Fried Shrimp, Fish, fries, and salad...
    Shelia S.

I really appreciate this place. We had Hurricane Beryl yesterday and I was without power and food. To see that this place was open today was truly amazing because I was starving. The food was delicious and couldn't have been open at a better time.

For a 6 shrimp and 6 oyster combo poster ($8.99), she was going to charge me well over $10 plus some changes and claim that it is due to tax. Well, it turns out the side (fries or salad) costs extra. Food is fresh and the service is just OK. This location specifically cooks in Chinese way. The other location on Scott and Holman is pure Vietnamese way. It means the flavor is different and price is different as well. I do find the food quite pricy still so it is unlikely for me to come back again. I should add that the moment you enter the place, you will get a full immersion of fish market.. The smell is strong enough that I wish the owner would do something about it.

Great food, classic hood fish spot. Had amazing fried oysters that burst in your mouth... delicious and flaky catfish. Fries on point too.

Fried fish was bomb! The shrimp were big and juicy! Seasoning was perfect. Not to much breading. Rice was also bomb! Overall great food.

The drive thru line was wrapped around so I placed an order to go inside. The restaurant was moderately busy for a Sunday and was clean and well decorated. The prices were reasonable- with a variety of options including seafood, wings, plenty of sides and desserts. I opted for the combo plate with 2 fried catfish filets and 10 shrimp served with fries and a roll. It took about 20 minutes since everything is made fresh and it was well worth it! Everything was crispy, hot and seasoned well (though the fish could have had a weensy bit more). The Joes Berry Lemonade was a nice refresher to wash it all down. I will absolutely be coming here again.

Back at one of my favorites!…read more Started with the Smoked Redfish Dip and, as always, it did not disappoint. Creamy, smoky, flavorful, and paired with warm crackers... an easy 10/10. I decided to step outside my comfort zone and try the Oysters Rockefeller... and let's just say they weren't my speed. They weren't bad, just not for me. So naturally I sent them back and ordered my tried-and-true favorite... Chargrilled Oysters with extra garlic butter, Parmesan, and bacon. Now THAT'S what I came for! Rich, buttery, cheesy, smoky, and absolutely loaded with flavor. Every bite reminded me why these are my go-to. And because brunch rules apply... it was only right to enjoy a pineapple mimosa (or two ). Light, refreshing, and the perfect pairing for all that seafood. If you're visiting Goode Co. Seafood, my advice is simple: Don't skip the Smoked Redfish Dip. Order the Chargrilled Oysters. Add extra garlic butter. Thank me later. 9.5/10 -- I'll definitely be back! #LoveJonesEats #HoustonEats #GoodeSeafood #ChargrilledOysters #SeafoodLover #HoustonFoodie #BrunchVibes #MimosaMood #SupportLocal #FoodieFinds

Really enjoyed my visit to Hudson House…read more I tried the truffle parmesan fries, spicy tuna crispy rice, seared tuna salad, and a strawberry spritz. Extremely disappointed with Hudson House Rice Village…read more Incident happened Thursday, August 13th around 5:30 PM. I'm honestly so disappointed to even be writing this because I've been an avid Hudson House customer for YEARS. I used to go once a week when I lived in Dallas, and now that I'm in Houston, I'm at the Houston locations regularly. So this experience really rubbed me the wrong way. When I arrived at the Rice Village location, the front desk staff weren't particularly friendly, but I brushed it off. We got seated, enjoyed our meal, and when it was time to pay, I specifically asked for a physical check because I don't like any discrepancies with payments. Our waitress told us that they use the QR code system and that it would be much easier since we were splitting the bill, so we went ahead with that. I paid $78.47, including a 20% tip, and went to the bathroom. While I'm in the bathroom, there are TWO waitresses in there. One of them didn't even appear to be using the bathroom -- she was just standing there watching us. At that point, I'm thinking, Are they seriously monitoring us to make sure we don't leave without paying? Then I walk out of the bathroom and there's ANOTHER waitress basically guarding the exit. I look at her and say, "Oh, I didn't know that was an exit sign." Her response, verbatim: "You guys still owe $40 on your tab." I'm like... excuse me?! We absolutely paid. Then we walk a few steps and here comes the manager and another employee telling us we didn't pay. I immediately show them my receipt proving that I paid $78.47, including a 20% tip. The waitress then comes over apologizing and explains that there was a lag in the system and that it showed that we DID pay. So at this point, you'd think it would be over, right? Nope. As we're STILL trying to leave, the same two women at the front desk stop us and say, "Weren't y'all the girls sitting in that booth? You guys need to pay your bill." At that point, I was honestly disgusted. I'm not one to immediately play the race card, but I cannot ignore how discriminatory this entire interaction FELT. We were repeatedly singled out, followed, questioned, and essentially treated like we were trying to dine and dash -- even AFTER I provided proof of payment. And for context, I was there with three of my friends. We're educated, hardworking women -- two of us are PhD graduates, and another is an amazing nurse who literally spends her life saving people. None of that should matter because EVERY customer deserves to be treated with basic respect, but the way we were treated was completely unacceptable. Mistakes with a payment system happen. I completely understand that. What I don't understand is the way we were treated because of a mistake that wasn't ours. After being a loyal Hudson House customer for so long, this experience was extremely disappointing. I will absolutely NOT be returning to the Rice Village location, and honestly, I'd think twice before spending my money somewhere that makes customers feel like they're being watched and accused of stealing. Do better, Hudson House.

I really wanted this to be a hit. Seafood, oysters, alcohol....vibes and a time right? It wasn't…read more I tried the bang bang shrimp, fried pickles, and chargrilled oysters. Something simple that should be an easy win. Unfortunately, everything leaned the same direction: either it was heavy, over-sauced, or overly garlicky. It tasted more like dressed-up frozen food than something thoughtfully prepared. And listen...I don't mind indulgent. But there still has to be balance and fresh food. Fresh like it was raw and delivered today, not fresh like fried in the last 15 mins. When everything is coated, covered, and competing, nothing actually stands out. The drinks didn't help either. They leaned hard on alcohol without much flavor behind them--more "this will get you there" than "this tastes good." Nothing was terrible. But nothing made me want another bite, either. And with seafood, that's kind of the whole point. The atmosphere is friendly, great music, and the service was very attentive. Even the presentation wasn't bad. It just wasn't enough. But at some point, you stop asking what's missing and just accept that it's not landing. I was still hungry so I went next door hoping for a better experience. I want to be clear: It's not bad. It's just not working.
