Muggsy Bogues and Larry Johnson.
Daniel B.

I was born and raised in High Point, North Carolina, so by default, my favorite NBA team growing up was the Charlotte Hornets. After following Tim Duncan's career closely at Wake Forest (my parents are Wake alum and we were season ticket holders), I became a diehard San Antonio Spurs fan. Living in Atlanta for the last 20 years, I've become an Atlanta Hawks fan as well. I guess you could say Charlotte is now my third-favorite NBA team, but they'll always have a special place in my heart. The Hornets teams I have the fondest memories of were the teams with Muggsy Bogues, Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Dell Curry, and Hersey Hawkins (early to mid 90s). Muggsy Bogues was one of my favorite players at the time. Not only was he a Demon Deacon, but to this day, he remains one of the shortest players to ever play in the NBA at 5 feet 3 inches tall. He played 14 seasons in the NBA (10 with Charlotte) and even averaged a double-double one year: 10.8 points and 10.7 assists in 77 games in 1993-94. Incredible. NBA Jam: Tournament Edition (arcade/console video game), released in 1994, featured the five aforementioned Hornets players. Curry and Hawkins could be unlocked after beating all 27 teams in Tournament Mode. On paper, the Hornets had a good, balanced team with All-Stars LJ and Zo at the power forward and center positions, Muggsy Bogues dishing out the assists, and Curry and Hawkins nailing shots from downtown. Dell Curry, who played at Virginia Tech, is the father of Steph Curry and Seth Curry. This team was also my squad of choice in NBA Live 95 for the Super NES. In reality, the furthest this team advanced in the playoffs was the Eastern Conference Semifinals where they lost to the New York Knicks, 4-1, in 1993. Three-time All-Star Glen Rice was the star of the team from 1995 to 1998. I ended up meeting Glen Rice on several occasions in the early 2010s when his son, Glen Rice Jr, played for Georgia Tech (I've been a Tech men's basketball season ticket holder since 2005). The Hornets moved to New Orleans beginning with the 2002-03 season. Charlotte's new NBA franchise, the Bobcats, started play in 2004-05. After the New Orleans Hornets became the New Orleans Pelicans starting with the 2013-14 season, the Bobcats changed their name to Hornets effective with the 2014-15 season. Michael Jordan, who grew up in North Carolina, became part-owner and head of basketball operations for the Bobcats/Hornets in 2006. He's been the principal owner of the franchise since 2010. Since the Bobcats' formation in 2004-05, the Bobcats/Hornets have only made the playoffs three times and lost in the first round each time. Kemba Walker was the face of this franchise throughout the 2010s. Walker joined the Boston Celtics in the 2019 offseason via sign-and-trade. One of the Hornets' stars in 2019-20 was Devonte' Graham. He had a breakout year and did wonders for my fantasy team (a great, under-the-radar, free agent pickup for me). Graham was born and raised in Raleigh and played all four years of college ball at Kansas before being drafted by the Hawks in 2018 and getting traded to the Hornets for two second round picks. On Yelp, four stars means "Yay! I'm a fan." So I'm giving the Charlotte Hornets four stars. I'm a fan.

It's always nice when the home team wins! The organization has done a lot to enhance the fan experience. I thought they did a really good job to make the fans feel like they really support the team, especially where this team used to be in the past, even though they may not be the winningest team, it doesn't feel that way sitting in the stand. Great job!

I'm giving the Bobcats 3 stars because I don't love them, but yet I don't hate them. Unless they are playing the Magic or the Heat... I still don't hate them then... I just don't want them to win. I was able to see the Bobcats play the Magic in the playoffs back in 2010 in Orlando and it was such a fun and wonderful experience. Luckily, my team (the Magic) won and we beat them by a pretty decent margin. The final score that night was 92 - 77. I did enjoy seeing the Bobcats play. I love the NBA and I'm on a mission to be able to see every team play in person. Hopefully I'll be able to accomplish that in my lifetime. What was really super cool about this game is that Michael Jordan himself was there! I was SO stoked about that! I kept pointing and telling my husband throughout the entire game, "There's Michael Jordan! There's Michael Jordan!" I mean, I didn't get to meet him or anything as awesome as that, but we had great seats and I was able to see him the entire time. I'm not sure if I did more basketball watching or Michael Jordan watching. LOL Even though I'm not a fan, the Bobcats are a good team and I'm still very happy I was able to see them play in person! =)

Charlotte finally has the Hornets back for the 2014/15 season! The name Hornets is important to Charlotte, like "Yankees" to New York, "Brewers" to Milwaukee and "Dodgers" to Los Angeles. Okay, not so much on that last one. You see, back during the days of the Revolutionary War, the English commander sent a letter back to London, referring to Charlotte as "a veritable hornet's nest of rebellion." And so the name belongs here. Anyway. The Time Warner Cable Arena is a nice, modern arena with the appropriate number of comfortable seats that have a good view of the court, plenty of sky boxes and lots of concessions that charge the usual arm and a leg. The name seems to have helped some. We're not in last place any more. Yay? As for the "Lady Cats" I referenced in my earlier review... they are now the "Honey Bees" and they're just as cheery now as they were then.

For a fabulous, professional basketball experience, Charlotte Bobcats have you covered. Although I've only been to one game, I've had the pleasure of watching some super athletic players is a stunning arena that is TWC. If you haven't been to the arena, or a Bobcats game yet, you're missing out. There really isn't a bad seat in the house, parking is fairly stress free and direct, and the Bobcats staff runs fun promos of all sorts. Discounted ticket nights, social media challenges, special offers at the store, upgraded seats, etc. Especially within the past year or so they have really listened to the Charlotte fans and implemented some really great, interactive specials. The arena is super clean, easy to get around and HUGE, natch. Food and beverage options are a plenty and seats are pretty comfortable. If you're lucky enough to score some box seats you may enjoy some tasty buffet and super sweet service. Who doesn't like the VIP treatment? For groups and interests of all ages and sizes, catching a Bobcats game is a great option in Charlotte. I'm looking forward to heading out to more games this year. Go Bobcats!

I always enjoy my time when I visit the stadium. The half time show has been very entertaining. I wish there was a more variety of places to eat in the stadium. Personnel have been very friendly and we have never had any issues with our seating either we sat floor side or nose bleeds my experience has been well.

Lets go Bobcats!!!! I'm a true fan of the game, so I love now being able to say I have a sports team so close by!!! The Bobcats are very fun to watch and make for a very exciting night out. The few players I've met have been very nice and engaging. They really make sure to put their fans first, taking pictures with kids, signing tickets and autographs! I loved the half time show, and all the great selections for food and drinks! If you want it, they have it here from hot dogs and pizza to donuts and coffee! Great Arena, Great Team, Great Time!

Awesome night with the Hornets!

On a visit to the Charlotte/Kannapolis/Concord area to visit all of the NASCAR Team…read moreGarages/Headquarters, Hendricks Motorsports was our third stop. We visited the Hendrick campus this past summer, on a Thursday afternoon in July. It was not super busy, but there were a few other groups in the museum and store while we were there. The campus is located in Concord, and there is plenty of private parking just steps away from the front doors of the museum and gift shop. It was easy to figure out we were in the right spot with the ample signage around the property. The museum and gift shop are essentially one and the same - you walk into the lobby of the building, and the museum is mostly around the perimeter of the space, while the gift shop area is in the center. The team garages are located in another building on the property. We had positive interactions with all of the staff, and especially with the woman who works reception at in the building with the team garages (her name escapes me, but she was so wonderful!). The review is further broken down into categories below: Displays/Museums/Historical Items - 4/5 Rating The downright history, and all of the cars to see at Hendrick is unmatched. There is a lot to take in regarding the history and variety. Also, the amount of cars to see is impressive. All or the cars are behind ropes, so you cannot touch them or get very close. As stated above, the museum is located in one large space, so the cars are just what can fit along the perimeter of the room. There are also large displays discussing the history of Hendrick, along with various trophies. Team Store - 5/5 Rating Hendrick has the largest selection of merchandise for any of the racing teams, by far. There is plenty of selection for each current cup series driver, along with a diverse selection for past drivers. There was a clearance rack of items, and they were also running a promotion of a free item if you spent so much in the shop. You got to pick the item from a select area in the shop. The die cast selection left something to be desired. However, there are plenty of knickknack-type items to choose from. Garage Access - 2/5 Rating In terms of garage access, there is not a ton for this team. As stated above, the garage is located in a separate building on the property from the museum and gift shop. But, this access of this area is limited. The viewing area is only one smaller window. They were working on an Xfinity car at the time we were there, and you were asked not to take pictures of the garage area. Overall Access - 5/5 Rating The access here is rather vast when comparing to other teams. You are able to drive around the entire campus, and see a lot while doing so due to the size. Additionally, there is access for fans to the pit practice area. This is a unique aspect of Hendrick that we did not see from other teams. There is also access to the team lobby, specifically the 5 and the 9 who share a building. This is where the garage viewing area is located. It also had multiple trophies on display, historical items and past cars. Extras - 5/5 Rating Being able to see live pit practice for the team is rather insane. This is not happening at all hours the shop and museum are open, but when the crew is conducting practice, fans are invited to view the sessions. We witnessed this on a previous trip to Hendrick, and watched the practice for an extended period. The pit practices are held in the designated area behind the museum and gift shop. There were even bleachers for fans to sit on for the practice. The Hero Cards are also located in the lobby/entrance of the museum, and the selection was good! In the 5 and 9 team buildings is where the public access to the garages are located. There are a few more race cars to see in there, but the highlight of this part of Hendrick is the receptionist for the building. She was so friendly, and let us hold the sword trophy from Jimmie Johnson's last Bristol win. It is right on the desk, so you will not miss it. This was a major highlight for my fiancé! If you can only make one racing team stop while in the area, Hendrick is the place to stop. There is a lot to look at in the museum, as well as one of the most diverse gift shops of all the teams. It is nice to be able to get merchandise from current drivers, as well as retired Hendrick legends. The extras here are top-notch. If you are able to visit during the pit practice, that would make the whole trip worth it. This absolutely is a must-stop for any racing fan while in the area.

There are plenty of food and drink options, far beyond typical ballpark fare, making it easy to find something for everyone. The surrounding area adds to the experience too, with a lively, welcoming vibe before and after the game. What really sets Truist Field apart is how comfortable and fan-friendly it feels. Carolina Panthers Season Tickets purchase experience!!!…read more I just secured my first season ticket to Bank of America Stadium for the remainder of the 2025 season. The entire purchase process was handled by Ellie S. and she's been more than a pleasure to work with. I finally attended my first game after being a fan since they were introduced as an upcoming expansion team in 1993. The season home opener 30-0 victory over our division rivals the Atlanta Falcons was awesome. Couldn't have asked for a better day to meet face to face and talk about options. I can't imagine having a better experience during the buying and selection process. Definitely worth the wait. The payment options are very flexible and can meet even the tightest budgets. Subjectively, the Panthers are my No. 2 team behind the Atlanta Falcons. I was born and raised in North Carolina and still remember my classmates and I talking on the school bus about Kerry Collins vs. Brett Favre in the 1997 NFC Championship Game. The Green Bay Packers beat the Panthers, 30-13, in Green Bay and would go on to win Super Bowl XXXI (1996 season). It was only the Panthers' second season and it seemed like everyone in the state was excited. Dom Capers, the coach of the Panthers that year, was named NFL Coach of the Year. As I wrote in my review for the Jacksonville Jaguars (https://www.yelp.com/biz/jacksonville-jaguars-jacksonville), the Panthers are still among the four newest teams in the league along with the Jaguars (1995), Baltimore Ravens (1996), and Houston Texans (2002). Among these four teams, only the Ravens have won the Super Bowl (they did it twice). Compared to their fellow 1995 expansion team, the Jaguars, and the newer Texans, the Panthers are the only team of the three to have made it to the Super Bowl (twice). After the 1997 NFC Championship Game (1996 season), the next time the Panthers made it to the playoffs, they made it to the Super Bowl: Super Bowl XXXVIII. That was in 2004 (2003 season). The Panthers made it as an 11-5 Wild Card team and narrowly lost, 32-29, to the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick New England Patriots dynasty. At that time, the Panthers were coached by John Fox. Fox later led the Denver Broncos to Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 (a loss to the Seattle Seahawks). The 2003-04 Panthers had Jake Delhomme as the QB, Muhsin Muhammad and Steve Smith as the wideouts, and Stephen Davis as the RB1. Panthers defensive end and North Carolina grad Julius Peppers, an eventual nine-time Pro Bowler, was only in his second NFL season. Fox led the Panthers to the NFC Championship Game again just two years later. The Cam Newton-Ron Rivera era began in 2011. After going 2-14 in Fox's final season (2010), the Panthers hired Rivera and drafted college football national champion Newton with the first overall pick in the 2011 draft. Newton was NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. The following year, the Panthers drafted Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 draft. Kuechly was NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He followed that up by winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. Rivera, Newton, and Kuechly led the Panthers to three straight NFC South championships from 2013 to 2015. Those division titles culminated in the franchise's second Super Bowl appearance in 2016's Super Bowl 50 (2015 season). Rivera won the NFL Coach of the Year Award two of those three years (2013, 2015) and Newton won the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year Awards in 2015. Needless to say, these were good years in Charlotte. As NFL fans may recall, Super Bowl 50 is where Peyton Manning rode off into the sunset a two-time Super Bowl champion. The Denver Broncos defeated the Panthers, 24-10. Since Super Bowl 50, Carolina has only had one winning season. One of my friends likes to make fun of teams that hire former Temple coaches because they don't have much success. The Panthers are entering year three with Matt Rhule at the helm. Rhule was the head coach at Temple from 2013 to 2016. In his first two seasons at Carolina, Rhule has gone 10-23 (.303). My favorite college football team, Georgia Tech, hired Rhule's successor, Geoff Collins. In his first three seasons at Tech, Collins has gone 9-25 (.265), but I digress.
