This was our first time at this venue. The parking was very organized, and surprisingly didn't cost us anything. Loved that! The only con for me the whole night was their bag policy. The size you were allowed to bring in isn't realistic. I had the same bag at the PNC Amphitheater with no issues. It's very easy to be searched, and it isn't a big bag. I could see many other ladies weren't too thrilled either getting turned away. The venue is smaller inside than I would've thought. I didn't mind that, because it made the space more intimate. The restrooms were clean, the concession lines were efficient, and this is by far the fastest we have EVER gotten out of the parking lot and on the road from an event. We were very pleased overall with our experience. I would highly recommend changing the bag policy a little to a size of an actual crossbody bag.

Home of the Charlotte Checkers AHL hockey team! A great venue to see other performances but I'm partial to the Checkers. Good work by the people directing traffic in and out as well. Usually no issues there.

I hadn't been to Bojangles Coliseum in years (last time was for a graduation), but wow--it did not disappoint! The place filled up quickly for the game, which was full of energy, fan interaction, and an overall great atmosphere. The temperature inside was perfect--around the 60s--so no need to bundle up like outside. The food options were the best I've seen at a sporting event--fresh, cooked in front of you, and most vendors are cashless for convenience. And not only do they serve beer and wine, but they also offer liquor! Finally, a place that gets it right. This venue is fun for all ages. My kids even got to dap up the players, which completely made their month. I'm pretty sure we'll be back before the month is over.

We enjoy the Charlotte Checkers games in this arena, over the past couple years the entertainment during the hockey game has improved and it's actually a lot of fun going with friends. The arena is accessible, staff is friendly and there isn't really a bad seat! We have also visited for concerts before and always liked coming here.

Definitely recommend coming for a Charlotte Checkers game! Came with my 4yo nephew who is hockey obsessed and loved It. It's a small arena with affordable tickets so there's truly not a bad seat in the house. Parking was a little confusing bc the arena is attached to a concert hall so make sure you're following the signs for hockey and not music.

Love Independence Arena! Well that's what I call it and what it's original name was. I'm sorry I can't keep up with the dumb endorsement names. The arena has been updated nicely since I came to Checkers games in the early 2000's. They have large graphics on the walls and new food vendors. The ushers I think are still the same lovely ladies from way back when and are as polite and helpful as they ever were. Now don't expect the fancy stuff you see at brand new arenas or polished surfaces everywhere. This is a very old arena that's been 'spiffed up' if you will and has a nostalgia to it that I love. Chubby is the mascot and you'll be sure to have a photo opp as he's roaming the arena at all times. The only bad part is that he can get swarmed and it may block your view of the action for 10 minutes! (Yes that happened to me, come on Chubby!) The DJ/Organist is great and has some great entertainment during the down times of the games. You'll see him in the lower stands at his organ with a witty Checkers jersey on. If you've never been to a hockey game then... wait what's wrong with you? You've never been to a hockey game?!? Go get tickets now! Oh yeah tickets, just go ahead and buy them online first. Since everything has gone paperless their system at the arena is clunky. You end up basically buying them online at the window, write your cell number on a piece of paper and then the salesperson texts it to you. Yeah... I'm not kidding... it's really dumb... sooo just get them before you go and avoid the hassle. Or just go ahead and get season tickets because you will be back! This is a great venue for families, bros, girls night out, etc. Every seat is good so don't stress about that and honestly if you see some seats open by the third period you could just move down there. Ok why are you still reading?? It's an awesome experience. Go, now go!!

First time being at this location for a concert. Arrived super early to avoid the traffic that can happen off independence. Parking was super easy to navigate (I think since we arrived super early) and were able to get parking right in front. They started letting people enter around 7 pm, and even though huge lines gathered in the front, the moment they opened the doors, the lines moved quickly and efficiently. The lines inside to get drinks or food also were LONG, but they did move quickly. The only ones where you were stuck in a bit were the bathroom lines. Those you were in there for a while, but everyone was trying to move quickly. Overall, it was a great experience here. Security and staff were wonderful, and everything was easy to locate and no confusion.

The Bojangles Coliseum has a long history dating back to 1955. It's a medium sized facility seating 8,500. The primary resident are the Charlotte Checkers hockey team. The coliseum was last renovated in 2015 and given the limitations of the structure, it is in fine shape. The venue provides a more intimate setting for events than the much more spacious Spectrum Arena downtown. Being 65 years old, despite the renovations, the coliseum isn't up to par with modern venues. If it was commercial real estate it would be a Class C property. The two most significant drawbacks are the limited concourses for concessions and the very poor acoustics.

Visited NC specifically for the HBCU Culture Homecoming Fest "Battle of the Bands" show at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. We had an absolutely amazing time with family. The venue was larger than we expected and had many food and drink options. Bathroom options and count of stalls were a bit limited in our section. The band performances were the highlight of the visit. Each band brought their own style and all were so very talented and worthy of praise! Sharing a few videos from the event at this venue. Our view from section 121 row c seats 11,12 and 13.

We went for a Checkers game and I love the atmosphere! Cheap tickets and a good variety of concessions. Great discounts too with certain days of the week and with groups (free hat too!) Great view too no matter how high up you are!

Getting into the venue was an easy process and the venue itself is laid out well. Seats are clearly marked and it's easy to find food, bathrooms etc. We had seats so no lawn but I believe you cannot being in chairs or blankets and I think if that's the case, that isn't ok but I'm sure there is a reason for that. Two items to note as well. 1) this is an open air venue. There is no roof so be weather aware. If it rains, you will be wet. 2) getting out of the venue once you are in your car is going to take time. Two lane roads with merging etc so just be aware of that as well. Enjoy!!

GOOD VENUE, BUT NO CONSISTENCY WITH EMPLOYEES!…read more I went here in July to see BABYMETAL and loved this venue. It was easy to get in and out of, and no seats are bad. This week I returned to see Papa Roach & Rise Against. Firstly, security was absolutely absurd. They were inspecting every little thing and rejecting so many items. My husbands non-clear bag was measured and it was a HALF INCH too big. My friends fold-up picnic blanket was also too big, and their empty folded up tote bag for merch was rejected along with a mini flashlight. Thankfully the venue had a bag check in area where we could check all these items for $10. When we went through security again this time they had a problem with my husbands wallet chain, and told him to either throw it away or put it around his neck. Once inside the venue we got drinks, and they were pouring cans into cups. This was bit annoying due, especially since my drink was in paper which is not sturdy at all. But then throughout the whole night we saw half the guests drinking out of cans! No consistency in bartending rules. The good part about this venue is the small size, making every seat even in the lawn a great view. There are some bars and restaurants in walking distance to pregame or to keep the party going!

(From June, 2023)…read more Charlotte's own amphitheatre/pavilion area for concerts and live shows proved to be a solid venue for live music experiences. I got lucky with getting a floor ticket for the Logic concert back in early June. Finding a spot in the lower right-side of the stage, I was pleased with the view of the stage and the performances which included Juicy J performing before the main act himself, Bobby Tarrantino aka Logic. The energetic crowd added to the festive evening; people mostly were well-behaved. If they weren't, security got involved quick which a lot of us were thankful for. Support your local security guards people! To arrive, I decided to walk from my hotel which is about a mile and a half and located in the downtown Charlotte area. Fortunately I was able to cut through the cemetery which took me to music factory blvd. After walking another couple of blocks, you're in the music factory section which includes several concert venues, some restaurants/bars, and a parking lot. Interesting concept in having multiple venues within the same vicinity. The amphitheater is on the eastern side and easily recognizable which made getting in and out pretty easy. I don't recommend driving here as there is traffic jams when trying to leave. Best to either leave on foot or hang out at one of the restaurants/bars until the commotion dies down. Logic put on a show and look forward to catching him again. Maybe back here again! We just parked in the first lot we noticed and paid. We were able to see our venue from the lot, but had no clue how to get there. Thankfully, we weren't the only ones who was lost. There was a nice amount of us, at least 15 who were just as lost as us. Lucky for us, a waitress from a nearby restaurant pointed us in the right direction and told us that it happens a lot. We, once again, walked around the corner, but went even further than before and saw the entrance. You have to go down a driveway, into a parking lot. There we finally saw someone directing traffic into a parking lot for the show. Once we finally got there, we were notified that our crossbody bags were too big. They needed to be smaller or transparent. I don't even recall reading that. So we had to hike back to the car. It's a good thing we got there early, but at this point I was tired. Went through security. It went off on me twice. I was wand down without a problem. We were directed to our seats. I noticed that we were next to the bathroom, but the only way to get to it was to walk all the way back up the stadium seating and go around the railing. There was no direct stairway close to us. We were sitting in the front row, closest to the bathroom. The performance was amazing. The sound was great. We sat close to the stage, by some of the sound equipment, and it didn't blare or boom, like some do. Perhaps because we're at an amphitheater, which is how it should be. The lights were perfect. The smoke and confetti did its job without drowning those in VIP. The physical venue, overall was great. Just wished there was a touch of easier access to the merch shop and bathrooms. Oh! The bathrooms are totally gender neutral. Like men and women were in the same space. I was surprisingly comfortable with this. I'm not sure if they set it up like this solely because of the performing artist, or if the venue supported the community. I love it. I just hope they also have separate bathrooms for those who are uncomfortable with it.
