The Aesthetic: Retro, single screen theater with original, charming decor and affordable tickets/snacks. The Price: This is the most affordable theater around, the tickets are only $4 matinee and $5 regular. The candy is $1 per pack and drinks were $2! The Parking: It's difficult to get a spot right in front because it's on a main road, but there is plenty of parking on the side streets surrounding the theater. My Order: We got 2 tickets to Super Mario for $8, 2 candies for $2, and 1 drink for $2. A date night for $12 is a steal! My only downside was that the seats haven't been renovated, so they were harder than other theaters, and I felt it! At least they look pretty. It won't deter me from coming back for another date. The Conclusion: It's truly a gem, go here and support a beautiful business in a small town.

I frequent the Gem Theatre quite often because it's a cost effective, old style theatre that features the latest first run movies. Tickets cost $5, all snacks are $1, a small popcorn is $1.75 and a medium is $2.50; drinks are reasonable as well. I really love that this theatre is never crowded, but if I had any complaints they would be that the floors are sticky, you need to get your concessions prior to the start of the movie because the concession stand closes a few minutes after the movie starts and that the staff is sparse! No big deal, I'll be back.

The name could not suit this place any better! Truly a gem in todays time! Cheap movie prices, cheap concessions, and old time charm wrapped into one. It's seriously a step back into time and I absolutely love it!! There are no reclining seats or reserved seats like todays modern time, so if you remember back in the day the struggle of first come first served movie seating, it's definitely best you get there early. My first time here and I saw Barbie, but I will certainly be back for other movies. $5 movie and my snacks (popcorn, drink and candy) totaled to just $6, a total win!

This theater feels like the keepers of time just pressed the pause button here, and I like it. Now don't get it wrong, this theatre is not in disrepair it's wonderfully retro! You can't miss their cool display, with the nostalgic marquis letters. They play second-run movies and generally have a single feature film. It's not a multiplex, and again... I actually like that. It is typically a family-friendly film showing. This is a discount theater, so you can actually purchase really good movie popcorn and other snacks here without breaking the bank. This is an inexpensive trip to the movies. My nephews had fun, and I enjoyed this simple sweet Kannapolis neighborhood gem.

Inside of the classic Gem Theatre.

A classic theater which allows great entertainment value alone with reasonable concession prices. One does not have to take out a second mortgage on the home just to go to a movie at the Gem. I was fortunate to have grown up attending movies at the Gem on a regular basis, so a movie experience here is not only a throwback in time but to childhood also. In conclusion: there's nothing like experiencing a movie at the Gem. You may not have 47 screens to choose from, but you're not in a simple concrete block building either. It is a real movie experience as was meant to be.

I paid $9 for my ticket on a Saturday evening and $9 for popcorn and a fountain drink - fair. Right after the previews the screen paused and we had to call the attendant to start it again, but it was smooth sailing after that. I had the same experience the last time I went to a theater in Pineville, not quite sure why this keeps happening to me. Lol

There's…read moresomething special about walking into the theater, smelling fresh popcorn, and settling into a comfortable seat while the lights dim. I was looking forward to enjoying a nice, peaceful movie night--just escaping into a different world for a couple of hours. At first, everything felt perfect. The screen lit up, the sound filled the room, and I became immersed in the story. The audience around me was quiet and respectful, which made the experience even better. A good theater environment allows you to forget about everything else and focus completely on the film. However, not long after the movie started, loud cultural music began playing in the theater room next to ours. It sounded like there was a celebration or a special screening happening, with energetic songs and heavy bass. While I respect and appreciate cultural music and events, the volume was so loud that it carried straight through the walls and into our theater. During quiet scenes, the bass thumped loudly, and the music overlapped with the dialogue on screen. The biggest issue was that the rooms clearly were not soundproof. Instead of thick, insulated walls blocking outside noise, it felt like only a thin barrier separated the theaters. Every beat and rhythm echoed into our space, making it difficult to concentrate. Movie theaters are designed to create an immersive experience, but without proper soundproofing, that experience is easily disrupted. As the movie continued, I found myself more distracted than entertained. Important emotional moments were interrupted by sudden bursts of music from next door. Other people in the theater shifted in their seats, and a few even looked around in frustration. The peaceful atmosphere that makes movie nights enjoyable had completely disappeared. In the end, what was supposed to be a lovely, relaxing evening turned into a disappointing experience. While the event in the other room may have been meaningful for those attending, the lack of soundproofing between theaters showed poor planning and consideration. A movie theater should provide an escape from outside noise, and without proper sound insulation, that magic is lost.

The food which usually comes out within 15 to 20 minutes, took an hour and 25 minutes to arrive and the nachos were stale, this is unacceptable! And that was only after we had to inquire about the order. The restrooms were atrocious! Water, paper-towels , and toilet tissue was all over the place, as if the bathroom had not been checked or cleaned all day. And my chair was broke to boot! I spoke with Josh who is one of the supervisors on site, and he heard my concerns. He actually sent someone into the bathrooms to straighten them out, he wrote down the information for my broke seat so that it could be repaired, and he also gave me two movie passes to come back for better experience. Shout-out to Josh for being proactive, but everyone else needs to get on their game. I do have an Elite membership ay Cinergy, and I have never had an experience like this. This is also the weekend that the Michael Jackson movie and the Devil wears Prada movie is in theaters so I understand the crowd, but I will be checking to make sure they do better moving forward.
