I do not trust Nations Choice Mortgage as the mortgage lender. I first went to Google and Bankrate to contact different lender regarding closing fee and was very close to pay $500 and sign the application with NationsChoice for 30 years fixed Mortgage. However, the rate was still dropping so I decided to waited a few days before proceed with the application. I got a phone call from NationsChoice few days later asking why I haven't signed the document paid the $500. I replied that I need few more days to decide, but the customer representative just hung up the phone with huge force. All I heard was the huge sound like someone throw the phone down, and then the phone just disconnected. I was amazed how unprofessional the company was. I later was thankful for the NationsChoice rep being such a jerk because I could have fallen into the 1% application fee trouble with them. To be fair, I was lucky enough to not to sign any application or documents with them so I do not have the personal contact after the customer rep hang up the phone on me. But if you are planning to do business with Nations Choice Mortgage, be sure to read the RipOffReport and other reviews on the websites. Also make sure to read through the application word by word. Arthur took my application over the phone, dealt with my nervousness because I had been burned by a brick-and-mortar bank (AKA Fremont Bank) and provided good references. SLIMIEST COMPANY I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH!!!! DO NOT DO IT!!!! Donn Daney is very rude and condescending and has no clue what the word "customer service" even means! I have been in the mortgage origination business for almost 20 years so I knew what to expect when I applied for a mortgage. My loan was an "A" Paper approvable, slam dunk. I had no problem paying for an appraisal because I knew there was no problem with approving this loan. My appraisal came in even higher than we'd expected. Unbeknownst to him there were new regulations put in place this year by Fannie and Freddie, any account that had any "dispute" marked on it, even if it (in my case) had $0.00 owing and was over 4 years old, needed to be cleared. Donn Daney, the LO told me they could not approve my loan but he could not tell me why... as he did not know why it was not being approved nor did he research to find out why. He agreed with me that there was nothing about this loan that should be denied... my loan passed all regulations for both Fannie and Freddie so I pressed him on this issue asking him to be more specific or to find out the reason so that we could deal with it. He just became more rude and condescending to cover up his cluelessness. After going to another lender, I found out how EASY the problem was to fix. It turned out to be a "Consumer Dispute" which meant I, myself was the only one who could remove it. (I had forgotten 5 years ago, that I had put it in the credit report myself because we had not solidified a status yet.) Clearly this was a quick fix and Donn Daney was just incompetent and could not instruct me what needed to be done. After finding another lender that easily got my loan approved with the needed documentation (with even better loan terms than Nations Choice had) Nations Choice mortgage would not transfer the appraisal that I paid $400 for. They turned denied my loan because of their incompetence, then they would not let me use the appraisal that I paid for. I still could use the appraisal if transferred within the week, but that probably will not happen, so I would like my $400.00 back that clearly was wasted with incompetent people. I also called the manager Brian Usry and explained the issue to him...he didn't even have the courtesy to call me back until 5 hours later but I got nowhere with him either. The people you have working for you are very rude and do not care about customer service. They give this industry and your company a bad name. read more

Stay away. It took them 28 days to get all my documents ready for the underwriters. By the time the were sending these out to them, my lock period was about to expire. The interesting thing is that I asked the first person I talked to, Victor Salas-Fisher, for a 45 day lock period or more, and he said 30 days would be enough. I needed to subordinate a HLOC and insisted on that, but he assured me they could do it in 30 days. You will exchange emails with at least 4-5 people and some times they ask for the same. Hard to get them to call you. I asked several times for a phone call. I also asked repeatedly about my loan process status and if the subordination had been initiated. No response. My lock period was due to expire on a 16th. They submitted papers to underwriters on the 13th, as well as my subordination request. Worst that all that. They asked me for proof of other property paid in full on the 22nd. I had to call Lori Slattery back to try to understand what she needed. After that, I asked her if my rater was still valid, given that she was asking for that 6 days after my period expired. It was then when she passed me to Steven Schude just to confirm that my rate was no longer available. He then offered me an ARM loan that was not close to the rate I had been offered for a 15-yr fixed loan. How in hell they manage to spend over 30 days just processing the loan documents is beyond my understanding. 2 weeks to get the appraisal done? At this point I am asking for a refund on my loan application ($495), but from what I've heard from others I don't keep my hopes high. Bottom line, I lost similar rates with other lenders because I trusted them. Don't you do the same. read more

My wife and I went through purchasing our home (local mortgage broker) and one other refi (with Wells Fargo) before this last one, and Nation's Choice was by far the best mortgage group to work with. I am hoping this is a forum that people will seriously read before making the same mistake I (and evidently several others) have made. NationsChoice advertises low rates and no fees. Before long, however, "we want to help you close this deal before escrow closes so let's get an appraisal done." That sounds right. "Now we just need $500 for the appraisal...It's not a fee, it just covers the appraisal." Hmmm...well, I do want this property and I need to close the deal so...here's my credit card number... Days turn into weeks and you can't wait any longer..."Hey, how's my loan going?" "Things are looking good. Our underwriter just has a few questions but if you can fax us over some additional documentation I think we can complete your loan." Sounds great, huh? Not so fast. You fax everything they need, some things twice since 'somehow' they misplaced a document or two. Then you wait some more. Now you're getting a little nervous because escrow is creeping up on you. You don't dare pursue another lender because NationsChoice is already into for the $500. Well, they finally break the news (with a real positive spin) that it "appears" that they can "almost" approve you but because of some technicality the rate will be higher than advertised and, well, they're going to need to charge your credit card another $1, 000 because your particular loan is a "little out of the ordinary." They found out through the appraisal that the house has nine windows instead of the standard eight windows, and there are three outlets in the master bedroom, not the four required by the 'American Institute of Master Bedroom Outlets.' But, not to worry, "we're working really hard for you and you're going to be so happy with your new home." As you are only days from escrow closing you call/email daily. "Oh, I'm sorry, so-and-so is out of the office today" or "She just left, can I take a message?" Of course, you're getting calls from your agent (who may have warned you about unscrupulous lenders like this, but 'you knew better') and the escrow office but you've got nothing solid to share with them regarding the status of your loan. You finally come to the realization that you've been "had." There is no loan, the 'underwriter' is a figment of someone's imagination, and someone in Gilbert, AZ is trying to determine on a Friday afternoon which bar they're going to celebrate with your "appraisal fee." Oh yeah, at some point during the day you receive a phone call from NationsChoice. They've been notified by escrow that escrow is over and there's no deal. That wonderful sales person from NationsChoice that wouldn't return your calls for days now begins to call you wanting to know why you're canceling your loan. You stand in disbelief thinking that it's all a nightmare and that you will wake up soon. But no. It's real. You've done everything you were supposed to in an all out effort to get your loan. They've lead you along with no intention of ever giving you one and now they want to know why you're canceling. It's insane. Is there a silver lining to this very dark cloud? Yes. Don't worry about them bothering you with another phone call. They have your money, they don't need you anymore. The silver lining would be prettier if someone out there heeds this warning. Please get your loan from a reputable lender. Whatever you do please DO NOT do business with this lender. read more

Horrible customer service and extremely poor feedback to the customer. Completed application on 3/30/2016 was given "we try our best to complete the refinance in 30 days". Email received 7/5/2016 saying it closed finally. As of 7/11/2016 still have no funds from our cash out because the title company says the pay off on the loan was to old to work with and they had to request a new one. Still waiting! Our credit scores were 806 and 807 with less than 4% credit card utilization. Debt to income was excellent! Faxed all documents requested the same day as application. Then 4/11/16, 4/16/16, 4/19/16 still need things answered ie., need a HUD-1 from a house we sold 10/21/14, questioning a middle initial of D cause somewhere they showed an O. Obviously a typo somewhere in my 60+ years of doing business, all simple but time consuming questions. All questions answered the same day as received. Signed E loan estimate closing disclosure on 6/6 - 6/7 - 5/9 - 4/1 - 3/30 - 5-20. Yep 6 times! The $495 paid for appraisal on 3/29 only to pay an additional of $125. to come back out to verify the hot water heater strap. The first time out we had a wrap around the heater and she couldn't see the strapping well enough. Really.... I will never use this company again and will go with a local mortgage company with customer service skills. I only used this company because they were on Costco's site. I will do my homework next time! 7/12/2016 After posting this review I was sent the 7th loan closing documents to sign!!!! So one of the two still has not closed. Worst customer service imaginable. I won't even go into the numbers, but after saying they could close the refinance in "about" 30 days, it's been over 3 months and still no close. Latest issue is the funding Institute for the cash out amount says the paperwork from Nations Choice is out of date because it wasn't submitted in a timely manner...again...this is the third time we have had to have paperwork RE submitted because it wasn't received in a timely manner. When we began this process both of us have FICA scores of over 800. We have less than a 5% credit card useage and our debt to income ratio is superb. Every request from them was completed and returned immediately, and yet the paperwork still gets held up because of being "out of date". This company should be sanctioned by the BBB as they are really a joke to work with. read more

This review is about my second experience with NCM and how it was significantly worse than the first. The first time was when we bought our house, and though the organization throughout the process was lacking, everything got done and we were [barely] able to move in when we were told we could. Fast forward a year later and I receive an unsolicited call from Lindsay Lipsky, of NCM, telling me that it would be a great time to refinance. If you've ever owned a home you're aware that you receive calls or mail nonstop from other companies telling you it's a great time to refi as well. However, I decided to proceed with NCM since we worked with them before and it was relatively painless. Before agreeing to start the process, we had multiple phone calls with Lindsay in order to outline the terms and conditions. We were told -- mind you, this is multiple people on my end listening to and participating in the call -- that the ONLY thing we would be paying for was the appraisal. I paid the $400+ during that phone call and I was told that I would be reimbursed for it when we closed (which Lindsay claimed that we misunderstood later on). This was reiterated multiple times, as we were not looking to refi if we would be coming out of pocket on anything. Lindsay confirmed this and the process started. A couple days later, Lindsay emailed us several documents and gave us about 45 minutes after seeing that we had opened them before she called us to see if we had questions. It seemed a little odd to literally give us less than an hour, on a Monday while at work, before trying to hurry us but that wasn't a big deal. As soon as these documents were signed and sent back, Lindsay all but disappeared. The majority of the process was handled by a woman, Lisa, whom we were told was fired halfway through our file. Unfortunately for us, she was literally the only person we could ever get a hold of with questions. Lindsay had requested all the typical documents from us: pay stubs, taxes, bank accounts, etc. From that point on, she forwarded everything and took a back seat. Over the course of the next few weeks, Lisa repeatedly emailed us asking for documents that we had already sent to Lindsay. I called Lisa asking what the issue was since it seemed like every few days we were going in circles. Lisa essentially told me that Lindsay was responsible for these things and that she doesn't have "great communication". Great, at least I knew where the problem was. ONE time ever throughout this entire process did Lindsay answer her office or cell phone when we called. Literally one time. Each and every single other time we called either line, we left a voicemail and sometimes received calls back at 9PM or 2-3 business days later. On one particular phone call, after expressing our frustration with this (no cursing or demeaning language was used) she told us that she was "personally offended" and that "99% of her clients are satisfied, so we were the 1%". Funny, a quick Google search shows plenty of complaints about her specifically. She told us that she has 40+ clients and that's way more than the average Sales Manager. Well, why did you bother calling us if you couldn't handle that big of a workload? She also had no problem throwing any of her colleagues under the bus and telling us that she would find out who didn't get something done and that person would be fired... Eventually, this got to the point of us contacting Ron Goetz, the General Manager. He started off by defending NCM and their large pipeline of millions of dollars AKA we're super busy with tons of other work. After explaining to Ron our issues with Lindsay and the complete lack of communication (as well as CC'ing him on emails from that point on) he stepped up. Ron seemed to understand now and he began facilitating the process. We had constant communication with him from then on, even texting, but still got nothing from Lindsay. She did make a point, prior to closing, to tell us how glad she was that this was almost over and that she "couldn't wait to get my commission". Super professional. If you've taken the time to read the longest review I've ever written, I'd like to also say that anyone can reach out to me to confirm any and all of this. I have every single email. This isn't an anger-fueled review due to having too much time on my hands. It's to help others stay away from one of the most frustrating people I've ever done business with. Again, I want to reiterate that Ron saved the deal, because I was ready to chalk it up to a giant waste of time and start over from scratch with someone else. Lindsay Lipsky, you may want to try to learn from this opposed to being offended and shutting down...it's not a good look and it's clear we're not the 1% who feels this way. read more

I would give more stars if I could. Joe Garza helped us all the way through the grueling process of getting approved for a loan. I can not speak highly enough for his professionalism and optimism all the way until the very end! We had a dead line to be out of our rental home and he helped us make it just in time. We got approved for our loan and moved in to our new house as quickly as we could. Our credit wasn't phenomenal so I'm sure it wasn't easy, but he made it happen for us as well as doing the best he could at eliminating stress. He is easily reachable and always returned missed calls, texts and emails in a timely fashion. At one point another agency tried to take over our loan applying and since we were clueless on the whole thing, we almost went for it. He explained what was going to happen if we made the switch and even though I'm sure he wasn't excited that we were considering switching, he still stayed calm, collected and informative. We are so happy we went with Nations Choice. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely want Joe Garza with us the whole way. read more

This is my second time with NationsChoice and both times went OK with only a couple minor hitches on the underwriting side. Danielle Mitchell, the Sr. loan processor, was amazing! I always had a quick response to any question I asked while my loan was going through the underwriting process. I honestly haven't found a better value out there. Just make sure you will qualify for the loan before paying the non-refundable $500 fee because you will have a hell of a time getting it back. Absolutely mislead by this comany. My broker Donn Daney was awful. He failed to call back several times and was not forthcoming about rates "hoping they would go down" WORST COMPANY ever. His boss was just as bad failing to acknowledge the unacceptable work ethic of Donn. His poor performance caused me to miss out on betterates to re-finance even though he led me to beleive I was locked in. I will going to the Better Business Bureau to report them. read more

Donn Daney at Nations Choice should have his license revoked. We went through several mortgage companies looking for one that would lock in our rate. He promised us he could lock in a rate since they were a "direct" lender. We had to pay $1700 origination fee, $495, pay a higher interest, and close our second mortgage all to do it. We did everything right and were waiting to close. He said we were locked in and then stopped returning our calls until we complained. Finally he calls and tell us the rates have gone up almost a point more and he's sorry but we weren't really locked in. We were forced to refinance with them at a cost of more than $19,000 over the course of the 15 years mortgage. read more

He is reliable and answers my questions and texts right away. I have read from other reviews here at Yelp that they wasted their $495 application fee. That is not true in my case. Once the loan was funded, Joe and his team refunded the application fee to the credit card that I used. I am saving over $100 a month because I already have a low rate to begin with. We have done two refinances with Joe Garza at Nationschoice. They have been the easiest refinance that we have ever done! If you had a bad experience with Nationschoice, then you did not work with Joe! He has always been responsive and very accessible! If I sent him a text, I always got an immediate answer. The total time for the refinance from start to finish has taken 20-30 days to complete. We live in California and they, of course, are in Arizona. The first time I used this company, I had some concerns about how smoothly things could go since everything had to be done on-line. What a JOKE! They claimed to have locked my rate but the agent could never send me a confirmation of the rate lock. She could never be reached unless she was calling for a new document every few days. Returning voicemails with emails is just unprofessional and a shows a complete lack of professionalism. The processor made me fee like I was bothering her anytime I tried to get an update (since I could never reach my agent) - why was I paying fees for this kind of customer service? IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET TO REFINANCE OR PURCHASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND A REAL MORTGAGE BANK. We have gone through this process (refi) a number of times in the past and never has it been handled this well. I found NationsChoice Mortgage quite randomly and just kind of vibed it out. After speaking with Joe Garza I decided to take a chance with them. He was knowledgeable and helpful and pretty much always available to answer my endless questions. Another reviewer described him as patient and I would have to agree with that assessment. Truthfully, everything was going so smoothly, I was for a time a little suspicious. Terrible service. Website claims 90% of loans close within 30 days, ours took 60+, even though we made it clear at onset we needed it to close by end of year (approx 40 days). Arrogant - thought we should be grateful due to good rate, but we paid for the rate by buying it down - paying point. After we signed app - we found out that compared to other rates without buydown it would take 9 years to recoup discount - so no bargain. Signed for some things then 40 days later they asked us to sign again cos they didn't execute and signature expired. Oh and note we have good credit - 800+ FICA score. I could go on and on but will stop by saying get your loan someplace else. read more

I live in California and was trying to purchase a vacation home in Lake Havasu Arizona. We began the loan process at the end of April with a friend who was having a very difficult time getting a loan approval. With our closing date approaching at the end of May we were in trouble, we were going to lose the house. I called Christine Wenger on May 21st for help. She was awesome. I have had a wonderful experience working with her. She made me feel as if I was her only client. And above all she closed the deal in 3 weeks. We have a new home and a new lender. And indeed, it was even lower than in company I refinanced 4 times already before in the past, and I was sure they were the best. Now I think Nation's Choice is the best.
