    Shrimp & grits
    Char I.

Okay let me tell you. The food... is damn good. My friends and I arrived right as the restaurant opened at 2 PM. The parking is a little tricky or strange. The lines are diagonal, but you actually have to park your car straight Um, the exterior does not have a sign so you may get a little confused, because it's on the corner of Scott and McGregor but there's no sign indicating what the restaurant's called, but anywho. The interior of the place is surprising it's really cute, cozy esthetic, and has a large patio, that I didn't try because it's too hot. You order your food at the bar, my friend, and I both got a moscato. And no, thanks, it is box wine, and it was flat, and it wasn't good. My other friend ordered An old-fashioned and she said, it tasted pretty good. I ordered the catfish and grits, 10 out of 10. The catfish was fried perfectly. The grits were nice and creamy I. Also got a side of red beans and rice and they were fire. Really, really good. My friend additionally got the grits with shrimp. She said it was good. Now. Would I return back to this place? Probably not. Would I order pickup? Absolutely because the the one big issue, as someone else stated, the food is good, if you can get it, it took an hour for our food to come out. We had finished our drinks and were parched. They don't offer you water because again, you have to order at the counter and the food took an hour to come out and to the point some people that ordered after us got their food before us. I think there is literally only one person working in the kitchen. My recommendation is, if you want to check this place out, come partially full and with patience or call in your order for pickup. So yes, the food is good but I will not be dining in again

We arrived a bit before opening. The owner or manager let us sit till they were ready and open. This is Thelma old spot, miss that bbq and sass. We looked over menu and once open we ordered drinks and meal. I had a Star beer this was new to me as never had Nigerian beer before. Was a nice beer not too carbonated very malty full bodied flavors. The lady had a raspberry lemon drop. She thought it was strong, added a little extra cranberry to it. For the meal I had a bowl of gumbo, and fried fish and shrimp. She had a cup of crab rice and fried shrimp on the side. I ask for no seasoning on my fries as thats just how I like em. The gumbo for me was not it. I found it to salty and its missing something. Very pretty and filled up bowl though. I'd compare this to Galveston gumbo such as you find at gumbo dinner or little daddy gumbo bar on the strand. They use like a steam pot thing. Leaves a distinct flavor to the gumbo thats not "gumbo" flavor at least for me. Not sure its the same here just taste like it. The fish was really a star for me, as well as the star beer. Very hot fresh and crispy. Exactly what I wanted I'll be back for the fish. Loved my fries (no salt as i asked) ate as much as I could lol. Shrimp were kinda salty but very tasty. I tried some of the crab rice and its a good dish I think a cup of it is enough dont know if I could eat a full order. This was a fun place with a good vibe. Loved the music and folks running it. Seems like a family business everyone there supporting. Very nice outside area in the back may sit there next visit. Come out and support this is a good try.

$20 Catfish Sandwich the way it used to be.

You can never go wrong getting seafood here. The gumbo haw plenty of ingredients and you'll be very happy. I was disappointed with my fish sandwich though I always get it on a bun with a beautiful presentation. This time they actually made a sandwich with regular bread. I have no problem with that, but I could get this same sandwich at Nickel Burger for half the price. This was $20 for a small fish sandwich. I should have sent it back and got something worth $20. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, but not worth $20 when you've been getting a bit more for your money. No fries to make up the $20. Next time I'll get something worth my money.

I had the Cajun seafood pasta, it was the best Cajun pasta I've ever had. A million and one compliments to the chef. Simply amazing, will come back soon. We also had the crawfish rice, nice, fresh, hot, and simply delicous! Ambiance is cool!!!

The parking is slime, but we'll worth the drive. As soon as you get inside there is nothing but good vibes and friendly atmosphere. The owner is so welcoming that I felt like family right away. I suggest dine in to enjoy the good music and wonderful guests. We ordered the gumbo, snapper, and crab rice. All of the dishes very good.

I ordered the crab rice and it was priced at $17 for an 8 oz cup, I wasted my time and my money. Let me tell y'all, this rice was absolutely disgusting, I couldn't even taste the crab meat in it because it wasn't actual lump crab meat and the rice itself is cooked with a lot of thyme, so if you are not someone that eats a lot of thyme, this dish isn't going to be for you. I heard of this restaurant and dish by word of mouth. This dish doesn't belong on anyone menu but it does belong in the trash can. I only gave it a 1 star rating because the app doesn't allow you to give it a rating of 0 stars.

Mayne lemme tell you. I came across this place when I was in town for homecoming at Texas Southern. My wife and I were frankly a lil hung over, a lil stoned and a whole lot hungry. We were instantly greeted by the owner who made us feel like we were at home. The place is a juke joint off Scott and it just feels cozy. Football on the tv, hookah, and soul music. If I lived in third ward I'd be here chillin on Saturdays. Now on to the food. Perfection. The crab fried rice is amazing. Tons of crabs with a hint of creamy garlic sauce. Next up was the gumbo. Blue crab meat, sausage everything you want. They put they foot in it. Lastly the seafood boil was amazing. The sauce has me dreaming of my next trip. Do yourself a favor and experience this down home cookin!

Jewel & I took our friend Gabrielle for her 1st visit. She ordered Shrimp & Grits, I ordered the Fried Shrimp Full Platter with Fries, and Jewel ordered Gumbo with no Rice and a cup of Fried Rice with Crab Meat. All of our orders came out fresh & hot, and very tasty. Service was not too bad, and the vibe was chill. A nice playlist set the mood:

Backyard Boil House is a whole vibe!! The music was on point, the drinks were tasteful, yet strong and the food was DELICIOUS. The parking sucks, but we were able to snag some street parking.

SENSATIONAL! If you want authentic Creole food, this restaurant is a #hiddengem I rarely eat gumbo outside of my home but this place is the exception! I keep coming back time and time again for the gumbo and other dishes that are chef's kiss! I love the ambience and the friendly staff. Perfect for an intimate date night. Something simple that should be an easy win. Unfortunately, everything leaned the same direction: either it was heavy, over-sauced, or overly garlicky. It tasted more like dressed-up frozen food than something thoughtfully prepared. And listen...I don't mind indulgent. But there still has to be balance and fresh food. Fresh like it was raw and delivered today, not fresh like fried in the last 15 mins. When everything is coated, covered, and competing, nothing actually stands out. The drinks didn't help either. They leaned hard on alcohol without much flavor behind them--more "this will get you there" than "this tastes good." Nothing was terrible. But nothing made me want another bite, either. And with seafood, that's kind of the whole point. The atmosphere is friendly, great music, and the service was very attentive. Even the presentation wasn't bad. It just wasn't enough. Cochinita & Co caught my attention because of owner and chef Victoria Elizondo who was a James Beard semifinalist, Culture Map chef of the year and her restaurant was ranked as one of the top 100 in Houston. The restaurant is located near EaDo and is easy to find. It's in a small strip of businesses so parking can be tight when it's busy. We came with about 30 minutes left for breakfast before they rolled out their lunch menu. There was a few tables of people enjoying their breakfast, but the place got really busy about an hour into lunch. Customer service was great. I needed help making some ordering decisions and the staff steered me in the right direction. I specifically came for breakfast. I started off with an iced Horchata Latte. This drink was excellent. You got all the flavors of a traditional horchata with the cinnamon while still having the coffee flavor present. It was a very well balanced drink. For my entree I went with their popular chilaquiles. They said this is their number one seller for breakfast and I could totally see why. I went with the red chile salsa for the spicy version, but you can also get it with a salsa verde. It comes with black beans, fried egg (you can request a different cook if you desire), crema, queso fresco and green onions. You can add a protein for an additional charge. I added chorizo to mine. Chilaquiles is not something I ever order but I had to try it here. I am so glad I went out of my comfort zone because this dish was amazing. Now I've had bites here and there of chilaquiles but was never blown away, hence me not ordering it. The chips were coated throughout and kept it's crunch through the whole meal. All the components of the dish worked in perfect harmony. I liked mine with the chorizo addition. The egg was nice and runny and I would consider adding another egg next time. It was a generous portion and a heavy meal, but I powered through the whole thing because it was so good. They had a nice display of baked goods and I could not pass up the pretty cinnamon roll. I got the last one and it looked very promising. It ended up being just ok. They served it room temp so it ate very dry. It would have been good if it was heated up and gooey. We ended up wasting most of it. Overall, this visit was long overdue but worth the wait. I'm still thinking about the chilaquiles a week later. I will most definitely be back to check out more of their menu.
