There's something magical about visiting a winery when the leaves turn gold, brown, and amber -- nature's way of setting the perfect backdrop for a glass (or two) of wine. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Native Vines Winery, the first American Indian-owned winery in the United States. If you're coming from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, or Charlotte, the drive is an easy one -- less than an hour away and well worth the trip. I chose a quiet fall weekend when no events were scheduled. The weekend hours are a bit longer, so it gave me time to relax and enjoy the full experience. As soon as I walked through the door, I was warmly welcomed. Native Vines offers a customizable tasting where you can choose six wines from their list. I'm usually more of a semi-sweet wine drinker, but I decided to be adventurous and include two dry wines in my flight. My selections were: * * * * * * Dry wines: Indian Summer and Chief's Blend * * * * * * Semi-sweet wines: White Buffalo, Green Tea Wine, Raspberry Tea Wine, and Sangria Crackers were provided between tastings to cleanse the palate -- a thoughtful touch. The winery offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and there was even a food truck on-site for those wanting a bite to pair with their wine. My personal favorite was the Green Tea Wine -- light, refreshing, and pleasantly unexpected. I also loved Chief's Blend, a Cabernet Sauvignon with rich cherry and cocoa notes. In the end, I couldn't resist taking home bottles of the Green Tea Wine, Chief's Blend, and of course, the Sangria (because who can ever say no to Sangria?). I'm already planning my next visit -- hopefully on a day when they're hosting one of their lively events. If you're looking for a laid-back winery experience with a unique cultural story, Native Vines is absolutely worth the trip.

Native Vines Winery is a small little winery nestled in Lexington! When you get there you're greeted by Cody, their beautiful horse that loves visitors and attention! He's a sweet horse. The wines were delicious, I got to do a wine tasting and you get to choose 6 wines for $12! Our hostess was very knowledgeable and kept me informed of the wines I was drinking and how they were produced and what to expect before I took my sip. They are definitely worth a visit! They are not too far from childress either if you are already out there!

This place had a very homey type feel to it. We went thru all of there wines during our wine tasting venture and they were awesome. The sangria really stood out to me probably one of the best wines I've had ever. Would definitely recommend trying their sangria especially if you like a sweeter wine. Our host who actually ran the place was more than knowledgeable and provided us with a great experience throughout our whole tasting of the wines. A great spot to lay low and have a glass a wine or two you will not be disappointed!

Found this winery on Yelp. What drew my attention was the comment about the horse. There is one and it's awesome. Very friendly, it came up to the fence when I called it. The horse's name is Cody. So cool. The wines are good too. We bought the White Buffalo white wine. It's delicious and refreshing on a hot summer day. Service was good too, very friendly and informative. Really liked the inside tasting area , nicely laid out. The outdoor area is also nice, with the fans going the heat is at least tolerable. I would recommend this winery and plan to return. The horse made it worth the trip.

Very pleasant winery! We were looking for a new place on Saturday and found they were having live music which was also great! They had a yummy taco truck there and it was great! My husband got the blackberry wine and it was very good. I got the bottle of Sangria and it was so good! Very refreshing for a hot summer day. And it was nice to see it is Native American owned!!! We will definitely be back!!!

Great list of wines to choose from - many unique fruity (but not overly sweet) options. Charming spot.

This winery is absolutely fantastic - it's quiet, quaint, wonderful staff that lead us thru our tasting.. great outdoor seating areas. We can't wait to go back! PS. The Green Tea wine is my favorite next to the White Buffalo!

What you need to know: Native Vines is more of a low key winery, with a more family-feel. Expect to drive through a small neighborhood to get to the winery, don't expect a lot of space, and be ready for animals! Having lived in Winston-Salem for two summers, I always wanted to try the variety of wineries around the area, and finally got the chance to do so. Wine Tasting: The wine tasting was $10, so a little more than I thought it would be, but still cheaper than what I've experienced in North Georgia. You're allowed to sample 7 wines of choice (red, white, or mix and match) and if you're lucky they'll have a few seasonal wines that they'll let you try in addition to those 7! Their wine glasses are definitely less luxurious than you would normally get - stemless - but do the job fine. The ladies who helped us were super knowledgeable about the wines and were able to not only give their personal opinions, but also help us with our tastes so we could pick the right ones to try. Special shout-out to the Mediterranean crackers they have! Wines: Most of their wines are more on the sweet side. I like sweet wines so I wasn't complaining, but if you're more of a dry wine connosieur you probably won't find much to love here. Ambience: Overall, the place has a more homey feel than most wineries I've been to. Which makes sense as it's seemingly located in a residential neighborhood where the owners live. The patio was perfect for the sunny weather we got blessed with, and we even got to meet their dogs and cats that lived next door! Both of whom were super friendly (even though I'm sure they just wanted the crackers). Inside is cozy enough, and intimate due to the small space. They have plenty of nicknacks to buy and are fairly low key about everything they have. Overall, this was a nice quiet winery with decent wines and a few friendly creatures around. I do wish they would fix the locks ok the bathroom doors however and neither would really lock when I went in.

This winery is located in a rural area so the drive in was nice and quiet. It makes you reflect on the hustle and bustle of the city. When you turn off the main road, it is hard to tell if you're going to a winery or into someone's driveway, even with the sign. Once you arrive, you can tell someone lives near by with the house and cars. It's peaceful though. It's not as majestic as how you think other winery's would be but it has its own uniqueness-- a converted barn. Once inside, it is pretty chill. The decor is simple but nice. I love the saddles in the corner. We were immediately greeted by a woman who got us set up but later a younger woman continued our tasting. Both were very knowledgeable in their wines. There was an older dog sleeping behind the bar, which was cute. I really enjoyed the natural tastes of each wine and I didn't dislike any of them. I prefer sweet wines and none were disappointing. The crackers we got were Mediterranean flavored (can't remember the brand) and delicious. We did get glasses, a White Buffalo and Redhawk, to sit outside and relax. We were later greeted by smaller and older dog and a cat. Both of them were the sweetest things and eventually will leave you alone. Overall, I had a really good everpience and will come back.

We came on a busy Saturday and the pourer said this was how it was when it was a race day down in Charlotte. People were bringing their little kids along with them to get their wine on before the race....yikes. The tasting room was nice as I said, large and full of wine to purchase and swag to buy. There were a number of different places in the tasting room (building), I think I counted five places you in different parts of the building you could taste wine. There is a bistro in a separate building, it seemed okay, we didn't get food. The wine was decent, but not stellar, so that is the four instead of five star from me. Worth a visit if you're heading up or down to Charlotte or just are in the area.

It seemed they had a pretty extensive list of wines to choose from. They had a large, spacious indoor area for sitting, but also a lot of outdoor space and a medium sized covered patio with fans to help with the heat. The woman working the bar was very friendly and I heard her making a number of recommendations. Personally I'm not a wine drinker, but they did also have a small selection of beers to pick from as well We had a great visit and I'd go back to enjoy a nice day, maybe when the weather begins to cool, at least a little

Everyone I was with ended up going for the flight and they brought them out pretty quickly despite being really busy on a Sunday afternoon. The flights might be a little small but the price was pretty affordable so it was worth it in my opinion. There's plenty of outside tables and there's a few tables inside. There's also a cute store inside with some local products. I personally love dessert wine so I love the variety of dessert wines they have. Every wine I tried was really good though. They did come around & ask if we wanted to join the wine club and gave us a sample of a club exclusive wine, but they weren't pushy at all when we said we weren't interested in joining. We also had a charcuterie board which I wish I took a picture of. It was delicious - it had cheese, crackers, olives, chocolate covered pomegranates (I think), and I'm sure I'm forgetting something else. Overall, a really enjoyable place to go with friends or a nice date spot! They seem to have a lot of good events worth checking out too.
