This was our first time at this venue. The parking was very organized, and surprisingly didn't cost us anything. Loved that! The only con for me the whole night was their bag policy. The size you were allowed to bring in isn't realistic. I had the same bag at the PNC Amphitheater with no issues. It's very easy to be searched, and it isn't a big bag. I could see many other ladies weren't too thrilled either getting turned away. The venue is smaller inside than I would've thought. I didn't mind that, because it made the space more intimate. The restrooms were clean, the concession lines were efficient, and this is by far the fastest we have EVER gotten out of the parking lot and on the road from an event. We were very pleased overall with our experience. I would highly recommend changing the bag policy a little to a size of an actual crossbody bag. read more

I hadn't been to Bojangles Coliseum in years (last time was for a graduation), but wow--it did not disappoint! The place filled up quickly for the game, which was full of energy, fan interaction, and an overall great atmosphere. The temperature inside was perfect--around the 60s--so no need to bundle up like outside. The food options were the best I've seen at a sporting event--fresh, cooked in front of you, and most vendors are cashless for convenience. And not only do they serve beer and wine, but they also offer liquor! Finally, a place that gets it right. This venue is fun for all ages. My kids even got to dap up the players, which completely made their month. I'm pretty sure we'll be back before the month is over. read more

Love Independence Arena! Well that's what I call it and what it's original name was. I'm sorry I can't keep up with the dumb endorsement names. The arena has been updated nicely since I came to Checkers games in the early 2000's. They have large graphics on the walls and new food vendors. The ushers I think are still the same lovely ladies from way back when and are as polite and helpful as they ever were. Now don't expect the fancy stuff you see at brand new arenas or polished surfaces everywhere. This is a very old arena that's been 'spiffed up' if you will and has a nostalgia to it that I love. Chubby is the mascot and you'll be sure to have a photo opp as he's roaming the arena at all times. The only bad part is that he can get swarmed and it may block your view of the action for 10 minutes! (Yes that happened to me, come on Chubby!) The DJ/Organist is great and has some great entertainment during the down times of the games. You'll see him in the lower stands at his organ with a witty Checkers jersey on. If you've never been to a hockey game then... wait what's wrong with you? You've never been to a hockey game?!? Go get tickets now! Oh yeah tickets, just go ahead and buy them online first. Since everything has gone paperless their system at the arena is clunky. You end up basically buying them online at the window, write your cell number on a piece of paper and then the salesperson texts it to you. Yeah... I'm not kidding... it's really dumb... sooo just get them before you go and avoid the hassle. Or just go ahead and get season tickets because you will be back! This is a great venue for families, bros, girls night out, etc. Every seat is good so don't stress about that and honestly if you see some seats open by the third period you could just move down there. First time being at this location for a concert. Arrived super early to avoid the traffic that can happen off independence. Parking was super easy to navigate (I think since we arrived super early) and were able to get parking right in front. They started letting people enter around 7 pm, and even though huge lines gathered in the front, the moment they opened the doors, the lines moved quickly and efficiently. The lines inside to get drinks or food also were LONG, but they did move quickly. The only ones where you were stuck in a bit were the bathroom lines. Those you were in there for a while, but everyone was trying to move quickly. Overall, it was a great experience here. Security and staff were wonderful, and everything was easy to locate and no confusion. read more

The Bojangles Coliseum has a long history dating back to 1955. It's a medium sized facility seating 8,500. The primary resident are the Charlotte Checkers hockey team. The coliseum was last renovated in 2015 and given the limitations of the structure, it is in fine shape. The venue provides a more intimate setting for events than the much more spacious Spectrum Arena downtown. Being 65 years old, despite the renovations, the coliseum isn't up to par with modern venues. If it was commercial real estate it would be a Class C property. The two most significant drawbacks are the limited concourses for concessions and the very poor acoustics. read more

Actually we had a great time at the Coliseum. My issue is with StubHub. I bought tickets tickets through StubHub, and a parking pass. The fees are outrageous. I was taking my 4 year old grandson to his first Hockey game and figured I should get a parking pass, so that we wouldn't have to walk far. BIG MISTAKE!!! The parking pass was over 3 miles away. I'm handicapped, and I figured StubHub would understand and refund the over-priced parking pass. Not a chance, no refund, and the people at StubHub were complete A-Holes to me. I will never give StubHub my business again. I would rather eat broken glass. Absolutely disgusting, horrible customer service!!! read more

Positive- This is a great venue! Not too difficult to find our seats and there was plenty of space with comfortable seating. The sound was great even way up in the back where we were. Drink lines weren't long. Not much more I could ask for! Critical- It was quite a walk from the lot to the venue. PLEASE develop better parking logistics! It was kind of a nightmare trying to get out. All of the parking employees were at the front directing cars down a one way..that's not really efficient. Visited NC specifically for the HBCU Culture Homecoming Fest "Battle of the Bands" show at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. We had an absolutely amazing time with family. The venue was larger than we expected and had many food and drink options. Bathroom options and count of stalls were a bit limited in our section. Visited during Disney on Ice. Easy venue to find and parking was a breeze. Small venue than I've ever been to, but it was nice for the event we came for with children. Staff was friendly and helpful. I recall going to this venue to see the Checkers when I was maybe 10 years old. We lived in Matthews in the mid-60's so this place was a big deal. I saw the circus here more times than I can remember. Over the years, I have seen Neil Diamond, Jackson Browne & Billy Joel. The old place has aged well. They still need to figure out how to manage the entry and exit flow. The security check in is slow and not very effective. You then have to stop and have your mobile ticket scanned by only one person. Why is there not more staff? Inside the facilities are showing their age. It's still a very unique building and there is new life since it hosts the Checkers Hockey team. They advertise they are upgrading the facilities and working on connecting to the adjacent Ovens Auditorium. read more

Looking for something to do on a Saturday while visiting for a wedding my friend and I went to a Checkers game here. We are both huge hockey fans from Ohio so we didn't have a vested interest in the game, just wanted to see some hockey. This is a really neat venue with great food and drink options. My one complaint is that there is only one merch stand and we wanted to get souvenir pucks. We ended up having to leave before the end of the second to make sure we got in line in time. We went to a Checkers game in early Feb 2020, 50's night - it had deep discounts on concessions which made the lines long and time consuming all night. I've only been to Bojangles' Coliseum for Checkers hockey, so I can only speak to it in that capacity. The first bummer on the list is the parking. It's great that there is an adjacent and expansive lot, but the fact that they charge $8 to park and it's your only option is really unfortunate. At least when there were hockey games in Uptown, you could choose from surface lots and decks and street parking. This feels like a monopoly and I'm not about it. The Checkers game itself was great, but man am I glad that hockey has such long intermissions, because my trip to concessions to get hot chocolate was painfully long. It wasn't busy -- we were second or third in line -- but it took nearly 20 minutes to get our drinks after ordering because the ladies behind the counter were so unorganized. At live sporting events, the people working these types of venues need to have some hustle. It seems like there's not a bad seat in the place, so that's great. I had to choose seats a few rows up because the lower rows are in groups of four and they won't let you leave just one seat unattended. I understand that, but it was a frustrating way to buy tickets. I will say that the Show Pros that are hired by Bojangles' are amazing. I stopped to ask a few questions (where's this, how do I find that, how does whatever work) and each time I was surprised by the helpful, through answers. I guess Bojangles' Coliseum is kind of a necessary evil if you want to watch hockey in Charlotte. It's not a terrible venue by any means, but I do wish I knew the things I noted above before I went. read more

I went to this venue yesterday for a concert that had Keith Sweat and among other R&B artists. 1st time I ever attended this place. And can I tell you, any other concerts hosts here, they can count me out. Very disappointed. Seats were cramped. Aisles are also small. Anybody who is a bit "swoll" will have a hard time in those chairs. Sound system is shady. Marking for sections are confusing. But I'm most disappointed with the staffs, ushers and security! The staffs are not approachable. Like they hated their job. The ushers are the worst. Both young men whose "supposely" helping us find our seats would just point. Twice the gentleman point us to the wrong section. Wouldn't walk anybody to their seats. Full of attitudes! And doesn't seem like they really want to be there. By the time we found a young lady usher, she walked us to our seats. There were someone else sitting there. She turned and said they're in your seats and walk off. Oh may I add, the whole row. Everybody is on the wrong seats. Security was no where to be found. Every body just sits where they feel like and the rest have to fend for themselves because nobody's there to correct the rest whose decides they will sit where they feel best for them. I've been here only for the Holy Angels Wrestling Tournaments that's been held here. This is my 2nd tournament here, and this time around was atrocious just trying to get in. The person working the box office booth did not know how to ring up 3 tickets for today and 3 for tomorrow. It's a 2 day event, and I need tickets for both days. Gave her cash and told her to put the rest on the card. She then said she couldn't split the payment. Ok. Put it all on the card. She couldn't clear it out of the system to do so. Then use the next register (it was open and there was a lady there who was just watching this go down; didn't even bother to help her or us) to ring it up and have the manager cancel the transaction? Apparently, she didn't feel like doing that. Instead, she suggested I go to the ATM and withdraw money to finish paying in cash. Gtfoh! I'm not about to pay an ATM convenience fee for YOUR convenience. I need you to take your time, as we were the ONLY ones in line, and get it together. She finally go into the back for a while. About 2 minutes later, she comes back. She finally managed to clear the transaction out, ring up 3 tickets, and charged the card. She then proceeds to hold onto the tickets and ask if I'm sure I want to buy all the tickets now... Yes. I know what I want and I said what I said. She finally hands them to me and told me to have a nice day. I was irritated for the duration of my time here. It was absurdly long transaction just to purchase a total of 6 tickets. The saving grace of my time here was the food vendors. 2 stars for the choices. read more

Just remember that this place is old - built in the 50s, it has aged well and the only reason you will ever come is for the Checkers or a concert. Parking is across the street, but you walk to the arena via underground tunnel! Security getting in is simple enough, for a sold out checkers game we were frisked and scanned in within a few minutes. The concession stands are plenty, but the staff working them are terrible. It was a 50s throwback night with $1 hotdogs and $0.50 popcorn and sodas. The lines were crazy, but I never figured out why till I got to order. My first experience was about 15 minutes of waiting, they did not have hotdogs, so I got a beer and popcorn. I was handed the popcorn, and waited about 5 minutes while the girl looked at me....I asked "what about my beer?" She responded "oh, she will make it." So I asked "you mean the girl on her cell phone?" The couple with me waited 25 minutes after ordering to get a italian sausage and some wine. My next trip was after the line died down, it took 30 minutes of waiting, till I reached the front, I ordered 3 hotdogs and 2 beers, paid and waited again. One beer came up fast, then the guy went and grabbed 2 hotdogs from the rack that was full of them then they started talking. I asked about my other dog and beer, then after getting it, and I had to reach over the counter and get my own drink carry tray while they talked. If the checkers didn't play here, I would say steer clear. The only thing nice about this arena vs Spectrum is that beer is about $3 less. But you pay for it in time... read more

This building is entirely too small for the amount of people that are allowed inside & the parking lot as well reflects the same issue. Driving in to park in the $8 (unmarked) 2 lane event parking lot added 30 to 45 minutes to get there.The women's restroom has one door for in and out and is being held open with a giant trashcan. I came here for my 1st checkers game!! $8 for parking is a little ridiculous. We didn't wait long to check out tickets in. We had decent seats. They have a nice selection of beer and food. Their bathrooms were clean but mostly empty. I went at the beginning of the game and they were already out of soap and paper towels in some of the dispensers. We left 5 mins before the game which I don't regret because getting out of the parking lot would be a pain. I would definitely come back. read more

Now that I'm completely moved into this beautiful city we call Charlotte (aka The Queen City, aka Buzz City) I needed to get my hockey fix in (I'm from da burgh). So after doing some quick research (I googled Charlotte Hockey) I came upon the Charlotte Checkers. This led to myself diving down a Charlotte Checkers rabbit hole and digging into their history (more recent than past) and they have been Calder Cup favorites for the past several years. After deciding I had to check them out, I bought my tickets through the ticket office (saves you several doll-hairs in ticket fees) and made my way over for some Calder Cup playoff puck. YOU CANNOT BEAT the $2 specials they have during the cup playoffs. Now the cherry on top (other than the series clinching win against the Providence Bruins) was the fact that I was able to find a Labatt Blue stand (behind 121 for dem northerners looking for some dope canadian brew) and partook in several brewskis and enjoyed every single drop of this brew-haha from our northern neighbors. Overall 1) Great playoff puck atmosphere (for AHL aka Always Hungry League) 2) They have Labatt Blue 3) Free puck playoff hats 4) They win a lot. STRONGLY SUGGEST A VISIT TO THE BISCUIT (aka Bojangles' Coliseum). read more

I took the first parking exit off of Independence Blvd. ( There's 4) and walked over to the Coliseum through the pedestrian underground bridge to safely cross the road. Parking was $8. Sat in section 106 great views! Lots of interactive Game promotions to keep the crowd engaged. The price selection is on par with other professional venues. However if you pay with cash there may be some beer specials. A lot of the concessions are CASH Only so keep that in mind you may have to walk a bit further. The Red Line restaurant has a bar that serves cocktails and liquor. I definitely recommend anyone going. Pro Tip: Buy the $5 Large popcorn the small is only $4; what's $1 more? read more

I have been to Bojangles Coliseum more times than I can remember beginning in the late 80s (of course, it wasn't called Bojangles then). It's an old coliseum with too few bathrooms and expensive beer. But, it hosts Checkers hockey - which is a delight - and occasional concerts where there's really not a bad seat in the house. There is not a bad seat in the house at Bojangles. Perfect atmosphere for a hockey game to see the Checkers. Especially if you sit in Section 124 near row AA. We love coming here for hockey and the best restaurant in the coliseum was the Philly cheese steak place behind section 125. We are super disappointed that it has closed and we want it back as soon as possible. Best food at the coliseum by a wide margin. read more

I recently (last night) attended a concert at Bojangles' Coliseum, Tool to be exact (with 3Teeth and Primus). The show was great. Tool put on a rockin' show, so no complaints there. This review isn't about the show, but rather the venue. So, now that that's out of the way: Let's start with the good: The acoustics were surprisingly good. Any bigger and the reverberation would have been too much for a metal concert. The crowd control was also good. Ingress and egress went fairly smoothly, in spite of the fact that there seemed to be only one entrance/exit. And that'll do it for the good. On to the bad: The show was general admission. Really? Whose bright idea was it to have a gen admin show when most of the venue is comprised of seats? Getting in and finding a seat was a huge headache. The ushers kept "ushering" us to move along the walkway in a hasty manner, and didn't seem to care that it takes awhile to find open seats for a gen admin show. SMOKING. While I'm tempted to wax poetic about the egregious behavior of smoking, especially inside a packed concert venue, I'll refrain, as this is a review of the coliseum, not the behavior of the attendees. So, to that end, the security was sorely lacking in the enforcement of the VERY CLEAR NO SMOKING POLICY INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE VENUE. It really was disgusting...and I say that as a previous smoker. Yes, I realize this is a concert, but I've been to other venues of similar size where security worked very hard to squash such odious and selfish behavior. Finally, I got a bad taste in my mouth when I left my seat near the end of the show to get a drink of water. When I walked up to one of the concession stands (one of the free standing ones), I noticed they were shutting down for the evening. This is fine and understandable. I proceeded to ask for a cup with water...a simple request, considering the stack of plastic cups sitting on the counter. Rather than obliging, the response I received from the attendant was something to the effect of "no, we can't take payment from anyone now since we're shutting down." So, I responded with, "What? A cup of water isn't free?" at which point she looked at me like I had two heads. All I wanted was a cup with water. Even just an empty cup would have been fine, as I could have filled it up at the water fountain. Will I attend another show? I honestly don't know. I could deal with the gen admin thing, but the lack of NO SMOKING enforcement and sub-par customer service would definitely make me think twice next time. read more

I can only hope that one day they will upgrade the sound system in this place especially if they're going to continue having concerts here. I have attended several events here and the sound for concerts is almost unbearable.......loud and muffled and it's been that way for years. The other events have pretty decent sound, no complaints, but it's something about those concerts that will prevent me from spending another $1 on that venue. read more
