Heirloom Squash
Sue T.

This was an amazing date night experience- the food and service were wonderful and we enjoyed everything we tried. I had doubts about ordering fried oysters, but Gorkem was right! They were one of my favorites. Everything was cooked perfectly! My favorite items of the night were the Heirloom squash, fried oysters with caviar, and the scallops. The service was great as well - from the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, everyone was helpful and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Houston has so many restaurants to choose from that it's hard for me to be a repeat customer anywhere (and we eat out quite a bit), but I will definitely come back to Navy Blue. This one is on my repeat list!!

Seafood gumbo

3.5 stars I came here for a company dinner (which may bias my rating a little) & really enjoyed myself! Food: - complimentary cheesy biscuits - 8/10, filled myself too much on this - seafood gumbo - 4/10, they were lacking with the seafood bits and the gumbo had a distinct flavor that I was not a fan of. Other people in my group really enjoyed this though - whipped potatoes - pretty standard, nothing special - squash - also nothing special, wouldn't recommend this - branzino - 9/10, really well done and flavorful with crispy skin - hazelnut opera cake with coffee ice cream - 2/10, I was not a fan of the opera cake. The ice cream was delicious and sitting on espresso powder so definitely be prepared to be up after this - Ambiance: Fine dining although I don't think there's a strict dress code. Parking: valet or garage at rice village or street parking

This was my first time... I had already glanced at the Brunch menu. And was already looking forward to dining on some tasty dishes. Located in Rice Village area I already knew free parking would be a challenge. I tried to arrive early prepared to troll for a spot. Fortunately, I didn't have to try that hard. Yesss, 2hr free parking spot. I made a reservation for inside because it's already freaking hot. When I arrived I was a tad early... I was warmly greeted and politely ask to wait a moment. Escorted to the table and they took our drink order. Bread service cheddar biscuits - 10/10 - crispy, flaky, tender and flavorful Cesar Salad - 10/10 - crisp greens, full flavor dressing, anchovy and crispy nuggets of deliciousness (I am not exactly sure what they were called... it was like croutons and savory bread pudding had a baby, crispy outside and soft inside. French toast - 10/10 - Hong Kong Toast, stuffed French Toast and a doughnut had a ménage à trois and this was the end result. Crispy outside and lots of flavor. Crab Benedict - 10/10 - egg was cooked just right and crab cake was yummy, I really enjoyed taking a little bit of everything on the plate in one bite. Wish there were 2 on the plate. Biscuits and Gravy - 8/10 - this was not just biscuits and gravy, it was a bene wannabe. Adding hot sauce give it the kick it needed. This place can be family friendly and date friendly.

I'm happy to update my review with a well-deserved 5 stars. As previously mentioned, it's a beautiful restaurant, and service is incredibly welcoming, attentive, and polished. This time, every single bite of food was stellar. Of course, I had to have that incredible Caesar salad with its decadent fried croutons and delicious Boquerones. We also tried the shrimp toast, which was perfectly crispy yet not at all greasy - excellent! The scallop congee was soul-warming and, I swear, tasted just like the congee my mom made us as kids when we were sick. The crawfish risotto was punchy and savory with a hint of a kick. If the congee is sweet-natured comfort food, the risotto is its rebellious punk-rock cousin. Both were outstanding. Even the dessert - the fig tart - was a delightful surprise. Yes, we were very full - and yet we kept eating it: slightly figgy, nutty, and a sweet cream layer. The accompanying ice cream was the perfect partner: We all agreed this was truly a perfect meal!

Celebrating our friends birthday! Was able to fit a group of 12 at a table. For drinks, I got a classic margarita with Reposado and Tajin on the rim (Keep in mind they up charge for Reposado $19 to $28). They served some complimentary biscuits and it was warm/soft paired wonderfully with the butter. Appetizer, we got 1/2 dozen grilled oysters (grilled nicely and I liked how they seasoned the oysters, had a small kick as well). Also, the Seafood Gumbo that had crab, shrimp, oyster and okra (quite a thick broth, it wasn't super flavorful, but not bad). For my main, I got the Lobster Roll (not on the menu in the restaurant) and it was fresh! Good amount of lobster chunks inside of the delicious buttery bread. Also, comes with a side of fries which were crispy and seasoned. Our group brought in our own cake to celebrate, but they charge $7/person like a "cake-idge fee", which is a bit ridiculous. They are definitely over charging and not happy about that situation. Restrooms - Individual stalls, dirty. Had fancy soap and fancy thick napkins Parking - complimentary valet or free garage parking (fee after 2 hours)

Taking advantage of HRW and checking out this Rice Village restaurant led by Chef Bludorn. We opted in to the shrimp toast as our first course and it's a thing of beauty. Crisp, crunchy and delightful. The cheddar biscuits were amazing though the seaweed butter was not my favorite. For mains, we both ordered the pork loin. Accompanied by a pepper sauce and fingerling potatoes, the flavor profile was top notch, the pork loin itself was a bit tough and chewy. We finished with two of the dessert, a blackberry tart and carrot cake. Both were outstanding.

My Guy...Their version of a Mai Tai. Good, but lots of ice and very little drink.

We sat at the bar and ordered a few drinks and appetizers and had a wonderful experience. Moments after sitting down, we were brought complimentary Cheddar biscuits, which came with an incredible butter. Delicious! My favorite appetizer was the Mahi Mahi dip with homemade chips. Great flavor! Not fishy at all. I am looking forward to coming back to try the crab cakes. We also had the French fries, which were crispy and fresh. Make sure you ask for a side of tartar sauce to dip them in. Also! The almond cookies they had sitting by the front door were wonderful! Bartenders were very friendly, as well. Also! Bathrooms were clean and well appointed. I greatly appreciated the exfoliating Aesop soap they had! Lovely scent.

I walked in 30 minutes before closing and asked to sit at the bar. I read reviews and knew exactly what I wanted. I ordered everything at once. This restaurant was stunning and the food did not disappoint. I had a Caesar salad and a crabcake with the perfect glass of wine.

Carrot cake Choco cake

Food: - Caesar salad is a must. The croutons are hard to miss. - fish sandwich was perfect. Soft bun with a crispy and meaty fish. Def recommend. - snapper is my fav. The almond crust and the flavorful romesco. Really yummy! - fries: perfectly salted and crisp. Great to share! - chocolate coulant: SO yummy. It's a warm chocolate cake with a crisp top filled with grape jam and peanut butter. With a side of pecan ice cream. Might be my favorite dessert! Service: - Jacob was an excellent server. Always available and very attentive. - everyone is so friendly and hospitable. We never feel rushed and all the food comes out with appropriate timing for each course. Ambiance: - comfortable and cozy with an open kitchen concept. Great for date night or a celebration.

Lunch menu

Nice lunch experience! Service was exceptional. The staff was very kind and attentive. I like that there's a two course lunch menu for $25! Ordered the Mahi Mahi dip ($19) which comes with potato chips for dipping. The flavor was nice, it is a richer dip but I like how savory it was, and the salty chips made for a nice pairing. I did the two course lunch deal. The kataifi wrapped shrimp were very tasty and large. It is reminiscent of coconut shrimp with the flavor and texture, but much more elevated. I loved the crunch! The salmon was cooked perfectly- the skin was exceptionally crispy and the spinach was nice as well. The mushrooms were very savory. The cream sauce was pretty rich. I think the lunch menu is a great deal. Seating was comfortable, would be a great place for date night but it's not intimidating for a week day lunch. Bathrooms were very clean! One thing to note is that refills of soft drinks are not included in the original price (first Diet Coke was $5, refill was $3) which seems a bit silly.

Lobster pasta
Beryce G.

Food (4/5) - Favorite was probably the red snapper - For dessert, the chocolate coulant was pretty good - Lobster pasta was also good. Definitely on the richer side Service (5/5) - Excellent service - Addressed all of our concerns and answered all of our questions Ambience (5/5) - More formal, intimate - Good for dates and for groups One feedback I would give to the restaurant is to check their dishwashers. Unfortunately, when we first arrived our glasses smelled strangely fishy and one of the forks also came with food stuck to it. For the amount we paid, I would have expected the utensils to be clean. Otherwise, great service and good food!

Scottish salmon

I had a great time at navy blue for lunch this past Tuesday! I called on Monday to make the reservation at 1230 for the next day and had no issue scheduling it. The service from phone call to the end of the meal was wonderfully attentive and helpful. I actually went for restaurant weeks and I was blown away by the food. This was by far my favorite experience for restaurant weeks ever. I got the Kataifi-wrapped Fried Shrimp and Scottish Salmon. The fried shrimp was perfectly fried and not over oiled. The Scottish salmon was presented well in a delicious Bianco sauce. I would highly recommend this place for the delicious food and great vibes. I'll surely be back!

Ask the Community - Navy Blue

Is Navy Blue casual dress?

I would say more business casual but its a very non pretentious venue.

What Is the noise level?

It is a large open area so of course there is noise but the six of us had no problem carrying on a nice conversation. The service and food are worth a little noise.

How's the parking situation?

There is unmetered street parking around the restaurant but it may require you to walk a few blocks. The restaurant has a valet option which we found easier to use.

Do you have to have to have a reservation?

Unless you go super early or late, yes you should get a reservation

I've been working my way through this menu for a while now and I honestly can't remember having anything bad. The gumbo is a must, the fried shrimp are SO good. The seafood empanadas and stuffed crab are on permanent rotation for me. If you're with a group, get the redfish beignets and the hush puppies for the table. Both are great for sharing, assuming you're the sharing type. The dining room is split into two halves. One half gives me school cafeteria vibes. The other half is darker and cozier, and that's where I head every time, mostly so nobody can see the mess I'm making of myself, it's better for those of us who wear our gumbo. Big shoutout to the staff. They were all excellent, and they were so sweet with my two nieces. After seeing Hudson House all over TikTok, I finally decided to see what the hype was about. Baby,…read moreapparently everybody else had the same idea because Friday at 4 PM was JUMPING. I was quoted about a 15-minute wait, which is about as much patience as I have for a restaurant waitlist. While waiting, I started chatting with another woman, Audrey, who was also dining solo and visiting for the first time. Her table became available before mine, and she invited me to join her. Y'all, we ended up having the best time! You would've thought we'd been girlfriends for years. We both had burgers + fries, and tried a few cocktails. The espresso martini was good, the popular Bellini was a miss for both of us, and the lemon drop was much more our speed. Overall, the food was great! The atmosphere was lively, a little too lively for my personal preference. I enjoy a good scene, but crowded waiting areas and overstimulating spaces aren't really my thing. I'd definitely choose a quieter Monday or Tuesday next time. Our waitress Ebony was absolutely gorgeous, and a doll! But here's the sweetest part. When it was time to leave, I asked for separate checks. Audrey got up, presumably to use the restroom, and unbeknownst to me, paid for my meal too. Such an unexpected and thoughtful gesture from someone I'd literally just met. What started as a random Friday trying a TikTok-famous restaurant turned into great food, wonderful conversation, and a beautiful reminder that kindness still exists. Everybody had a great time with the visuals and the taste of the signature cocktails, the frozen orange juice as a floater in the ome the ladies ordered is a standout. Our appetizers portion of the meal was our overall highlight here on this visit. The 3 available raw east coast variety were presented tastefully and were fresh of course. Grilled octopus was easily some of the best prepared I've had, they nailed the texture. Eggplant dish was crispy, lobster gnocchi was spectacular with how much lobster made it on to the plate and quality of the gnocchi itself. Our mains were excellently prepared, I had the Tilefish, it was exactly as described by our waiter, and the crispy skin was executed perfectly. My wife's lamb chops were cleaned off the bone, not much higher of a compliment to be made there. Really the experience was capped off with class when we approached our agreed upon time to wrap things up prior to the concert. We had taken all of our time with the hot portion of the meal that we had left none for dessert. The staff then in unison changed out our plates and plated our selection of what seemed like all the dessert options for us to pick from as we liked.
