folks who came out just asked us if we wanted to keep our sliders in the same configuration. Sergey was the only one who went through each room, truly thought about the air flow and the aesthetics, and provided recommendations on each configuration. He acknowledged it was free advice, and it was -- we're going to follow his recommendations because they make sense, even though we never would have considered them before (and nobody else suggested them). And because Sergey takes pride in the outcome of his work, and not on his upsells, he never pressured me into any unnecessary frills. In fact, any time I considered a "premium" upgrade option, Sergey talked me down and explained why I didn't need it. For example, my head started spinning over energy efficiency and fire protection. I was debating SunMatrix/Quadratherm it's SunShield/Quadratherm for our south and west windows. Sergey was the only bidder to really take me through the pros and cons and ultimately make the case that, for this project, I shouldn't bother. Similarly, I emailed about WUI-compliant tempered gas after I realized I'm only 3 houses away from a high fire danger zone. I waited to know if it was worth getting the WUI glass. Sergey was the only bidder to go over the pros and cons in detail and explain why it would be an unnecessary expense for us. When when I let Sergey know we chose to go with a combined siding/windows contractor, he gave us even more advice on things to look out for to protect ourselves. If you're looking to do a substantial window project, give Sergey a call. I'm trying to manage my deep regret at not getting to work with Sergey. I'll feel a little better if I can imagine playing even a small part in another family getting to work with him

I had installed 3 phantom screens ( one for French doors) which have held up for over 10 years with…read morezero problems. Zero! Well my 95 pound German shepherd crashed through one screen once but that is not Phantom Screen's fault. So today I added 2 more. I got so tired of one traditional screen door that had to be repaired frequently which involved borrowing a truck and dropping it off several miles away. Then borrowing the truck again to pick it up. Finally I realized I had two doors that could use a Phantom Screen and Screens of Northern California was still at the same address so I sent out an e mail. And everything moved quickly. The design is different but the company's responsiveness and quality of work remains stellar. I will miss the push/pull to release the magnets of the original screen door. It is a pretty effective bad guy deterrent at the door to my garage along with another big German Shepherd sleeping at the inside enjoying the breeze! But the new doors' release is welcome at the new locations. And the installer threw in a can of silicone spray. I'd say the only drawback is the screen door seems to be a magnet for dog hair. JK.
