Really cute place, they do have a large sitting area outside but they also have a small garden area in the back of the main office. They do have tastings available. We chose the wine flight and you get to pick 5 wines including slushies. Since we went during the week on a Wednesday it was not crowded and didn't need reservations. Also, they have $5 ski shoes on Wednesdays and I really recommend getting them. So good! They also have cheese and crackers for sale. What I really like about the place is that is kid friendly and they have non-alcoholic wines. read more

We came here after visiting 4 other NC wineries this weekend. This was my least favorite. They offer a wine tasting or wine flight. We opted for a wine flight to pick what we wanted to try, plus their bar area where they do the tasting is overly cramped, especially when there are others doing a tasting or waiting to be served. Absolutely no one was in the gift shop - which is a large open space. They really did not plan the inside space well at all - especially since all of the seating is primarily outdoors - some covered, some not. As far as the wine, we got two flights which includes 5 selections each: 1. Niagara, Moscato and three muscadine wines (white gold, red red, and rockin red). I love muscadine wines and did not care for theirs at all. The niagara was just okay, and the moscato was pretty good. 2. Slushies - blueberry pom, peach bellini, cosmo, strawberry mango, and lemon drop. The favorites for us were cosmo and peach bellini. Unfortunately, these melted quickly at pour, so they were just a very cold drink. My other critique - they write what you have selected on the glass. Unfortunately those all melt off on the slushies and smear off easily. So sometimes you weren't even sure what you were tasting. I'd like them to offer a list instead for two reasons, exactly know what you are drinking and allow me to write notes. While I'm glad we checked out Rocky River Vineyards as it is a beautiful property outside, their wine was just unfortunately not for me. read more

This place is cute. A nice little day trip 30 min from our place in Charlotte. Flights of 5 for ($5) or the whole tasting menu for ($10). You can also pretty much sample anything else you want to try if you just ask. The slushes were my favorite. I tried the blueberry and the apple cider. So delicious. Even ended up buying a mixed to take home. They sell snacks and charcuterie but I didn't have any. Good drinks, nice views. I'm trying to go the all of the wineries in the area and Rocky River Vineyards was up next. It is kind of by itself without other wineries close by but it is still 100% worth the trip. The property is really nice. You can walk among the vines, see the barn, drink inside at the small tasting bar, or drink outside at one of the multiple seating areas outside. We planned our day around this winery closing at 6pm. Played 9 holes next door (came here because of winery) at 3pm and got to winery st 5pm to enjoy for an hour before closing at 6pm. I immediately fell in love with this vineyard upon driving in. Settled in the woods of tiny Midland, they are located in a cute little house with a screened in front porch. Behind there is a pavilion and rocking chairs along with the vineyard where you can roam around. The front yard also has a patio with heaters and seating. Inside they served wine slushie a, wine, beer and hot mulled cider. There were all kinds of local crafts for sale and wine too. Nice place located in a surrounding county of charlotte. There is a good amount of parking and a quite a large vineyard. Great place to go to for a day trip.I came to wine tasting only. Apparently they host events like weddings, etc there. They have a wide range of wines from dry, semi sweet to sweet, and slushes. The slushees were great for a hot summer day. I like that they offer a variety and some of the wines were quite tasty. They have a Groupon for their establishment if your looking for a deal. The only concerns were that the wine tasting section is tiny and there is a strong stomach turning stench in the front of the home near the entrance where you come in at for the gift shop. Two words: wine slushies. There are 3 alcoholic flavors and you can mix them! 3 different sizes offered too. I liked the blueberry pomegranate and the margarita flavor (forget the name). Yum! There's a small tasting room in the White House, with a screened-in porch. The outdoors has a patio with a view of the vineyards and barn. Nice visit to the the vineyards a sweet setup. You park in the back and they have a few tables as well as an entrance in both front and back. We chose to sit out front and enjoyed it. Cooler day but they have heaters on the patio and overlooks a little river/stream below. Also have a front porch thats screened in so you can feel right at home. Added bonus is you can see the golf course :) The staff was really.nice and friendly. Enjoyed the wines we tried and after a sampler decided to buy a bottle of the cab. The sleeper pick was the mulled wine. We got a small sample and tasted like Christmas! I have tried making this st home and think from now on will leave that for the pros haha! After a few years of not being able to get to the vineyard for a festival, I made it to the Spring Festival this year. As usual, I had a GREAT time and so did my friends (who were first-timers and vowed to become regular Festival attendees). So after searching for a vineyard that my wife and I could go to for lunch while our kids were in school I found this one. I was a little skeptical from other reviews I saw but I was proven wrong. We grabbed a pizza from a little Pizzeria down the street and they were very welcoming of bringing your own food/snacks. We had the place to ourselves aside from 2 other women with their kids playing on the lawn. The women behind the counter were very very helpful and guiding us to which flights to select. The Peach slushies!!! That's all I want to talk about...the peach slushies!!! We grabbed a bottle to take home but the serenity of the lawn/gardens when it's not crowded is unmatched. We were there around 1130am on a Weds and it was perfect. We drove from Matthews and will definitely go back. I highly recommend!!! read more

I loved this little winery. I just happened to visit on a day at the time of a wedding. I went in and sat at the wine tasting bar area and waited for a friend to arrive. While I waited I decided to try one of the frozen drinks. I think it was the blueberry pomegranate. It was so yummy! It was a warm day so it was just a nice way to cool down and the small drink actually gave me a slight buzz. Lol, I was not mad at that! Once my friend arrived we did the wine tasting. Everyone who worked there was very pleasant. Some wines I loved, the sweet ones...not so much. Overall, I liked the cozy atmosphere. After the wine tasting we had another frozen drink and went outside to enjoy the weather. The wedding had just begun and I so badly wanted to have my own version of "Wedding Crashers" but I didn't. Rocky River Vineyards is a solid 5 stars! What a beautiful, quiet, relaxing, welcoming place to taste and drink wine. For a flight of 5 wines, I paid $5. What a great deal! My favorite was their Scarlet. Yum! I also got their delicious wine sangria slushie for $8. It came in this cute plastic green cup that you can keep and reuse for a $1 discount. I also got their cheese straws for $7. They were so worth it as they were so good and unique. They were like cheese shortbread cookies, but not sweet. Love this winery. We have just moved back to NC. Love finding these hidden gems. Nice selection of wines and slushes. They have nice tastings. Hubby and I prefer dry wines. Very nice Pinot Grigio and Cabernet. They offer some snacks or you can bring your own. Seating outside and under covering. Also COVID safe. Great staff. We had a very nice afternoon even tho our car battery died . We felt bad this happened at closing time. Again staffing was great and helpful. Hope to be back soon read more

Definitely my favorite winery in the area as I am a huge fan of sweet wine and they offer some great options. They have the best wine slushies from blueberry pomegranate to lemon drop to apple cider. They have a great atmosphere with a big pavilion where we love to bring a picnic and hang out, plenty of grassy area for kids to play in. On weekends they offer live music and sometimes even a food truck. BUT, I am SO disappointed that their staff have not been wearing masks at all during this pandemic. Regardless of personal beliefs, that is bad business and can make guests very uncomfortable. It's the only place I've been where employees aren't doing their part to protect others. If everyone else can wear a mask at work all day long then so can they. read more

Not too big this place but small and kinda cozy type a feelings. They have a big vineyards of grapes and other fruits which I don't remember aha. Looks like they don't have enough parking tho for the customers, but we managed it. Customer service was nice and friendly like they did recommend us to try varieties of wines and explained it what it made of (plus point). During a trip up to the Charlotte area, stopped into Rocky River Vineyards. Enjoyed a Tasting, a Wine Slushy, and a bottle of Chambourcin in the gorgeous environment. Quality Since grapes are unable to grow in the South Florida climate, it requires trips to other states to visit wineries that don't just use an assortment of tropical fruits. And while North Carolina may not be the capital of wine production, they do have their own varieties of grapes and a few wineries where you can check them out. On a recent visit to the Charlotte area, we made a detour out to Rocky River Vineyards. We experienced a Tasting of ten wines and slushies including two made with Carlos Muscadine and Noble Muscadine grapes grown on site. And while I found the vast majority of wines a little sweet for my taste, it was still a fun experience. We also selected a bottle of our favorite their Chambourcin and enjoyed it on an outdoor patio. The full bodied red wine was solid, though a lighter wine may have been more appropriate for the warm day. We also decided to get a small glass of the Blackberry Pomegranate Wine Slushy, which was the popular choice among other guests of the winery. The slushy was the highlight of the visit for me. Quantity The Tasting was very fair and provided a good sampling of ten different wines. Depending on your mood they also have a Wine Slushy that will meet your expectations no matter what size you want, just beware of a brain freeze. Value Knowing that we were going to visit I did a little research and purchased a Groupon ahead of time, which came with two tastings, two glasses to bring home, and a bottle for just $17. At nearly half the normal price it is a great deal. However, the normal prices are not bad either in case you want to splurge on some extras. Ambiance Rocky River Vineyards is located east of Charlotte in an area called Midland. It is off the beaten path and caused great confusion for our Uber drivers. To enter you follow a stone path that takes you up a hill and through some trees. At the top you are met with a gorgeous site, rows and rows of grapes decorating rolling hills. A small house is located on the property and contains the store and bar where you conduct the tasting. It is air conditioned, providing some relief on a warm day. They have a little patio outside the house and then a large covered deck with open walls overlooking the grapes. We selected a table in this area to enjoy our wine before walking down to the grapes. This area is clearly set up for large events like weddings, with a bar, tables, and lots of seating. My only issue was the large number of bugs and flies on the humid day. I would advise bringing some bug spray if you plan to hang out for a longer period of time. Crowd There was a good crowd of people visiting the winery. Some mentioned that they were doing a tour of wineries in the area, others admitted they were in the mood for wine slushies, and a few appeared to be checking out the venue for a possible event. The one common bond however was everyone had a Groupon. It is a beautiful location and though I was not crazy about the wine, it is a great escape for a romantic afternoon. Service There were two ladies working at the bar during our visit. They provided a very informative tasting and were extremely knowledgable about the wine grown in the area. North Carolina is not usually an area I think of when talking about wines, so the detailed descriptions were very helpful. Parking During our visit we relied on car service companies, and that was a challenge at Rocky River Vineyards. There were not a lot of cars in the area, so the prices really mounted for this ride. If you are driving, things are much simpler as they have a private parking lot. Extra Rocky River Vineyards may not have wowed with its wines, but I did not really expect it to. It did however provide a wonderful tasting experience with some lovely staff in a beautiful setting. Absolutely worthy of a visit, just keep your wine snob attitudes behind. read more

We love RRV so much that we got married here (pics below.) they were affordable (around 4000 total with all our add-ons), customizable (let us arrive early for hair and makeup and allowed us to have a food truck!), and so so great to work with overall. This was my first time at a vineyard and I have been dying to go to one. After researching which vineyards were the best in the area Rocky River kept coming up and after seeing there was a Groupon for the wine tasting the boo and I went. Its not too far outside of Charlotte, pretty much Mint Hill, right off of 485. Its really close to Reeds Gold Mine. Its right off of a main road but we almost missed it, there is not really a noticeable sign for the Vineyard driveway. Once we drove up the drive way we saw the vineyard and gazebo area that I have seen on many pictures. It is obviously not wine season so the vineyard was not the lush green I was hoping for but that's my fault for not doing more research. We walked in the house which was small and quaint and one of the employees greeted us and explained to us how the wine tasting worked. We were seated in a small room off of the entrance that seats a party of 4. There was 1 other party in the room that was wrapping up so it ended up just being us in the wining tasting room. There was about 10 wines for us to taste, 2 slushies and 1 hot mule. We were also provided small crackers and 2 types of chocolates that were to go with certain wines as we got to them. Our favorites wine was the moscato and hands down the slushies! OMG I could drink those slushies every day. I couldn't decide if the Peach Bellini or the Blueberry Pomegranate was my favorite slushie but both were really good! The hot mule was also good but seemed like a good drink for the holidays when it is cold. The Groupon deal was great, we were both able to do the wine tasting, pick 1 bottle of wine to take home that we tried that day and we received 2 Rocky River Wine glasses that came in a nice build a bear like box to carry home. The winery has the slushie mix, wine glasses and other different things to purchase. We had a great experience and my boyfriend is still talking about the moscato from the tasting. We will definitely be back when the vineyard is in bloom and it is warmer outside. read more

Very nice experience overall... But the dogs that apparently live here were constantly barking which sort of ruined the serene experience one would expect at a Vinyard. The screened in porches the best area to sit outside and away from any bugs flying around. Wines here are good... Kind of hitvor miss depending on what you like. Vacationing with my Fiancé at his parents and my Mom came to visit for the holidays. She wanted to go to a vineyard and Rocky River is right around the corner from my fiancé parents house. The tasting room was small but quaint. Ashley was the girl who did our wine tasting and was very sweet and knowledgable about the vineyards wine. All the wine was very good. Me being a red wine girl I really liked the Christmas Merlot a lot! My mom got the Niagara which was also very good! There were also a few wines my fiancé also seemed to enjoy a little (he is primarily a craft beer drinker). The grounds were beautiful even though it was wet and rainy out.
